Balls instead of chairs - Hahaha

Posted By: Busy MT'ing on 2005-08-09
In Reply to:

Just thought I'd pass this along in case anyone is tired of sitting in the same old chair everyday while they work.  I've seen this "tip" before but never bothered to try it until recently.

I purchased one of those large inflatable exercise balls and use it instead of a chair.  It's a very refreshing change.  I did have to learn to balance a bit because in a chair you can move around, even when you're not aware of it, and the chair is stable but the ball isn't.  It also helps me keep better posture, is easier on the low back/sacrum, and I think it is helping my abdomen because you are working your abdominals and legs while sitting there.

Anyway, it was worth a try for me.  I may not use it all the time but it is a great change.

Too many balls dropping...
Why are there so many balls dropping these days? One in Times Square, Las Vegas, LA, Disney World..Goodness! Which ball are you watching drop?
Sulfer or moth balls.

A snake in the house will leave eventually if it does not have a food source. They only eat people in the movies. They are mainly looking for mice but sometimes they wander into places they shouldn't. Sulfer (you can buy it in the garden center at Walmart) sprinkled around the perimeter of the house works (outside). Snakes hate it and will avoid it. Moth balls work but not if you have kids...they think it looks like candy. Sulfer will last a long time even if it rains. You  can go to a farm supply place and buy "snake repellent" (and pay $20) but if you read the ingredients it is just sulfer. Country lore says a snake won't cross the sulfer line. Works for me.

I wish US leaders had the balls to make a
It's so eloquently spoken and TRUE. They chose US, we did not choose THEM.

My grandfather came to this country LEGALLY. He learned English BEFORE he came. He had a sponsor to vouch for him, and a job waiting when he arrived. He wanted so much to be 'American' that he changed his name. He became a citizen as soon as he could. If I wanted to move to another country, I would want to feel ACCEPTED, and one of the best ways to do that is to assimilate oneself into that country's culture, I would learn the language, and woulnd not go bashing that new country's beliefs.

The most I EVER got was maybe 250 lph, and that was including headers, etc., and a word Expander like PC Shorthand. Course I was always a sluggish typist, never the fastest by any means! Just couldn't do that....I depended on my experience and my word expander.
Chairs!
Need opinions on Steelcase Leap Chair. Please. Thank you.
Chairs

Hello,

I would not reccomend sitting on a ball for the whole day. I know there has been a lot of hype around using exercise balls as seating but it actually causes stress on your back rather then creating "good posture". Also, it is not natural for the back to be in constant "good posture". The besy posture is to constantly re-position to create movement and comfort in the spinal cord.

Yes the Aeron chair is expensive but a great chair. I work at Herman Miller so I'm lucky enough to sit in one all day. You can get a base Aeron for around $600CAD. Not everyone needs all of the add on features which brings up the price.

I'm not a big fan of the foam and fabric chairs because they tend to trap dust, dirty easily and can smell over time. I also don't like that foam and fabric chairs don't breathe.

If any of you are looking for an Aeron or any other herman miller product, feel free to e-mail me and I can quote it out for you. shannon_fitzpatrick@hermanmiller.com

Take care,

Shannon

Mesh chairs??
Was wondering about the new mesh chairs, has anyone tried one? Pillow doesn't help, have tried that. I've got some serious saddle sores from sitting all day.
Mesh chairs
Herman Miller Aeron Chair, wouldn't work without it, changed my working comfort completely, no sore butt and no back pain.
Comfortable Chairs?
Anyone have any ideas for comfortable chairs, affordable comfortable chairs? I've been looking for a good chair and can't seem to find one.
Suggestions for chairs?? sm

I'm trying to find a chair that is comfortable all day (and sometimes part of the night) long.  I know some of you here have had the same problem.  Suggestions, please???

Thanks!

Most comfortable chairs.

Okay.  So, I have gone through two chairs trying to find a truly comfortable one and I am just not having any luck.  I believe because I am constantly trying to adjust myself to get comfortable in my chair, it affects my productivity.  My rear end starts to hurt and my tailbone will get sore when I shift.   I am just so tired for the search for a comfy chair.  So, would you all mind sharing with me a fairly economical comfortable chair preference?

