I saw this happen in MQ office while training. Supervisor was supposed to be training but
account was behind so she did transcription while she collected salary for "training" me. Of course I asked others for guidance rather than bother the furiously typing supervisor. I don't know if she cherry picked but she definitely double dipped into the MQ payroll.
I just copied/pasted
My existing templates into a new document in the facility folder. With each facility you set up you create a template list. I don't think there is a limit on templates, but I may be wrong. There are already some there and I actually just pasted into those and renamed them. I only have a couple per doc though so it didn't take much time.
Still don't know what I did, but I copied and pasted into
a new document and it fixed it.
I have copied and pasted from IRS

guidelines.  If URL does not work, the link is also included so you can paste and copy in your browser.

If you hire an electrician, a painter, or a roofer (as examples of independent contractors), you do not tell them HOW to do their work or WHEN to do their work.  Just try doing so and see how many contractors you can obtain.

Today, we have these large companies not only telling us how to do the work for which we have been trained, but when to do the work (specifically, what days of the week and what hours).  Certainly, the quality of the end product must meet the client's approval or the contract can be cancelled.  It cannot be cancelled on the grounds of not working specific days or hours each day to fulfill that contract.  If you sign a contract specifying you will produce 1000 or 1200 or 1600 lines per day and you meet that production, a client (the MTSO) cannot fault you if you produce the agreed upon lines in 4 hours, 6 hours, 3 days, 2 days, etc.  When requiring you to work a specified schedule of x number of hours producinig x number of lines, then it becomes employee-employer status, not one of client-independent contractor status.

Also note the evalutation system below.  I would saying doing QA in evaluating a contractor's performance is an evaluation system.  Would you?  What about being  put on probation or fined (as some companies are now doing)?  Does that point to employee status?  Can you put a roofing contractor on probabtion or issue a fine?

And...just read the section on training.  An eyeopener for certain.

Below are the guidelines.  I say we ICs start filling out the misclassified workers form.  If we are treated as employees, then we need tax relief.  If MTSOs provide employee status in some states and not others, AS WELL AS hiring ICs, then an IC cannot be required to adhere to the policies and procedures that their employees are required to adhere, and that includes WHEN the work will be performed and HOW it will be performed.  The guidelines are clear.

I'm not afraid of broaching this subject for fear jobs will go to a third world country.  They are going there at a rate faster than the speed of lightning anyway, and nothing we as ICs or employees can do will stop it.  They are going there because it is a cheap, cheap way of doing business.

Independent Contractor

The general rule is that an individual is an independent contractor if (the person for whom the services are performed) has the right to control or direct only the result of the work, and not what will be done and how it will be done or method of accomplishing the result.

People such as lawyers, contractors, subcontractors, public stenographers, and auctioneers who follow an independent trade, business, or profession in which they offer their services to the public, are generally not employees. However, whether such people are employees or independent contractors depends on the facts in each case. The earnings of a person who is working as an independent contractor are subject to Self-Employment (SE) tax.

Evaluation System

If an evaluation system measures the details of how the work is performed, then these factors would point to an employee.

If the evaluation system measures just the end result, then this can point to either an independent contractor or an employee.

Training

If the business provides the worker with training on how to do the job, this indicates that the business wants the job done in a particular way.  This is strong evidence that the worker is an employee. Periodic or on-going training about procedures and methods is even stronger evidence of an employer-employee relationship. However, independent contractors ordinarily use their own methods.

Misclassified Workers Can File Social Security Tax Form
Workers who believe they have been improperly classified as independent contractors by an employer can use Form 8919, Uncollected Social Security and Medicare Tax on Wages to figure and report the employee’s share of uncollected Social Security and Medicare taxes due on their compensation. See the full article Misclassified Workers to File New Social Security Tax Form for more information.

I copied and pasted the reports
into Chartscript.net. I didn't even bother typing the original in Chartscipt, just typed everything in word and then copied over. I also use ShortHand and there were always missing letters in my shortcuts when I plugged them in. I no longer work on CS but am on one that is just about as bad.

