I do about 5200 a week now, but I am not applying myself as well as I could - sm

So once I buckle down I hope to do 8000 week--I goof off way too much. If I did not, I would be done what I do now a lot earlier and also have time to do more (i.e. another 3000 lines a week) if I chose to do it. Discipline is my problem. I do not have a lot of repetitive work either so I don't have that going for me unfortunately, though I am doing macros for phrases like crazy which slows you down some but in the long run pays off. Good luck.

Applying for job
Why is it when you are applying for a job and you would like to speak to a person to learn the platform, jobs offered, hours, pay rates, etc. you are always told you have to test first? What's up with that? I want information up front before the possibility of wasting my time. I may not want to test and then be offered a job paying 4 cents a line (or day).
Can I ask why? I am considering applying. nm

Have you tried applying in
doctors' offices? If you can realistically say that vocabulary and spelling are strengths for you, where English was a class you breezed through and you read a lot and have a huge vocabulary that can keep up with MDs who may also have PHds, then maybe you would be able to work in an office where MT is a big part of the job. It just isn't always easy to find jobs like that. You'd probably be transcribing from tapes, which can be just fine and give you a little feeling of job security because he may not want to bother with newer technology.
I'd just keep applying
You've only been out for a year. That isn't long. Just keep applying everywhere and something will most likely turn up.
Typically this week is a slow week in lots of places

because it is a big vacation week.  Typically things slow dow a bit in the summer too because people are putting off elective surgery, but at the same time lots of people going on vacation so it should balance out.

Lowest runs $900 week, highest $1400 week (sm)
Get paid 12 CPL. Been doing transcription for about 12 years.
By applying your logic, that would mean that those of you
on this board who hate George Bush actually want to sleep with him?  Ewwww!
Does anyone know how to go about applying for a government job?
nm
YES! I'm thinking of applying. nm

Question about applying for a job
I have an IC position at a company and would like to start looking for another company for more work.  Should I put my current company on my resume and if not, what would I put as a heading under experience for that company?  I should add that the company I work with is my first transcription job, so I've never had to put anything on my resume about previous experience and don't really know how it works.  Thanks!
I am leery of applying too, but as far as pay, it
nm
I would like to know to, so I can avoid applying
there. 3 cpl is awful.
Applying for IC positions
I was an employee of a large national for 8-1/2 years.  They provided the whole PC and set-up.  I've never been an IC.  Is there any point in applying for IC jobs if I've never been one?  I have a PC with a temp version of Word 2007 and antivirus software, but that's it.  No footpedals.  TIA.
Is it OK to give only two reference when applying for a job

i'm a stay at home mom, and would like to apply for a job. however, i don't have any contact with my previous employer/supervisor anymore. i don't know who to include in my reference that would be relevant with the job that i am applying for. please help!! i need some advice. tia.

Have fun applying at McDonald's in a few years!

Thanks for the info. I won't bother applying either. nm

applying at wal-mart..or mickey D's
With all the uncertainty, the other day I was in the customer service dept of Wal-Mart and there was a place to sit and fill out an application and I thought for a second or two, maybe I should apply.I didnt but the way transcription is going, I envision myself working at Wal-Mart or McDonalds soon..
Another question, as far as etiquette when applying for a job... SM

I was thinking about applying with the service that the hospital is outsourcing to and I was wondering say I take the test and get a job offer, is acceptable for me to request that I be placed on my former employer's account and will they honor my request?

They have been handling our over flow for several years and so I'm sure that there are MTs who have been on the account a while.  So I guess I was just wondering if they would let me work on an already well established account.

When applying for jobs on board

I am back in the "look for another job" phase of my life which I thought had ended.  After several years, I am back in the market though and have responded to ads posted on this message board.

Do you ladies and gentlemen typically include a cover letter stating you situation and stats, equipment, etc?

And, with regard to equipment, if we do not have what is requested but are fully willing and able to purchase it to be able to work for the job being applied for, should we state this?  It appears that jobs posted are asking for specific equipment and that is not a problem other than getting it shipped to us.  Unless they want us to hit the ground running these days.

