work.  If so, I see no reason why you can't charge her by the hour for what you do.  It could me maybe $100 a week insted of every 2.  I do think that is a rip-off and you're being taken for your generosity.

You're very welcome!! I had a great time, too! Took a couple of extra BP pills!!
You have a great weekend!!!  MomMT - where did she go?? Too much cookies and milk, maybe?  Bye, Guys!!
I dont want this whole link deleted so they are saying exactly the same thing about being asked to
work and have many backups and no work. Same exact thing. Probably many more that dont come on here that are just as upset.
As long as you're doing it just for spending
money & have a husband who is the bread-winner, then you'll do fine. If you're a single mom counting on this to support you and your children, then I'd recommend another field. Now that the greedy corporations have taken us over & are sending most of the work to India, they've pretty much destroyed our industry.
Does it bother you they're spending the inheritance?
And I know that healthcare costs are so out of control here that there are organized flights that go to India and other countries to get get their health care. Because it's sadly cheaper to fly halfway around the world, get a hotel/apartment for a month, buy food, and pay cash for surgery or medical care than it is to stay here and get it down.

He11, even some of the insurance companies were pushing for offshoring our health care to India.

And nobody has yet to say that we don't have great medical care here; the big gripe is that so few have access to it.
I would work extra if it is not asked of me
too often. Would you rather they hire extra help and then there may not be enough work to go around?
Spending too much time with your child?

If you are spending all that time having to proof
may as well hire someone else and proof their work. I've considered starting a business of my own but I can definitely see there would be headaches. I do IC for a gal and I really like working for her. She pays me a decent wage and I do my best to make the client happy because I know that will make that gal happy. Don't get me wrong. I'm sure I have made an error here and there; NO ONE is perfect. There are good days and bad days. Some days, I have to send loads of blanks to her but usually because the doctor seems to mumbling, sound quality, maybe a doctor's name in the report I'm not familiar with and don't want to put the incorrect spelling in, or a discrepency I may find in the report. There are other days when I have great docs, great sound quality and the doc may even spell an unfamiliar doctor name for me. :) I definitely hope the gal I work for is happy with my work and I would also hope she would say something to me if she was unhappy so I could fix it. Have you talked to your MTs about your concerns? Sent them changes you have had to make when you proof?
Guess what? When he's at work all day at HIS job, he's not spending time with the family
Grrrrr.
You would be better of just going to work and not spending so much time tilting at windmills.
.
It is the other huge MT website but one other time I put the name on here and they deleted it. This

is actually the first time I have really seen a lot of people on that website rip MQ because usually they have nice things to say. There are a lot of very unhappy MQrs right now.

Need help on tech board before my post is deleted a third time. Thanks. nm

You spending 3K in gasoline to make 4K plus all that time on the road? That doesn't make sense Pat

Do you have extra time to give away? For us
x
maybe you should pick up an extra account so you have something to do with all that free time OR
get a job doing QA. You sound like a frustrated QA person.
Oh it is a lot of extra typing that takes time which I don't get paid for! nm

I thought the same thing. Justify the EXTRA MONEY they're keeping
You know full well if the foreign MT was the same price they'd quit looking there too. It's all about the money. Who's he fooling?
If you're talking about MetroScript, I didn't find that they had any extra fees (sm)
They pretty much only charge you for what you use. I only pay $14.99 per month and it works great for me.
Line check, anyone care to share where you're at this morning.

When time permits, I always work extra so I have a little slush fund - sm

That way when the slow weeks come around (which they always do in this business), I can actually enjoy it instead of fretting about the money I'm losing.  For the last nine months I've been doing a little weekend account (maybe 120 minutes of dictation for a whole weekend) and stashing the money away and in October I'm treating my family to a week in Disneyworld. You gotta have some kind of reward to work for - otherwise you get discouraged and unmotivated.  But don't try making up the difference in one week, look longer term.

And then sometimes they want us to delete unused headers, which takes extra time, which we don't

It's cold here this morning!!! I had to turn on my office heater for the first time this year.
Winter's coming and it's supposed to be incredibly cold the next couple days.  YUCK  And, with the gas prices the way they are I guess I'll have to suffer with it a little colder this year.
The one time I asked for one, they said no. Ask and if they say no, begin looking elsewhere.

