Except, you are in the minority. It's RARE when MTSOs actually pay extra for CMTs.

It's a rare place that pays extra for CMT. 8-8.5 cpl is the average for anyone right
s
I'm expensive, .15 & .17 for my accounts, no extra for stats which are rare. Bay area CA. nm
nm
Can they do surgery extra fast? What do they do with the extra glove in the pack?
;+
And they are doing QA. They are all CMTs.
aaa
Then CMTs who passed more than a couple
years ago should have to retest, because it has only currently become so ridiculously hard that nobody passes it.  Can you say money?  Rake in hundreds of dollars per test, over and over, and you're getting rich.
Do CMTs make more money?

I have perceived this as a scam by the AAMT.  Am I wrong?

Until they make the grandfathered CMTs take SOME test sm
the *credential* will mean nothing in my opinion. I know an awful lot of really bad MTs with three initials after their name.
There are companies that give pay raises to CMTs.

All of the current CMTs are listed on their website.
And they post it very quickly, mine was there within a week of taking the test. She will get busted very quickly.
Yup ... smaller MTSOs, local MTSOs (sm)

local doctor's offices or clinics!  Don't get discouraged!!  :)

Extra shift or extra work
Has anyone taken on an extra job or shift with a new company for a just a few months to get out of debt or to be able to pay for something that is needed or wanted?  I am thinking about taking on another job to get out of a stressful debt situation.   I am just afraid I would be going into another stressful situation working more hours with the very busy family schedule I have.
LOL - You and I are in the minority here! NM
x
I think I may be in the minority on this, but I consider myself SM

a professional. I would no more mention to a soul that I knew a patient there than I would tell about a boil on a neighbor's bottom if I were the doctor.

I'm in the minority
but I like Elliott. I think he has shown more growth than any of the others. He has a great voice. His personality and confidence is building more each week.

But realistically I don't think he has the numbers to win and so I would say Taylor because I really don't care for "Kat" at all. I think they are all great, and when I say all I include CHRIS in that because he is FANTASTIC!!!
Am I in the minority here?
I've got a bachelors degree in criminal justice and associate degrees in paralegal and fashion merchandising. Have done all those jobs/careers and WANTED to become an MT and, yes, I am a work-at-home mom of a young child. I'm just gonna ride this train as long as I can. I guess I just don't feel scared about the future of MT as I have some things to fall back on.
Just know you are in the minority, so
consider yourself lucky. Most MTSOs don't care if you are CMT or not
Thanks! You are in the minority sm
as to your opinion. I caught a lot of flack for that post but I have been wanting to say that for years! I made up my mind years ago to be the best I could be at this and haven't had any problems so far, low money or high money. We can thank the MT schools for this mindset of making lots money versus patient care! Oh its too early to get started today!
I Guess I'm the Minority Here

I don't care for them.  I was "trained" (I say that term loosely) on them and typed straight OPs for 8 months.  To me, they were boring.  I could type up a C-section or arthroscopy in my sleep now.  I agree that the hardest part is getting the instruments down.

I'm doing ER reports now for a large hospital in a large city, and they are interesting.

I might have liked OPs better if I had started with a different, better company, but I like what I do now.

Good luck with whatever comes your way!

I'm sure I'll be in the minority here. sm
When we were sent home from the hospital 12 years ago, my son was 4. We were told at that time we had to have set hours and if we had young children, they should be in daycare. My son is an only child, and we are older parents, so he actually benefited a great deal from the socialization. He is a sophomore in high school, and after watching other "onlies" around him, I'm very grateful for the choice I made.

I'm sure it is different for others, but the bottom line is, if you are really dedicated to having a career, you need the space to yourself, to concentrate, especially if you're just learning. You will always be there if she is sick or hurt. Daycare is expensive and good ones are hard to find, but the experience can be invaluable to children.

