$35 an hour! lol That is so rare for MTs now.
Maybe 5 years ago. Not anymore. I do both and make more with QA :)
For QA consulting I'm paid per hour; QA instructing (college) paid salary, QA editing paid per li
I am an IC and work for two different MTSOs as well as instruct at a business college.
If you are paid by the hour--
I wouldn't mind jumping from one account to the other either if I were being paid BY THE HOUR-- but when you are on production only and you have to sit and read a zillion different client profiles, do this for this doc, but don't do that for that doc, etc., and are only allowed to work in an 8 hour time frame, it does not make for great production. If they want us to do that many accounts, we should be paid hourly, not by production alone.
I get paid by the hour, THANK GOD!
I had no idea it was 3 cpl or in the proximity out there.  That's just awful.  They want professional, perfect reports by transcriptionists who make no mistakes and type like the wind.  Yet they don't pay for that.  It's sick.  Thanks for opening my eyes.
getting paid by the hour
I have not been paid by the hour in 6 years since I worked in a hospital.  What is the going rate?  I will be doing clinic notes for a small family practice office in Tennessee, probably about 2 hours a day after the backlog is caught up.  They are going to see if they can offer me health insurance which they will pay for but I have to wait to know for sure until they talk to their insurance agent.  I was just curious what others were charging.  Thanks.
Because I am not paid by the hour;
I am paid by the line. And the faster I go, the more I get per hour. Others working at the same line rate may make more or less per hour depending on their speed.
I get paid by the hour
I'm working at a local nephrology clinic, unfortunately not for very long because of EMR, but that's another story. I'm am employee and work from home, but get paid by the hour. I liked that set up because when there's little or no work I still get paid for my full 7-1/2 hours a day.
I agree with you. I would never want to be paid by the hour.
I would be looking at a major paycut I believe. I average $28-$30/hr now and am paid by the line.
Are there any MTs left that get paid by the hour?
Just wondering.  As an IC, I was trying to figure what I made per hour after having to pay my share and employer's share of SS.  If there is anyone out there that still gets paid per hour, I would like to know what area you are from and how much.  Thanks.
Do you get paid by the hour or production?
`
WhenI was paid by the hour, I kept them LONG ......sm
but now that I am paid by the line, they are short!   Bucks before beauty, I guess.
Does anyone know if Indian MTs are paid by the line or by the hour? sm
That's something I have been curious about.  I know the MTSOs charge by the line, but was wondering how they pay the MTs.  I recall various articles about all the benefits they had, free medical, etc., even food.
reAre there any MTs left that get paid by the hour?
Mid-South (Tennessee) hospital employee, $23.00
Are you paid by the line, word, hour?

My former job paid by the hour. Higher producers with
lkj
how does one measure lines. i get paid by the hour so i have no need to do that.
just wondering
You would need to go back in-house to be paid by the hour.

If you're paid by the hour, and not by the line, YES.
.
If you are paid by the line and make over $25 an hour, then I hate to say it

but I am wondering if you are doing full QA.  By the line is NOT fair pay for QA.  I know I mentor new MTs on a very difficult account and there is no way you could earn a decent wage on any amount of line pay, no way!

Don't go telling someone they could do better if they are paid by the line.  Quality specialists MUST have ethics in their work.  You can do a decent amount of reports a day and give feedback and mentoring, but you certainly would not be earning $25 an hour on line pay that I have seen....just no way!  The most I have seen QA paid is 7 cents a line and still those women do not average that amount.

Now, I don't know what you do or if you listen 100%, but most QA positions I have had have had megablanks, 100% listen as well as 100% feedback and you just cannot produce that much doing your job in a proper manner.

I usually average $25/hour paid by line so most places...

I'm paid by the hour, but by page or line are both common.
I work on-site, which is why I'm hourly. I also think working on-site with the actual paperwork in front of you makes for the best quality. Otherwise there would be sooooo many tech errors or dictator mis-speaks that I wouldn't be able to research from home that it would drive me crazy. But lots of MTs do it, of course.
Yes, I leave cable news on low, but since I get paid by the hour plus incentive,
x
One in Jonesboro, Arkansas, does. Paid by the hour with incentive based
They want minimum of 120 minutes/8 hours. After that is when you start earning that incentive.

could be short reports and getting paid for headers/footers in a 10-hour day.
nm
I do radiology now, paid by the hour, work from home, can it get any easier than that?

Yes at PHNS-- this was a few years ago....was paid initially on how many lines you averaged an hour
the highest you could get was .085 which is what I averaged, however they restructured and it plummetted to .07.....you could get .085 again but you had to really work your butt off (something like +1500 a day).  I was PT so I was only doing 500 lines or so a day, at most 1000, so it basically sucked after that.  Plus the company totally changed, they started to outsource to the Phillappines, work dried up big time and we fought over the lousy crumbs.  Many of us left and moved onto to better things though!
do you know how rare 9.3 cpl is?
I'm all for being honest so here it is: The cost of living has continued to rise while our pay has continued to drop.

Many of us are single moms or have husbands who are laid off making us the sole breadwinner right now. No, we don't have the inherent extra expenses that go along with working outside the home, but we DO have rent/mortgages, utilities, insurance, taxes, and school expenses to pay for and food to buy.

We don't have the luxury of working part-time...we have to scrape and claw and fight for every possible line we can get every single day just to survive. Many of us are fighting a war that you'll never see covered on the nightly news.

If we don't keep speaking out about this -- who will? We HAVE to stand up for ourselves because no one else is going to!

