Have some cheese with that whine... cheesy companies

I am so with you! It's these cheesy MTSOs! I just got my social security statement of my earnings since college and I was blown away... it was great for my self-esteem but pointed out exactly what has been going on. Last year and the year before I made less than working my way through college!!! It was down to 14-15K a year!! No joke. I look back to around 2000 and I was up to 50K a year plus benefits. That had been going on for some time. Even at 2005 I was doing okay, in the 40s. What happened? For a year I thought it was me, but no, my hospital outsourced and I went to a service. Found out they counted lines differently and I bounced from service to service the last 2 years. YIKES. I am now below the poverty level and a single mom. I should take these earnings statements to somebody.. I don't know who. But I am with you! There are only so many hours in the day and only so much work, etc. etc. At least you know there are those like you out there who have the same vent... but we have got to band together and somehow get paid again what we are worth! Good luck to you!

They are cheesy and not necessary
who gives them such authority but themselves?
Hey, this was my whine, not yours! LOL
I'm at one of those life decision, epiphany, goal setting places right now.  Can't decide whether to get out of MT, get a stupid job in another field, or follow my dream.
Yawn, same old whine....
"letting our kids and grandkids pay the bills."  People said that over the Reagan deficit in the 80s.  That didn't happen.  Money well spent, the Cold War is over, and we had one of the greatest economic growths we've ever seen.  And please, explain to me exactly how this war is over oil.  I've never had that explained to me.  Last time I filled up my car, it was 2.26/gal.  Where is all this "free oil" going?  I'm afraid that "war for oil" cry is as tired as the one about our grandkids paying the bills.  Words are cheap.
There are people who do nothing but whine, you for example
saying the work is boring. You are doing it yourself. I am saying what I see on these boards all the time, women unable to take care of a house and work also. I actually just got back from the show, travel a lot, go out to nice dinners. If you are truthful about what you read, then you are angry??? Where does that come from? It is just the fact a lot of MTs can hack it taking care of junior and working at the same time; therefore the constant what do I do about my line count, how to feed the baby and do the washing and work all at once. It is all over here. Just being truthful, stating facts as I see them on here.
Some people just like to whine to
others. Give these friends your advice by using the answering machine, etc...maybe they will get the hint and quit whining to you at least.
They whine when I send them a blank, and tell me
Among other things.
Exactly, they may not put out great quality but they also don't whine and complain sm

CONSTANTLY.  The next generation US MTs want everything handed out to them on a silver platter AND want the higher pay, too!  Here is what I have run into of late:

1. Hired, but only want maybe 10 or 15 minutes 3 days a week. Yeah, that's production baby!
2. Say they'll be online but then aren't and don't communicate with you.
3. Whine because a dictator isn't speaking perfect English and enunciating each word slowly and clearly.

The list goes on so, feel free to jump in and add your experiences...

Left over from wienie roast cheesy potato soup, french onion soup and squished sandwiches.
:}
Agree, it's called codependency or being an enabler. You allow it, whine about it,
about it. Poster is right, you put up a HUGE fuss and then backpeddled in a BIG way. Which is it?
Whine alert! 8 cents/line is killing me! :(

I have 17 years experience.  I'm an IC, was getting paid 10 and 11 cents a line for the last decade or so.  After that work basically dried up, I started looking for more work.  No work to be had at at 10 cents a line anymore, rarely find anything even at 9 cents.

Decided to take an 8 cents/line job.  Hey, I was gettin' hungry.  I swear....I type, type, type, type, seems like all day and all night and still not making the money I need to pay my bills and eat!

I know, I know, people justify 8 cents a line by saying hey if you can do 200 lph, that's $16 an hour.  Yeah, that's great for those who aren't used to making up to $30+ an hour for the past 8 to 10 years!  Man, I'm soooooooo tired of typing, so burned out, just very unhappy.

I can see now how some people are happy with MT and some people aren't, just depends on what you've been used to compared to what you get now.  Sad.

I really don't have any other skills to do anything else, and I'm dying here as far as finances, killing my hands and other body parts trying to make money at this 8 cents a line...maybe could've done it 15 years ago when I was younger but just not able to type like a demon day and night anymore.

Let it be known that this is the end of my vent. I have no idea what I'm going to do

There are too many MTSO that whine about making not enough money to pay you a livable wage.

I applaud you for being truthful and NOT GREEDY..

Swiss cheese report

Update on my swiss cheese report...
I just checked my feedback and there were 8 QA markers out of the 24 that even QA couldn't get.  Shouldn't that tell someone something?
Bacon, egg, and cheese on toasted bagel. DH cooked again.