I salute people who manage to be high producers with children in the house, but I'm not one of them. JMO.
Poor hardworking mostly minority?
You are so wrong.    He may not have grasped the vastness of the situation, but I don't think anybody else did either.   I think they do now.   I wondered when people would get around to blaming the response on race.  You're a little slow.
We're in the minority but glad
to see I'm not alone :)...
minority usually has the loudest voice

Glad somebody agrees. I like to think we are part of the more quiet majority.

You're in the majority, not the minority. There's
not much difference, which is why VR is a ripoff. I won't do VR unless they decide to make the pay fair for it.
do you know how rare 9.3 cpl is?
I'm all for being honest so here it is: The cost of living has continued to rise while our pay has continued to drop.

Many of us are single moms or have husbands who are laid off making us the sole breadwinner right now. No, we don't have the inherent extra expenses that go along with working outside the home, but we DO have rent/mortgages, utilities, insurance, taxes, and school expenses to pay for and food to buy.

We don't have the luxury of working part-time...we have to scrape and claw and fight for every possible line we can get every single day just to survive. Many of us are fighting a war that you'll never see covered on the nightly news.

If we don't keep speaking out about this -- who will? We HAVE to stand up for ourselves because no one else is going to!

There's your honesty. If you're not personally in this situation, then count your blessings.

Not rare
I had an account where a company of dictators (not doctors, but PACs I think) was hired specifically to do dictations of discharge summaries.  There was a lot of shuffling of papers, but some of them did quite well, considering they probably never met the patient, and I was happy that clear-speaking people were hired to do the dictations of a few very heavy ESL MDs.  I don't know how accurate the dictation was, but it sure made my job a lot easier.  I have to admit that I wouldn't want my own reports as a patient dictated by an outside person, though.
You're in the minority pay-wise, but hey, as long
as you're making your money, screw everyone else.
$35 an hour! lol That is so rare for MTs now.
Maybe 5 years ago. Not anymore. I do both and make more with QA :)
It is so rare that I have no work that I use
that time to do things I don't normally have time to do, like clean and organize my house, get to some of those craft projects I've been wanting to do.   If you have been that long without work it is time to start looking.
That's awesome and very rare, I'm sure!

Let's get real. You're one of the SLIM minority who was lucky enough
to land a job that pays you extra for the CMT. 90% or more of services DON'T give a hoot about the CMT and they're not going to give a hoot about the RMT either!
listen - it's a RARE MT who could do 4000 LPD..

can also use your cell phone but it's rare
If you have bluetooth technology on your cell phone, you can get a cheap bluetooth plug-in for your laptop and use the cell phone as sort of a modem. Good luck trying to do it, though :*( I have Verizon and have everything I need but they have some double-knot top secret spy access phone number that they don't give out. If you can somehow get that number, you can connect anywhere you can get phone service. (and if you can get it, PUHLEEEEASE let me know it! LOL) I think that most, if not all, of the major cell phone providers have this same capability.
Barring that, you can get a card from your laptop maker (i.e., Dell).
Here's a link to Sprint's mobile broadband card. Through 6/17/07, they have a promotion going and the card itself is free after a $49.99 mail-in rebate. You have to sign up for their service, which is $59.99/month if you have their voice service (i.e., you have a Sprint cell phone and calling service) or $79.99/month if you don't.

Verizon has several mobile broadband cards (you want one that is 'Rev A' compatible/capable). Here's a link to a page with all of them and their prices ($9.99-$179.99) which are 2-year contract prices.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneOverviewByDevice&deviceType=Wireless%20PC%20Cards
They have 2 plans: National Access $59.99/month & Broadband Access $79.99/month.

Hope this all helps!

It is rare, but not extinct to receive a

reply regarding how you fared on your test.  For those of you who are presently going through this situation, I would suggest going back and reading the email you sent requesting the information.  Often times online, the inflections in our words are misconstrued.  You may be wasting time imaging the worst.

Second solution; just forward a copy of your original email to them; it only takes 10 seconds.