There's your honesty. If you're not personally in this situation, then count your blessings.

Not rare
I had an account where a company of dictators (not doctors, but PACs I think) was hired specifically to do dictations of discharge summaries.  There was a lot of shuffling of papers, but some of them did quite well, considering they probably never met the patient, and I was happy that clear-speaking people were hired to do the dictations of a few very heavy ESL MDs.  I don't know how accurate the dictation was, but it sure made my job a lot easier.  I have to admit that I wouldn't want my own reports as a patient dictated by an outside person, though.
It is so rare that I have no work that I use
that time to do things I don't normally have time to do, like clean and organize my house, get to some of those craft projects I've been wanting to do.   If you have been that long without work it is time to start looking.
That's awesome and very rare, I'm sure!

listen - it's a RARE MT who could do 4000 LPD..

can also use your cell phone but it's rare
If you have bluetooth technology on your cell phone, you can get a cheap bluetooth plug-in for your laptop and use the cell phone as sort of a modem. Good luck trying to do it, though :*( I have Verizon and have everything I need but they have some double-knot top secret spy access phone number that they don't give out. If you can somehow get that number, you can connect anywhere you can get phone service. (and if you can get it, PUHLEEEEASE let me know it! LOL) I think that most, if not all, of the major cell phone providers have this same capability.
Barring that, you can get a card from your laptop maker (i.e., Dell).
Here's a link to Sprint's mobile broadband card. Through 6/17/07, they have a promotion going and the card itself is free after a $49.99 mail-in rebate. You have to sign up for their service, which is $59.99/month if you have their voice service (i.e., you have a Sprint cell phone and calling service) or $79.99/month if you don't.

Verizon has several mobile broadband cards (you want one that is 'Rev A' compatible/capable). Here's a link to a page with all of them and their prices ($9.99-$179.99) which are 2-year contract prices.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneOverviewByDevice&deviceType=Wireless%20PC%20Cards
They have 2 plans: National Access $59.99/month & Broadband Access $79.99/month.

Hope this all helps!

It is rare, but not extinct to receive a

reply regarding how you fared on your test.  For those of you who are presently going through this situation, I would suggest going back and reading the email you sent requesting the information.  Often times online, the inflections in our words are misconstrued.  You may be wasting time imaging the worst.

Second solution; just forward a copy of your original email to them; it only takes 10 seconds.

It is so rare that people sell their used

IT software, and when I've seen it up for sale, the person selling usually wants $150 or even more for it.

I purchased mine new from Textware Solutions.  It just wasn't worth it to me to wait for someone to put one up for sale and you have to count on them to get the license transfer done, I think.  With the extra production I'm able to do with it, I figure the software paid for itself in a month.

It's rare to have ops offered out here, anymore. The keep them in house more and more. nm
s
They aren't that rare. I've worked with SM
bunches of them.  Unfortunately, my experience with them boils down to this:  The men who do this usually are the men who can't get along in a work environment with a lot of other men.
Hourly QA seems to range $13-18/hr. with rare few making
s
If you work for a smaller MTSO, it is rare that
they offshore. I work for a small one FT and another one as an IC, and there has never been talk of them offshoring. A lot of the smaller MTSOs don't.
Well, you're a rare one... mostly I get newbies demanding I hire them...sm
for a variety of reasons- because I really-really-really want this job, because I have to work at home to take care of my kids/mother/handicapped sister/old dog, because how can I get experience if you DON'T hire me, etc. etc. Most can't pass a grammar test to show they can use effect/affect effectively, and some even reply with emails riddled with typos and sloppy work. So good for you, but you're about one in a million...sad to say
It's a rare place that pays extra for CMT. 8-8.5 cpl is the average for anyone right
s
Some rare purchases of this made on eBay for around $40, but doubt
s
Except, you are in the minority. It's RARE when MTSOs actually pay extra for CMTs.
l
Probably something to do with carpal tunnel - The rare times mine acts up - sm
my thumbs get weird and trembly (?). I suspect that is your problem. Try changing your keyboard position, if you have it raised, make it flat, and visa versa. On my backup computer I have to have the keyboard raised but on my everyday PC I have it flat, and my CTS does not bother me now that I have my keyboards situated well for me.
I'm expensive, .15 & .17 for my accounts, no extra for stats which are rare. Bay area CA. nm
nm
Depends on the pay and account. My lowest average is $15.52 an hour (roughly 182.6 lines an hour) w
;'
1850 lines per 8 hour shift. 15.00 hour - no real requirement
x
if it is feasable, split that 6-hour shift into two 3-hour shifts. sm
i work a split shift and find that i am much better able to stay focused and get more work done that way. also, being 3 months pregnant you have gone through the very tiring time of pregnancy and you should start seeing an energy perk before long.
I start an hour or 2 early and then take an hour or 2 for dinner -nm
x
At 200 lines a day for 6 cents, you are making $1.20 a day or 0.15 hour for an 8 hour day!!!--cm
Did you mean 2,000? Even then you would only be making $1.50 if you work 8 hours a day.
$32/hour? You said $36/hour on an earlier post. Either way would be great. n/m
xx

if mt paid 9, editor paid 4 or 5...how can company charge 14 and make it..sm

I know the going rate in our area is 14 cents per line.  As MTs most companies here pay us 8 or 9 cents a line.  Now add in the Editor rate at 4 or 5 per line..you are paying OUT more than you can charge a line.  How would companies stay in biz?

Unless all work is sent by the company overseas at pennies per line, this would not pay for a company.

just curious how this works out