Thank you for your time, comrades in arms.

Just start applying with your resume
Even though you've been teaching, that shouldn't matter much especially since it is English!  Good luck to you!  Just start applying and sending your resume.  The companies will give you the information you'll need to get back in the swing of things.
What type jobs are you applying for?
Clinic experience does not equal acute care experience. Need to look at those companies looking for clinic work and then maybe ease your way in with them in speciality areas.
thinking about applying for dr's office position...

and gosh, it's been so long since I've been to an interview...I'm looking for some tips on questions to ask the interviewer.  I don't like going to an interview and NOT asking any questions.

Also, I do have the experience they are looking for, although it has been about 8-9 years since I've actually done hands-on back office work...tips on explaining this would be appreciated too!

Last resort is applying at the service the hospital is using.

If I cant get google back, thinking of applying

Does anyone have any experience with TRS Institute- thinking of applying
?
Ammonia possibly. But, do have ventilation and do not inhale while applying it!

You have plenty of experience to be an Editor. Start applying everywhere.

If you are applying with nationals, it is kind of luck of the draw I would
suspect. The national I work for did not conduct a background check. I know that some do, and some don't. I guess the severity of your crime would have a lot to do with it, or some companies may have a no tolerance policy altogether. If you are looking at local clinics or hospitals you could try explaining face to face, but I would not try to hide that fact from them as they would not look kindly on it if they were to find out on their own.
JMO, but you are better off just applying directly to a company and skipping them altogether...

they basically try to fit your experience with a company and you can do that yourself...

When applying for an MTSO company....(2 unrelated questions LOL)
Do you just assume they have templates and word expanders? As I was doing my current job (which is now almost completely dried up of work), I realized how good I have it with the word expanders. That is one of the reasons I am so fast! So it is safe to assume they usually offer this kind of thing? I can only imagine they have to, but have never applied to one so dont mean to sound silly. I've been an IC for 10 years!

The other unrelated part is if the company is paying you 7, 8, 9 CPL... what are they likely charging their client? That is just my curiosity getting the best of me.

Thanks
Thinking of applying at Golden Isles Medical Transcription..sm
Would someone with some inside information please email me?  I would like to know some particulars about this company before I think of applying for a job.  Would be interested in their platform, the type of accounts, their line rate, whether they require weekend work, and anything else you would care to share!  Thank you.
I work 6 days a week every other week

Due to my company's payroll (it runs Sun-Sat), I'm able to work a rotating schedule with every other weekend off. Week 1 I work Sunday through Thursday with Fri, Sat, Sun off.  Week 2 I work Monday through Friday with Saturday only off.  Then I'm back to week 1 and get that following weekend off.

I've found that I'm more productive with shorter shifts and I have kids in school anyway, so I work a lot of split shifts during the week.  If possible, you might want to consider cutting back your hours to 30 hours and just work five 6-hour days in split shifts, 3 in the morning and 3 in the evening.

Keep applying at jobs is my opinion. Find out where your local hospital transcription is done

I look at the jobs posted and tons of MTs are applying. I am employed but not terribly pleased with

prefer OPs and have done MT work for about 16 years.  I have worked for MQ for 11 years for the Univ. of Pa. which they lost and now I am working for a small company in Michigan with just tons and tons of crap work.   I would like an IC job with OPs if possible.

How long should I wait after applying for a position before I follow-up. It has been as long as two
without hearing from some.  Just wondering if I should send an e-mail to follow-up to see if they received my resume or not.  I don't want to offend anyone but feel two weeks should be long enough for someone to at least acknowledge my resume and that I have applied for a position.  Right now I would accept anything even a note saying no thanks.  Any advice would be appreciated.  I haven't had to apply for a job for the past 10 years so I am a bit rusty at this.  Thanks again for any advice.
Foot pedal? Going from VXP to applying for other companies. What foot pedal should I get that woul
I need one even just to test so it seems.  Thanks for the input!
I have no AC. Will be in 90s again her in WI next week...

