JMO, but you are better off just applying directly to a company and skipping them altogether...

they basically try to fit your experience with a company and you can do that yourself...

When applying for an MTSO company....(2 unrelated questions LOL)
Do you just assume they have templates and word expanders? As I was doing my current job (which is now almost completely dried up of work), I realized how good I have it with the word expanders. That is one of the reasons I am so fast! So it is safe to assume they usually offer this kind of thing? I can only imagine they have to, but have never applied to one so dont mean to sound silly. I've been an IC for 10 years!

The other unrelated part is if the company is paying you 7, 8, 9 CPL... what are they likely charging their client? That is just my curiosity getting the best of me.

Thanks
I'm getting out of H.I.M. altogether...sm
I'm working on a master's degree in Professional Writing. Once I quit MT, I don't ever want to see another medical record again unless it's my own!
I too am feeling the same.. almost in tears and really feel like quitting altogether!! So you are n

help..how do you set it up for skipping? sm
I looked through the book and can find nothing that tells me how to skip jobs so that i can tell them how to do this. I tried # and number and plain numbers and nothing. If the actual Straight Talk needs to be set up this way, do you know where in the book this could be?

thank you for any help
Skipping, sm
I worked on a C-phone for a long time, and now I work straight internet.  Cherry picking goes on all the time.  My company has it reduced, FINALLY, where you can not see available jobs and cherry pick; however it is still done.  The MTs on the account know the difficult dictators and they will reject the job, costing someone else lines and $$$$.  If it do 3 or 4 very difficult jobs in a row that in my best opinion have been rejected by other MTs, I simply sign off  for an hour or two.  I don't do that often, but when I get jobs 2 hours old, that I know have been kicked around, I will to 3  or 4, but 5 or six starts hitting my pocketbook.  I simply take a break and sign off and come back in an hour or so.
Skipping School
My 17 yo stepson missed nearly every day this semester. Actually, he just turned 18 and has decided to go live with a friend. However, he wasn't a partier...stayed at home all the time...quiet. But he got on the school bus in the morning and then took off to McDonald's across the street, or took the city bus to the Mall and hid out all day. I don't know if he'll even graduate now. Anyway, point is, I am a very diligent parent, but sometimes there is nothing you can do. I'm not saying your neighbor is a good or bad parent, but I've done everything possible, and received very little help from the school system, law enforcement, etc. Once they are 17-18, there's not much you can do. Sorry for your noise problems. If it is really late, and very noisy, maybe you could get Codes Enforcement to do something about it.
skipping jobs - sm
I can't stand "cherry-pickers" they should not be allowed to continue in this field, as they make it difficult for everyone. Having used a C-phone for several different jobs - we were told how to skip jobs ( at times it was necessary - not just skipping jobs that we didn't want to do) although some people did and then the feature would be blocked for a while, usually until that person quit and then it would be returned to us. One job was a #8 - return to pool another was a #7 - return to pool. I think that the C-phone can be customized to whatever someone wants - however I have always found the instructions for programming the C-phone to be elusive or nonexistent - that is one of the great mysteries of this world.
skipping keys
No, it is just a plug and play
Skipping reports on C-phone
Although you are not supposed to, you should be able to skip over reports that are not specifically assigned to you. If you can't skip over them, they have likely been assigned to you by the administrator, in most cases the wicked senior transcriptionist. This is what I call reverse cherry-picking or programmed cherry-picking. It makes their day a lot easier at your expense.
keyboard skipping keys
Does anyone else have problems with some of the keys on the keyboard skips intermittently, not all the time, just sometimes?  My keyboard is brand new.  Not the most expensive, but it is new.  What can I do?  Please help.
DICTAPHONE STRAIGHT TALK HELP...skipping jobs

HELP PLEASE...is there a way a remote Transcriptionist can skip jobs on this system?

I will be out of town for a few days and there will be two people covering the account and one has to do one group, the other another group.  Since the docs all dictate from same source for diferent accounts, this has not been a problem till now.

how can one girl skip the people SHE is not to transcribe??