We were told not to use the Expander in Chartscript at all and whenever I tried to change/save something in there it would not let me so it was usless anyway. I did have to turn off that expander and remember to turn it back on before pulling in the next template though as you stated.

The only way I have found to accomplish any production at all with the last 3 platforms I have been on is to type in Word then copy over to the platform. And that works until the system totally freezes, or you get kicked off........*sigh*

If companies are going to expect a certain amount of production each day I sure wish they had platforms that would help us accomplish that!
there is a world of difference between MT training and NP training
honestly, I am in nursing school and have lots of health care experience as a paramedic and medical assistant. I think you can relax and leave your family's health either in your mother's hands or their physician's...
Its pasted inside. The whole thing, not just the link,
My name is Dr. Zeshan Ahmed. The Domain MTStars.com was registered in my name since it's inception, in 2002. Sheri and Me know each other since 2003, I did help her in developing USAType, Inc. website (which she owned at that time) while I was in Pakistan. On my personal trip to US in Jan 2003, I met Sheri in AZ. She offered me a Job and I accepted it. She arranged my accommodation, etc. and I remained in US working with her (initially as MT and later as Web Developer/Tech for USAType) at USAType, Inc. office for next 5 months. For some odd personal reasons, I came back to Pakistan, May 2003.

EASTER 2003, SHERI and ME

On my way back to home, she offered me to continue working for USAType as work from home employ. I accepted it. Now back to MTStars.com, I had no Credit Card at that time for the yearly renewals of the domain. I asked Sheri about it and she said she will take care of it and kept the domain as solicitor and I came to Pakistan. I started working online, I did work for USAType, Inc., USATasp (Text Platform for MTs/QA, Where the USAType clients were shifted later on), FlashType, FlashCount, MTStars and many other commercial sites. Every single line of Software Code for MTStars is written by me. I did the marketing & software development and she handled the front end. Down the road, Sheri did outsource MT work to a couple of Pakistani MT companies in Karachi and Islamabad and I took care of that as well. She made money and I received regular monthly wire transfers, mainly from the earnings of MTStars.com and partly from other outsourcing MT activities for USAType. We worked together and made USAType & MTStars a success. USAType was her business and MTStars was mine when it came to splitting of income & ownership. She sold the USAType in 2006. Afterwards, She started a voice solution EZ-Voice but that was a failure. I never faced problems because I was receiving money from my site MTStars. No doubt money always going to her bank account from Google AdSense & Pay Pal etc. and then she deducted the server & MTStars marketing expenses etc and sent me the remaining amount. Money was going to her because sponsors etc paying to PayPal account. Paypal is still not available in Pakistan.

In 2006, I got my first Credit Card here in Pakistan and was able to pay for online transactions. I opened the account with GoDaddy and asked Sheri to shift the MTStars.com domain in my account. As banking rules are getting strict for money transfers from US to Pakistan everyday. I need to show authorities here, from where this money is coming from. I have to file my taxes etc. as well.

Finally, the domain was shifted to my account in August, 2007. She did it herself, with her own consent and there was no hijacking or cyber squatting etc. involved in this process. The rest of it can be verified from GoDaddy as they keep track of each transfer IPs etc. Just want to make my point here that the domain was never stolen, hijacked or transferred illegally (Otherwise, she would have taken it back by now). It came back to real owner after 5 years in August, 2007. Even after the domain transfer the money went to her as usual, but my share was diminishing everyday. She owed me $7000 in October, 2007, when I sold the domain (for $7000) to one of my friends with a promise that the domain will be sold back to me by Feb1st, 2008 and I will return his money and in the meantime, Sheri and me will keep running the site. Sheri knew everything and was involved in all this process. She promised that all of my debts will be cleared by that time and MTStars would be back with us. But money never arrived and as per promise, the new owner was free to sell it on Feb 1st. Neither me nor Sheri own this domain anymore. It has been sold and re-sold.

