Thanks for the info. Loved this line:
"In addition, reports transcribed by overseas medical transcription services usually require editing for accuracy by domestic medical transcriptionists before they meet U.S. quality standards."
Here's what I've used and loved it...
Abacus SE performs two functions. It is a counting software, but also creates accurate invoices.

The program is very user friendly and best of all, it has a trial version with no time limit.
Lots of good info Ace...Thanks. NM

am hoping to get a position as an IC, mainly for the freedom. The quote from the website says that in order to qualify as an IC with the IRS you have to abide by this rule, as well as several others:

"Don't let the hiring firm dictate your working hours, although the firm may give you a deadline for completing your work."

If you so a search on this board you'll find lots of info.

Basically, you've got it right. However, voice files can be large and email may reject large file attachments. Also, there's the security aspect that you didn't mention. Basically, the voice file and finished document need to be encrypted to be secure.

You said you don't have the time/didn't take the time to do the research. Lots of people have and have shared their findings time and again on this board. I, for one, am not willing to reinvent the wheel every time someone is looking for this information but doesn't want to take the time to do the legwork. No offense meant but please do take the time to educate yourself. If you really don't have the time or don't want to take that time, then be prepared to pay for that information in the form of a consultant.

Do an archive search on this board and you'll find lots of info. NM

I've had lots of experience with this...sm

as a foster parent.  Here's some suggestions for you:

  1. Don't negotiate a kid's negative behavior like that counselor recommended all of the time - make negotiating  a rarity instead of the actual standard rule.  YOU are the parent and in charge, not the child.  If you negotiate then they'll always think that life is a big negotiation pool.

  2. Be consistent.  Set up the house rules and consequences/rewards and even write them out for the child.  For example, set up a sticker chart and every day the child brushes his teeth without being told twice to do so he gets a sticker, and when he gets "x" stickers accumulated he gets a small prize.  In my house we have what is called a  grab bag, which contains items that I got at the dollar store.  The grab bag is  a dark laundry bag and the child cannot see in there - they have to reach in there and grab a prize out.  On the other hand - anytime the child misbehaves, i.e. does something to make the younger sibling cry on purpose, they lose a sticker.   Kids his age usually do well with having to obtain around 10 stickers to get rewarded.

  3. Talk with the teacher about what is going on and ask them to try techniques to help build his self-esteem.  Oftentimes they'll do things like this by asking your child if they'd like to be the team captain for a game.  A lot of schools have school counselors available for free, so if this is available ask the school counselor to also spend time with him.

  4. Socialize your child as much as possible with other kids.  Sports are great for this and allows them to burn off energy.  Playgrounds are superb as well.

  5. I also love the John Rosemond stuff - he's great on getting kids negative behaviors turned around.

  6. Most importantly make sure your child knows you love him.  Spend a few minutes each day snuggling/loving on him or at least trying to.  There will be days he'll be refractory to this but other days he'll appreciate it.

  7. Never speak negative about his biological father to him or when he can hear you.  Kids don't understand when they have a parent that is bad and things like this often cause them to misbehave more.  I've had kids come to me whose parents were horrible parents/people yet the child still loves them.

  8. Don't forget to take time out for yourself.  Enjoy that bubble bath!

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any further questions.  Good luck!

I've taken on lots of odd jobs, even nonMT ones, to pay debts.
I've waitressed for friends with bar/restaurants through the holidays, but not this year. I've been trying to find a weekend MT job or 2 hours per day, but no luck. I've sold stuff on Ebay, too. Do you have a significant other? How many hours are you working versus your SO? Being a Mom is a fulltime job, too.

Lately, I've been doing the ebay thing in the morning before everyone gets up, working my regular shift, then doing my extra job in the evenings and weekends. I definitely feel stressed. It's not enough money quickly enough. Everyone else is fighting for work, too. The house is not as clean as I'd like it. I have to run to the post office and box things up every day, and that's not great money either. The kids are acting up because they always do this time of year and they want more attention. It's all depressing.
I've been doing lots of dental notes. Not boring at all
when you think about the ease and money you can make cuz they always say the same things. I'd take it.
I've typed LOTS of reports on trampoline injuries

Some of them VERY severe, including head injuries when the person bounced off the trampoline and landed on his/her head.

ANYTHING can be dangerous if you aren't careful.  Way back in the disco era, I typed a report on a guy who had fractures of ALL FIVE metatarsals - from dancing!!

Someday my prince will come only works if you're a princess.
You cannot expect perfection in a partner until you, yourself, are perfect. That's not going to happen. I still believe my husband and I are fated to be together because of a bunch of weird stuff that has happened over the years.
Tried that, which is why I said I've been searching for info

Need info or true ULD companies. I've
not paid attention to past posts because I never thought I'd need it.  Have chance for a position, but need ULD  - like now.   I'm on the east coast.  I have DSL and my ISP is Earthlink.  They have something called truvoice where it looks like I can get true ULD, but because I have DSL I still have to maintain my land line.   Not sure if I could use DSL, phone, and tru voice all at the same time.
I've never had anyone want more info when saying I wanted or needed to leave. Just

