Unfortunately, these type of people still sleep well at night.
She could care less about someone else footing the bill for her child.
Thanks for the response. I just brought it to my supervisor's attention and...
He gave her a call and now she is helping me out.

I totally agree with you about doing extra work. If you are working on YOUR time, anything extra you do is a bonus. You are definitely within your rights to request what you want to work on.

Thanks for the response.:)
That's my problem... The first time it happened I flagged it and brought it to the attention (l

of my supervisor, who brought it to the attention of the doc.  She said that he got huffy and argued that there WAS such a word as "equivocable" and that he wanted me to type it.  This is not a mispronounced way of saying "equivocal".  I found that out when I flagged it the first time.  The doc actually thinks that is a word, and nobody is able to tell him otherwise, not even a dictionary entry!  That was when my boss asked me to note it on my log every time he did it so that we were covering ourselves.

Then the doc got annoyed that I was putting it on my log.  Because, after all, it was saying that the Great One was wrong! Horrors!  So then she asked me to take it off the log.  The problem with just typing in equivocal is that it is a verbatim account and this doc has it in his pea brain that "equivocable" is a word.  Secondly, there are times when he says his made-up word when the context would suggest "equivocal" and ALSO when the context would suggest "unequivocal".  I am not an MD, so I don't want to guess at which of these two very different meanings he intends based on the context, you know?

I think I am going to take the advice of the MT who suggested keeping a copy of my files, which I do, and keeping a copy of the email where my boss asked me to stop flagging "equivocable" on the log.

She brought a child in this world with 2 parents, not just a one night stand or something..
She left him because he became abusive and used to try to attack her with knives. It was in her and her daughter's best interest to raise her on her own. One of the reasons she did not seek child support because she was afraid of him. Living from experience, you can get restraining orders all you want. If someone wants to hurt you bad enough, they can usually succeed at doing it. She only went after him for child support after she lost her job. He would give her money here and there before, but she never knew how much or when. She didn't care though because she was able to take care of her daughter very comfortably on her own. She had the same job since high school, was a very valuable employee, worked in the fitness club business as a manager of a gym. She cannot find anyone will to pay her that. She was making that much money because she had been there since high school and she always met sales goals and got bonuses. She is not depending on the government to provide anything. Never has. All she wanted was insurance for her child until she gets on her feet. Do you know there are quite a few countries that have government insurance for everyone?

My sister-in-law left her boyfriend she was with after having her child because he was having a long term affair with another person. She has battled constantly for child support. He owns his own business and does not report all his earnings for tax reasons. She has only been able to collect off what he claims. He is 6+ months behind. She has filed grievances, everything. Meanwhile, he drives a brand new extended cab, he bought a house and he has a jet ski. What the hell good is it to go after the dad if the government is not going to consistently enforce its own court orders?

Yes, I wish I could get them to sleep at night, too.
I had one kid wide awake until after midnight, and another one woke up at 4:30 this morning with a bad dream.  This was after one of their friends pestered me every five seconds yesterday so I had to get up early this morning to finish my work.  It was, "Hey, watch me.  Hey, look at this.  Hey, look what I can do.  Hey, look what I built.  Hey, hey, hey."  Tap, tap, tap on the shoulder.  How 'bout, "Hey, go bug your own Mom because I'm working"?
Wow! Do you even get 3 hrs of sleep a night?!! Amazing! nm
s
I wonder how those shysters sleep at night. nm
?
Maybe you accidently bopped him one night in your sleep? :o>
... and now he's a little nervous.
If I wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep, I work a few hours sm
then I go back to sleep and when I wake up do more hours. A "regular day" no way.
People, please pay attention. This isn't just one person
that had a personalty conflict of whatever.  Everyday there is someone else with a valid issue.
Attention QA people - PLEASE READ :)
I'm fed up with the company I work for.  Can any of you who are HAPPY with your QA job tell me what company you work for?  I have been looking but it's hard to know which companies offer :1) Decent pay;  2) A relatively flexible schedule; and, very important 3) Appreciation!  I would like to find a smaller company as I work for a very LARGE national company (can you guess who? lol) - I'm sick of feeling ignored and invisible and would like to work for a smaller to medium sized company that actually values its employees.  Please, don't say you can't tell me who you work for - I really need some guidance here!  Thanks.
Star is a glutton for attention and told PEOPLE

That Tuesday that Star made her announcement....she had ALREADY gone to People Magazine PRIOR to the Tuesday show.......and spewed to them first - thereby sabotaging ABC's/Barbara Walter/Star Jones' already agreed upon announcement for that Thursday.

