In our house, we're all allowed to make suggestions. sm

and a lot of the time we do the shopping together. We try to make sure that the majority of us like something before we decide on it for dinner. And we're always trying new things and have found many new favorites that way. However, if there's something we're planning on having that one of us doesn't like, I'll make a simple alternative to it (like maybe fish, etc.)

I certainly can't criticize the kids for not liking everything we like, or tell them to go without if they don't like it, because half of the time it's ME who doesn't like the planned dinner. For example, they all love steak and I can't stand red meat.

We try to include enough of a variety so that everyone's happy. If one person isn't crazy about the main dish, then more than likely they're going to eat more salad and veggies or maybe a sandwich with it. It all works out. :)

any suggestions how to get them out of the house?
We've had our house professionally sprayed inside, outside, and entire yard 2 times already this month. This morning I got up to about 80 ants in my shower, and the other day I killed well over 200 on my desk while I was trying to work! Anyone have any ideas?
That's not allowed where I live. They will make you

Ya know what, you're allowed a bad day or two. We all are. Ignore all the judgmental SM

"super" women here who act like they've got it all together, never resent anything or anyone, they all make 50,000 or more a year, have the greatest job in the world, perfect husbands, perfect kids, and perfect lives.  They're only fooling themselves.

I feel for you!  And I understand that you don't resent the child you've been "given" but that you love her and you just have days when you feel weighed down and angry.  You do without and give all of yourself to your child and then you get angry when you type reports on self-serving, vain women having their faces lifted or their eyes done as if that is the most important thing in life - looking younger.

I know you love your child.  You don't resent her at all.  You do all you can for her.  You're just having a bad day.  Like I said before, you're allowed a bad day every now again.

We're not allowed to put 'the pt.' unless it's dictated, so
when in doubt, I put the patient's first name, or in some cases Ms. Johnson, or Mr. Smith.
Oh, I forgot. You're only allowed to hate and resent white people.

I need suggestions to make money - Please!

I've had it as of today. Because of low work, I have half my lines necessary for this week. I'm tired of working 7 days a week just to get my lines. I need to get out. I need to earm at least $2500 net a month to keep my head above water, and I'm certainly not making that lately.

I've been working from home in different jobs before MT'g, and don't want to go back into the cruel world with backstabbing employees again (been there, done that).  All I know is working at a computer since ྔ, at home, outside the home. Love the computer. I'm no youngster, either, so that cuts my chances at most jobs even if I would apply at outside jobs.

I'm not very artistic, so can't do into crafts. I can't sell either; been there, done that. The worse thing is I'm not very people-oriented lately. I'm almost agoraphobic since I had taken care of my mom.

I've worked in accounting, medical billing, inventory control, all outside the home while working part-time at home with a secretarial service typing manuscripts, and various other clientele, which I gave up because almost everyone has their own computer now and can do that work at their own place.

I've been throwing ideas around in my head for months now and the cons always seem to outweigh the pros.

Any suggestions?  Please don't flame, I'm serious.

Give it up and enjoy your vacation! They'll live w/o you for a few days. You're allowed! :) nm

They do make house calls to fix tractors -sm
at least Sears does. I'd look into it if I were you. I think the price would be worth it in the long run. We are in the boonies, and had trouble with our tractor (bought at Sears) and they came here and fixed it. We could have loaded it up on our trailer and taken it into town, but they came to us. As for attaching the trailer to the truck, do it when it is empty first of all, much, much easier, this way you can shift the trailer about by hand if necessary, hard to do but very possible, impossible to do if loaded though. I haul our trailer (small one 8 x 10) on occasion, and a 17 foot boat now and then, and have attached both loaded and unloaded. Still no good at backing up, but I am learning. ----I am planning a trip to the Nick Hotel too, Summer 2007 or 2008, saving up for it first, then will figure out when we are going!
You're full of sh*t. You should see the house across the street...sm
where they live. It's a total DUMP, and this is a pretty nice neighborhood. They've been arrested for selling meth supplies. They dump their garbage behind our house. They dump big pots of ??? (cooking oil, I think) down the storm drain in front of their house.

We tried being nice at first, but with behavior like this, I'm done. These people are just rude.

This is not "being prejudiced." This is having to deal with rude neighbors who are bringing OUR property values down with that weed-infested DUMP over there.

I don't believe you're Indian, just posing as one to stir the pot.

buy groceries, and provide for my two kids all on one paycheck.  I recently got a job doing QA and getting paid per hour and that has helped me tremendously, but I know how it is to scrape by on 8 cpl, low line counts due to a number of factors that work against us (high ESL accounts, technical difficulties, and interruptions).  It isn't worth shelling out $300 for certification when you get very little in return not to mention the $300 could be better spent on clothes for the kids or to pay the electric bill or to buy groceries, etc.