Does anyone know about how long the foot pedals might last? Mine is skipping and
getting on my last nerve.
If you work from a pool, it's when others are leaving you the crappy reports by skipping over the

Applying for job
Why is it when you are applying for a job and you would like to speak to a person to learn the platform, jobs offered, hours, pay rates, etc. you are always told you have to test first? What's up with that? I want information up front before the possibility of wasting my time. I may not want to test and then be offered a job paying 4 cents a line (or day).
Can I ask why? I am considering applying. nm
nm
Have you tried applying in
doctors' offices? If you can realistically say that vocabulary and spelling are strengths for you, where English was a class you breezed through and you read a lot and have a huge vocabulary that can keep up with MDs who may also have PHds, then maybe you would be able to work in an office where MT is a big part of the job. It just isn't always easy to find jobs like that. You'd probably be transcribing from tapes, which can be just fine and give you a little feeling of job security because he may not want to bother with newer technology.
I'd just keep applying
You've only been out for a year. That isn't long. Just keep applying everywhere and something will most likely turn up.
By applying your logic, that would mean that those of you
on this board who hate George Bush actually want to sleep with him?  Ewwww!
Does anyone know how to go about applying for a government job?
nm
YES! I'm thinking of applying. nm

Question about applying for a job
I have an IC position at a company and would like to start looking for another company for more work.  Should I put my current company on my resume and if not, what would I put as a heading under experience for that company?  I should add that the company I work with is my first transcription job, so I've never had to put anything on my resume about previous experience and don't really know how it works.  Thanks!
I am leery of applying too, but as far as pay, it

I would like to know to, so I can avoid applying

Applying for IC positions
I was an employee of a large national for 8-1/2 years.  They provided the whole PC and set-up.  I've never been an IC.  Is there any point in applying for IC jobs if I've never been one?  I have a PC with a temp version of Word 2007 and antivirus software, but that's it.  No footpedals.  TIA.
Is it OK to give only two reference when applying for a job

i'm a stay at home mom, and would like to apply for a job. however, i don't have any contact with my previous employer/supervisor anymore. i don't know who to include in my reference that would be relevant with the job that i am applying for. please help!! i need some advice. tia.

Have fun applying at McDonald's in a few years!

Thanks for the info. I won't bother applying either. nm

applying at wal-mart..or mickey D's
With all the uncertainty, the other day I was in the customer service dept of Wal-Mart and there was a place to sit and fill out an application and I thought for a second or two, maybe I should apply.I didnt but the way transcription is going, I envision myself working at Wal-Mart or McDonalds soon..
Another question, as far as etiquette when applying for a job... SM

I was thinking about applying with the service that the hospital is outsourcing to and I was wondering say I take the test and get a job offer, is acceptable for me to request that I be placed on my former employer's account and will they honor my request?

They have been handling our over flow for several years and so I'm sure that there are MTs who have been on the account a while.  So I guess I was just wondering if they would let me work on an already well established account.

I do about 5200 a week now, but I am not applying myself as well as I could - sm
So once I buckle down I hope to do 8000 week--I goof off way too much. If I did not, I would be done what I do now a lot earlier and also have time to do more (i.e. another 3000 lines a week) if I chose to do it. Discipline is my problem. I do not have a lot of repetitive work either so I don't have that going for me unfortunately, though I am doing macros for phrases like crazy which slows you down some but in the long run pays off. Good luck.
When applying for jobs on board

I am back in the "look for another job" phase of my life which I thought had ended.  After several years, I am back in the market though and have responded to ads posted on this message board.

Do you ladies and gentlemen typically include a cover letter stating you situation and stats, equipment, etc?

And, with regard to equipment, if we do not have what is requested but are fully willing and able to purchase it to be able to work for the job being applied for, should we state this?  It appears that jobs posted are asking for specific equipment and that is not a problem other than getting it shipped to us.  Unless they want us to hit the ground running these days.

Thank you for your time, comrades in arms.

Just start applying with your resume
Even though you've been teaching, that shouldn't matter much especially since it is English!  Good luck to you!  Just start applying and sending your resume.  The companies will give you the information you'll need to get back in the swing of things.
What type jobs are you applying for?
Clinic experience does not equal acute care experience. Need to look at those companies looking for clinic work and then maybe ease your way in with them in speciality areas.
thinking about applying for dr's office position...

and gosh, it's been so long since I've been to an interview...I'm looking for some tips on questions to ask the interviewer.  I don't like going to an interview and NOT asking any questions.

Also, I do have the experience they are looking for, although it has been about 8-9 years since I've actually done hands-on back office work...tips on explaining this would be appreciated too!

Last resort is applying at the service the hospital is using.

If I cant get google back, thinking of applying

Does anyone have any experience with TRS Institute- thinking of applying
?
Ammonia possibly. But, do have ventilation and do not inhale while applying it!
dd
You have plenty of experience to be an Editor. Start applying everywhere.

