I totally agree. Them not paying is NOT hearsay. It is fact so why let them scam hard-working MTs.

SAY NO.. to their advertising. What a scam they have going.

Totally agree with you. Companies are paying
pittances for this work and it is crummy work - almost impossible to make any money.  I believe it is more difficult than MT or QA and the $$ is just not there.
Totally agree. They're no longer paying for this so-called skill
and that's part of the reason the quality is down.
I agree...working at home with children is possible just very hard...
I have a 9-year-old and an 18-month-old and I wake up early in the morning before the kids wake up and work and then work some more during my daughter's nap...there are days I want to pull my hair out but my children don't suffer and neither does my job...thank goodness my company is flexible otherwise I couldn't do it...
That has SCAM written all over it. You'll end up paying lots of money to find out. nm

I totally understand your post, and the fact that
the fact that you (and the rest of us) are paid so little for high expected volumes of production, that absolutely ANYTHING that happens to slow us down, even a tiny little bit, is often a financial disaster for those of us living paycheck-to-paycheck and just barely getting by. If we were FAIRLY COMPENSATED for the work we do, instead of being continually CHEATED, UNDERVALUED AND UNDERPAID, then minor glitches like new software, new accounts, ESLs, would be just a bump in the road, not potential food stamps and/or homelessness.

I, too have plenty of work. And I, too am appalled at the fact that no matter how many hours I work, how much faster I try to type (without compromising quality), it seems like it's always SOMETHING. Right when you're clicking along and the income is starting to go up a little bit, they will:
    A. Hit you with harder accounts, ESLs, or scratchy, fuzzy-sounding files that even a bat couldn't hear clearly.
    B. Have a huge push to get absolutely everything in TAT, right before a holiday or long weekend when you KNOW it's going to fall off, and half of us will be scrounging for work.
    C. 'Upgrade' the working platform, (which translates to: )
    D. Put all these obstacles and hoops you have to jump through in your way, which are big time-wasters: Meetings, 'training', and various PC and program tweaks.
    E. Decide to take their server down for maintenance, and it's always during YOUR shift.
    F. While you're midway through a l-o-n-g, 1 hr, 45-min. dictation, which has a mushmouthed/ESL dictator, is very technical and requires a lot of research on drugs, procedures and equipment that is too new to be in the references yet, and during the entire dictation, a loud going-away party for one of the nurses is going on just a few feet away from the dictator, who is eating and while dictating, and occasionally turning away from the microphone to watch the tipsy party attendees, all the while continuing to dictate. The report was of course STAT, and was 30 min. away from TAT when you downloaded it. Then your supe calls you in the middle of all this and asks you what you're doing, and where the report is.
So, you think it is okay for hard-working MTs to earn 7-8 cpl for their hard work?? nm
    :{
well i worked for a "teaching" hospital before and it was not A LOT of hard dictators, in fact
ESLs are everywhere and she already stated she has lots of ESLs where she is at anyway. that isn't her concern.

I was merely suggesting the OP (not you) might could work her 2 days off there to get a feel for the work load, ethics, and environment as well as some office chit chat to get a feel for the place. of course, we all know what you start with isn't necessarily what you end with and that is a given.
The fact is I am not working for them anymore and left them in

February so this was a surprise.  What I don't like is that they took out internet fees, insurance, etc. and I don't need that taken out, so mine would probably be somewhere near $100 or more had they not done that.  I am going to write them regarding this.  So taking out all of that, they had 2 cents left over for me and I have no idea how they got the figure anyhow because I was QA and the only transcribing I ever did on this stint with them was the initial reports that you had to do to work on DQS and whatever reports might have been blank when it came to QA.  So I do not understand and they need to 'splain this to me.  LOL

Yep, I have to have a sense of humor when you get a check for 2 cents!  They have already insulted me enough with their ways, which was why I quit, but this is a totally new "way."

Strange company and when it is after the fact of being rather dishonest where they are trying to make an impression, you can imagine how the 2 cents really made a great one on me!!

I agree, sounds like a scam.

My definition of hard work is totally different.

When I need a reality check on how good I got it with this at-home typing thing, I do my chores outside in the freezing cold or sweltering heat and realize that is about the only other thing I could do in this state for income, and I'd be lucky if I got minimum wage with no bennies out of it.

I guess you have to look at it from a different perspective every now and again.  I've heard of people who leave MTing at home because they miss the buzz of an office, and then the cranky patient's and office politics breaks them down and brings them back to doing their thing solo again.

