Can some tell me, or direct me to, about editing. Sm

I need to expand my horizons I guess.  I've been out of MT work for 6 weeks with no signs of hire in the future.  I've seen editing jobs..editing and editing VR..I don't even know what that involves.  Any helpers out there?  Thanks!

I found out a long time ago that there are two kinds of editing.. one is editing MTs work (like QA)
and the other is editing as in VR. I have done VR editing, but when I put down this as experience on a resume, I was asked by the HR person if this meant that I had "edited" other MTs work. I think there is a lot of confusion out there and I wish they would just keep that as QA instead of calling it editing. Just be clear in what you want to edit as most companies that expect you to "edit" other MTs in a QA position do require you have a lot of experience. If you just going for VR editing, which is what Transcend has available and there are a few companies out there doing VR, none of which I think really require much experience as it is easy to learn. Hope I made some sense and it can be pretty confusing on how companies use the term "editing" thus it effects their expectations as far as experience goes.
Editing is the higher skill. I earn more editing SM
because I'm able to produce more--if the company doesn't adjust the way production's figured down and down again to keep the account from going elsewhere (when that happened to me on EditScript with no explanation of why my income was dropping, I went elsewhere also).
Question about Editing for those who do editing
What would you consider to be  the average amount of lines a day of editing based on a 65 space line in an 8 hour day.  If you can do an average of 1200 straight typing what would be the expectation for a day of editing?  What do you think is a fair rate of pay for that editing? Do you know of companies that offer a tiered incentive rate for editing rates to do most of them offer a flat rate for lph?   Do you find you make more money,  less money or about the same than straight typing?  Thanks to anyone who is willing to share this information.  Feel free to email if you would rather share by email.
VR editing versus MT editing pay

Greetings,

How does VR editing prod. pay compare to hourly pay ($15) regular QA and constantly being threatened to start being payed production.  Are there any special tricks to know to make good money on a VR program?  Any companies that have VR and are better than other ones would be appreciated as well.  Any and all assistance much appreciated-have to make a change shortly, so looking for a great company that offers ins. benefits.  Thanks for your time.

Direct TV

We have had Direct TV for approximately 12 years now.  The price is reasonable and I just got an upgrade to the DVR for my sons to record shows, sports events and Direct TV took the box on the t.v. in the living room and put it on the t.v. in the kitchen for my husband to watch.  Direct TV is great.  We only have problems with it during severe lightning storms, but turn it off anyway, (picture freezes when storn is overhead).  It costs about 94.00 per month for all the sports channels, movie channels and then 5.99 month extra for the DVR, which works great.  But our price is expensive because of all the sports channels.  Hope this helps in your decision.  I have never had DISH, as we tried Direct first and never stopped or switched to cable or anything, as we found the service is great.

MQ direct deposit
On Friday if payday on Saturday.  On Monday if pay day Sunday.  .
MQ direct deposit
As a rule, when the pay date is on Sunday I usually have my deposit in the account on Saturday a.m. The last pay date I think fell on a Saturday and that was deposited on Friday a.m.
They don't do direct deposit for IC's.
Nobody at SS answered my e-mails.
Direct hit on cherrypickers
Just wondering - how do you cherrypick on DQS?
Direct hit on cherrypickers!

Here's some good news - my branch just eliminated cherrypicking by disabling the Dictaphone button that sends reports back into the pool, thereby rending cherrypickers impotent! Yea!!!

Now they have to do the same frickin' lousy docs as meeee!

Direct Deposit
Independent contractors cannot receive direct deposit typically as a standard course of events, I am told, because that would be treating them like an employee, and not appropriate for the IRS and accounting purposes.
Direct deposit
I would love direct deposit!  I have worked for many services as an IC and most offer it but currently do not have it.  I miss it so much!
I think it is in direct proportion to how often
they want to be "bothered" by a lowly MT with questions - lol. I say this because the more exp you have, the less questions you will have. I have seen some with the audacity to put in their ad, "quality-ready work." I doubt they know what it means!LOL!
when privacy direct first came out.....sm

it only cost $2/month extra - today I think it costs $19.95 but to me it's worth it because #1 it cuts all telemarketer calls (and I have been on the Do Not Call list since that began) and I can also take my phone charges off my MTSO business at tax time......