Ugh. Ugh. Worst part is my little kids. And, everything feeling sticky. I hate that.

*send me cool breezes* LOL!

Maybe twice a week. That is enough for me. nm

Did see that one, but saw one last week where...
this anti child predator group posed as young teenagers on the internet and lured men to a house where  NBC cameras were set up.  In 3 days about 20 men showed up to have sex with 12/13/14 yo boys and girls.  What was shocking was that not all of them were non-functional anti-social types.  Many of them were professionals including a TEACHER, rabbi, ER doctor, etc.  You should have seen their reaction when they realized they were speaking with NBC  Primtime and their faces were going to be showcased on national TV.  Needless to say, the  professional men's lives  have been ruined.  It is scary to  think there are so many seemingly trustworthy men who would show up to have sex with a child.  VERY SCARY.  Lesson for parents.  Don't allow you children to use chat rooms PERIOD!
I wish I saw this last week sm
I just ordered a bunch, but I'll keep track of your web sites and check them out. Thanks for the tip.
She already said 50 hrs per week and
That means she's making around $25 an hour, which is about right for an experienced MT with their own accounts and lots of shortcuts, templates, and expanders. Working for a company and working for self are two completely different ballgames. If you work for a company, then the person you are working for is making 3-4 cpl (at least) more than you are in order to pay you what you make and still earn a profit to run the business. If you work for yourself, then you set the rates based on what you need to make to earn a living. I would say a good average CPL rate for MTs with their own accounts is probably 12-13 cpl so you can do the math. If an MT is working for self making 12 cpl, in order to earn $25 an hour, they'd need to produce 208 lines. Not exactly unrealistic for anyone with experience and expanders, etc.

Sorry if you all aren't making that kind of money, but it can be made if you are good at what you do and you utilize production aids and don't settle for measly 6-cpl jobs.
my first week on my own
Wow.  I started with two companies at once which was dumb, but on is limited and pays better.  Only thing is their software is the most unuser friendly thing and I can't seem to understand.  I have to download the voice files from their site, transfer that name -DSS onto the text name, type the reports in Word and transfer them over too.  It's ridiculous.  Then I started with Infomatics which seems like a sweat shop.  If i made $75 all week, it's a lot.  They finally sent me a food pedal, and would you believe it was defective?  I've used either hot keys or the screen on the monitor. Takes 4 hours to do a 20 minute job, no joke.  They are like a sweatshop.  Got offer from Ameriscribe but don't want to work weekends.  I ran my own service, apparently from the stone age, and this is really a hard transition.  The typing is easy if I had a footpedal and with the other company could understand their stupid, stupid software!  HELP!
I had one the other week who...
kept slamming the receiver down on a hard surface while she paged through the chart.  And then when she picked it up again, she started speaking before she had it close to her mouth, so I lost a lot of what she was saying.  What a pain!
By the way, I was going 2 x a week at first, then 1 x a week and - sm
as I said now once every 2 weeks. As mentioned below avoid those that want to see you every day (I did that once years ago....bill was $600 after 3 days...needless to say I argued the bill and got it knocked down to about $200 and never went back) or use weird gadgets, etc. There are good ones out there.
This is the second week that

I didn't enjoy the show.  They all seemed nervous or off.  Kelly's twang is getting on my nerves. She reminds me of Ellie May from the Beverly Hillbillies.  Is there anyone else out there that thinks Kenny Rogers looks like Merv Griffin? His plastic surgery certainly is subtle.

I am going to do it once a week. (sm)
I'm so excited. I may finally be blackhead free. I was just about to buy some expensive stuff. This cost me a whole doll-hair!!!!
mt week
is MT week next week?? thanks
What do you think this week?

And again Taylor and Elliot take the cake in my book.  I thought Katherine did poorly again.  She should have thanked her lucky stars that she didn't get sent home last week and picked up the pace, but obviously she didn't.  Chris was just okay in my opinion.  He is actually boring me lately.  I used to think he was great.  Still think he has talent, just not entertaining anymore.

GO ELLIOT!!!! GO TAYLOR!!!!!