It is so rare that people sell their used

IT software, and when I've seen it up for sale, the person selling usually wants $150 or even more for it.

I purchased mine new from Textware Solutions.  It just wasn't worth it to me to wait for someone to put one up for sale and you have to count on them to get the license transfer done, I think.  With the extra production I'm able to do with it, I figure the software paid for itself in a month.

It would be very rare to be paid by the hour
while working at home. Too many variables and too many people would take advantage
It's rare to have ops offered out here, anymore. The keep them in house more and more. nm
s
They aren't that rare. I've worked with SM
bunches of them.  Unfortunately, my experience with them boils down to this:  The men who do this usually are the men who can't get along in a work environment with a lot of other men.
Hourly QA seems to range $13-18/hr. with rare few making

If you work for a smaller MTSO, it is rare that
they offshore. I work for a small one FT and another one as an IC, and there has never been talk of them offshoring. A lot of the smaller MTSOs don't.
Well, you're a rare one... mostly I get newbies demanding I hire them...sm
for a variety of reasons- because I really-really-really want this job, because I have to work at home to take care of my kids/mother/handicapped sister/old dog, because how can I get experience if you DON'T hire me, etc. etc. Most can't pass a grammar test to show they can use effect/affect effectively, and some even reply with emails riddled with typos and sloppy work. So good for you, but you're about one in a million...sad to say
Some rare purchases of this made on eBay for around $40, but doubt

Probably something to do with carpal tunnel - The rare times mine acts up - sm
my thumbs get weird and trembly (?). I suspect that is your problem. Try changing your keyboard position, if you have it raised, make it flat, and visa versa. On my backup computer I have to have the keyboard raised but on my everyday PC I have it flat, and my CTS does not bother me now that I have my keyboards situated well for me.
MTSOs
You are not wrong but in my opinion, you are giving them too much credit. The reason why they don't do what you ask is because most of them are not concerned with making your life easier; rather, they are more concerned with figuring out more ways to cheat you and to make your life more difficult. Then when you get disgusted and quit, they will just get somebody else in a very short time to replace you because you are very expendable. And it goes on and on in the same vicious cycle.
MTSOs
You know, there has to be a market between the dastardly corporate MTSOs and small transcription companies. It seems to me that if a talented, aggressive MT with a good business sense could find a way to create a "team" approach to the transcription business, perhaps one could find that niche and sell "team transcription" to good accounts that the MTSOs screw up and have cheated. After all, you have to believe that with the scandals in the transcription corporations - over billing, sending work over seas without informing the client, a lot of trust is lost by some of these unsatisfied accounts. I say, find a way to market to those clients in a "team group" and find the right price, somewhere a little lower than the MTSO charges and go after those accounts aggressively in a group. There is a market there you know.
more than most other MTSOs pay.
it is not kosher to share on public forums what a company pays.
I would not think many MTSOs would want to
x
No, it's not just the MTSOs (sm)

The actual doctors don't want to pay more than minimum wage for transcription either.  As an independent, I've had doctors balk at 12 cpl (which is BELOW what the MTSOs are getting, believe me) and I've lost business because I wouldn't take $6 an hour or what equated to 7 cents a line.

So where am I at?  Making peanuts working for MTSOs who are getting 15+ cents per line as a middleman for these same kinds of physician while I'm making a paltry 7-8 cpl.  It's a no-win situation.

Help for new MTSOs? sm
I have questions about proposals, equipment, and what to charge in order to get started. Are there any web sites out there to help me in this? I have books that I have read, but they go over the basics of start-up MT services.

You should run this by the MTSOs and
see what they think.
This is why the MTSOs have gone so low
single mom, does not want to work away from home. I bet they love reading postings like yours. They have women where they want them, just lower the rates because these people are saying they cannot leave the house.
extra help
maybe I should look into being a subcontractor.  Do you find this on the job seeker's board from time to time?   Thanks!
