Have already contacted by state senator and received a response

Posted By: very important on 2006-01-13
In Reply to: How important is it to you ... - Medtrans

But of course, all it said was that he was glad to hear my point of view, blah, blah.....no indication of how he was going to vote when it comes up - but at least I let my feelings be known, in no uncertain terms.   We have to do SOMETHING, it's just hard to know what.

response from my senator
Thought I would share - still sick over this issue

Thank you for contacting me with your concerns regarding the use of foreign temporary workers and business personnel by U.S. firms, as well as the economic security of our nation as a whole. I appreciated hearing from you on these important issues.

As you may already be aware, the use of temporary foreign workers and business personnel by U.S. companies has gained a considerable amount of attention in the past decade. Foreign nationals admitted to the United States are known as non-immigrants and come to the U.S. on a variety of employment visas, including the predominantly used H-1B visa.

The economic prosperity of the 1990's fueled a drive to increase the levels of employment-based immigration. The nation enjoyed its longest economic expansion, and the unemployment rate had remained low. At that time, both the Congress and the Federal Reserve Board expressed concern that a scarcity of labor could curtail the pace of economic growth. A primary legislative response was to increase the supply of foreign temporary professional workers through fiscal 2003.

The recent economic downturn in the information technology sector may have diminished demand for H-1B workers in that sector and has raised serious questions by many individuals like you about the lay-offs of American workers by U.S.-based corporations in favor of H-1B's non-immigrants.

Proponents of the H-1B argue that increasing the levels in the admission of foreign workers is essential if the United States is to remain globally competitive and that employers should be free to hire the best people for the jobs. Opponents, on the other hand, argue that any further increases, temporary or permanent, are unnecessary as there is no compelling evidence of a labor shortage in these professional areas that cannot be met by newly graduating American students and by retraining the existing U.S. work force.

As you may know, the House passed H.R. 4818, the Omnibus Appropriations bill of 2004. This legislation provided funding for the majority of foreign and domestic federal programs for fiscal 2005. Unfortunately, this bill contained a provision that allowed the first 20,000 H-1B beneficiaries who have earned a master's degree or higher from a U.S. institution of higher education from being included in the annual H-1B visa cap of 65,000. This provision effectively extended the visa cap to 85,000.

While I support keeping an appropriate level of legal immigration, in my opinion, we must work in Washington to ensure that current American workers are not losing their jobs or being forced to survive on depressed wages because we are voluntarily importing far more foreign workers than we need through the use of nonimmigrant visas. During the 110th Congress, you can rest assured that I will keep your thoughts in mind and take action as appropriate to promote economic growth at home for the benefit of both current U.S. workers and future generations of Americans.

Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. Please feel free to contact me again on any issue that concerns you.

PS - just heard back from my state senator
So there!
Has anyone here ever received a response or job offer SM

from posting your resume in the resume bank at MTStars?  TIA!

What state are you in -- that you received the check already?

No check here, but does show up in ipay.

What does the attached letter say?

Be sure you ask your senator to vote....sm
to pass the Safe ID act which was presented to congress by  Senator Markey.  This particular bill would require anyone sending things like medical or banking records out of the US to obtain consent from the consumer/patient ahead of time as well as yearly afterwards.  Educate all of your friends, neighbors and family that  HIPAA does not cover  your medical records leaving the US and therefore when they receive medical services they should request in writing that their medical records remain exclusively in the US.
I watched this video and sent it to my US Senator and also

.

Not political but re Senator Kennedy's OP:

Wouldn't that have been a great one to transcribe?  Not because of who it is, but just due to the type of the surgery he had--open brain surgery with intermittent wakeful testing.  I've been an MT for about 27 years, majority in acute care (now clinic--boring), and I absolutely love doing OPs.  I really enjoy doing long, complicated, interesting operative reports like I'm sure this one was.

Gruesome?  Maybe , but well wishes to the senator in any case.

someone just e-mailed me "how to write a letter to your Senator" -
I responded to this e-mail and attached a sample for her (Sarah) to send to her Senator, but came back as not deliverable. Just speak from your heart when you write. Be respectful, "Dear Senator, thank you for representing our state" And then tell your story so to speak, how things are effecting you. That bringing IT jobs (not just MT, but anything that contains our private information, credit card processing, debt collection, etc.) would not only deter the rampant increase in identity and medical identity theft, but would bring American jobs back to America, American MONEY back to America to be spent in America! Good luck to all
I heard back from my senator today about outsourcing bill sm

He thanked me for my letter, said that as he understood it, this bill didn't cover anything of what I had mentioned.  However, he said he would be paying more attention to this bill when it comes before the full senate for a vote.  He said he was against outsourcing.  Below is my letter to him:

Dear Senator Barrasso:

I am writing to request that you support the above bill. I am a medical Transcriptionist in Wyoming. I moved here 2 years ago from Colorado, bringing my job and income with me. I make an above-average income, which I spend in my community, but my job is at risk because so much of this work is being outsourced, particularly to India. More importantly, the health and privacy of the American public is being put at risk by this practice. First, Indian transcriptionists do their job poorly and inefficiently. The gross errors jeopardize health care. Every error has the potential to injure or poison an American citizen, including many young children for whom accurate diagnoses and medication administration can be a life and death issue. To add insult to injury, Indian transcriptionists are NOT required to honor HIPAA. Once a physician's dictation leaves this country, it is no longer private.
I am a very hard working medical transcriptionist and I am still able to earn a decent living in this industry, but it is certainly not what it used to be. I am paid 9 cents for every 65 Keystrokes I type, whereas an Indian is paid 2 to 3 cents for the same work. This undercutting has hurt this industry and every woman (95% of us are female), many of whom are trying to support families on their own, has been dragged to the poverty line because our wages have not grown with the cost of living. I make 9 cents today and I made 9 cents in 1996, the year my career began.
Please protect the healthcare and privacy of Americans, and help to protect yet another industry from moving to overseas. Support and sign S.810/H.R. 1653.

Of course I contacted QA...SM

and asked specifically that I be e-mailed the completed document.  I will keep that for my proof as many suggested, but I'm 100% sure that I would have at least verified it with the office because it is a dangerous sound alike medication.  There really is no way this QA person would ever change her mind.  She is one who really thinks she knows it all.  I figured I'd be asking to be fired if I said anything more.  I constantly am biting my tongue and keeping quiet, but have kept copies of all communications regarding any issues that have come up.  Ultimately, it will be her fault and responsibility if a lawsuit ever happens or a patient is injured because of the wrong med.  It is just sad that she can't consider another point of view or at least ask verification.

Anyway, water under the bridge for now.  The documentation I have should be fine.

What to they tell you when you have contacted
them about this?
Corporate has been contacted. The more the better.
:
Yeah, I contacted them as soon as I
found out they needed homes for the pets and still have not been contacted, either. I was getting curious, too:)
Have you contacted Dr. Phil??
Seriously, I don't know what you can do about it. Probably absolutely nothing. You just need to be as supportive TO YOUR SON as you can be. You can let him know you don't agree with this but you love him anyway. Honestly, this will not last long. He may not even make it to the altar. As far as the girl....just tolerate her the best you can. I don't think she'll be in your life very long!! Good luck!
Evidently you can't read. We have contacted

employee problems to be public fodder.  They don't respond to questions.  They

don't return phone calls.  When they do give answers they are nonsensical, non-answers.

Go back and read.  See how many of us here are saying we have been in touch

with the mighty Frank et al.  And it is not your place to tell anybody to "file it or shut it".

Get out of "our" business if you are not affected.

Casey, ck your email, I have contacted you.

You DONT need to be contacted. Send it all!

Am glad you are okay, Michelle. Have you contacted your supervisor?
dd
My friend contacted this morning regarding radiology job and she
was asking me if I had done before- I had at a previous job when radiologist MT was out and had never done before. This person calling wanted experience but said paying up to 17$ an hour. That is a pretty good salary. I told my coworker I would ask on board how she could maybe take some courses or just where to go for help in radiology MTing. I am happy where I am with VR so not interested in myself but I know she is looking. Thanks.
Have you contacted the office manager, physician, etc.(?)

I have been in the same boat since being transferred to Amherst. I have contacted New Jersey and
spoken with one of THOSE WOMEN and have gotten very little response other than oh we will see what we can do and things continue to just go on the way they were. I think it will take a lot of people calling Human Resources and emailing those 2 women or getting transferred or quitting that will change things MAYBE. Are many people quitting up there in Amherst. I know since my office has been transferred they are quitting now.
You have to work in their Harrison office. I contacted them in August, but I live across the

The Dictaphone techs are usually great at problem solving. Have they been contacted?? nm
s
Doesn't matter If you haven't contacted former previous supervisor or not; go ahead
and put their contact info down (if you have it), for your reference. It's not necessary to contact your references prior to putting them down on an app--if you left them with a good impression, that should speak for itself and they will give a good reference if they are contacted.
Work for a company in a state that has no state income tax
I think there are 3 or 4 out there (Florida, Texas, and a few others.)  Then you really avoid the tax situation.
Name a state and put every company in that state under suspicion.