I have been requested by all the concerned parties to make my statement to keep the records clear. Sheri was more like a mother to me for last 5 years and I still respect her. I have no personal grudges or agendas against her. Me and She was the part of all this process and knew everyday happenings regarding the domain. The best we can say now is good luck to new owners.

P.S: Every single line above is true. I have all the documentary evidence (those who are interested, I can email them the scanned copies), 5 years bank statements showing wire transfers from Sheri's account, money grams, MT houses worked for USAType, employment letter & independent contractor agreements. Most of these documents even lie with US consulate in Pakistan, when I applied for US visa this year and I had to show my purpose/funds for visit etc.

Thanks,

Dr. Zeshan Ahmed

Yes, I read your post, and I just re-read it, and I've copied and pasted for you in case

you've forgotten your own words! Your post above is 100% different "flavor" to it, now all positive and cheery! Your first post was 100% doom and gloom every which way, including "raining on your parade", and "if you want to go forward"...God, sounds like she's talking about jumping into oncoming traffic! Here is your quote:

My first boss (the one who hired me as a new grad) gave me some words of wisdom that I haven't forgotten. She said that transcribing at home with small children NEVER works under any circumstance. Either the work will suffer or the parenting will suffer.

****

How can the word "NEVER" in caps be interpreted in any positive way? You took about 8 paragraphs to cover every aspect and completely dash this poor woman's dream.  I'm not blind, I'm not talking about day care at all, I'm talking about the total negativity of your original post! You know exactly what I'm talking about, cause you added some sugar to your second version! And that's much nicer than the first!

C-phone used to call in to dictating systems to receive work. A special phone. nm
nm
I had a lot of trouble with static in my C-phone. I replaced the phone cord and that made a big

difference.  Also, have you tried a different headset?  Also someone told me one time that there is a microphone under your volume control on the right corner of the C-phone.  It's a tiny hole.  If you break off a Q-tip and stick that into the hole that will squelch a lot of background noise and that worked as well.  As far as getting your C-phone service, I heard that Dictaphone is "sunsetting" C-phones at the end of this year.  Meaning, they aren't going to service them anymore as they are considered an obsolete technology.  So, I would contact Dictaphone and see what your options are.

I know very little about Lanier equipment.  I've not used it as extensively as Dictaphone.  Is there a local appliance repair place in your area?  You might ask one of those places to take a look at your equipment and see what they think.  Kinda scary, cause they could do more harm than good, but maybe worth a shot.

Not much help, I know.  But I thought I would share what tiny bit of obscure knowledge I do have.

medical abbreviation list and medical drug list
Hi,

Anyone there who could help me out finding the latest abbreviations list.
I even want the latest drug list because my current program does not have many drugs.

So if anyone could suggest anything which is available online for informationd quick look purposes.

any help for medical abbreviation list and medical drug list would be very helpful.

I've changed them between an old phone and new phone, but the same company, i.e. Nextel.

I use my c-phone whenever we travel. You can hook it directly into your room phone. Be sure and as
xx
I think you can dial into most systems that require C-phone without having a C-phone nm
.
I am wondering if there is a way to use your C-phone with Vonage phone service?
??
May have to change phone companies, have switched to job using a C-phone. sm
Currently have Embarq (formerly Sprint), and my usage will be going up about 12,000 minutes a month.  What phone companies offer really unlimited for a flat rate?  TIA.
C-phone and ATT. There is no problem with the C-phone, but ATT wouldn't let me use unlimited.
nm
I have cable phone access and my C-phone works - sm
I am not sure about you problem, because it sounds just like I have mine hooked up.  The only thing I can think of is that mine has 2 line hookups in the back of the phone.  If you have this too, I would just try the other one, which you probably have already done.  Sorry that was not much help.  I wish you luck
I have a very loud hum when using my C-phone, but no hum when I'm using the regular phone. SM

Anyone else experience this problem with their C-phone?  Is there a problem with my C-phone?  At first I thought it was my telelphone line and called the phone company.  They sent a technician out to replace the lines and check the house, but the hum is still there on the C-phone.

It's driving me batty!

