OSI bait and switch
I probably would have stayed with OSi but they did the same to me.  I got the contract signed it with the accounts they were assigning me.  Started working noone ever gave me the list of people in my group so I could chat with someone when I needed help etc., supervisor would never follow through with promises, was given accounts I had no information for and was not even in my contract.  BREACH OF CONTRACT on their part.  Keep looking there are some out there.
OSI, bait and switch
Want the name out in the forefront.  Don't want to mislead anyone.
Bait and switch.
You have a right to be .  It is nice to vent here too.  We are routing for you!
Bait and Switch
I hear you loud and clear. My take on this current trend is that when you state what you want (job types) you are showing weakness for what you don't want (unfamiliar ground). Employment is tight now so they want people that say "bring it all on as I have no favorites. I like the variety and challenge of new territory instead of same old, same old.

They are favoring people who can step up to the plate without whining and do it all and with a smile. They are sick of catering to some MTs who cherry pick their way to a paycheck and leave their left overs for whomever.

So bite the bullet and start learning something new and get good at it. If you don't someone else will come along and only be too happy to do it for you.

Yea, it's a little bit of a heads up I would say. It's happening across the boards now. You are not alone.
This sounds more to me like bait and switch.

company offering clinic work exclusively.  This sounds like gravy work for newbies, and then switching them into something more difficult.

I don't mean to sound unkind, but if you are working for an MTSO, then no account belongs to you.  The accounts you transcribe for belong to the MTSO and not you the transcriptionist.  The only time an account belongs to you is if you contract the physician him or herself and give your rates.  Once in a while you'll find a physician or facility to employee you as an MT, but they usually expect you to work on-site.  Good luck in your endeavors.

Most of the time, an MTSO is not out for the MT, but for the client and making money for themselves.  They don't really concern themselves too much with whether the MT can make any money or not.  It's just not high on their list.

Bait and Switch, tired of it!

Oh, I just had to come here and vent. So, thanks in advance for listening!

I have had 1 employee job and 2 IC jobs since Christmas-time and have been bait and switched up and down in all 3!  Applied for certain types of work type, certain types of benefits (the employee job), and got zip.  Then, went IC and again, applied for certain work types, certain accounts, hired and promised the world, and then never ever got the work types, instead got all the ESL and all the resident's ESL discharge summaries and that is it.

What is the deal? These places think that when we don't get the benefits promised, the paycheck promised, the work promised (I will do all work types mind you and am very flexible, just hired for certain kinds of work and then only put on the very worst ESL discharges at all jobs), we will be broken down because we are afraid of not having a job, or not having the ability to get another?

I am truly burnt out at this. I worked for years at one hospital, and when they cut incentive and sent work to outsource, since I have been in the world of MTSOs, bait and switch up and down. And this includes the very well thought of and highly rated companies here from last fall (you probably can guess the ones).

Of course, perhaps they think the MT needs to be quiet and be happy to have a job (which by the way, all 3 ran out of work and slim pickings recently) since everything is going to India.  Is this some kind of scare tactic? Shut up and put up? Really. I am interviewing as an employee again, and hoping to stay because I just cannot take this bait and switch, no promises kept, demeaning treatment anymore... Thanks again for listening, and hope there are people on here who do not have the same sob story, who actually get the pay, benefits and work types they were hired for and promised! Have a nice day.

Yep, I hear ya! They pulled the bait and switch on me before I even got started!
Unreal - Recruiter promised one thing - got the instant contract through email with the exact opposite!  Bailed before I started! Sorry for your bait and switch.
I'll agree. Have had the bait n switch happen to me several times. nm

ER is the epitomy of acute care. How is this bait & switch? Were you hired for op notes only? nm

HAHAHAH.....bait, bait, bait
Laurie is too happy, happy, happy to take the bait.  Besides she is waiting for her doctor to finish chewing and swallowing.  His cookie.
KVM switch great- question
I also have 2 computers and swap back and forth for keyborad, monitor, mouse. It is great. Easy to install and use. Do have a question though, you stated with a couple of keystrokes. I manually swap between computers, is there another way. This would be awesome
KVM switches are great. To switch
between computers, I just hit the scroll lock key twice and the up arrow to switch between them. Very easy to install.
MS Word 2007 -- I have to switch over to this. Any hints, tips & tricks would be great. Thanks!
I've heard some people are not very happy with it.  Any suggestions on how to get started, and any good tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help and expertise!
Cautious
I was wondering about that.  I think a lady Julie or something advertised on the job board.  I looked the number up on the internet and found out it was Ameriplan.  Turned me off right away when I read some posts on ripaway.com.  Thank you for the double confirmation.
I agree 100%, just wanted to stress the "be cautious" part! Blessings!

And please keep us posted.  Will be worried about you, but also eager to hear the good news!

