How do you play dictation in Vista?

Posted By: Expressscribe does not work on 2007-04-16

I have a new laptop with Vista and my Express Scribe is not working.  So is there another program to play dictations with a foot pedal in Vista?  OR how do I make Express Scribe work with Vista?

Thanks for any help

? how to play CD-R

ok, got a CD-R for Christmas with old family photos/video on it.  How do I play it?  I put it in my CD player and it said check disk.  I put it in my Computer and nothing happened.    I found media play and pressed play but still nothing.  What am I missing?  Thanks.

Alt+P = play, sm
Alt+P = play
Alt+O = onward
Alt+E = everything
Shift+F2 = Speed Bar

Hope this helps.
I don't think there is any way to play the CD--sm
like your digital voice player. you should be able to transfer the files off the CD to your computer and then change them to whatever your voice player will play, i.e. wav. dss, or whatever, but to play the CD like that, uh..no.
Or less play time.

If he had a brain, he'd take it out and play with it

Thanks! I'll play around with it! :) NM

What are you using to play the files? sm
There might be a setting to select the foot pedal and/or the type of files.
yes. they are used to play wav files on your --sm
digital wav player, so they can be called wav pedals too. Although some programs require a specific type of pedal because of the way they are wired. USB port is pretty universal and the simplest, but some programs like the serial port ones so it is wired as to left pedal, right pedal, fast forward, reverse, etc. but they are essentially the same thing.
Can you invite them over to play again? (nm)

nm

ok, done that, now how do I get it to play so I can take the test? nm

why 'work' when they pay you to play!!??
you have to make these hurtful things into humor somehow to cope. or explore why they don't consider this work -- the pay? that you sit down all day? but most of all, YOU know that its not only work, but work that very few can do at this level well. if you'd like to buddy-up and vent personally to me, feel free. Its too bad your extended family doesn't appreciate all that you do -- but i'm sure your immediate household does. Anyone working MT, taking care of spouse and children and home deserves applause -- my hat's off to you!!
This is where your skills really come into play.
It will drive you mad if you let it.  Sometimes even the doctor is unfamiliar with the med especially specialists.  I have found that on an occasional basis.
Play The Ball, Not The Man
I am respectfully handing this thread back to Dinosaur, when someone starts playing the man, not the ball, it's time to say cheers because it serves no purpose. Loo, you don't know the first thing about me nor did you bother to take the time to say one reasonable word - to those that did take a moment to at least respond meaningfully, thank you.

Continues to play
I have the start/stop USB pedal and it continues to play when I stop the foot pedal. Sometimes it just continues for a few seconds, and sometimes it just keeps playing and you have to push on it many, many times to get it to pause. GRRRR!

What company did you order your new one from? I may break down and buy another one. :(
Don't know if Play-All or ByteScribe do this, but that's

And two other issues come in to play.
It's the company's responsibility also to make sure the MTs have the tools they need to do the work, not pass along unreasonable expectations and demands to the MT with no help. I'm thinking things like facility punishing for not filling in demographics when said dems aren't available to the MT. IME it's the "st*pid clerical stuff" that often gets focused on. Stuff that could be fixed with a little footwork and planning.

Secondly, the supe should get over the emotional delivery and hysteria. The MT needs to know the facts; they don't need to know how upset you are about it. They don't need to be made to feel st*pid without being given the tools to solve the problem. Management needs to go into problem-solving mode, not blame mode.
DSS files won't play

I am totally new to the at home transcription profession.  I found someone to type for but when she sent me the file, .dss, it didn't play on Express Scribe.  Now, I have been on their forums and tried ALL of the suggestions and nothing worked.  Apparently it has something to do with the way the new version of ES interacts with XP or something.  So I found a DSS Player Lite at Olympus and it played the file, but ofcourse there wasn't any foot controls or speed, et cetera.  I was just wondering if there are possibly other, preferablly free or cheap, software programs that I can use to play these DSS files.  I have another person I will be transcribing for as well but I guess she uses a different file format so I am hoping that it will play with ES. I am just so frustrated and don't know what to do to get started making some money.  Can anybody help me??