Tell what the first letter of the company is and every company with that initial will be suspect.  I would imagine that everyone who works for that company has received an inquiry from department of labor, so they would all be aware of it.

Why do we persist in setting up companies to be torn down when there is no reason for it.  If a company is suspect, then give the name of the company, don't give big hints that cover at least 5 companies, 4 of which may be the best companies to work for, but fall into the category of an alphabetical letter, etc.

Contact your local BBB in your state and in their state if different from yours.

Not mandatory, as you state it depends on your state - sm
or county. Where I am I do not need it; though if I was cutting grass or landscaping I would where I live, makes no sense to me as I am providing a service, but very happy I don't have to have one. We pay personal property tax here and I would have to list all my business related equipment and pay taxes on it every year I was in business. So until I am told otherwise by my county, I will not be getting a business license.
oopsie! 2nd response in. Just followed 1st response.

With regard to Jester's Touch. Ms. Jester contacted me via email
this morning to announce that she has "been told to cease any other communications" with MTStars.  As well, she has told a tissue of lies regarding the labor board denying Ms. Latta's case.  I have learned this morning that the case has NOT been denied and is still being processed.

I never received, and neither did my
We were all at the big M. I just resigned after almost a year, and did meet all of their criteria. However, their system isn't correct and even said that I was not going to be hired when my friend asked about her referral bonus. Mind you...I had already worked there for 6 months at this point. I keep getting "I will check on it" when I ask about my sign on bonus. I gave up and left.
I have received these before too. sm
I just deleted it and ignored it.
I received this because...

I received this because I had posted on this forum about increasing my production.  This particular person emailed me through this board with that response.    And no, I am not going to send my work overseas to them for those of you who are wondering.  lol

Things are different from state to state, but I think
you probably could, if you are actually "laid off."  You would have to get a letter from your surgeon regarding your temporary disability status and take to the unemployment office and to Medicaid....but you know how Medicaid works, 1.5 pennies over the income limit, you don't get it.  But, as I stated, laws differ from state to state, so you would have to inquire or go on their websites and see what they will approve and what they will not.
If not in your state, try filing in THEIR state. Then they

I have received the email too
I also have received an email and called them and they mentioned AAMT, which I do not belong to either.  I have never even posted on this board before, but do receive the posting through email.  I dont know where they received my email address and they did not know either.
Any other SS employees not received their..
paycheck? I am not looking to start anything, just wondering if I am the only one who hasn't gotten paid yet?
I received cookies
I received cookies from an MT company I know longer work for and of course nothing from the ones I do work for!!
How nice that he/she received it well. (nm)

I have received several things
I've had messages from companies wanting me to subcontract, individuals sending resumes, etc. Some have mentioned getting my e-mail address from this board. I just hit delete after maybe mumbling a few *#&(#*(! Yes, their writing skills are lacking. My severely dyslexic son can form a proper sentence and spell better than these people.
No - but I received a call from them.
Did you talk with Ann? I have a friend who worked with them for a while and she liked the company but had problems that prevented her from working very much. Do you know what account you will be working on?
I just received an email
from my company saying that due to the storm the work was very low, one clinic closed and the other one was basically out of work (at least for what I do which is outpatient)....
I have received a few letters
so far.  Keep those letters to The White House coming you guys!  I am so trying to get our voices heard so that our careers may be saved.  I am addressing outsourcing, offshoring, patient security, voice recognition and anything else that can come to mind concerning transcription.  I want to have a packet of letters to mail off because that will have a greater impact versus just sending one letter here and there.  Please join me!  Deadline for sending letters is 1/28/09.  Email me if you wanna join me:)
What did you click so that you received the
copy of the test? If you clcked the 'send' button and afterwards you received the completed copy of your test unedited) what's the problem, as your test was already gone. How could you have cheated if your test was already sent?

They immediately sent you a copy of your submitted test, unedited. for your files, as one cannot save testfiles.

I do not understand where your problem is?

Just wait for their response and I hope you get hired!
Have not received either imail or letter
regarding this subject. Would someone please summarize such email/letter in a post for us who have not received this info as of yet. TYIF
I received a letter from MQ CEO regarding the MT lawsuit
They have acknowledged the existance of lawsuit but in their CEO spin states only 3 (THREE) MTs are part of this action. I know I'm not part of the original 3 and I have joined the class action so either MQ CEO is blowing smoke or has his head up his A$$. Either way, it is typical of MQ CEO.
Has anyone ever received the referral bonus from MQ? sm
If so, how long did it take to get it and does it only apply if you are employee status?
...just went to the mailbox and have not received that letter as of yet. Thanks. nm.
nm.
I received the same information yesterday.
