I've tried typing with nails

Posted By: Robin on 2005-11-24
In Reply to: FINGERNAILS...sm - Bored today!

It slowed me down, too.  I felt like a cat with a piece of tape stuck on my finger .  And what a drag that is, because I really love the look of a new French manicure

I'm with you guys. Typing teacher used to make us keep nails short. nm

The stress of the job keeps me biting my nails. No nails here! nm

You know you've lost it when while typing...
you mess with their voices just to entertain yourself.  I like to make them sound like elves.    Anyone else?  I could use a good laugh.
YOUR age. I've been typing for 9 hours now,
.
I've been typing C-sections all day, and -s/m-

every time I get to the phrase, "the infant was then handed off to the waiting pediatricians", I get this mental picture that cracks me up:

I picture the surgeons with football padding and helmets.  The baby is extracted, they wipe it off, and then one team starts running.  They block and dodge and tackle, etc., all the while avoiding obstacles in the O.R., and then in the midst of all that, a handoff is made to the pediatrician, who now blocks & runs his way through other pediatricians trying to snatch the baby from him, which he has tucked under his arm like a little pink football.  He runs, he reaches the door to the neonatal unit, and plops the infant into a waiting bed.  TOUCHDOWN!

Cuz you've never made a typing error?
you always type without an error?
Stedmans has it with NO hyphen; that's how I've been typing for years. NM

I've been shopping around for some fingerless gloves to wear while typing. My hands get very SM

VERY when I'm typing, especially in the fall and winter months.  I've tried the the carpal tunnel gloves an they just drive me nuts.  I really just need something soft and warm so my hands stay warm.  Any suggestions?  I've been looking at the Wristies website and I've about decided to buy a pair, but I wanted to get some opinions.  Anyone use Wristies?  How do like them?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.  I have to take numerous breaks throughout the day to warm up my hands and it's really irritating.

Thanks!

NAILS??????? ROFL

long nails
I have had long nails for so long that I cannot type without them. I type using the pads of my fingers, not the tips. The funny thing is when I take the nails off, then subconsciously I try to type with the tips and it drives me nuts. You go figure.
Is that like hair and nails?
I was trying to figure out what aesthetics is and it looks like cosmetology or doing hair and nails. Is that right?
I finally have nice nails.
My nails are about 1/4" long. They're real and I keep them painted. I can't do the huge long fake claw nails.
Everytime I think of getting tips on my nails...
I think about what it would be like trying to type with them.
Question regarding long nails. (sm)

I just got nails put on last week and am having a difficult time getting used to them.  If you have long nails, do you type with the tips of your nails or your fingertips?  My nails are not very long at all, but it seems like they are hitting the wrong keys and I'm constantly having to back up and fix mistakes plus my wrist is starting to hurt.

Any ideas besides removing them?  I'd like to give it a little more time to see if I can adjust.

Thanks.

I know if my nails are too long it slows me

Maybe use those "diamonds" they put on manicured nails......nm

its separate from hair and nails
is around 40k a year.  Thats the highest ive made as an MT.  You need a license, go through state board, and there are several schools throughout the US.  Just do a search on "aesthetic or esthetic schools"
This keyboard good if you have long nails....sm
I'm a former typing teacher. I used to use an ergonomic keyboard because I had the fake fingernails. It is actually easier to type on this kind of keyboard with longer nails. Now that I am back to biting them down to bits of nothing, I use a regular keyboard again. You can get used to it pretty quickly if you keep at it, though.
So what part of your fingers or nails hit the keyboard? sm
the nails or do you flatten out your hand so your fingertips hit the keys?  This is very strange to me and I just can't get the hang of it.  My production is going downnnnnn
I tried it on my toe nails. It was easy to use and lasted over a week.

my dad swallowed 2 nails while working and had to have an EGD to remove them. nm

tip at least $10 when I eat out. I tell you one thing though, my pizza place always gets exactly what I order to me. If they didn't, I wouldn't tip as good. If I didn't get good service somewhere though, I would go some place else.
Typing. This is NOT typing, it is transcribing. There is a BIG difference. sm
Transcription includes typing, but so much more.
All kinds of cool stuff gets under the nails. Ask forensic scientists.
on workers who have direct patient care - they must have their own nails.
Lots of cases where babies in NICU got sick from the nurse's nails. nt

Goggle Soft Paws, little rubber caps you glue over the nails.

I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne

used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and  Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).

Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best.  In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander.  Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love.  My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything.  You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros.  I love it.  I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.

I love it too - love doing my nails 5 hours a day and staying awake

Love NOT getting paid while sitting doing my nails too.  It's a real turn on.

I tell all my friends to try it -- sit in front of your computer while you have no money to pay your rent and instead do your nails, you get a real buzz down in the pit of your stomach.