Tomato soup and toasted cheese sandwich.
Nothing grilled, it gives me a bellyache,  just plain toast and cheese stuck together   My son will have his favorite, fried liver and onions, my daughter will have cinnamon oatmeal, husband will have half a grapefruit, oatmeal, 2 eggs, and toast.  I run a short order house in the morning, but at least everyone eats something good for them before they leave the house, so I don't mind at all.   And I won't be surprised if a few neighborhood kids stop in for my soup and sandwich or the oatmeal.  The only rule is that they have to put their own dishes in the dishwasher, not leave them for me to clean up.
I dunno know about cottage cheese since lasagna has that (or ricotta) already in it??

Let's see, just got through baking cheese straws, bran muffins,
fruit cake cookies and cheese/sausage balls and DH just came home with a big bag of almond M&Ms.   Probably have a Pepsi to go with it.  No veggies but I think we got all the other food groups - LOL.
cottage cheese and leftover alfredo noodles
with sauce.
I steam mine with Parm cheese in the leaves -
along with minced garlic.  Pound those babies down on the counter so the cheese falls to the bottom and every bite has cheese on the leaves.  Yummmmmmmmy-  I also put lots of garlic the water along with any other flavoring I want the heart to taste like.  I'm off to the store for chokes.....LOL

MT companies negotiate with the insurance companies until they get what they want

It is strictly up to the agreement between the employer and the insurance company.  Your new employer can tell you what the pre-existing clause is in your new policy.  Some require proof of insurance for the past 12 months.  It may say something like if a diagnosis has not been made NOR treatment received within the last __ months.  Not good when companies negotiate with a pre-existing clause in order to get a lower rate.  Better check with your HR with your new company before doing anything.  It really gets hairy !

Most companies do no use their only files (HIPAA). They use files provided by other companies, serv
If you can get through the test files, then the sound quality on the actual company files is better. And, the dictation is never as bad as the test files, plus you have QA to help with hard blanks.
But expensive gin and expensive cheese. I deserve it.

MT companies
Hi, there are many MT companies out there, and there are some that you should steer clear of. The one company who scammed me real good for 2 years was amatrans-am out of Valrico, FL. If you see an ad for them run in the other direction. Or just check the BBB. They have really scammed a whole lot of people unfortunately....but there are better ones. But just stay away from the ones that ask you to do like 1,000 lines a day. You won't be able to do it, or if you could you would be dragging yourself off to bed, only to have to get up early the next morning to begin it all over again.

After a couple of years, I am now working, but mind you, I am really a semi-newbie, and I only make 4 cpl. The money won't make you rich, but the experience can be very rewarding, and what you learn keeps your mind working. If you want any more info, feel free to e-mail me brooklyngirl1112@hotmail.com

Are all companies like SS?
I think I will stick to my day job god....
Why is it okay for other companies
to be informed about and not this one. My heart bleeds for these MTs. Obviously, it is not just one employee posting here. Can you imagine the frustration of watching your fingers move more and more and your paycheck go down without being told or informed why. They have a right to vent and warn. I want to be warned ahead of time before I make a mistake. No slander involved, facts are facts and that is it.
What companies, if any,
. . . hire and actually promote professionals who have forgotten more than many MTs know, have years and years of experience, work when needed, don't rock the boat, and produce excellent work?  At my company, the editors and managers usually have just a few years of experience as an MT, if any, and many have no management experience.  Some managers have never even seen a typed document.  That doesn't make sense.  What companies give one a chance to actually grow with them?  Any of them?  How do the promotions go to those who took an on-line class and have been an MT for 2 years?  Kudos to anyone who could answer this . . . Bewildered
USA companies only for me.

What are some of the best small companies that you have worked for?  Does anyone live out in the sticks and is on dial-up?

MT COMPANIES

do u like working for this company.  Do they treat you fairly.  I was told to download and they will give me first files to fit me with proper account.  They have been great.  Does this continue?  Please let me know.  While on the subject does anyone have any information on Amphion, Medware, QTmedical, Orion and Transhealth.  Any information appreciated.

Does anyone have any information on smaller companies hiring at this time.

What it is with these companies?
I am now on my third job since deciding to work at home August 2005.  What is it with these companies?  Don't they realize that without us (transcriptionists)  they have no business????   I have been lied to, nit-picky QA'd to death, had money taken away from me, treated like crap, and received nasty emails.  Every time get familiar enough with account to start making some real $, guess what?  Get switched to another account.  I have always worked for hospitals, clinics, etc. 20+ years and never have I encountered such treatment.  It is just amazing, actually no, it is pathetic.  This third job is it.  If this does not work out, going back to the hospital.   I have a lot of admiration for those of you who tough it out and are still working for these amazingly unprofessional companies.  Maybe that is why there is so much outsourcing.  Workers in other countries will take their CRAP.
MT companies
Does anyone know of any Canadian medical transcribing companies that are looking to hire people to work from home??  Thx