Star did this with the intention of *if I'm going down, I'm taking all of them down with me* and as a result, the View has lost viewership and probably will never come back as the once-good show it used to be.  Star definitely did this with an ulterior motive and then tried to act like the VICTIM.  Many saw right through this!  How is someone going to STAB their *mentor* in the back like she just did?

Remember Joan Rivers?  She did something similar to her *mentor* Johnny Carson and he never forgot it.!!!

Hopefully, Star Jones will become blackballed from Hollywood, albeit next week she is hosting at 10 pm House Hunters on HGTV.

I'm more annoyed to read that she is married to a Muslim *who hates Jews* - I did read that online in one of many articles.  And then to listen to Star push Xtianity on The View seemingly contradicts her line about *it's very important that both married people have the same beliefs and religion* - is that an open admission that Star is now a *Muslim who hates Jews*?  *curious* and not a religious discussion.  Merely a discussion on Star's credibility which, to me, is NIL at this point.

To finish...no one obviously feels like typing up, so the night people get the pool garbage. Grrrr.

If I work when the kids sleep, when will I sleep?

I understand what you are saying about the kids will always bug me no matter what.  I just thought that if I had a job where I didn't have to hear dictation and type word for word that maybe it might be easier to block out the kids.  There are no babysitters to watch the kids around here, besides that is why I work at in home in the first place.  The kids are 2 and 5 so hopefully it will get easier.

Thanks

I saw HOWIE last night on a late night episode of Blind Date. too funny.
I'm thinking if they are smart they'll boot Rachel.  I think she's really smart and a good player.  I don't think Howie is all that smart or able to be a winner.  I think this could force Howie to hook up with James to go for the final 2.
It's taco night! (again.....) We had taco pizza last night, southwestern chicken soup before th
Maybe I'll just have a salad.
Gee, sorry I brought this up. : (
I didn't think of it as asking for medical advice. I know we are not doctors. Just thought someone might have some suggestions as it may not even be a fracture; it could be just inflammation.  Just wondered what others may have done in similar situations that has helped.
what brought you to NC?
How long have you been in NC? Do you like it as much as Maine? What are the major differences?
What brought it up was
UPS came to my door and my little dog went crazy and she mentioned she had a kitten and then from there blurted it all out......
if you live among trashy people, low income people, people w/o goals or direction,
content to just get by, you by default become a part of a group. "people" have decided to group trailer people as trash. that is because there are enough people in that group to earn the title and even if you aren't trash, you are categorized by others. did i think i was trash in lower class neighborhood surrounded by people who drank and fought all weekend? no but i knew i wasn't staying and did not try to pretend that all the fools in the neighborhood were just nice folks who ended up where they were because high horse snobs deemed their neighborhood low class. people for the most part live exactly where they belong because they don't want to educate themselves, they don't mind "trash" around them and they don't want to be bothered trying just a bit hard to extract themselves from that world. they justify everything to themselves i guess saying everyone who doesn't like their lifestyle is a snob and the comedians (Jeff Foxworthy/Chris Rock, etc) who make fun of them are just ill-informed.

As for me, I fought hard to get out and don't even want to look back. It amazes me people stay for generations.
I am glad somebody brought this up...
I left Spheris  and took a job as a SE.  I am not sure how to handle saving for taxes at the end of the year.  Can you all give me some ideas as to what you do.  I have a terrible time saving money, LOL.
its not the point, its the way it is brought about
x
I also brought mine up with MM....

I'm so glad you brought this up....

