Mine is located by going to the start menu, to accessories, to games, to sound recorder. As long as it is quiet in the room, the sound quality is excellent.

I don't have sound on my computer.. However,
I'm sure there are many reasons for a "growing gap", not just your liberal agenda.
That is my COMPUTER sound goes bananas. Sorry. NM

How Do I Know if My Computer Has a SoundBlaster Compatible Sound Card?

I am new to this site, and I love it already!  It will definitely come in handy for starting up with my MT job again.... Its been about a year.

Just had a question for those of you that might be more computer savvy than I... which isn't hard.    For my new MT job, I need my computer to have a SoundBlaster Compatible Sound Card.

Say what?!

I have no idea how to know if my computer has this already or if I need to purchase it.  I don't wanna sound completely dumb before even starting the job fully by asking this question of them.... eek!

Plz help!  Thanks!

Someone pinch me.....
I have just landed a really great job and had to share!! I have been doing just some overflow stuff and have been searching for something to fit me for months now! I have just landed a job that lets ME pick my schedule and they have no problem with the hours I want to work and the days that I want off during the week to accomodate being with my kids over the summer!! I cant believe it....so someone better pinch me so I know its real!! I am just soooooo happy I had to share! Have a Happy and safe 4th everyone!
How do you guys pinch your pennies
Anything, how to save on toiletries, can you mix and match what you use for your hair as well as dish soap, split the toilet paper into two separate sheets?  I absolutely hate using coupons because I end up buying what I don't need just because I have a coupon so those are out.  Any under cover stores to find cheap scented candles?  Cheap produce?  I think if I could cut back it would save me a lot of stress on where my money is going, it just leaves my pocket so easily these days. A way to get all the food groups in without breaking the bank because thats where most of my money disappears, toiletries and groceries.  Advice needed!
Try the front jack on the front of the CPU if it has one- or on the
it if is not pushed in all the way, sound will only be in one ear.
Micro cassette...

I already have my machine.  Do love that ebay though!

Cassette charge
I do the same, micromini casettes and I pick up and email the work back. I charge .15 per line.
What is the best micro-cassette transcriber? SM
Believe it or not, some docs still use tapes.  I have a Sony transcriber but the tape fades in and out.  If I let off the foot pedal and then play again, the tape will get louder and clear and then gradually fade again.  It's really annoying and I'm thinking it's the transcriber.  Is there a machine out there that will play a tape with more clarity and consistency?
Where are these recorded to
platform, file extension?  Send e-mail if you want to, and maybe I can help you.
Yep, it is re-recorded
and you're right, it is not always when the doctors dictate. Sometimes they seem to be trying to punish me (after I've had a particularly difficult time keeping up with their erratic assignments) by greatly reducing the work they send me, and then I will receive work that includes some dictations that are days old. Little do they know, I consider it more of a punishment to assign the work the way they do and expect me to keep up than to reduce my work (a welcome break because of their workflow issues).

Looking back a couple of weeks ago, I reviewed my invoices for the first four months of the year and realized that my work had basically doubled in the third and four months from what it was the first two months. During the same period of time, I had scheduled several outpatient surgeries and did not request any time off because I thought that I could handle the work despite the surgeries. Even though they doubled my work I was able to do it, but it nearly killed me. Had I known they would be doubling my workload, I would have been able to plan better and would have asked for a day off here and there to make it easier to get through without killing myself or missing deadlines.

That is just one example of how I try to plan things outside of work, and I do not want to take time off as I do not want to lose pay, but they always seem to know when I have something planned and the workload increases and they begin overlapping the deadlines. I have two other work sources besides this group, and the others do not have the same problem. Always know when the work is coming and communicate well about any changes.