Thank you so much,

Base for the ball chairs
I actually bought my exercise ball/chair through ebay and it came with a base which has a small back support as well as wheels.  It works out great.
Herman Miller chairs
Thanks for your advice. Both replies to my email suggested this chair, and one of my neighbors did, as well. I guess I'll have to see if the neighbor will let me come over and sit in it for a while, so I can be sure. I can't afford ANY chair right now (now 'til my production improves, as all my accounts are new to me right now), but I figured in the meantime I'd start shopping around so I'd know what I want someday when I DO have some money.
great comfy chairs
Hi!  There are office chairs by Herman Miller that offer great comfortable chairs designed for people that sit most of the day.  They are expensive starting from $500 and up.  I got the middle of the line and I have to tell you that I don't mind sitting now and worth every penny.  I still take my breaks but this chair is like heaven.  they flex with the movement of the person.  you can also go to cns.com for a full description and ordering.  you would not regret it!
Back pain and chairs.
Go for the pillows. I tried to splurge a while ago and get a new chair, took it back and got a new pillow. I use a thin pillow for my bottom and a nice orthopedic pillow for my back. I'm tempted to try the keyboard on my lap like I've seen suggested here but my husband just brought me a new keyboard tray from a teardown job he was doing that sells for almost 200.00. I think he'd be hurt if I didn't try it.
I get to take 2 Herman Miller chairs to try!
No one in my neck of the woods sells these things, except for a place 200+ miles away.  This business supply place, however, regularly makes trips out my way to set up office furniture and said they have demo chairs they would be happy to let me test out for 2 weeks at no charge!  So, I have an Aeron and Mirra Chair here in my little office and I'll be putting in a full week's work on each one!  So, if you have wanted to try one of these chairs but not pay for it before making a decision, I HIGHLY recommend just asking if you can test drive a demo one for a week or two.  I honesly had no idea they did such a thing so I just thought I'd share the fact that it is possible!
3 office chairs in a year??? What are you doing? Aerobics in them??

Aeron, Mira, Celle Chairs - Anyone Have One? (sm)
Does anyone use an Aeron, Celle, or Mira chair by Herman Miller and are they worth the price?  Many thanks for any info.
Office Depot has chairs on display U can try before you buy. sm
Got mine there over 5 years ago, fully adjustable, I think it was $129, still good.
Can we talk about headphones/keyboards/chairs
and other ergonomic products that help you all do your job more productively and comfortably?

I still use the basic headset MQ supplies; however, I'm wondering if there is something better, not too expensive, that produces a bit better sound and a bit more comfort.  I'm thinking it might help out with some of the not-so-great sounding dictation and/or ESL dictators.  What type of headset do you use and why?

What keyboards do you all use and how do you like them?   I have a Microsoft Natural Ergo and I use a slight reverse tilt.  I find that angle feels a bit better on the wrists.

Does anyone have one of those desks that you can raise/lower?  Sometimes the ol' bum goes to sleep and I'm thinking standing up at times would help.

What about foot pedals/foot rests?  I actually have 2 foot pedals so I can switch legs quick w/o reaching down and dragging the foot pedal back and forth.

Thanks for any and all of your opinions!

Know of any good chairs for back pain?
I have been using a $20 task chair from Wal-Mart for the past three years, I am sitting her now six months pregnant about ready to die from upper and lower back pain.  Anyone have suggestions for a good quality chair they like, right now money is not an option,  I would pay big $$$ for just a little relief.
Herman Miller Aeron Chairs
As a side note, for the tailbone pain, I bought a coccyx cushion and I don't have the pain whatsoever anymore. It's wonderful.
mesh chairs.....you need to email or find Hayseed.
She test sat 2 chairs from Herman Miller in the last couple of weeks or so. she would be the one who could give you the skinny on them.
I've owned cheaper chairs and learned the hard way.

The old saying that you get what you pay for is true when it comes to these cheap chairs! My back always hurt and I was having to buy a new chair at least yearly. You do the math; I've already had the $1000 chair five years and I quit having the backaches five years ago. This chair is no where close to wearing out and will last me at least another five years, probably more. So, if you think that spending $200 every year on a cheap chair is worth it, you go right ahead; I didn't hear anything but thanks for the OP for my suggestion.

Hahaha I like it!

and they can call it USI (United States of India Trans___s/l iption Servises.  Their website can brag of the great work they do and services they provide for their customers.  Like a TAT of 24 to 72 hours, depending on how hard the doctor is.  They can boast that they will have a 2 percent accuracy percentage.  That is 2 percent if you want the lowest rate which doesnt offer QA services.  But your accuracy percentage can go up to almost 50 percent if their experienced QA team glances over your document and can hopefully spell everything right that you dictate.  And then there is the only 2 reports out of 100 typed discount where they could only type 2 because they couldn't understand the rest and they cherry picked!  And OOPS, there is the no one else to type it cuz the Indians didnt understand you either discount.
HAHAHA

You are all so arrogant.  Do you really think your abilities are sooooo keen that you can have this special sense of what poster is who?  Actually, I am the one ROFL because you all look so silly.  I AM a different poster than the other.  I dont work for MQ, just an MT who is SICK AND TIRED of hearing you gripe and complain like infants!  Not all MTs have bad attitudes and complain all day long.  And just because there may be 2 or more people posting good things doesnt mean they are really just 1 person.

Of course, if it makes you feel better to think that there could only be 1 person who is tired of hearing it, then go ahead and PRETEND.

HELPFUL HINT:  If you took all the time you spent complaining and applied it to work, MAYBE you could make more than the 2 dollars an hour you are complaining about.

HAHAHA Whatever do you mean by that?!

There are quite a few good conversations to stay out of here. It's frightening, the character shown on this board! Amusing sometimes...mainly sad and frightening!

After years of sitting in "cheap" chairs, I bought an Aeron chair and it was worth it!!

Hahaha Well, now have you had any MT experience at all?
Any education from an MT course?

