First post in response to mine only validates my statements and rests my case....Thank you!

I wouldn't use lower case. I'd use upper case. Don't worry about it. nm

Follow up regarding C phone dictation post below sm

Went to the Urology Clinic this morning.  The doctors are dictating on a C-phone to a transcription service and they are transcribing the reports and sending them back to the office for me to QA.  I download the files, check them, print and save.  My questions is how can I have them route these files to  my home computer.    Wouldn't the transcription service have to send the files to me so that I can access the site on online with a user name and password?  Can I do this through AOL or do I need to use Internet Explorer.  Anything else I would need?  Just need some input, because this current Editor may not come back and I may be taking on their actual transcription also.  Big Company.  Don't want to loose this one.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yes, I read your post, and I just re-read it, and I've copied and pasted for you in case

you've forgotten your own words! Your post above is 100% different "flavor" to it, now all positive and cheery! Your first post was 100% doom and gloom every which way, including "raining on your parade", and "if you want to go forward"...God, sounds like she's talking about jumping into oncoming traffic! Here is your quote:

My first boss (the one who hired me as a new grad) gave me some words of wisdom that I haven't forgotten. She said that transcribing at home with small children NEVER works under any circumstance. Either the work will suffer or the parenting will suffer.

    ****

How can the word "NEVER" in caps be interpreted in any positive way? You took about 8 paragraphs to cover every aspect and completely dash this poor woman's dream.  I'm not blind, I'm not talking about day care at all, I'm talking about the total negativity of your original post! You know exactly what I'm talking about, cause you added some sugar to your second version! And that's much nicer than the first!

C-phone used to call in to dictating systems to receive work. A special phone. nm

I had a lot of trouble with static in my C-phone. I replaced the phone cord and that made a big

difference.  Also, have you tried a different headset?  Also someone told me one time that there is a microphone under your volume control on the right corner of the C-phone.  It's a tiny hole.  If you break off a Q-tip and stick that into the hole that will squelch a lot of background noise and that worked as well.  As far as getting your C-phone service, I heard that Dictaphone is "sunsetting" C-phones at the end of this year.  Meaning, they aren't going to service them anymore as they are considered an obsolete technology.  So, I would contact Dictaphone and see what your options are.

I know very little about Lanier equipment.  I've not used it as extensively as Dictaphone.  Is there a local appliance repair place in your area?  You might ask one of those places to take a look at your equipment and see what they think.  Kinda scary, cause they could do more harm than good, but maybe worth a shot.

Not much help, I know.  But I thought I would share what tiny bit of obscure knowledge I do have.

I've changed them between an old phone and new phone, but the same company, i.e. Nextel.

I use my c-phone whenever we travel. You can hook it directly into your room phone. Be sure and as
    xx
I think you can dial into most systems that require C-phone without having a C-phone nm
    .
I am wondering if there is a way to use your C-phone with Vonage phone service?
    ??
May have to change phone companies, have switched to job using a C-phone. sm
Currently have Embarq (formerly Sprint), and my usage will be going up about 12,000 minutes a month.  What phone companies offer really unlimited for a flat rate?  TIA.
C-phone and ATT. There is no problem with the C-phone, but ATT wouldn't let me use unlimited.

I have cable phone access and my C-phone works - sm
I am not sure about you problem, because it sounds just like I have mine hooked up.  The only thing I can think of is that mine has 2 line hookups in the back of the phone.  If you have this too, I would just try the other one, which you probably have already done.  Sorry that was not much help.  I wish you luck

I have never heard of that. When I emailed
the phone company, they did not even mention such a product, but I live in the boonies so that could have something to do with it. Does it cost a pretty penny to get? TIA:)
I have emailed you and have more info. - sm
    if you want it.
    I emailed my "boss"

This is what was forward to me. It comes from the accountant -

I have not heard about the IRS pushing for this.  However, I seem to recall hearing that the FTB is pushing for this in California.  Basically, it is easier for the tax collectors to get their money from employer contributions as opposed to quarterly payments.  The independent contractor status has been under attack for a number of years and this may be the way to finally eliminate it.  Check with your accountant to see if he/she has heard anything.

    That's funny, because I just emailed her--sm
and asked her the very same thing, except for the power part, I know how that works. Guess I am not the only one!! :^)
I already emailed you with a company to fix

    Hey there - I just emailed you w/some info...nm

per your request, I just emailed you *S*

To the person who emailed me...

Thanks for your reply and your time in replying, but I totally disagree.  (I don't reply back in email, as I never know WHO it is replying back to me... could be my MTSO!)

Just because I'm an IC for an MTSO does not mean they own me.  If they want to own me, I had better be getting a hefty salary, insurance, 401K, paid vacation, sick leave, personal days, season tickets to the Cowboys games, and a company car like my husband gets from his job. (And they do own him sometimes, up to 80 hours a week and more, but he sure doesn't get paid per line! Not hardly.)  It was all IN MY CONTRACT.

You are right, she does not care that I have children. I DO. Which is why it was IN MY CONTRACT that I do a 24-hour turnaround, no less without prearrangement.  I am not asking her to care about my family, but I am asking her to care about the contract.  Sorry, but I refuse to do what you did and have someone else take care of my children.  That is why I do MT rather than make a lot more using my college education.  This is why it was, I repeat, in my contract.

It does not just come back to what the boss wants.  She's not my "boss". I am my own boss, working within the bounds of our contract.  She is the one who keeps wanting me to go beyond my contract with no consideration for it, and it's not going to happen.

If, like you seem to indicate, that's just how MT is... then yes, I will end up leaving the business.  However, judging by the other responses, this MTSO needs to learn the difference between IC and an employee/slave combo.