Sorry this is so long, I guess I just needed to get it out. It drives me crazy. Thanks for your response.
I have a broken cassette tape - where can I get it repaired
I tried doing a search on here, because a few years ago there was a post about a place that repairs broken cassette tapes.  I kind of remember it being in Florida somewhere, but I cannot find the thread.  Does anyone know where I can get a cassette tape fixed??? RAdio Shack says no, they don't fix them.
mangled mini cassette tape

I have a sony mini-cassette tape that is bunched up on the inside to the point where I can no longer pull it to straighten it out. It is just stuck. This has a full day of dictation on it. Anyone know a gentle way of trying to pry this cassette apart? It's the only way I can straighten up the tape. I did it once before over a year ago and it took 4 hours, but it worked, but I don't remember what I used. I don't know how it happened. I just want to fix it because I'll have to be the one to tell this doctor he has to do his dictation all over and it won't be pretty. Thanks.

Belts, then regular cassette tapes...
then mini, then micro...an IBM Selectric then magnetic cards, then magnetic tapes...those were the days!
Recorded statement -- think about it before you do it
My attorney has always advised against doing a recorded statement.  Sometimes it is the way that the question is asked as to how the answer comes out.  Also, we all know that errors can happen in recorded statements and they are not given to you to verify and sign off on, and the tape is erased so what do you do if there is an error in it?   So I would not do it again, I did and it did not help my case.  Took a lot of attorney time and money to get everything cleared up and then rule in my favor.  If it is a black and white of a rear end, might not be a problem, but if there is any question at all, do not do it unless you type up what you want to say and a recorded "statement to them" and do not answer their questions.   Just my 2 cents worth
Most likely they are being recorded as raw .wav files...sm
...which are huge. Sony does have a proprietary audio format (can't remember now what the three-letter file extension is) that compresses the files, and I'm sure the user manual for the recorder will have instructions on how to switch back and forth.

Jay
You have played around with this for a year
x
Are you referring to a cassette tape that has dictated material on it?

I would try to spool it back with the eraser tip of a pencil, but I wouldn't waste alot of time doing so.  I've had this happen in the past, and fortunately for me, I returned it to the physician, explained the problem, and he said, "no problem"...I'll just redictated it.

I am again stating here that the single most important thing one can to do to ensure the quality and lifespan of tapes, is to keep them in their plastic case when not in your machine and being transcribed.

My kids always played or still play outside sm

I refuse to have cable (garbage) TV and have since my 11-y-o was 2.

2 of my older kids are grown and gone. I still have the 11-y-o and her 15-y-o brother at home. All 4 are underweight or borderline. Not because they don't eat because boy do they ever.

My kids also have the "can't sit still" type of personalities where they have to be moving all the time.

What is really sad is that my 11-y-o is 87 pounds, which puts her in the just below normal range and she thinks she is "fat" because society is beginning to make anyone with an ounce of body fat look "overweight." It's sick.

My poor older son is 6 foot 3 and 135 lbs. He has tried everything to GAIN weight and he has never been able to gain so much as an ounce. Of course he gets teased on the "flip side" because he's so darn skinny.

It's time society stopped obsessing.

You could always decline the recorded statement and
send them a written statement instead.
that Seattle played GREAT....but....sm

In the end of the game, when the interviews were happening over the dais/podium......even the SeaHawks said that *Pittsburgh won it and that they deserved it*...

like I said - Seattle played the better game, but Pitts always gets down and gritty toward the end and is why they have won 5 SuperBowls.

Seattle is a great, young team and I wish them well and love Tim Hasselback (who screwed up last night to all those who missed it).  Maybe better luck NEXT year.

Now all you sour grapes posters, put on your big boy or big girl panties and DEAL WITH IT.

Pat was played by Nora Dunn.......I think....nm

$50 per hour of recorded transcription...sm
is a very low rate. Think of it this way, how many minutes can you transcribe in an hour? Subtract that number from 60 and you'll see how many hours it will take you to transcribe, then divide the $50 by the number of hours it will take you to do the 60 minutes. I believe that there used to be a "standard" of 1 min of dictation = 4 minutes of transcription time. So, basically you'll make $50 for four hours (or more)work!
My son has played since 2nd grade, quit last year and sm

came back this year excited about it for the first time in 4 years.  I did not realize that he was not having fun anymore until I see how much fun he is having this year.  I also talked to a few college scouts who said that it does not matter if they take a year off to concentrate on grades.  My son missed it more than he thought.  I am just glad my husband and I kept our mouths shut last year.

but Seattle played GREAT!!!!!!....GO TEAMS!! NM
xx
Not sour grapes - We recorded the game
and have watched those plays more than a few times.