We should be treated better than slave labor!  It's ridiculous and very discouraging to say the least.  Hang in there!  I've been studying coding on my own and I'm about confident enough to take the CCS exam.  After that, I may move on to RHIT, but that means back into the office.  So we'll see.

I don't know about you, but I've got kids to feed, clothe, and house. I need to make a decent

living.  I'm not going to be cheated.  It sounds as though you've decided to let yourself be used and abused aby the MTSOs all with a big smile on your face.  Whatever!  It's MTs like you, not I, that have caused the pay rates to decline.  MTs like you who will accept whatever abuse they companies hand out, accept being cheated, and accept losing jobs to India.

You'll be back on here next week or next month posting under a different name, crying about your paycheck and looking for sympathy.

You're going to have to make a change.

If you can try to work an hour or so earlier or later to get in some lines when her son is sleeping.  I find that if my children/DH are awake I want to be with them, even if just watching TV, so I'm more productive when they are sleeping.  If you think this new account situation is just a temporary thing and in a month or so you won't have to work so much then just have a talk with son and explain the situation and make an effort to spend some quality time with him.   Starting with any new account is takes a while to get productive, but if this new account is too difficult, ask to try another account or change companies.

I gave way too much to my job and not enough to my family, even though I had to work, I wished I could do it all differently.  My son has seen pictures and home videos of me hold him in my lap and reading to him and he can't believe I used to do that.  I allowed my work to take priority.  I can't go back and undue the past, but I've learned from my mistakes and working hard to correct things now.

So what is it that you do that you're so successful at, & how much do you make? (nm)

Maybe if you're fast and make 9 cpl

The way I figured it, to make $60k a year at 40 hours a week you have to type at least 300 lph and make 9 cpl.   Not many 9 cpl offers these days and only experienced, long-term MTs can do 300 lph on a regular basis.

Bet they didn't put that in the ad.

A lot of us here still don't make $10 an hour. You're lucky. nm

Make sure there aren't other taxes that you're overlooking.

Some communities/counties have occupational privilege tax, 911 tax. Some sales require you to collect a sales tax on your service. The best advice is to check with a tax preparer AND visit your state's revenue website to make sure you're not missing anything.

You're welcome! Start dealing with some lawyers, and they make MQ look nice!

Make you request. The worse they can say is NO. I doubt they would say, NO and you're fired.

Well, ya can't make $50k a year unless you're willing to give up your life and be chained to S

you PC 12+ hours a day.  I can't recommend any particular school as I didn't go to one of the "online" schools.  I learned in an actual classroom which I recommend over any of these online schools.  Another thing I recommend is working in an office for at least six months, but more like a year, because there is a gigantic learning curve once you actually get a job.  There are just things that schools can't or don't teach, things that can only be learned on the job from other MTs who have been doing it longer than you.

Don't get me wrong.  It's great to be able to work from home.  Personally, I don't think newbies should be allowed to work at home right out of the gait.  There is some much they don't know.  They need help.  They need to be able to ask questions and one of the best things about working in the office as a newbie, is being able to ask the seasoned MT next to you to listen to something for you.

Having said all that, I think MT is slowly dying.  It's become difficult to make a decent living in this profession.  I'm one of the few lucky ones.  I work at-home for a hospital.  I get paid hourly, get incentive, and have all the benefits of being a FT employee.  Oh, and they can't take my benefits away if I don't make my quota.

You can't support a family on 7 or 8 cpl or even 9 cpl when the dictation is the crap they won't send to India.  I would suggest finding another profession.  The trend in medical coding is that all coders will be working from home soon what with everyone going to the Electronic Medical Record.  I would go into coding.  You may end up working in the office for a while, but I don't see coding being outsourced to India any time soon.

Good Luck.

You're likely to make more money on the lower rate because easier to understand and can probably
faster and need less time to look things up, etc. Just my 2 cents.

These people should be ashamed of themselves taking advantage of people this way!
And is QA allowed to let her know
about these errors? Or is the company afraid she'll be offended if errors are pointed out? Some people get very upset when they are corrected, so I always wonder if anybody has the courage to pass on corrections to good producers who might go elsewhere if they get offended.
And is QA allowed to let her know...

I've been reading with much interest all the debate going on about QA but this particular post really caught my eye.

As a former MT/supervisor/QA employee in a major MTSO and having differences in the amount of MT training of my staff, which would determine how I would mark a QA error, I also used the "how would I feel" quotient.  Were the remarks I might make be taken the wrong way; after all, I was just trying to "educate!"

I still feel passionately that all employees, MTs and all, should be treated fairly and with dignity without taking into account whether a person might or might not leave.  In today's MT market, sometimes we "step on toes" because we're human, but I would like to think that most MTs just continue to love what they're doing---even in the bad times.  When compassion and yes sheer joy for the job dissipates, then it's time to move on!

This is not allowed at our school.

They used to have volunteers, but these volunteers were given assignments in various areas.  Now the parents have to drop the kids off outside and drive on.  If a parent needs to come inside, he goes to the office, not to the student's room.