You're an idiot. You asked for help on a public forum
then get angry over the responses? OMG, do you even have a life? LOL

That's why I asked if it was a one-time thing or a pattern
A one-time slip-up is bad enough, but some people have a "serial cheating" personality that is unacceptable and definitely a deal-breaker.
If it was answered on another forum, let me know. This is the first time I have asked.

Reminds me of the time husband starving and I asked
the PA for the physician about a prescription for Megace to get hubby's appetite back. I was told by him "there was nothing that would work"- told him I could buy marijuana, knew this would increase appetite but illegal- long story short, I changed doctors, asked for prescription for Megace, got it and the appetite was regained. After all the years I had typed on this for cancer patients and also for AIDS patients, knew of what I spoke.
I asked this specific question to a physician 1 time
how do you determine a middle aged person- I told him noticed more women than men, same age bracket, called differently- told me he did by their looks only. I am considered senior by others but the one I really care about most seems to think I look like a spring chick!
Can they do surgery extra fast? What do they do with the extra glove in the pack?

Extra shift or extra work
Has anyone taken on an extra job or shift with a new company for a just a few months to get out of debt or to be able to pay for something that is needed or wanted?  I am thinking about taking on another job to get out of a stressful debt situation.   I am just afraid I would be going into another stressful situation working more hours with the very busy family schedule I have.
Ok, maybe I should just stay in bed LOL How about "every morning" not everyone morning. Wow. C

All the time. You're not alone. nm

I'd be all for spending some money on ....
tracking down the father of her child.   Where is he?  Why shouldn't HE be made to provide for the  child he brought into the world.   That's another big  problem...  Not saying this is your friend's situation, but when you have an average of 30% of whites, 50% of Hispanics, and 69% of African-Americans having children without benefit of marriage, we've got a REALLY big problem here in this country.  People are turning their lives into a train wreck and then expecting the taxpayer/government to pick up the after math.  Let's hold the 2 people who bring these children  into  the world truly responsible for them financially.  Maybe people would be a little more careful if  they didn't know  the govt would be their safety net.
Oh yes, I'm spending 3 times as much it seems.
I have been trying to make up a menu for each night and trying to include the cereal/bagels whatever for kids in the morning and buying only what's on my list.  It did help, but I've only tried it twice.  Another good thing is it's in and out as I buy it because I truly believe that the meat in the store has just sat there since no one is buying.  I'd much rather go twice a week (it is across the street) than go only once a month and buy "old meat."  I'm not a big fan of frozen fresh meat anyway; it seems rubbery after it's been frozen...
If you're not paid for your time
you shouldn't account for your time.  It's none of their business if you have to go to the bathroom or get a drink of water or even load the washer or pet the cat.  They just want control which they don't want to pay for.l
OF COURSE we know what daycare is! Its anyone OTHER than Mom spending the majority of the day
course, just the way lots of you like it!! Dump and run!!  Unreal. The Govt monitors day care - oh, there's a relief!  Then the Govt monitors schools, which are your next dump off point for your kids! And of course you can't spend the day with your own kids - they grow AWAY from parents over the years, not closer.  You can't control your own kids, cause they're NOT your kids - they belong to daycare and their peer group friends.
wealthy spending money
I have minimal respect for Oprah. Yes, she does some good things, but I have noticed that she always makes sure she get splenty of publicity for her "good works." Her remark to David Letterman about her show being so much more than a "talk show" was arrogant, pompous, and demeaning to the rest of the "talk show" hosts.

Last year when her audience got those cars, it was publicized as if she gave them the cars - in fact, the car manufacturer donated those cars - it didn't cost Oprah one red cent. When her audiences get all those goodies on the show, I'm willing to bet it isn't costing her - that stuff is mostly if not all donated. It's a tax deduction as a cost of business for her anyway.

Frankly, I think she and Dave deserve each other. They are 2 extremely self-absorbed people.
Gracious! You all are spending way too much $$ on stickies

GSMI, Inc.  Has good single sheet or flat fold.