Especially the one where he was CLEARLY NOT over the line with the ball, only his shoulders and HE KNEW IT. He looked RIGHT at the camera as if to say, "Am I gonna get away with this"?

The ball was far too low underneath him to be even close to his head. Watch the replay and see for yourself.

I will admit it. I cried. Cried like a baby! I (sniff) still (sniff) can't.... talk about it much. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I kept getting a recorded message to call some company..
I had never heard of, sometimes twice a day. So, finally I called it and it obviously went to India.  I told him, not very politely, that I was tired of getting their recordings and they needed to remove me from whatever list I was on.  He was still sputtering and stammering when I hung up.  Grrrrr!
I agree, they just played it on our local radio here. Also, General Honore..sm
I heard him being interviewed by CNN today and boy is he The Man In Charge. The authority of this man outstanding, he got the troops, the supplies, the convoys in there. Finally we're getting somewhere. I thikn he's going to be the "Rudy" of this tragedy.
Your company will dictate whether working off line via recorded work is even

We played our rescue's favorite game if she started looking worried when a storm came up.
Normally we would do as mistoo does and ignore the storm, and she did fine. But one storm was particularly loud, so she seemed a bit anxious. I got down into "let's play" position on the floor, and proceded to play a nice loud growly-bump game with her. We had a good time, and the exercise not only distracted her, but the physical exertion calmed her nerves and made her very happy.

Recently I kept my sister's dog for a week and discovered that fireworks cause her to shake terribly. I called my sister, who had never seen her quake with fear - because they leave the dog outside all the time. So all those times fireworks have gone off in the neighborhood, her dog has been outside alone, quaking in fear. So sad. For her nerves I put a T-shirt on her (supposed to be calming to put on semi-tight clothes) and let her sit in my lap on the couch. Yup, all 50 lb of border collie up on my lap, LOL.
Wasn't someone who played in the movie "As Good As It Gets" named Ardell (a male)?

Be up front

I'd be up front with them and just flat out tell them that you'd rather they didn't contact your current employer.  Most companies understand that.  Offer plenty of references so they have a way to gauge your work.

Your name sounds familiar.  You wouldn't happen to have a husband named Mikkos, would you?

Are you sure there are none on the front? sm
I have a Dell desktop, and I have 2 additional USBs on the front of the tower.
If you can put a in front of it, it is followup..sm
For example he had a followup visit scheduled. OR He is to come in for followup in 2 weeks.

He will follow up in 2 weeks. OR

He is going to follow up with me in 2 weeks.