Celebrity tell-all
Hey, what a concept. Another way to make money on the side for the MT who was asking.... JUST KIDDING!! What an imagination you have....should write a movie of the week.
How is she a celebrity anyway? Never heard of her before this.
?
How about Celebrity Fit Club??
Does anyone get into that?  I think this season will be good.  I'm Tempestt Bledsoe's age and I loved her in Cosby Show.  Go Vanessa!!  I'm also curious about Young MC.  That's good ole school stuff.  Tee hee.
Celebrity Fit Club
Just finished the show.  Really good.  I have to agree with the poster from earlier today that Tempestt did look wonderful.  She is radiant.  She and Chastity are motivating me.  I'm going to look into that SMASH diet they were talking about.  Who's with me?  No more cookies !!!  No more cookies !!!  Ugh, did I just type that "out loud" ??
Celebrity newscasters
... agree with you newsfreakMT - it's more about the spin and sensationalism today in journalism, than anything else. Difficult to get unbiased news.
Sexiest celebrity
George Bush? Gag me with a spoon.
Celebrity life
The subject of gastric bypass among the rich and famous is a taboo subject. Given that gastric bypass is a dangerous procedure, and that millions of adoring fans look up to these people, it becomes a very touchy subject. Many, many celebrities get gastric bypass, more than the public is aware of, because of the pressure and competition in that industry. The fact that many celebs get that surgery, and then promote to the public that they lost weight by diet and exercise, is a lot of pressure. Some celebs even get gastric bypass and then become spokespersons for weight loss programs such as Jenny Craig. This is an illusion to the public. The fact that Star Jones got gastric bypass and then tells the audience she lost weight by diet and pilates, I believe, causes the public to turn on her. Granted, it should be one's private choice and business, but when you are in the public eye, there is a price you pay for your fame. I believe many factors added to the demise of Star Jones popularity - her deception of her weight loss, her wedding, rumors about her husband's gay lifestyle, her dislike of animals, and the fact that she started a business with a line of fur coats once she got a name for herself. Yes, one does pay a price for fame. Your private life is almost not yours any more.
Maybe Surreal Life or Celebrity Fit Club? lol - nm

I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne

used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and  Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).

Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best.  In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander.  Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love.  My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything.  You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros.  I love it.  I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.

I LOVED IT. . . .
And had to forward it to all my "crabby" friends.
I loved my cat too and still do
I had to put my 18-plus year old cat to sleep 2 months ago.  She was with me since she was born.  She had end-stage renal failure and for a year I had to give her three times weekly infusions of Ringer's.  She was actually really healthy right up until the end though and used to boss the other 2 youngsters around.  I miss her every day.  She went with me back and forth across the country.  I know exactgly how you feel.
I did and loved it - sm

She came every other week and charged $15 and hour. She would spend 4 hours and she was a white tornado in those 4 hours let me tell you.  I loved, loved, loved having her.

Unfortunately, i had to let her go when i moved into rehabbers paradise. No sense in paying someone to fight a losing battle until rehabbing is over say in about 10 years :(

We did that too, my 2 loved it too! - nm

My mom loved them and had many of them -nm
throughout the years, so I grew up with them. They are nice, though I put my hair in a pony tail so I can see. Started out with an old Plymouth in the 60s and ended with a 2003 BMW Z4 (very nice). They only time it was a drag was in an unexpected rain storm, though now you just push a button and the top goes back on....until her corvette (1 car before the BMW) we had to do it manually, so stop the car, pull up the top, lock, etc. Also in the summer, very hot seats...carry towels so you don't scald off the skin on the back of your thighs, butt and back, though cloth seats would help with that problem, and obviously don't leave anything in the car you wouldn't mind losing (i.e. stolen or blown away). They are fun though, I hope to get one myself one day but content myself with driving with all the windows down now. Have fun shopping.
TFS! Loved it
I need that laugh!!
Loved pet...
I had to put down my Andi (poodle mix dog) today.  Last night I came home from church and found her on the door step apparently hurt.  Brought her to the vet who kept her over night.  I went in this morning but she had multiple fractures and had to be put to sleep.  I don't think I will get another pet.  It's too hard when you lose them.
yes, i saw and loved the

was wondering if the walking tour is only a group tour or is there a map and written directions so that one could walk the tour alone (or with a friend, etc.).

the MT info is good but i am much more interested in NY and seeing it from an *insider's* point of view.   i know that is not the purpose of the blog but maybe you could do something on that line regarding NY??

I used to do these too! Loved them! sm
They were long and kind of boring in my opinion, but I made a LOT of $$ and had a GREAT dictator.  he was so great, in fact, that he transitioned into doing his work by voice recognition without a hitch.  I truly miss that account . . . :(
Loved this. (nm)

Yes, loved it.....sm
Yes, I used it for several years and loved it. It does not have its own expander, but I used InstantText with it quite successfully. I hardly ever hear of it any more. Do you mind sharing what company still uses it?
Loved it
Who still uses this program????  It was great.  Does not have its own Expander but I used Instant Text and it worked great!!
Loved it.
Where did you find it? I am thinking to change mine.
LOVED the job!!!!
I worked for this company a while back & loved the job.  I say to anyone out there reading the same rubbish I did, use your own judgement about a person/job and don't let bitter faceless people influence you otherwise - and THEY talked about being rude?!!!  If I wasn't forced to give up the vet op work (family reasons), I would never have left!  New clinics kept opening every year, and the owner always did her best to keep me informed and made my job as easy as possible!  Some people prefer to work for large transcription companies, but I prefer to work for smaller companies, where you are recognized as being an indvidual that is an IMPORTANT member of the team.
Loved it!

I enjoyed reading this post.  I guess it was that punch line that really got to me LOL....

Your real-life doc kinda reminds me of Dr. House on TV, though Dr. House seems to have become more contrite during the last 10 minutes of the season finale.

I've always thought that there could not possibly be real life docs out there like House, at least not ones who would be allowed to see patients, but now I am not so sure.

Have you ever thought of a second career in which you take real-life experiences and fictionalize them, send the scripts to the people who make movies and TV shows?  I think you would be very good at that.