For me, the pay isn't too awfully bad because I figure don't have to buy fancy clothes, I don't have to worry about a car, gas, packing/buying lunch, and putting on a happy face if I don't want to.

We all have bad days.  Those are days when you really need to take a deep breath or two and walk away for a bit.  They will get better.  If the bad days just keep on a'comin, well, then I suppose it would be time to look for a change, and there's nothing wrong with that either.

I agree it is a scam to get your info. I too got one that said they needed to update my account -sm
info.  Since I have never ordered or sold on ebay I knew it had to be a scam.  I also forwarded it to Ebay at spoof.com.  I believe I got another one with a few days and I emailed them back and told them to leave me alone as I knew they were a scam because I don't deal with Ebay.  So far I have not received anything else from anyone posing as Ebay.  Good Luck.  Too bad people can't making a living the old fashioned way - earn it honestly!!!

I agree. In fact, when somebody says....
that their marriage is heaven and their spouse is fabulous, I get suspicious.  I have a great marriage, but in 14 years there have been times when he (and I) have acted like a bonehead.  One HUGE fight I recall was the day he got off the phone with his brother and told me that he was going to the races.  There I was with 2 babies in my lap (less than a year apart) and it was Saturday.  I'd already gone through 5 days with him at work with those 2 babies in my lap, and I wasn't too keen on him tooting off to have fun while I sat there yet again with the kids.  I just wanted the courtesy of him asking if I minded if he went, but instead he just assumed he could take off without a care in the world.  He felt I was asking him to give him permission.  Anyway, it was a mess.  It didn't mean he was a bad husband deserving divorce papers (he's considerate about 99% of the time), but it was a "bad day."  It happens.  Nobody is perfect.
I agree, because the fact that when our jobs
sent overseas and patients' medical information is put at risk.  That should be pointed out.  Of course NO industry wants their work outsourced overseas, but I think there is even more reason to be concerned about OURS being outsourced because of the confidential nature of the records.
    Not working so hard
I'm not about to bash you or call you a liar either.  Each of us long time MTs have our own stories to tell.  When we have our fellow MTs obviously hurting in this business and seemingly not knowing which way to turn, I for one would rather try to lift them up and make suggestions that might be practical and useful to them. Hearing your (or my) success story isn't likely to accomplish this.

I agree . . . unless they are paying you
    Don't do it.
I respect that opinion. In fact, I agree with it.

I don't feel it's professional to drink on the job.  However, if other people feel they can have a glass of wine while doing their own work, that's their deal.  It's not like anyone gets drunk off of one alcoholic beverage, unless it's a really huge Long Island iced tea.  LOL

My posts weren't directed at you, but at those people who think name calling, rudeness, belittling people, and being judgmental is merely "expressing a different opinion".  You can completely disagree with someone and keep it civil.  That's being respectful and mature.

I agree with you old, old MT. Taking a low-paying
You have to stick to your guns and say, "I'm worth more!"  In so doing, you're saying that we're ALL worth more.  But.....people WILL apply for those low-paying jobs.  Alas.  I'm a new MT (not even a month into it), and I am making more than double what that internship is offering!  Why?  Because I know I'm worth it.
I agree too. WE are paying SS taxes--sm
which is SUPPOSED to be an account to help people after they retire so they can continue to live a reasonable life. It is NOT a handout, and I think the poster who suggested such was thinking of SS disability, which is not the subject of the conversation at hand. Some are just LOOKING for an excuse to judge someone else.
I tend to agree with the above poster. I know, for a fact, that some hospitals sm
have inadequate QA people. Heck, where I worked, it was nothing for a newbie transcriptionist of
maybe 4 months to QA another newbie of 1 day, hired right off the street with no training or eductation in transcription. Sad, but true. I had 1 QA person, there for over 40 years, and 2 QA people there for 6 months. How fair is that? I referenced the BOS many times. They didn't even know what it was.
working at home is hard work
I have been working at home for 22 years. I used to get the same statements from people asking me what I did all day, until one Sunday in a local paper they compared 8 hours of sitting at a computer and typing to digging ditches 8 hours a day, not as physical but a lot of mental use, especially transcription. I do my housework early in the morning if I get a chance. If I have extra work at night, I have my family order pizza at night. My husband used to say to me what did you do all day and I would tell him, well I typed, did laundry, made beds, went to the grocery store, before I started typing, took kids to baseball practice. Now I am older and wiser and so is my husband and he does not dare ask me what I have done all day as he knows if I am working I am making money and if I have the time I will clean, but if I don't, then it can wait until tomorrow. Occasionally when people would ask me what I did all day (not husband), I would reply "nothing", just sat with my feet up all day lol. My feeling is this, if they don't like it, let them do the laundry, dishes, empty dishwasher, sweep the floor, vacuum, etc, and you know what they do and will. Don't let them get you down. Just because we work at home does not mean we have it made quite contrary, we work hard and just look at how our bodies fall apart because of it.........
Agree, nationals are not paying well anymore.
Unfortunately many MTSOs are following suit to be competitive. It is definitely ALL about luck now. I was VERY lucky to find an old fashioned service where the clients still want top notch quality work and are willing to pay accordingly but it took a LONG time to find as that is now very rare, and I have 20 years in and can type anything. I say at some point we will have no choice but to move on or they will have no choice but to make a complete turnaround when they realize just how badly these reports are being butchered :)
I agree 100%. Where can you find a job paying $30+++ an hour? nm
    x
agree with U steady eddie, and bet if they were paying (sm)
downtime - they'd THINK TWICE and hire appropriately!
Good for you. There is no reason any hard working MT should put up with that crap. nm
    :)
Proving that working at home is HARD WORK