call your phone company and ask them if they offer anything like Privacy Director.  *S*

please email me direct--sm
I tried your email link through this message, but it did not work. would love to hear from you on a personal level. thx.
no direct deposit either...this is what I do...
I'm an IC for 2 companies that don't provide direct deposit and I just found that waiting on snail mail to bring my check was too undependable.  I now have my checks sent overnight.  Sure I have to pay for the charge of it but it is worth knowing when my money will be here.  Most companies will do this if you ask them to and they just deduct it from your pay.  I don't know your situation but I am able to use this expense on my taxes each year, so I definite feel that it is worth it.
Direct deposit - do you have it?

At my present job, I do not have direct deposit.  I really miss it.  It's frustrating me.  A small thing, yet irritating!

Do you have DD?

DIRECT TYPE
I have also typed directly into Meditech through VPN. I have never heard this called "direct type" - my 'guess' would be yes!
Direct Deposit
I also have direct deposit. I get paid every other Thursday, and by Thursday morning my check is in my account. That's just my experience. Maybe you should call the company and see if there's a problem. Has it ever been late before?
I would call HIM direct...
(Health Information Management) which is Med. Rec. Normally when you call the director will never answer. Either ask directly "Can you tell me if you have a transcription department or if you outsource your work?" Or ask if they have any openings for transcription. They can only say no we don't or we don't do that here. You could probably even ask who they outsource it to.

Unless you get the idiots that I called the other day. Our coverstatino... Like above post...Called hosp. I used to work at because rumor was they had an opening. Called HIM..Do you have an opening for MT? Umm I don't know I'll have to transfer you to HR. (HR) Do you have an opening for MT? Um no we don't. Do you have opening for an at home MT as described. Umm I don't know we would not know that, let me check with HIM....No they do not. Can you tell me who is the director of HIM now? Umm I'm sorry but we are not allowed to give out that information. I had to call back and ask the clerk in HIM who the darn HIM director was.

Who in the world cannot tell you who the dept. managers are. That was so brainless. Explained that I had worked there previously and wondered if it had changed. Wonder what would have happend if I asked to speak to HIM director. Um I'm sorry she's not allowed to talk to anyone!
If you get direct deposit set up
(if your company offers it), then you won't have to wait for snail mail. But no company is going to predict what day your check is going to hit your mailbox. Pay day is the day checks are cut and sent out.

No direct deposit, huh?

See if you have a Tiger Direct near you
and tell them what you need. DH says mine was only $299, and he picked it up the same day, so I guess it was in stock and everything.
That's way too low for IC with direct clients. sm
I live in a small midwestern town, so believe me, line rates aren't splendid here but as an IC, you should charge at least 10 cents per line. However, you should add up your expenses, i.e., supplies you'll need, gas if deliveries, etc., and figure out what you need in order to turn a profit on top of that. If a practice won't pay 10 cents per line, you don't want it because they're just looking for a bargain and the first person that walks in quoting a cheaper rate will have your job. JMHO as someone who has dealt with direct clients for almost 10 years now.
direct deposit??
I have never done this kind of work before and signed up to work with a lady from qmedet solutions.  She wants my bank account number to direct deposit my check.  I am leary of doing this because she didn't check references or want to see a resume.  We emailed back and forth, she called me to explain the job and then requested my personal information.  Is this the way everyone works?
direct deposit??
I have never done this before and wanted to know if this sounds legit.  I placed my job information on a site for MTs.  I received an email from a lady who works for qmedet solutions saying that she wanted to hire me.  We emailed back and forth about whether I was interested and then she called me to discuss the job.  She then emailed me forms to fill out my personal information including my bank account number for direct deposit.  I just want to make sure that this is normal because she didn't get any personal references from me nor did she request any kind of resume.
Also at Tiger Direct
If you don't see one you like with pre-installed XP, you can place your order by phone and ask for it instead of Vista. You don't have that option on most of the ones with a web order. Though they do have XP PRO OEM for $139 if you want to just install it yourself.
Tiger Direct sm

Which computer did you buy from them?  It's been a long time since I bought a computer, and I don't really know what I need.

