I am sure you have an open case with Child Support Enforcement. I have read alot of posts at stepfamily websites so I'll tell you what I know.

One thing is to read the law for your state (all states vary a little about specific points). Georgia's child support law is on the internet, so OK's probably is too. Georgia's law specifically says what they will do if child support isn't paid.

You need to call Child Support Enforcement about every other day (literally). DOCUMENT every conversation, every reply. Keep this log (it can be your gold).

If you are not satisfied with your agent, you most certainly can ask to speak with that agent's supervisor, and keep continue to talk only with the supervisor.

I've read that you should always be polite, even when frustrated. Always thank them and, if you are really pleased with any results, send a thank you letter.

I've read that you can write your congress people for your state. Explain your case as briefly as you can (don't send pages and pages, just briefly state the facts). Letters to these people have gotten results.

Please don't waste your money on those agencies. They will take a good part of your children's money. Why let them take that money when your government has an agency in place to assure that your children get their child support? If your problem is locating the deadbeat, you can find out so much on the internet (and there's other ways I've read about too). I read that a very popular for-profit agency went under (ACES, I think). I would think they would since the services should be for free from your government.

There's probably other things I'm forgetting to tell you, but tomorrow morning you must call Child Support Enforcement. You may not even be able to speak with the agent assigned to your case, but a message should be left for him/her to call you back. (My husband has full custody and has been trying to get child support from his ex for 2 years. He communicates with his agent by E-mail! If that's not an option, though, you could talk to the person who answers the phone. This good if you only have a quick update or need to give them a new address, etc. because they are usually typing an e-mail while your talking to send to the agent. For the first time, or to get reacquainted, be sure to talk to your agent though.

I also read (in Georgia anyway) that each agent has 350+ cases assigned to him/her! You want your file "on top" so you don't get lost "at the bottom". It will be time consuming to call every other day (at least once a week), but that way, your file will "make it to the top" so to speak.

You know, there is so much more to tell you, and more tips, but it would be a book! Do what I did in the beginning, start reading websites that have to do with child support. Google your state and child support. Join the Yahoo group called CS Advice. You will learn alot!

Hope this at least gets you going. I hate to hear that our government is failing you when there is something in place in all states. Remember, this is their job. Your case is just as important as anyone else's case the agent is working on. Please be persistent; your children need to be supported by both parents; one parent's income does not give them the advantage that every child NEEDS.

Good luck to you!