Computer Extras has a great price on the large roll of stickies.  Their flat fold is too flimsy for my printer and separates too easily.

I usually get 1" perforated roll from Computer Extras for $54 including shipping.  It looks like it is for dot-matrix printers (has the holes on the side of the page as leaders to fit the printer) but works great in laser printers.  I tear off as little as 6" inches and stack them up in my manual print tray.  The leaders give an easy separation guide for the offices, too.  The 1" perforation makes little waste when separating multiple chart notes/patients on a page.

Same here, although I won't be spending it on a trip to China
I do disagree about not being good at MT though. I think many competent MTs shoot themselves in the foot by not recognizing the value of their skills and working for less than they are worth.

Thanks to all who replied..

Thanks for your advice.  I know I just need to search and search some more but sometimes I get soooo very down about the whole thing.. and to think that I left an MT position at a hospital near my home four years ago that I enjoyed but wanted/needed to go home to work.. Thing is.. about a year down the road, all their MTs went home to work for them--all making nice cash per line and benefits.. all local doctors.. waaahhhh.. I seem to make THE WORST choices..

Guess I'll keep looking..  thanks again.

Thank you to all of you who replied!!

I really appreciate all of you for taking the time to respond... Being new to the business, I was wondering if I was just going crazy to be a little hurt by my boss' behavior.

Thanks again, everyone!

I had already replied about this down below
I hadn't looked at the book very well...just got it today and I've been having a bad day. My son is sick and things have been rough around here. Thanks though...I got it figured out!
Thank you to everyone that replied!
I'm sure that he is going to be just fine. You know how it is when you get a dog, they feel like a child to you. I just worry a little, but he really is doing great. I can tell that he is happy. The first couple of days he was very lethargic and you could just tell by looking in his eyes that he didn't feel well. Now he has more energy and his eyes are brighter. His coat is shinier and feels soft compared to the *greasy* feeling it had before. He is great with my son, and has already become a part of this family after such a short time. I feel very lucky to have found such a great dog! Thanks to all of you for your kind words and advice. I'll let you know how Buster is doing after our next visit to the Vet next week.
THANK YOU to those that replied. sm

It seems that I need to have a serious discussion with my boyfriend.  I agree that if the children don't want to eat what we are eating then they can fix something for themselves.  I don't mind purchasing alternate food items every now and then for them, but that can become expensive.  I also feel that it teaches them that they can have whatever they want whenever they want no matter what.  I was raised that you didn't get your own "special" meal just because you didn't like what was being made for dinner.

Even though they are not my children, it is partly my money that is going into their picky little gullets.  I feel that I should be able to enjoy a meal instead of feeling sick to my stomach from eating the same old things all the time.  My boyfriend has different feelings about the matter.  He feels guilty if he doesn't do what they want.  It's really kind of scary sometimes how he babies them.  Like I said before, his daughter is 18 years old and is AFRAID to use the oven.  I can understand wanting your children to have the best and to be happy...and I can also understand how we, sometimes, as single parents can feel very guilty about things, but there comes a point when enough is enough!

I thank goodness sometimes that we don't live together yet.  They live next door.  It's actually very nice this way for now.  I do love his children very much and I love him so very much, but there comes a time when children need to grow up a little and get out of that stage that everything is about them.  I raised my son in a very different manner.  Yes, he is spoiled, but not in such a way that he thinks the whole world revolves around him and everyone else is just supposed to fall in line.

I should say that they are great kids and are not snotty or rude.  They make excellent grades in school and they treat me like gold.  I don't want to sound like they are monsters.  I think that I will sit down with him and tell him how I feel about this, and tell him that if we can't make some kind of compromise about dinners my son and I will be eating at home from now on and will come over after dinner.  I am not going to keep contributing to the grocery bill for dinners if I can't have what I want to eat from time to time.  I'm hoping he will agree.

thanks to those who replied
your answers helped me and confirmed what I had already been feeling. It's been a very, very difficult situation and you are right about his kids not having enough discipline. Thanks again.