Do their computers just come with the keyboard and mouse?  Does it have any software on it?  I have Word that I can install, so that's not a problem.

I was so worried I wouldn't be able to find a computer with XP on it.  I appreciate the info!

Are you doing this direct or through an MTSO

Is this your own account or are you working for a company who is paying you this line rate?

If you're working for an MTSO, then 13 cents is outstanding.  If you're doing it directly and all of your expenses and taxes need to come out of that 13 cents, then it might be a hair on the low side, imo.

LOL! May be direct but still HAPPY sm
being an MT!
MQ direct deposit on Friday, is NOT
correct! Is paid on the 10th and 25th, if those dys fall on a Sat/Sun, then your check does not go in until the following Monday...how it is & how it's always been.

As other's advised, check the 2005 payroll schedule, maybe print it out for your referrences?
thomson education direct
Can any one tell me about this program for medical transcription?  I have started the course, but feel unsure about it.  It is it an okay course?
Actually, the testing is a direct result of...SM
all of the schools and training programs out there that don't begin to teach a person what they need to know to be able to do this work. People come out of the training programs and think they are ready to go to work, but in reality they haven't got a clue. The only way to weed through these people is to require testing to be sure the person being hired can actually do the work. That's the long and the sort of it, in my opinion.
How do you order movies from Direct TV?
I'm a fairly new subscriber to Direct TV and up until now when we wanted to watch a movie, we would just go to the video store and rent one.  I know Direct TV lets you order those movies from them and they put it on your bill and you get to watch the movie when you want to.  Do any of you do this and do you find it more convenient/more expensive?  Also, do you have to have a phone line to do this?  Exactly how does it work?  Thank you for the info and feeling a little dumb having to ask!
About offering direct deposit.
Klaar is getting ready to offer direct deposit (again). Oh boy, gotta wonder if they formerly offered it, then canceled it, and are ready to offer it again (soon).
Did you know that not everyone can get direct deposit for their businesses? sm
There are a lot of factors, and banks will not take on a small company. They want to provide services for bigger companies that have a lot of money going through their accounts.

I deal with one of the biggest banks in the country and they will not let me do direct deposit until we deposit over $100,000 per month or it is not worth it for them.

The smaller banks in my area do not even offer it.

All I can do is get checks out on time and correctly.
EVERY MTSO CAN get direct deposit
There are many payroll management companies that offer this service for a small fee. Do a Google search for ADP, Paychex, Gorrie Reagan.....THere are several.

Even if you cannot get it done via your bank, there are many other ways it can be done. Having to wait on a paycheck to come in the mail is very difficult for most of us. I also spend $50 a month to have my check overnighted. I am currently looking to move to a company who DOES offer direct deposit.
Is your monitor at direct eye level and sm
is your keyboard on a tray that puts it at an easily reachable level..you don't want to be reaching UP with your arms and looking UP for the monitor. Everything should be at an easy reach.
direct all her mail to its own folder
most email clients allow you to do this. Then once a month delete it all. It never shows up in your main in-box
Used to be by check, now direct deposit.

Love my direct deposit. nm

I wouldn't know what to do without direct deposit...
The money is always there when it's supposed to be and if you want to go on vacation or something you don't have to worry about getting your paycheck and going to the bank. I have never had a problem with DD and I have been using it for 12+ years.
Love direct deposit, too! sm
I've had it for the last 10 years, everywhere I have worked. Never a problem. I'm more leery of getting checks in the mail now, since some of my mail comes opened, like my check stub today. I do most of my banking and bill paying online now. I feel safer with that than the mail anymore.  Hubby used to have direct deposit at his old job but not at this job. With direct deposit, it's usually posted when I get up in the morning. I have to wait to go to the bank when he gets home from work around 4:30.  What a pain.
I only have 1 direct account so far and have not encounted - sm
any real nastiness. I know the main doc got a little PO's at me a few weeks ago as the work was a day later than normal (I had had an accident and couldn't type 1 night), but her assistant explained to her my problem and I never heard another thing about it. More and more they have called me during the day asking for immediate TAT of some rush work (though it really was not that urgent and could have waited until morning); that is more difficult to deal with and I hope it does not become a habit, they do it about once a month now. I don't deal with the OM much but deal with the main doc's personal assistant and she likes me even though we have never actually met. The other doc in the practice is a piece of work though, he got mad me for a mistake the staff made, they did explain to him that is was not me but they never did come clean to him about what actually happened (they accidentally erased his dictation), they were very vague to him and he commented in his re-dictation to me about it. But everyone there has a problem with him, so far I have flown under the radar and intend to keep it that way when it comes to this doc...he is definately hostile and negative.
What does Meditech Direct Type mean