You WILL have to learn! When I worked at the hospital and trained MTs, it was MUCH easier to train them starting on a specialty or two first, and I usually started with cardiology and orthopedics. Then went to neurology, oncology, infectious disease, and so forth.

Again, that is MY experience and MY perspective. Others may tell you different.
Illegal? Hahaha
Your so-called contract was a statement of what your rate would be at that time. It did not guarantee you any specific amount of work nor pay for any specified length of time.

Go seek help! Go seek an attorney! Throw more of the money you're losing to a cause you won't win.

It's disheartening, I agree. Spheris has done it...know what? They're still in business and they still have great MTs (along with the pitiful ones as well). A few jumped ship when it happened; some came back. New ones came on board. The company moved on and is doing better.

That is what will happen here. I'm not trying to downplay your reaction -- you are right to feel upset about it. But please, please don't waste more of what you are losing by seeking help where you won't find it.

Regarding the F9 feature -- absolutely no company is required to charge clients and pay employees on the same definition...and yes, there is a difference - it is called making a profit. If MQ (or any other MT company) wants to charge clients for a flat rate, a per-minute rate, a per-line rate, a combination of flat rate per report + lines, etc., but pay their MTs only a 65-character line...then that is their right. It isn't any MTs business what/how MQ charges their clients. That's business, period. Not just this industry either.

It IS your business that you be paid what you agreed to under your "contract". However, since they have adjusted their pay scale, that "contract" is null. You have the right not to accept it by quitting. You have as much right to nullify that contract as they do.

This is an exchange -- skills and services for money. If either party doesn't care for how the other is conducting/upholding their end, or if circumstances change, either party can leave. It is called employment at will.

Please, save yourself the money at least. Work on healing the heartache of it.
Hahaha -- I'm confused on who I was even
talking to...you or the one who answered below!!

Oh well, I think we all got each other's points!!

We are really dating ourselves here, huh?! Hahaha
The mother of one of my son's friends said something to that effect to me the other day. She is a stay-at-home mom and they live only on what her husband makes. Great for them. They are very religious. Great.

However, then she proceeded to tell me that if more women would just stay home instead of having to have their SUVs and their face lifts and their fashionable clothes, that the men could then make decent money to support their families.

Once she caught the look on my face, she quickly made a notation that of course that didn't apply to women like ME who had to support a family by themselves. I just smiled.

Again, if I have a billion dollars and want to work -- that's my right and my choice. I don't owe it to any man or any other woman to sit down and not take a job so they can have it!

That kind of thinking is dangerous, in my opinion.
hahaha! Thant's about right! nm

I haven't posted on this thread before and there's SO much to read on it! LOL

Thanks for pointing it out.

BTW...I never said I knew everything! Gawwddd, if I DID know everything I sure as heck wouldn't be on this board!! Hahahaha
Hahaha I know. I agree whole-heartedly.
When I first started watching this board, I was shocked. I truly was. Shocked at how infantile a good majority of the posters seemed to be.

Then, it became quite amusing. It is clear to me that what is going on is basically the Dr. Jeckyll/Mr. Hyde syndrome. These MTs must be nice, somewhat professional, decent to anyone who can see their face and know their names. However, give them a chance to be anonymous, where they feel no one will ever know, and their true underlying character surfaces.

They are simply miserable. They feel cheated. They feel they cannot bank (literally, hahaha) on this industry because it isn't what they want it to be. They feel wronged in that they must do hard work for good money or do without. Hard work never hurt anyone; it's lack of it that destroys people.

I have had some very good conversations with a few mature people on this board. People who are intelligent enough to hold differing opinions without being dysfunctional. People who recognize the difference between opinion and fact. People who do not subscribe to the infestation of misery in their attitude.

These children on this board find it perfectly fine for their own opinions to be displayed here (complete with all the little icons and capital letters -- practicing for school, I'm sure -- and slang language) but the minute someone posts who has a different opinion they get all hysterical.

Hahaha It's worth the amusement and the occasional good conversation.
Her name is mother alright. hahaha
Brace yourself.  You know it's coming.  It's Mother Busy MT'ing (???) Hammer (Preaching) Time!!!!    YOU WILL LISTEN TO BUSY MT'ING!!!!!
Hahaha. I just know I received it in an email
and regardless of the author, it is well written and speaks my perspective perfectly!

Thanks for the information, though!
Disgusting commercial, huh?! Hahaha
I use Brawny paper towels and Lysol Kitchen spray on counters and appliances. I use plastic scrubbies on the sink and anything I need to scrub up before the dishwasher and the put the scrubbie in the dishwasher as well. I spray Lysol on the sink and faucets before I go to bed.

I started this when I saw Oprah's show on women who horde and won't clean/throw away anything. The experts she had on the show had checked one woman's kitchen sink for bacteria and compared it to her commode and the commode was cleaner! I about fell over. I have dishcloths and dishtowels but they are washed after every single use! Ewwwwww!
Thanks.. just call me blind!!!! hahaha

ROFLMAO - too funny!!!! HAHAHA!! nm