C-phone info regarding phone lines etc.
I am completely clueless on the subject of a C-phone.  Can someone help me understand exactly how this works?  Do you have to specifically have a separate "dial up internet" service to use the C-phone? I currently have cable internet and am wondering if there is anything else I need to get.  I guess I should contact my phone company.  At any rate, any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!
If you use a C-phone for work and have a digital phone

through cable, have you tried to take an incoming call?

We only have one phone line.  I rarely get/make calls and when I do we have cell phones.  I just started working with a C-phone and got digital phone.  I can go a month and my phone not ring, so far have gotten 3 calls today, but I'm afraid that if I try to answer the phone that I will lose my report.

I guess I could pull up a report and have my husband call on his C-phone and test it that way and then if I lose it no biggie.

Anyone use/try C-phone with Medicom's phone service?
Wondering if it works?
I just went through training and they
told me that MQ itself does not pay for spaces. I was trained on DQS and again it was told to me during training when I asked about that and the answer was, "No, DQS does not count spaces as MQ does not pay spaces."

?? I'm all confused now.

Training (sm)
To tell you the truth, and I'm not dissing the trainers, but I really would be sure they are passing on correct information by asking your transcription supervisor.

When I was trained, they told us to disable some of the features of the platform, like the capitalization after the period and the thing that corrects your text if you type 2 capped letters. These are probably some of the best features of the program and I, nor any MT who wants to produce as much as possible, would dream of disabling them.

So... I really wouldn't put a whole lot of stock into somme of the info they give out. To be sure, get a second opinion. :)
You will need a LOT more training
than you have to be a successful transcriptionist, or even a mediocre transcriptionist. Simply from reading your post, it is apparent that English is probably not your first language. You will need to improve your English-language skills considerably before you will be employable. On the basis of your post alone, I would not hire you. I would not even bother to test you since you have so little training and your English is so poor. You need to take a GOOD transcription course, not something offered by one of the matchbook-cover schoools and certainly much more than you already have taken. Self confidence is all very well and good, but simply believing you can do something is not an acceptable substitute for good training. You do not yet have the skills you need. It is, of course, unlikely that you are going to believe any of this, so to satisfy your own curiosity, just start submitting applications to transcription companies. One or two might let you take their test. Your results should be an indicatino of just how far you have yet to go to be properly trained. Good luck to you.
MT training is not enough
it is just a foot in the door. The real training comes in by doing various dictations from various clinics/hospitals. Every doctor talks differently or uses different terminology.

OTJ training
I had on the job training. I trained for about a year. I am very lucky that I have a family member who is in the business who was willing to train me. She actually talked me into it. I have now been working for seven years as an MT for her and another company.
My DH is in training for this job.
:+
Training
Just another word of advice from somebody who has been there many, many years ago. Please remember that you send mixed messages when you switch back and forth from underwear to diapers. This confuses them. I did what this other poster did -- make it a game, praise, praise, and more praise. In the end, he will get the idea. It does take perserverance on your part. Set that timer and then have a race to the potty. The winner gets to use the potty -- and we all know mommy never wins this race. Good luck -- he will be fine.
Training at MT
So how do you know when you've received proper training? I have finished a program with a local college but when you compare the training hours versus other colleges its way lower? How can I be assured that I am trained enough to be able to do a MT job? Any suggestions????
Training VR
That sounds wonderful.  However, this sounds like something that the doctor would set up on his own.  I am looking mainly for something I install on my end, train, edit, etc. from here.  I have a small account with three people, and maybe a couple more coming.  They would not want to be bothered with doing anything different on their end.  I wanted it for my end to speed things up for as they expand so I can keep up.
But are you in training?

I notice the first poster spelled clarity as "clearity".... A very easy third grade spelling word.  Are you coming to the job with experience of any kind or do they know ahead of time that they are training from scratch?  Are the editors paid well?

Because training an inexperienced person takes a lot of time and sometimes it's not successful.