Not allowed at our schools either. sm

You can volunteer and go in and do reading with the kids, etc., but all visitors need to check in with the office and any "in class" volunteering needs to be approved by the teacher and the principal.

I have found this a good thing in light of the world changing.  Fathers have shown up in the past to get their child when a protection order had been filed and they were not allowed to have unsupervised visitation. Of course the mom would forget to inform the school and the kids would always run to daddy.

I have one child left in the elementary school, my older two have graduated and one will be a freshman in high school starting day after tomorrow. (Yay! can't wait to see that bus! :)) I have seen a lot of changes, both with parents and with policies.  The staff at the elementary school know me by name, but I would never dream of picking up my child without checking with the office first.  Every time I check in, the office staff says, "Oh hi!  Go on up to the classroom."  I still check in after 18 years.

These parents that interfere should be told to sign up for when volunteer help is needed in the classroom or other areas of the school. And only then.  They need to stay out of it.  If they're so worried about "little Bobby" and have so much time on their hands, they should home school and leave the teachers to do what they do best. I've been through 25 elementary school teachers and only had a problem with one who was finally fired.

No way is my dog allowed in my office.

I'm working in here, not entertaining my pet.  I love him to death, but this is my workplace, not a hangout for my dog, my cats or my kids.

But I know what you mean.  I miss my pup when I'm working.  It was just too hard to deal with so he was banished from my office along with the 2 cats.  Too much fur on the carpet for one thing and, like you, every time I got up, my dog thought it was time to play or go for a walk.

My only other suggestion is a "porta potty"?

You are not allowed to work
more than 40 hours in a week; Sunday through Saturday; that is considered overtime and they will not pay you for overtime; you will get a WARNING.

If you work 40.5 hours one week and 39.5 hours the next, which equals 80 hours for the pay period, you are over and that is a NO NO.

Gladly would add a little here and there but you cannot without permission and after 40 hours for the week we are wiped out from switching from account to account to account, etc., etc.
No cherrypicking allowed here, but....

I know some reports do get shot back into the pool now and then.  Luckily for me, they're nearly always LONG reports by my favorite dictators (ESLs are my specialty), so I don't complain at all.   However, the rule here, which is hard to enforce, is that any skipped jobs or cherrypicking is grounds for being severely chastised for the first offense and immediate termination for the second.

IMO, why not just type it and be done with it????   Doing that takes less time than anything else, and time is $.

Are you allowed to work outside your sm
schedule to get in your line count if you can't get it done in 8 hours or do you automatically lose your benefits?
Sorry - did not realize I was not allowed to do that. Really, sorry..nm

My cats were allowed outside until...
I got tired of all the medical bills due to things they were picking up from other animals that were outside and were not being taken care of. The last straw was the last episode of worms, which were roundworms. Having kids, I cannot take the chance of them getting sick due to this. Also, I had a stray cat I fed all the time and took care of because the neighbor just left it when she moved, not to mention the fact that she didn't care for it while she lived there. We were moving and found someone who would take the cat, but only if he was fixed. We were going to fix him, but noticed his glands were very swollen. Turns out he had feline leukemia. I put him down, cried the whole time, and came home and buried him by myself while the kids were gone. I was soooooo angry. While my cats have their shots, that is a chance I am not willing to take. I have had my oldest cat for 11 years now and he is like a kid to me. I am very much for animal rights and go above and beyond to help animals in need, much to my husband's dismay, but there are times when not letting your animals outside is justified. My dogs are inside/outside dogs, but they cannot get over the fence....the cats can.
Venting is allowed. :o}
You go right ahead. I had a sweet ESL lady today. I actually liked her accent because she at least said all the syllables for me, but I could tell she was putting in an extra effort with certain words to help. It was so sweet of her. Wish the spanish accent dictators would do that for me, LOL.

US should have never allowed it in the first place
for our records to be handled outside of the US. I think the terrorism thing is everywhere; as another poster said, we have had them here. This issue is about the US taking money out of our hands, then expecting us to work for beans AND improve a failing economy? Impossible. Hopefully at some point the people who can do anything about outsourcing (government) will realize this and bring MT and many other industries back where they belong.
is b.i.d. allowed anymore? sm
I'm not trying to be a smart a@@ but that BOS has me nuts, I thought they only allowed once a day, twice a day, etc., I'm confused. Do all companies go by the BOS or do they allow verbatim?
Where I work, we are not allowed to put
in patient names, but we do put in relatives' names. Sometimes it is important to know which relative is POA, contact, etc. and those are included.
When I first started we were not allowed
to put Expanders on their equipment. We were told it was grounds for termination. Not too long after they put expanders programs into all their computers. They realized that the work could get done faster with expanders. If they don't want you to use them DON'T. Let's see how long it will last when they are not getting their reports back fast enough.