The key to doing this is you have to have a routine and follow it. (sm)
What might work for one person may not work for the next, but f you make it YOUR routine it will become a regular part of your day. For me (and I've been at this for a long, long time) my best hours are in the early morning. I get up, shower, get dressed, put the coffee on, take care of whatever needs taken care of so it won't interfere with your day (feed the cat, let the dog out, whatever you would normally do if you had to leave your house for the day and go out and work). Then sit and work for 2 hours, take a short break, work another 2 hours, break for lunch, and so on until your work day is finished. It also helps if you keep your work area clean so you can have a fresh desk to start off with. NO TV. Don't answer the phone while you're working to take personal calls. Do that on your break. These are just some ideas that work for me.
My exercise routine
Walk to the fridge, open door (works arms), lift food (good strength training, lifting weights), put in mouth, close door, walk back to desk while lifting cup of coffee to lips.  I gave my legs and arms a good workout, also my mouth.  Transcription is hard.  But I know if I keep up my exercise routine, I will be buff.
That is pretty routine for them to want
I have had both office accounts and surgery center accounts that requested that I send them that information.  I'd rather not have to do it, but sometimes you just have to do what comes with the territory.
I have them for routine procedures for
the same doc -- T&A, cholecystectomies, appy's, and a lot of my orthopedic doctors. I also have them for ROS and PE exams. I just leave jump markers for values, right/left, and things like that.
I think getting back into a structured routine
may be difficult and then there is the office politics.   At least you can do your time and come home and leave work at work.
What is your best at-home work routine?

I'm curious what hours you work, how long and often do you take breaks.  What schedule allows you to be most productive? e.g., frequent short breaks, less frequent longer ones, split shifts, etc.

Oh honey, sounds like my daily routine.

You just gotta push through.  I've noticed that as my kids get older, it has gotten somewhat better.  I have a 9 and 11 year old and they have gotten to the point of seeing after themselves while I'm working.  They were 3 and 5 when I started and it was really tough.  Now If they make a mess, they clean it up themselves.  Unless the house is on fire, someone is dying, etc. they are to leave me alone when the headset is on.  I have had to really draw the line with them.  It didn't happen overnight, it took quite a while for them to understand.  Fortunately my husband understands all this and has really helped me work with them on this issue.

Friends and family on the other hand haven't been so easy to train.  I screen my calls with caller ID and let the machine get the ones I don't have time to deal with.  My machine has a message stating that "I am working at the moment and am unable to answer your call.  Please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible."  I have also had a put a sign on my front door stating "Please Do Not Disturb.  I am currently working and unable to visit at this time.  Please come back after 4:00 p.m., I will be available then."  I had to do this because people just couldn't seem to get it.  Just because I was at home, they thought they could just drop in.  I even have some to still ring the doorbell because they think that sign isn't for them.  But you know what...I feel that is very rude and disrespectful of them.  They can sit out there all day for all I care because until I'm finished working, I won't answer.

Your not alone in all of this.  I believe this is what most of us who work at home go through.  Eventually it will get better but you must put some rules into place for everyone and enforce them.  I know with very young children it is hard for them to understand this but if you begin now helping them understand, then it will get easier as they grow.  Also, if you have older children that can help with the younger ones, give them an incentive to help you out.  You've just got to be creative with it and find what works for you.

Hope this helps!

This would make a good Seinfeld routine.
Of course probably only MTs would understand the jokes. Somebody needs to write a book about MTs and what they go through. It really would be touching and funny, and a bit tragic, I think. It could be marketed in the Stedmen's line of books or something. It could have cartoons. This title where did QA come from? This makes me want to be all creative. Of course, this MT is full of talk, but not a whole lot of action. LOL.
Ant bait
Raid has an ant bait that is pretty good.  It looks like a roach motel and you can put it on the counter, etc.  Also you have to really scrub with bleach or a product like it.  The ants actually leave a chemical trail behind them so their fellow minions can follow their trail.  To really get rid of them you have to obliterate the trail.
Where I am, using Winscribe, the supervisor on duty routine gives updates (sm)
with who is working on a particular account, how many jobs there are, if any have been kicked back (she/he can tell as they are out of sequence, obviously taken into someones local queue and then returned to the pool. The name of those working at any given time is announced, this lets us know if someone comes on board during unscheduled hours without clocking in.