BOS training
About the BOS AAMT guidelines. I am relatively a newbie with 11 months experience. When I started with my first job and I had been trained like you said to strictly follow AAMT guidelines. But when I got a job oh was I in for an awakening. They wanted things done the way they had always been done and didnt go strictly by AAMT. The acute care account I do now is the same way. I have been penalized for doing things according to AAMT. But every company and client has their way they want things done and you have to learn to follow them. Little things like AAMT second edition says only use disk now do not use disc anymore. Well I got penalized for that. They want disc used when referring to the spinal cord no matter what AAMT says because that is the way they have always done it. That is just one example. But yes knowing AAMT guidelines is good but it doesn't always give a newbie the advantage.
As far as training, you get what you pay for.

training
Just to let you know - they will take you off of training before the two weeks is up if you don't need it anymore. Mine only lasted three days but I had overlapped training with my last two weeks at MQ, so when they told me I was off training early I told them I had to finish up my last two weeks at MQ and I could only give them 200 lines a day for the rest of the two-week period since I had made arrangements around the two-week training assumption. They were fine with that.
More training
I have been doing transcription for 9 years now and am not making the lines or money I need to.  Anyway, there is a local school I was thinking about going to that trains in coding/billing and they have placement assistance afterwards.  I have heard it is next to impossible to get hired without already having experience in billing/coding.  They do have federal loans/grants to help you pay for the training, but the costs is 7,600; seems awful high to me, but if they can get me a job paying better than transcription, might be worth it?  Then again, I was thinking about just trying to get a job in medical records at a local hospital going in as a medical records tech.  I know I must sound crazy, just trying to figure out how I can bring more money into my house.  Thank you for any advice you can give me.
on-the-job training
Trust me, if you have no medical work background that involves terminology you would be totally lost doing MT. It's really like a second language. The only on-the-job training I've ever heard about was someone who worked in a medical office or a hospital records department for a long time and was taught MT while they were there. I know of no companies or hospitals, small or large, that would hire you with no experience AND no training/schooling to go straight to work doing MT. There are some that will give you a chance once your schooling is done if you test well.
Right on. Using VR = training it, and training it =

training

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting training in other fields?  I see a lot of jobs posted for radiology or even acute care/hospital work.  I did hospital notes when I was in school many years ago, but since then have done all clinic work-multi-speciality like psych, OBGYN, family practice, pediatrics, chiropractic, physical therapy, allergy, internal medicine, ortho.  My favorites are chiropractic, psych, OBGYN and physical therapy, but these seem to be hard to come by.  Work is becoming slim and I'm looking at other options.

I would love to learn surgery, ER, or even just be able to get more work with hospital notes or radiology.

Any feedback is appreciated.....thanks!

C-phone and phone line
I have cable for my Internet so I have my C-phone on my regular home phone line and forward my home phone number to my cell phone.
A c-phone is just a phone, with headphones sm

and a foot pedal.  You call into a number (hopefully 800 number), put in your codes, and a voice file comes on.  You use the headphones and the foot pedal, and transcribe on your computer into a word processing program, then send the finished file back per their directions.

The c-phone is not connected to the internet in any way.  There is no downloading involved.  It is just a phone by means of which you get your voice files.  It needs a phone line and you stay on the line the entire time.

c-phone from cell phone
I believe if you check with your cell phone carrier they have an adapter that you can use to plug into your cell phone from the c-phone. Not sure about this but I think I had a friend tell me she had to do this but it was a year or so ago. Hope this helps.
It connects via phone like, just like a C-phone.

I have an old actual C-phone phone if that is what you mean, (sm)
not the newer kind that connects to a computer.  I don't know if yours is programmed the same, but mine shows 8 to decrease and 9 to increase.  Hope this helps.
C-phone and phone plans....
I have a company that I have recently hired on with that uses c-phones.  At home I have an unlimited long distance plan, but I'm wondering if while traveling there is a plan that you can get in order to use a c-phone in a motel, relative's homes, etc.  I like to be able to still work while traveling and I feel this is going to limit me.  Any suggestions or ideas?
Digital phone/C-phone
Does anyone use a C-phone with digital phone service?  Does this work out okay?