I feel the exact same way.  As an IC, I do not feel I should commit to lines or a schedule.  In my opinion, finishing early, doesn't mean a thing.  As an IC, I have the option to refuse work at any given time.  If the MTSO does not like that, then find an employee.  I am tired also of finding that even IC status does not pay any better than the so-called employee jobs.  Yes, down time should be paid as an employee.  On another board, there is a job, IC status, 10,000 lines a week.  Cut me a break.  As an IC, you are supposed to be marketable to other accounts out there, not solely one account.  You should be spreading out so to speak, and if you commit to that many lines, then how do you market yourself to other clients.  Also, I find it rather odd when an IC status position is posted as full-time or part-time.  There is no such thing in an IC's world.  It is not that cut and dry.

I agree with you..... wholeheartedly......

You also brought up points sm
I had overlooked. Being willing to work Sat, Sun, holidays etc. I realize there are folks that dont' want this type of job, unfortunately, IT IS THE JOB! Medicine is 24/7 and so is this job.

If a person doesn't want this kind of life, then they need to get out of acute care at least. Work in an office, M-F making an hourly wage. But, to make it in this business, at home doing acute care for hospitals, you have to be willing to work outside of what most people call normal hours.

Another point to be thought about is if you are willing to do this, when these companies are approached fron clients about taking in new work, guess who will get called to do that work? You will because you are reliable and good and they are trying to "land" an account. It is very nice to help a company "land" an account. Most of the time, you will have your choice as to whether or not to do that account or not and that is more stability in your job.

There are so many variables you cannot put this profession in a box like any other. You essentially make your own paycheck! Its up to you. In this economy, people better be ready and willing to work outside the normal 40-hour a week, M-F box if they want to keep a job. That is just the way it IS!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO TRANSCRIPTION

I admit, I'm one of those women who got into transcripton because it was something I could do from home.  I was 20 years old, single with a baby, and looking for a job.  My mother mentioned going to school for Medical Transcription.  I had no clue what it was nor did she.  When I asked what it was, she said, "I don't know but I hear you can do it from home."  LOL, that's all I needed to hear.  Well, that baby will be 21 years old in a few months and I have to say, transcription has been good to us.  There are actually 3 of us now, no hubby though, just my 2 daughters and I. Just thought I would share my road to transcription.

So, what brought you to the world of transcription?

What brought me to transcription
A moment of insanity!!!!  That moment has turned into way too many years.  It seems that a lot of us fall into the same seat when it comes to reasons.  I was a single mom raising two sons, and it paid more money than the job I was doing in the insurance dept. of the HMO I was working at.  The chief of Nuclear Medicine asked me to come to work for him as his secretary/transcriptionist had quit.  I knew him from when I worked as a unit secretary at a small satellite hospital of the large HMO and he did overnight call.  By the time I bid on the job (it was a union setting) the transcription was well over 6 weeks behind.  My office was a patient's treatment room and the day I walked in there were nuclear medicine film jackets stacked half way to the ceiling on the entire patient exam table.  I had a strong medical terminology background but no transcription or Nuclear Medicine experience.  Luckily the prior Transcriptionist left her little black book with words and a folder full of sample reports.  At the end of the first day I was asking myself what the h#&& I had done taking this job.    From there I went into Radiology transcription, In and out patient QA, taught medical transcription, medical front office and computer applications for over 10 years.  Now I work as a consultant and do it all.  It paid my bills, paid for my house and bought my sons what all the other kids in our upper middle class, snooty neighborhood had.  It has been good to me, I just hate seeing where the field is going.

The father was brought in for report of him saying this and now he is
released. I guess the "report" of the "report" did not pan out enough to keep him in jail. The prosecutor is not at liberty to disclose anything and has said so repeatedly. No professional has ever quoted one of the suspects directly and you know that. A report of a report of this man having said this is all I heard from a reporter.
My son is also ADHD, but we brought him home

in third grade and he is now in 10th.  He is no longer medicated.  He was in therapy for 2 years because he was bullied, had horrendous teachers, and had low self-esteem because of various school issues.   He came home 3 days after starting K saying his teacher yelled at the kids.  I should have taken him out then, but didn't think I could do it.  I fought the system for so long and continue to fight it today as I help other parents advocate for their children, but at least now my son isn't caught in the middle.