Hi -

At the risk of sounding like a dolt  ... could someone please tell me what Meditech Direct Type is?  I have spent years typing hospital reports into various Meditech programs through a VPN.  Is this considered direct type?

Thanks.

Question about direct deposit
I have direct deposit with my company.  We get paid the 15th and 30th.  Today is the 21st and I still don't have a deposit.  I thought the money goes in quicker with direct deposit.  Before I complain, just wondered if this was normal.
Since it was in direct response to my post...
Why do you care?  Grow up.
Direct versus Dish.
I actually prefer Direct TV over Dish. My sister-in-law had dish and there was no rhyme or reason to the program guide. I don't have favorites set up, so I can't really help there. I also don't listen to the music channels but I have a house stereo. Anyway, I have had no problems with getting my remote to work. I can actually sit in my recliner, which puts me at an angle to the receiver, and I can easily change channels without having to move. I also don't have trouble finding anything on the guide. I have the premium plus, HBO, Cinemax, Starz, and my local channels.
We have had both and prefer Direct. The thing

with the remote is because of the type of receiver you have.  We have one like that and it is a cheaper one.  You can get a better one and the remote will work from anywhere in the room.   I'm not much of a TV watcher, but we can select at least 3 different groups of channels.   We have many music channels and there is just about every type of music.  It might depend on the package.  I think we have Total Choice and the only extra we get is local channels, which we pay $5/mo extra for.

I wouldn't think the programming would vary per area for the same levels, but maybe it does.

It has been so long ago since we have Dish, but we changed because the programming wasn't very extensive and the program guide wasn't user friendly.

DH got mine at Tiger Direct. (sm)
That way he could get one without Vista installed on it. He got a Systemax Venture with Windows XP Home Edition. It was only $299 and is nice and fast. He's quite the shopper.
Are these direct clients or for an MTSO?
I have direct clients plus do some work on the side for an MTSO on a prn basis. With my direct client, I had to work a lot of hours to meet a 24-hour TAT. They were adding on more patient days and the workload kept getting bigger and bigger. I had to finally sit down with the doctors (there are 3 of them in the practice) and say, look, there's more and more work and it's a lot for one person to keep up with. I asked them to prioritize for me and tell me what is MOST important. Now what I do is immediately work on the top priority work. I do that in 24 hrs, and they extended the rest to 48 hours. There are even a few reports that they said they could wait up to a week for since they don't need them back right away. I've never needed the week, but it's nice to have that cushion. If these are direct clients, you might talk to them and see if you can work out something like that, too. For example, any new patients or patients that would be having a procedure/test at the hospital need to be back in 24 hours, but the f/u visits can be 48 hours. Many days, you will probably be able to do all in the 24 hours, but if you know they're okay with some going to 48 hours, it will take a LOT of pressure off your shoulders.

That's just a suggestion, of course. It might just be that you need a better Expander program or some kind of productivity tips, but without knowing what you are already doing, it's kinda hard to tell. Are you utilizing expanders, macros, etc.? Creating normals for each doc? Also, if you haven't been doing their work for very long, your speed increases over time and that will help. Some people say it helps to set a timer and have a goal of XX amount of lines for that time period.

Maybe you can keep a log, kinda like a timesheet, and mark down what you are doing every so often so you can see what's taking the most time. Then you could start your day with the more difficult work and end the day with the easiest. That's what helps me the most. By starting the worst dictation first, I know if I have to spend a little extra time on it, I can. I try to gauge how long each batch should take and stick to that time limit.

I think that's one of the bigger challenges at-home MTs face, actually, and I'm sure others will have even better tips for you than I do! We all face it at some point, though. ;)