HELP!!!!  How can we prove to our significant others that working at home is hard work and just because we are home, we are working and CANNOT always find extra time for laundry, dishes, cleaning, dinner, etc?????

I hear, "you work 6 hours a day, I work 10...I expect everything to be done if you have those extra 4 hours.... " Well, my 6 hours of working is actual sit at the computer and type my fingers to the bone....yes, I take breaks and do have extra time..but then I shower, chat with friends, catch the news..whatever....it is not excessive.  I keep up on the house most of the time, juggle my schedule to pick kids up from school, etc.... so once in a while if I just don't feel like making sure everything around the house is done, i get "What did you do all day..."  I AM SICK OF IT!!!!

My job is a full time job, I make more than I ever had working in an office 40 hours a week.....and I don't want to feel guilty for taking breaks and having some quality time for myself in between working...

Especially when he goes to work and talks to all his coworkers, brags about how easy his job is, sits around waiting for an assignment etc.....  Just because he isn't home to do the laundry on his breaks, why should I?????

sorry this is so long...but I KNOW a lot of you can relate!!!!!

What a terrible thing to call a hard-working MT.
Disgusting name to call someone who has worked very hard, probably gone to college to learn this, invested a lot of time and money, perhaps worked in a hospital, certainly worked very hard, to be called a slob!
They are SCAM, often referred to as "Trans-scam" sm
Trans America Associates used to be Trans Am and they are apparently altering their name so as not to be recognized for the scam they are.
Merry Christmas to all hard working guys & gals in the MT industry!

I agree, but it's so hard getting used to at first. -nm

    Hearsay.
    Who is your source?
    not hearsay
Not all that has been stated is hearsay.  Watch the interview with the Aruban prosecutor, the Aruban spokesman and spokeswoman for the Aruban govt.
    I totally agree
This is a 10-year-old girl, not a mass murderer. She is in a lot of pain, having suffered a most significant loss, and is trying to reach out, not always in positive ways, but the flowers are wonderful. Where they came from does not matter. PLEASE do not read anything nefarious into her actions.

She needs help, and smiles, and maybe a hug when she is ready.

Fear is a terrible thing, particularly when it turns normally rational folks into masses of paranoid jelly. I despise that we have come to this.
I agree with you totally, thank you!

    I totally agree with you..
I have been editing work that would just BLOW YOUR MIND. On top of mispelled and misused words, we have bad grammar and punctuation and then typing something different than what the doctor says and if you read it, it doesn't make sense. For example, I cam across this yesterday, "which was done when he was very-very young apparently a ditch is inspected." He actually said "which was done when he was very, very young. Apparently, it did get infected." I come across contractions, etc. This gal actually argued that her scores are always 98%. There were so many redlines on her work, I might as well have scrapped it and typed it myself. I don't know if this is due to schools or not, but when I was a newbie, I don't remember making that bad of mistakes!!!
    Thank you, I agree totally
Get over it already.  They cheated you, are cheating  you.  You MUST like it if you stay and continue to be treated that way.  How many other MTs have had a bad job????  Trust me you guys at MQ are NOT the only ones.  There are TONS of jobs out there.  Go get one, that is what the rest of us do.  Go do it.
    I so totally agree sm

I posted my resume on MT Stars a couple of years ago and, like you, I was flooded with calls.  The company I selected, I didn't even know existed.  I have been a very happy camper for 2 years, plenty of work, decent pay, great tech support, wonderful people who make you feel like "family."  Best move I ever made.