Hope that helps
One foot in front of the the other sm.
Oh honey please run don't walk, right out that door.  This man you live with is only in your life to beat you down with discouragement and lies.  Please do not allow this to continue.  You were created by one who counted the hairs on your head, is the God of the universe but he knows you by name.  He did not make you for destruction but for good.  Please take your children away from a person who would put them down, call them names and does not care one bit about their well being.  Begin to look at yourself for the wonderful, divinely created queen that you are, you have purpose and potential and this man is only there to keep you from seeing it.  The day you walk out the door and shut it a ton of weight is going to fall off your shoulders as you will begin to realize that he does not love you, he does not love anyone but himself.  You have to show your kids that you love them too much to let anybody (even their own father) treat them as less than great.  You are a woman and deserve to be cherished, protected and provided for, anything less is not acceptable.  Please go and as you do please know that myself and I am sure many other people out here are praying for you and lifting you up.  We stand in the gap for you!!  Now go girl and don't you dare look back.  Go and be fabulous!!
I agree, but front-end AVR and EMR will
the work bring back to the US, with a minimal number of MTs.
Is it their computer? Why are they installing a firewall and autocorrect on your computer? That sm
is usually the responsibility of the transcriptionist, especially if an IC or SE.  Which company?
I have a cat who dashes in front of my feet
I'm thinking of using one of my dogs squeaky toys to get his attention when he cuts me off again, that will show him!
that was going to be 'question them up-front' and see how they respond..(nm)
xx
Our cat (yes we have a zoo) plops on my desk right in front of me - sm
usually on my note pad or a patient list, makes it interesting too. But she doesn't usually stay long, and if the dogs are in she hides ---her and the Husky are mortal enemies, granted it does not help that he tried to eat/kill her a couple weeks go-- our signals got crossed and my husband let the dogs in before I could up up the gates to ensure her safety. Luckily I was right there and was able to grab the dog before anything really bad happened. So my husband learned an important lesson that day...communicate with me when you let the dogs in, or put up the gates first.
Had a drive-by shooting right in front of my
home office window in July. Unfortunately, a baby got shot in the head. I thought it was someone setting off cherry bombs or something - the pops were too close together I thought for gunfire. It was 2 girls and a stroller and they didn't even realize the baby had been shot at first. It was a big howdy-do. The cops were out here for hours, blocking off the streets so they could look for shell casings. A couple of news trucks too, although the subsequent TV news reports were somewhat inaccurate regarding the location and details. Never found out what happened to the baby.

Anyway, right after this happened, the guy and teenager kid across the street stayed away from their house for about 2 weeks after, coming by periodically to check on the mail. The cops would occasionally call on the house during that time. I never did find out what the deal was and if there was connection between these people and the shooting, but I always worry about a gang thing or a home invasion thing and they get the wrong house (mine).
OK. Now there are construction guys out front
using a big saw to cut through our new concrete sidewalks that have already been dug up twice since being put in this spring.  I can't hear to work.  They didn't even warn us of any construction or water shutoffs.  How many times do they have to dig up the same old spot this year before they get it right?
One of those would be cool for my front porch. sm
I think I would leave it up all year and decorate it for the different seasons and leave it on all night.  I used to know a lady a long time ago, giving away my age here, who had one and had it all decorated with crystal glass ornaments and red garland. I liked it but my mother said it looked like a tin can.
How did they get past the front desk and
where was security when they didn't take no for an answer the first time?  Having worked in a psych facility (which has a higher level of patient confidentially) and tyring to be "forced" into giving information not able to be given, it became natural to just say no.  NO ONE on my watch got the first hint of information they were not entitled to.  People may want information but getting it is something different.
front tooth not sure about $$ but expect....nm

You are talking about front-end VR. Not very good.
Slow learning process for the rec engine. Very tedious.
There are signs all over our hospitals right from the front
s
You don't need a macro. Just add a semicolon in front of
your yo abbreviation so autocorrect will back up and take out that space. Then type 34;yo and it will expand to 34-year-old.
Sorry, don't have it in front of me, only have #2 and wait to hear from others, sorry, not sure!
I haven't sprung for #3 yet, I found #2 confusing enough, just do verbatim. I may have misspoken.
Front-end/back-end systems...

"Front-end" SR means that the original dictator's speech is turned into text. "Back-end" SR means that someone listens to the original dictator, redictating and "cleaning up" the original dication.  This "sanitized" redictation is then fed into the SR engine.

The main disadvantage of "front-end" systems in the healthcare setting is that they must try to adapt to the speech peculiarities of many different dictators, whereas a "back-end" system only has to deal with the speech patterns of one dictator, namely the person who does the redictation.

Back-end dictation adds a layer of human intelligence to the conversion of speech to text because the person redictating presumably catches errors, eliminates hesitations and miscues, squares up ambiguous sentence structures, etc. - things that front-end dictation cannot do or does very poorly.  As such, while the back-end speech engine might still cause some errors that require keyboard correction, there should not be nearly as many as front-end systems produce.  And, a back-end SR application can be less sophisticated than a front-end system because it is not being required to deal with so many vagaries of human speech.  In fact, a back-end SR application does not need artificial intelligence at all, whereas front-end SR really does.