If you are applying with nationals, it is kind of luck of the draw I would
suspect. The national I work for did not conduct a background check. I know that some do, and some don't. I guess the severity of your crime would have a lot to do with it, or some companies may have a no tolerance policy altogether. If you are looking at local clinics or hospitals you could try explaining face to face, but I would not try to hide that fact from them as they would not look kindly on it if they were to find out on their own.
Thinking of applying at Golden Isles Medical Transcription..sm
Would someone with some inside information please email me?  I would like to know some particulars about this company before I think of applying for a job.  Would be interested in their platform, the type of accounts, their line rate, whether they require weekend work, and anything else you would care to share!  Thank you.
Yes DIRECTLY FROM THE ......nm

What I would tell you directly sm
I know you want a better job and for whatever reason, it just has not happened...YET.

Anything worth having is worth waiting for. Up to a point, the longer you wait the better it will be. Though, after a while it seems useless, it really isn't.

I had a wonderful job up until summer of 2007. Like a fool, I had $$ in my eyes and I took a job at 10 cpl. It was hard work and the line counts weren't great, but then they started to regularly run out of work. That was year ago this month. I started actively looking for work and I had offers, but I didn't take them because the grass is usually greener over the septic tank, rather than on the other side of the fence. I have been burned and didn't want to be so again. I sent out one last resume just before Christmas, but didn't think anything would come of it. I was wrong. My gift for Christmas turned out to be my dream job, so I quit the one I had.

In June, the one I quit in December begged me to come back and I accepted, because as a PT job, it would be perfect, and it has been. The boss I disliked is gone and a great gal is in her place. There is also a great deal of work.

I have the same time in you do, 15 years. I have waited much of that time for a full time job and a part time job to come together in a way that meshes as perfectly as these two do. All good and wonderful things come to those who wait.

I am wishing YOU all good things and soon. There is a company out there wishing for a hard worker, looking for their needle in a haystack and that needle is YOU. Best wishes and good luck!
Keep applying at jobs is my opinion. Find out where your local hospital transcription is done

I look at the jobs posted and tons of MTs are applying. I am employed but not terribly pleased with

prefer OPs and have done MT work for about 16 years.  I have worked for MQ for 11 years for the Univ. of Pa. which they lost and now I am working for a small company in Michigan with just tons and tons of crap work.   I would like an IC job with OPs if possible.

I was not meaning you directly at all
guess I was just trying to get across the point that in other parts of the states southerns are protrayed as such. I am white, my husband is black and my mixed daughter was an English major in college here in the south and an accountant now, She, along with me, shutter when we hear ebonics. Like where you live and where I live outsiders would probably not believe with all the diversity, huh?
Jan -- I type directly into the EMR
Your doctor can still dictate but you will type directly into the EMR but you need to do it in house unless they allow you access from home -- which they might.  But it is hard to charge per line as there will be some "normals" that they put in.  So I do it hourly at the clinic.  Have done this twice now for clinics.  The first one, only one doc did the dictation, then another started and pretty soon all five were doing it and I had to quit as they needed someone full-time and I have my other own accounts.  I did it just to help them out at first and get out of the house.  But they did not like the hours they spent after seeing the patient doing the charting.  So one never knows.   Good luck but don't burn your bridges.   Charge them reasonably but not out of anger.
Please see the post directly above yours.
While you are right that SSDI is different than SS, you forget that there are hundreds of children out there who have lost one or both parents and receive SS until age 18. They are certainly not retired so you're argument that it is SUPPOSED to be an account that helps people after they retired is inaccurate. It is, as originally stated, a program that was meant to help people who fell on hard times (not retirement).

As far as judging someone else, I'm just stating facts.

Like many other hardworking people on this board, I am not especially fond of watching my tax money be spent in a wasteful manner (I am not calling SS wasteful), and I certainly do not appreciate the people out there who are looking for ways around the system.

I could go on in this vein for a while but I've got to get back to my work. :)
Wow, this must be directly for a facility. Sm msg

Very hard to imagine an MTSO paying that type of money, although it is well worth every penny!  Good luck!  Grab it quick!

Even though IC directly for the hospital,
it sounds like you do not handle all of their transcription needs (in other words, providing the staffing, with the hospital being your account). For MTSOs who do have hospital accounts, I have seen the rates varying between about 18 cpl and 25 cpl (I imagine this is dependent on several factors, such as how the lines are counted, volume of dictation, and geographical location, among other things). For clinic accounts it also varies, but usually at a lower rate, about 12 cpl to 18 cpl, again depending on several factors.
