Until I bought myself some "wrist splints" back in the late 1980s, made of stretchy material and locked in place with Velcro. Before that, I used to wake up many nights with excruciating pain, and in the morning, my hands would be like blocks of ice. That was before so-called "ergonomic" keyboards were widespread, and I never used one, so I don't know if that would have helped or not. Maybe it depends on the size of your carpal tunnel.