Thanks!!

what software are U using to play
the wav file? You should just be able to save to your desktop and open your software and then in your software, go to where U saved the wav file and dbl click to open it. At that point, you can step on your foodpedal and it will play
I took it to be a play on words

bezoar.... hairball in the stomach.

bizarre...

and how about a bazaar?

But really, you just asked a simple question.

It should play .sri files. Have you tried doing this??? sm
Go into settings, then file types, and put a mark next to .sri files.

Give that a try and let me know if it works. HTH!
This is where the term "accident" comes into play - sm
I have looked it up for Dork Lady to save her some neuron-firing energy... she needs all the help she can get...
"ACCIDENT": An unexpected and undesirable event, especially one resulting in damage or harm: car accidents on icy roads.
An unforeseen incident.
Lack of intention.
Do you comprehend now Dork Lady? Reality - get a grip on it... save yourself, really...
Pushing them to play a sport is not always
"good for them". As a coach's wife I can see why you would say that but come on the world does not revolve around sports in most households!

I agree. It seems like all of them want to play catch up on one day
then they expect you to have ALL of their work done within TAT when they went beyond the agreed lines per day.
Yup, you're right. I was just trying to get her to play nice
Some people's feelings can truly be hurt by some of her comments, although I doubt that that has ever crossed her mind and probably wouldn't bother her at all. I can only imagine what type of employee she makes and how she reacts to QA!
NEVER EVER ... play doctor with those disorders

For starters, you don't take antianxiety medications whenever you "feel the need." If you want to do that, pop a tranquilizer. And you're playing Russian Roulette with your system by trying this medication and that.

Unless somebody here has MD after their name ... they're not qualified to tell you what medications should should be taking. You need to see somebody who is properly licensed to prescribe the right meds for YOUR body. Sometimes, it takes a while to find the right physician and/or be put on the correct medications.

Now, this is not said to offend anyone, but I do not believe that anyone besides a doctor should recommend medications.

My kids always played or still play outside sm

I refuse to have cable (garbage) TV and have since my 11-y-o was 2.

2 of my older kids are grown and gone. I still have the 11-y-o and her 15-y-o brother at home. All 4 are underweight or borderline. Not because they don't eat because boy do they ever.

My kids also have the "can't sit still" type of personalities where they have to be moving all the time.

What is really sad is that my 11-y-o is 87 pounds, which puts her in the just below normal range and she thinks she is "fat" because society is beginning to make anyone with an ounce of body fat look "overweight." It's sick.

My poor older son is 6 foot 3 and 135 lbs. He has tried everything to GAIN weight and he has never been able to gain so much as an ounce. Of course he gets teased on the "flip side" because he's so darn skinny.

It's time society stopped obsessing.

Wow, let's see, I remember when we could play outside without fear SM
and stayed outside and played from morning until night (we only came home for supper)...

When you could be a blue-collar worker and expect to make a living wage, and keep the same job all your adult life...

When going to the movies for 50 cents and sitting in the balcony was fun...

When you could say something without fear of offending someone and getting sued...

Ah, I remember...
Play "Sink the Cheerios"!

You don't need to buy targets or even go to the trouble to cut up paper. My son, now nine years old, used to LOVE playing "Sink the Cheerios"!  I would put a few in the bowl and he'd have target practice with them.

I would also put a squirt of dish liquid (like Palmolive) in the bowl, then when he went.... he made bubbles! Woo hoo!

We also put food coloring in the bowl, a different dot of color here and there, and then when he would go... the colors would mix.

My daughter? She's a whole different story. She's 3-1/2 right now and I can't remember the last time she peed in a Pullup. But she will get away from me and go hide and poop just MINUTES after getting her off the potty from sitting there for 20 minutes while we read book after book after book waiting for her to go.