It is great for me as I follow the rules. We are not to take jobs into the local queue (cherrypicking) and we are not to work outside of scheduled hours unless it is granted and there is ample work for the person coming on board so they do not take away from the regularly scheduled MTs. I love my job!
that's my routine to a T, 'cept I walk the dog instead of doing catbox duty. :) nm

Terro bait traps
Terro is the best thing I have used indoors.  It is especially good in places like the kitchen because I don't like to spray in there.  We found the fireants coming in around the kitchen window one night a few weeks ago and I put some out, the next morning the ants were all dead.  Just to be sure we found their nest  outside just under the window and sprinkled it with Orthen powder.
Just dont bait them. There are gonna

Funny thing, I knew I could bait you.
Call 1-900-555-5555 for more information for just $10.00 a minute.  I can tell you your future as a sucker will go nowhere.
They must be so frustrated. Gnashing their evil-doing teeth. Trying new bait, tossing out the line.
But we're not gonna BITE! Have I mentioned to you that rabbits bite? Some do, though I don't think they particularly mean it...
Has anyone had to switch from MT...
because of problems with carpal tunnel or other wrist issues?  I have been offered a job out of the house doing something other than MT.  I would not even be considering the position other than I have started having a lot of problems with my wrists even though I have the ergo keyboard, wrist supports, etc.  Has anyone else considered or left MT because of this?
You only need the KVM switch if
you only got the CPU and it is expected that you will use your own keyboard, monitor, mouse.
KVM switches have nothing to do with internet connections.
Are you going to have to switch to VR soon? sm
I was under the impression that it was not an option to just do straight transcription.  Thanks.
KMV switch?
I have not heard of that.   What is it used for?
KVM switch
I used to use a KVM switch.  I never had any trouble connecting to the internet.  I found it very easy to set up and use.  Good luck with it!!
Do you mean Alt Tab to switch to another app? nm
xx
...a KVM switch for the 2nd...nm

You Have a KVM Switch??

Sometimes the monitor gets "caught" when you have a KVM switch and go from one computer to another.

If you do not have a KVM switch, try updating your drivers or reinstalling them.  Also, it's good to make sure your BIOS is up to date (you can get updates from your manufacturer's website).

KVM switch help - sm please
I know I can switch back and forth from my laptop to my main tower via a KVM switch as I heard about it a few years back on this board. Could anyone write below or e-mail me as to how I can set it up and how it works for you? Where did you get yours and how simple it is to use.  I would like to stay in the middle of my report and research a subject without leaving the screen I am working on, i.e., one screen, one keyboard, two computers. Thanks for any info,, I really appreciate it.
Did my doc switch to you?
One of my regulars insists on dictating punctuation (which he does not use, by the way) and I have to constantly go back and take out things that I automatically put in (because it makes sense). And he also spells things for me, which usually are close, but wrong. He tells me things like "Feb. 2, 2008, no, just say of this year" and other things that make me want to get on a plane and go find him and smack him! And he's an eater and a (huge) sniffler. And he complains about me and sends my reports back if I do anything different than exactly what he dictates.
Okay, I feel better. Do you? I didn't know "external hemorrhoids" were so common!
Buy a little switch box.
It is very easy to set up. I think it is called a KVM switch and is inexpensive. I have one that I have used several different times. The only problem I had was that the mouse connection on mine would not let me plug in the mouse, so I had to use separate ones. For the monitor it worked perfectly.
KVM switch
My employer bought mine after I asked for that instead of a second monitor. I was told he paid about $14 for it. I am fairly certain he ordered it online. It was pretty generic- just a little metal box that had a toggle switch to switch from computer A to computer B.
You need to get a KVM switch.
This allow you to hook up two towers to one monitor. All you do is hit the scroll lock twice and it switches between computers. Hope that helps.
Try Switch as well

They have a free program that will do so much, but they also have another one for purchase that does many more types of files.  I'm not sure if the free one supports .wav or not, but I know that the paid one does.  It is through NCH.  www.nch.com/au/switch

Best KVM switch?

Can anyone tell me a good KVM switch?  I have a seperate computer for transcription and home use, but not enough space for two monitors, mice, and keyboards.  I have heard that some switches get all screwy when you type fast and I want to avoid that.  Thanks all!

Best KVM Switch
I do have a Belkin, generally works fine.  Sometimes once I switch, I am unable to get back to the other computer for some reason but most times it works great.  A very valuable tool, that's for sure!
how about using Switch
to convert .sri files to .wav? Then you can play them on a player other than ExpressScribe.

Switch is also made by NCH and is a free download.
KVM switch

Yes it is called a KVM switch.  You can get them online; I got mine through Tiger Direct or Best Buy has one too.

THIS is an example of a KVM switch.

KVM switch

Switch
Yes there is a switch you hook up to both computers, once it's hooked up you just flick the switch back and forth.  It's probably expensive.  Go to a large computer store and they will find it for you.  I think its called a Belkin switch or something.
Just made the switch to

PC-Cillin from Norton.  I heard from a guru that it was much better.  My friend had Norton and it did not pick up a virus, and I was having a problem with my automatic scan.  I had it set for every week, and sometimes it would run, other times not.  I also have the Ad-Aware.