I think maybe the reason why people keep allowing themselves to be used and abused by companies with sporadic work is the known versus the fear of the unknown factor.  Believe me, the stress of starting a new job is small potatoes compared to never knowing you will have enough in your paycheck to cover the bills!

    I totally agree with you!!
I have stuff come up on my screen that just blows me away. Most of it could be fixed if they just read over their work and saw that the sentences do not make sense.
VERY WELL SAID!! Totally agree with you!!
    x
    I TOTALLY agree with you...
What looks cute and hip on a 20-year-old just looks cheap and classless on a 50-year-old.  I'm 45, so I'm not some young thing poking fun at middle-aged women.  Older women can look very classy and actually YOUNGER if they "dress their age" and by that I don't mean mumurs and bedroom slippers or stretch pants and sack-like tops.  When I dress up I might wear a nice tailored pinstriped suit or something like that.  I do NOT go out in anything from the junior department.  There's a reason for "junior" clothing and it's not size, it's the style of fashion.  To all the women who disagree with you, I'm afraid the notion that older women look young and cute in daisy dukes, a belly shirt, and a navel piercing comes from those who dress that way " thinking" they look hot, not necessarily the opinion of others in general.
I totally agree with you. sm

We never went on vacation with our kids and left them with grandparents to come back and find out that our own lack of parenting resulted in somthing that our own kids may have been doing behind our backs all along.

Give me a break. Blame it on gramma?  How about staying home with your kid and taking a good look around to realize that he's the one that's hiding things, not your MIL.

There is obviously a lot of hatred between DIL and MIL here.

Message for you mom, "get a grip."  This stuff doesn't all happen because their at gramma's for the week. You're obviously doing something wrong here.  Forget your "vacations." and your "rules" and be there for your kids. Teenagers LIE.  It's been going on for centuries.

You can go on "vacation" when they're all grown up and gone.  By the sounds of your message, I would say the sooner they go, the better.

    I agree totally.
    sm
    I totally agree! Thank you!
The people who are criticizing seem to think that the president can just snap his fingers and immediate help will appear. There are people all over the country who are going there to help, donating money by the thousands, etc., and nobody says anything positive about that. Nobody could have predicted a disaster such as this and it takes time to get things rolling, but it IS being done.
    I totally agree
Many physicians, young and old, are not on the technology coat tails.  They have absolutely no interest in changing the way they do things.  I think that as long as using this technology does not become an across the board required mandate by some governing agency, transcriptionists will be in high demand until doomsday.
    totally agree
    !!
    Totally agree with you
He always was respectful and nice to everyone, a good guy but when he sang, it was a different Marty. I only tuned in to see him perform and then would change the channel. He reminded me of an Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam when he sang with so much angst. Loved it!
    I totally agree. sm

I used to be married to a hunter.  The whole idea felt wrong to me and I hate guns. I haven't had to deal with hunting or guns for 20 years now.

I'm sure I will get blasted by some NRA people for saying I hate guns, but oh well.

    i agree totally
I have taught children who were mainstreamed in 5th grade who wanted to do extracurricular activities. Social skills are lacking. Around here, they test them and sometimes they have to be put in a lower grade. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and look within. Some behavioral problems are learned responses to what is going on at home. What is the attitude towards authority in the home? See other avenues.
    Totally Agree
I would prefer to work for a little bit less money and have a wonderful boss than get paid a ton and hate my job.

I work for 7 cents per line now and I don't mind it at all. I have a wonderful boss and love my job.

    I totally agree
Recently I switched to being an editor, I have only been in transcription for 6 years and really feel like it is not a good profession. We are all treated like robots, whether it be an Editor or a transcriptionist!!
I totally agree. This is the only job I have
ever had that you have to take a "test" for the job.  Usually, you just interview and if the person doing the hiring knows what they are doing, they can tell if you can handle the job or not.  They know what questions to ask, etc just to see what you know.  The length of the testing for MT has become quite ridiculous.