We're strange, I guess. My son? Potty trained in two weeks. (Wasn't dry overnight until about 4-1/2, so don't even think about that, guys. That's not a potty training issue, that's a small bladder and deep sleeper issue that will pass by itself.)  My daughter?  Total challenge for whom bribes like toys and candy, nifty charts, fancy undies with her name embroidered on them, special books about potty training complete with flushing sound effects.... all have had absolutely zero effect.

I have no idea what to do now.  Any ideas for the really stubborn ones besides just waiting it out and doing a ton of laundry?

Turnabout is fair play ...
Yesterday I was transcribing radiology in the office as usual, and saw a handwritten referrer's name on the order. I asked the radiologist if I needed to send the report to that office, and did he mean Dr. So-and-so (because it wasn't spelled right). He said yes; he asked the doctor to spell his name, but he spelled it too fast. I said: "WHAT - A DOCTOR SPELLING TOO FAST??" I laughed and said that was one of the reasons we MTs suggested they not spell to us. He was like, "Grrrrr." Hehehehe!

can't play voice file
I was sent a voice file to transcribe (test) and I can play it but not at the same time that I am in MS Word.  What am I doing wrong?  TIA
Can I play files dictated in DVI on my PC?

I was recently approached by a local doctor and asked if I would like to type for them.  The doctor's office uses a DVI system but they did not know anything else including what equipment I would need to play the files.  I was wondering if I could purchase software that would alow me to dial into their DVI system with my computer instead of using a separate DVI machine.

Thanks,
Mariah

Pop in your favorite CD and play it loudly..LOL...

Games companies play

I live in a suburban area.  You would think there would be no problem getting any kind of Internet service.  Other parts of my town have DSL, but not the part south of a main road where I live.  The phone company is embroiled in a dispute with the state's commerce commission about how much they can charge.  The law says they have to let competitors use their lines, but they claim that can't charge the competitors enough to make it worth their while; therefore, they just won't add anymore DSL until they can charge what they want.  They advertise their DSL like crazy, though.  When you try to actually order it, however, it's not available in your area.  Lucky for me, the cable company put in high-speed Internet or I'd be out of a job.  Dial-up just wouldn't work anymore for Medquist's platform.

If a part of your town has service like mine does (just not your part), city hall should have someone who handles the franchise.  If so, try complaining to them.

Wireless does not play well with VPNs
in a lot of cases. That's probably the reason. It's been a problem for me, as well, and now I'm stuck hardwired in the family room of all places.

Turnabout is fair play
I think we should all do this to them the next time we go to the doctor's office - talk to them the way they dictate to us. Change our mind 3 times about what our symptoms are, when we are halfway through with our HPI, tell them to go back and add something to the first paragraph. Then, at the end, tell them to change everything you just said to another body system, make the left right, etc. Don't forget to mumble the first couple of sentences, be sure to sniffle or do something creative with your nasal fluid, ruffle some papers near his/her ears when he/she leans toward you, stop and chat with everyone who goes by the exam room door, and answer at least one call on your cell phone. If you have small children, bring 1 or 2 with you so they cry or play loudly at your feet while you give the MD your history.
Play nice so if do go to the next step U have

Reinstalled WAV Player, Now Won't Play DSS

Hi,

I have always been able to play DSS files using my WAV Pedal (WAVPedal 5). I just wiped my computer clean and renistalled all of my programs, including the WAV Pedal 5. Now it will not open and play DSS files.  Any help?  Thanks,

Dave

I guess I don't know how to play the game
When your employer cuts your pay (I'm an IC) to the tune of about $400 a month and tells you if you don't like it you can go elsewhere...and every place else pays even less.

-scratching head-

It's not ME undervaluing myself, it's the market and employers who get away with not paying a livable wage.