Spell as best you can or blank them and keep going. I've passed many tests when I've left blan

As you can already see, you've come to the wrong board! By using the word professional, you've
excluded about 99% of the population of "whatever" it is that hangs on these boards. Certainly not professional for sure! But you sure are doing a good thing for someone! Its the thought that counts. Sorry you met the dregs right at the start.
HELP! I've turned my screen sideways, I can't straighten it up. I know I've seen sm

I've always verified every line I've typed (I have my ways) -sm
If you're supposed to be paid a certain $/line, that's what you should be getting no matter how they do billing unless of course it's specified in YOUR contract with THEM.

BTW, I've never caught a company cheating me ever.
I've used it. It's the worst piece of crap I've ever seen.
seriously. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy, or their Vianeta program. Awful, just awful.
Wait until you've been there six months and if you've improved
quality and quantity, I'd say go ahead and ask.  Otherwise I'd say annually...  good luck
I've seen the same every place I've done acute care, and
pointing out dangerous or repeated errors (often in normals for goodness sakes!) never got the result I expected. When I would press the issue, supervisors said if the dictators didn't complain, then the mistakes must not matter!

It didn't matter if the MT changed what had been a cardiac med in the beginning of the report to an antifungal by the end - I kid you NOT! One poor girl used facial for fascial and fascial for facial!

I've used a few expanders, and of those I've used, all must be "coded" to get things lik
One thing I do to get around this, is to create a macro and then link the ShortHand command to the macro. It works for me, but I do the same five clients every day and only have about 20 or 30 macros/Shorthand commands that work like this. This may not work well for you if you have lots of formats and hundreds of docs.
I've been doing this doc for many years, so I've learned how to function with him. sm
I can tell what's a stutter, what's another word, what's just an "uh." Years of experience will get you through a lot.
Wouldn't want to do his charts all day, of course, but a few per day aren't bad. I haven't had to send his to review in a long time, but they do take a little longer to shuffle through.
I've worn contacts for 30 years. I've had both
hard and soft.  My vision is much better with the soft ones than they were with the hard ones.   When I first started trying contacts soft ones were still new and they couldn't get me to 20/20, so I went to hard.  Hard were okay until my eyes started changing shape and then I could no longer wear hard ones.  The soft should give you better vision as they conform more to the shape of your eye.
I've been a bully; I've been bullied.
I used to sell a lot on eBay. There are some people who buy high-priced items and play games with you. I've had to call them repeatedly, report them to different agencies. It's not fun. You put time and money into the business of selling, and there are people out there who live to manipulate the system and cause trouble.

And, I've been bullied by buyers who made unreasonable demands, insist that they pay by check when you clearly state you don't accept them. It's not fun, and is one of the reasons I don't sell anymore. People!

I've also bought from some sellers who I would not deal with again because of their unprofessional attitude.

But, overall, ebay can be a great place to be.
I've become the man I've always wanted to marry.
I live alone, am 46, never married, no kids, just dogs horses and chickens and just got done building a new house out in the boonies away from the rat race. (Used to live in Manhattan) Couldn't be happier. Selfish maybe, but never out of time, never stressed, and I don't take anything out on others. There's something to be said for being alone but not lonely. I'm not looking for a man to "make me complete." They only sap me of my time, energy and money (how little of it there is with MQ). I consider myself lucky getting to choose my time with friends, and not just stuck with a deadbeat partner. Ladies especially: Be strong and allow yourself to be independent. Any old man will not make you stronger!

80+ and still typing.

A great woman crossed into the arm's of God this morning.  She was 80+ years of age and still doing medical transcription up to the day earlier this year when she was diagnosed with cancer and even then she came to the office just until recently.  She loved her job and everyone loved her.  She will be greatly missed in the world of transcription as well as among family and friends.

Until we meet again.

80 and still typing
did she live in NJ?
When I had typing in H.S. (sm)
we had those little pieces of chalky paper that you would have to slip down behind that little "thing" on the platin, and type on that.  Can't even remember what it was called it was so long ago.  Boy, were we thrilled when white out, yellow out, and pink out came along.  LOL
Will you be actually typing them?
If you are then they are ripping you off.  I for one refuse to work unless I get paid for everything I type.  It all adds up over time!
Typing Fun
Hee, I do that all the time.  I like to see how fast I can make them speak and still type along.
anyone know how to go from typing
To search Google for terms without using the painful mouse?  Thanks.
I did something while typing
that changed my settings on my IE. Now I do not have my toolbar at the top and my icons on the bottom do not show for the programs I have up, but this only is when I am on the internet page. When I am using other programs, my icons show at the bottom. Now my favorites show at the side instead of being able to use the pull down through my toolbar. I do not see anything I can use to fix this. Any ideas?! Thanks...