Lots of parents bring their kids home for the high school years, at least for a year.  There is no law that says they can't go back for whatever reasons.  I know lots of parents who have homeschooled K-11th grade and then their kids want to go to high school for their senior year.   If your son is failing and miserable why send him to school.

This brought back some memories...
I was once approached in a Barnes & Noble AND a laudromat! LOL
No. Is it good? Have they brought their prices down?
Competition is a good thing to me. Wish we had more competition within our industry with companies fighting for good MTs.
Wow! you brought tears to my eyes sm
I was all ready to be blasted and your post actually brought tears to my eyes.  I know it isn't ME because the same ME was barely making $10 an hour average on the account I was assigned before I got the one I'm on now and have been on for the last 2 years.  I thank my higher power every day for my luck and will never forget that awful account I had before this one.
What if you brought on a combination MT/QA person, and - sm
you each transcribed, and then each checked the other's work? QA would go faster, more transcription could be done, and you'd sort of be killing 2 birds with one stone, while still being able to remain a small, high-quality service.
This brought tears to my eyes. sm
I loved this. I love animals and this shows how loving an animal can be.
yes, and those titles need to be brought down to just above 1st post. nm

Hey Crispy Critter......you brought sm
up a good point about docs compliments. We had one particular neurosurgeon the first place I worked at who was horrible to transcribe for. He said pretty much the same thing all the time so his samples helped. I came to work one day and had a note on my typewriter actually THANKING me for a report well done. No way do we get that anymore. There was a lot of satisfaction in this profession back then.
you brought up a good point. sm
Sometimes we would get compliments back then. I remember the first place I ever worked at. We had a neurosurgeon who was known to be horrible (and was). We kept samples in order to be able to do his dictation. I came in one day and there was a handwritten note on my typewriter from this doctor for a job well-done! I still have it all these years later. Today it seems like the "human factor" is gone from this profession and it has all become about production and money and the patients have been forgotten!
All that punctuation nit-pickiness was brought about by
They needed a reason to do it. (And to sell their anal little BOS). Get everyone so freaked-out about commas and semicolons that they either quit, or their production falls off and they can be 'justifiably' let go, forcing the 'poor MTSO' to have to look offshore for bodies to fill their sweatshops.

It's funny you brought this up as it made me remember
I probably wouldn't have a sewing machine to this day as I'd have never gone to the expense unless I used it A LOT. One day in the mail (years ago) I got a card that said I'd won either a sewing machine or luggage, my choice. Check the box and send the card back within 7 days. I thought YEAH, RIGHT! I certainly didn't hold my breath waiting for this free machine. I don't remember how long it took, but the sewing machine did come and it was not the top of the line either but really nice for a person not having one at all. I still use this sewing machine to this day, although I've noticed some of the buttons are coming off. I've only had it repaired twice in its lifetime (20+ years and counting). The brand is a Singer Merritt.
I loved it. Brought tears to my eyes nm

Yeah, brought in the dogs from the backyard - sm
they generally lay in the dirt under the deck or under the bay window in the dirt. But today they were in for most of the day, way too hot out there!
Thank you all for your support... it brought tears to my eyes.

Seriously, I really appreciate all your supportive advice and thoughts! I have decided after being treated like this and putting up with it for too long, to look for another job or maybe even another career.  I wish I could quit on them right on the spot without notice, but I have decided to show them what class or professionalism is, even in this bad situation. (Of course, if they do not pay me, then I will quit immediately.)  I can only hope they treat their next MT with some courtesy and respect which we all deserve.

Hugs to you all ~

I'm glad you brought this up. I've been meaning to

The article brought out a real nutjob!

Someone named 'Ronald' is posting the strangest comments.  Not sure if he has a white hooded robe in his closet, or not.  He seems to think that the civil rights movement has made it impossible to get good help in America and also that we have become illiterate and so are unable to hold such skilled jobs as MT.  A few more people need to go over there and slap him down, please?
