Vinyl floor coverings scratch, cut, and stain.  If you lay a throw rug down on a vinyl kitchen floor, the spot under the rug turns yellow and you can never get rid of that stain.  It lowers the resale value of your home, too.

Ceramic tile floors are cold, but very damage resistant and they increase the value of your investment.  They come many beautiful colors and patterns for any taste.  They are a little more expensive to install, however, don't need to be replaced every few years like vinyl.

Good luck with your remodeling project.  Whichever way you decide to go, best of luck with your new home!
