Does anyone out there work for Medquist as QA/Editor (editing transcriptions)?  If so, can you tell me what the per hour line count requirement is for you?

Also, anyone from any other company who works as QA/Editor. Can you tell me what your line count requirement is?

I was wondering if anyone has ever purchased DSL from an online company.  My phone company charges waaaaay toooo muuuuch.  I see commercials all the time for $9.95 and 14.95.  Is this for real?  Any info would be appreciated. 

Good day everybody...I am on a rush and interested on buying a set of classified voice files, all body system for practice transcription but I can not find sites where to buy them.  I will appreciate it a lot if somebody could give me at least an idea where to find the complete set of course on a cheaper price. I am referencing an old Ann Landers column which stuck in my head over the years. 

A guy writes in and states he is 40 years old and would like to go back to law school to finish it up but in 4 years' time, he will be 44.  

Ann Landers replies: "How old will you be in 4 years if you DON'T go back to law school?  You might as well be a lawyer, too!"

So, I say to you the same thing.  You may as well be a nurse in four years as well as four years older.  And you won't be stuck in MTville forever.

self-proclamed freelance writer for a while low. I have quite a few topics I am working on, Christian-based, geared towards women.  I had to write a letter stating my credentials (I have a few, believe it or not), future topics, experience, etc.  I feel very positive about my letter. It took all day to write.

I just pray this pans out.  I eventually want to write a book. That's been a life-long dream. I love to write. I've avidly kept a journal for over 25 years, keep an on-line blog, read every day, and writing just comes naturally for me.  Also, I outlined my editing experience, so hopefully that will help!

Is or has anyone worked on the platform of virtual transcription?  I know it requires a different wavpedal than I currently have, but other than that I know nothing about it and have not been successful in finding out anything before I start.  Can anyone give me a heads up?

We have tried a few different ways.  My son who is currently in 5th grade was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome/high-functioning autism.  The public schools cannot seem to work with him.  We have done the traditional homeschooling route, which has its pros and cons.  There are several virtual schools around now, public schooling, but done at home by the parents, check out www.k12.com to see the options in the different states.  We attended one in Pennsylvania for 2 years and are going to be in the Florida one this year.  My son loves the curriculum.  Good luck!

DH just took me to my favorite beach for a quick vacation.   It is Shell Island in NC (basically Wrightsville Beach, but the end at Mason Inlet)

We arrived at Shell Island resort and discovered our room was on the 9th (top) floor.  PERFECT!  The dogs were staying with the in-laws in nearby Wilmington, so no worries there.

The temperature on Thursday was 82 degrees.  The water was 81 degrees.   People were few.  We walked down to the inlet, where the surf is all disorganized with no crashing waves.  The water stays shallow for a long way out, only knee deep to waist deep.  I floated out there, often walking along on my hands, with the swirling water gently pushing me this way and that.   Seagulls called to us.  Pelicans did their gliding flight just inches above the water. 

After our ocean swim we got in the pool.  Then we laid out on the chaise lounge chairs to dry.  The ocean breeze gently buffeted us in a lazy fashion until we were nearly dry and went in.

We went back to the room and I sorted my shells out on a table on the deck.  Seagulls came by to try to entice me to throw food.  Now and then, pelicans in V formation would glide right by me, so close I could have reached out and touched the feathers of the nearest member. 

We went out to The Oceanic restaurant.  I had the Oceanic Platter with broiled fish, fabulous scallops, shrimp, and a crab cake that rivaled those in Baltimore.   It was all fabulous.

I had a fabulous time.   Vacations are good. 

Has anyone done this?  It looks good....but I need to know before I spend the money.

You could do all kinds of stuff (do a Google search under virtual assistant, there are some webpages that explain stuff).  U-Haul I believe also hires people to do phone customer service from home.  If you look on guru . com they have people who advertise for odd jobs and lots of them are virtual assistant kind of stuff.

Just some ideas.  You could also do daycare, pampered chef, that kind of stuff.  :)

You can get an idea in the difference using documents you have already created, assuming you're working in Word. Simply open a document and check the properties. Click on the statistics tab and you will see the number of lines as well as characters with and without spaces. If you're currently getting paid by the line and a line is 65-characters with spaces, do the math and see how that number of lines compares with the number of lines in your stats.

One thing to keep in mind: if you have a blank line between paragraphs, instead of hitting the enter key twice, format your document to give the appearance of blank lines between paragraphs.

A gross line is anything on a line versus 65 gross characters per net line the other way.  You make more money working for the gross line than for the 65 gross character line, as long as the line rate's OK.

at SBC, told him what I was using the service for, and got the okay to use it -- $49/month unlimited. 

I have also used The Neighborhood, and their unlimited is truly unlimited.  I also explained to them when I signed up what I was using it for and their comment was "unlimited means just that -- unlimited, no matter what."  I cannot remember how much they were, but it might be worth checking into for you.  (www.theneighborhood.com)
