It's gonna take more than one person to change things. Until all American MTs realize the damage

things will keep going downhill.  We need to all write letters, inform people, push for legislation that will prevent American patients' protected medical data from being offshored.  We need to boycott any MTSOs that offshore and we should not accept peanuts for our skills.

That's what it will take, but with MTs like you who call us whiners for voicing our frustrations, concerns, and opinions and who sit around doing nothing, we will all lose.

Mine was an American with no accent, but I just realize I seem to react (SM)
to these horrible dictations the same way I do to jumping into an ice cold pond. I hold my breath and try to type as fast as I can, then go back and see if I can clean it up. Just hope they aren't too long so I don't turn blue while I am typing.
This message is defining what VBC is! It's time people realize the American MTs...
are our own worst enemies.  VBC is NOT a good thing!  I personally think we should get paid per keystroke.
Sorry, didn't realize I used same name - different QA person here
xx
Never, not gonna happen, I'm the early morning person
who always gets up for nothing when there's no work.
Oh, sorry then. I didn't realize that the only person allowed
Get over yourself. You're no peach either, hon.
It SHOULD TAKE FOREVER if the person is doing nothing but AMERICAN

dictators and YOU ARE DOING THE OTHER WORK THAT IS LEFT OVER.  FOREVER IS A LONG TIME.

CONSIDER THIS:  Your source and your manager don't like you and are going to let you stew by feeding you information about this Indian person doing all the easy work and letting you pick up the crummy work done by Indian dictators.  And as long as you keep doing this, they have no motivation to change and the Indian MT walks away with your money.

Have a nice day indeed.  Sounds like you have had a rotten couple of months and you are wasting your have a nice day on me.  I'm doing great dictation, picked up a huge bonus this pay period.  Don't waste wishing nice days on me.   I make my own thank you.

Get out while you can. Things will *never* change unless you change them. (nt)

You need to change the way you look at things
You need to try really hard to find 1 good thing a day that that worked out well. Each night sit down and find 1 thing to focus on that went well. Each night do this and slowly try and change your attitude. You need to enlarge your vision. If you get a chance read the book by Joel Osteen, Your Best Life Now.
Very good book about life.
Things do change, and sometimes

You cannot always listen to what people say.  And in saying that, you don't have to listen to me.  But, I wanted to respond to your post and let you know that I am a Focus IC and I am having a very good experience.  I know that in the past some negative things have been said about Focus, but most of the MT companies have that reputation.  One poster or another will say negative things about a company for one reason or another.  This does not dictate what your particular experience will be.

I do not get hounded by IM's as the other poster mentioned.  I always, always have work.  Have not run out once.  If I have a question or a problem I can email, call, or IM any number of people from Human Resources to my Supervisor to Tech. Support to QA and I always get a response.

The other poster may or may not have worked for Focus Infomatics in the past.  I don't know.  And if they did, they may have had a bad experience with them.  But, that can happen to anyone at any company.  I'm just giving you my take so you won't think that EVERYONE thinks you are making a big mistake.  I, for one, think you made a good choice.

Good luck.

Things can never change if you don't want them to.
I think we all have a pretty good idea of who wants things to get better, and who wants them to remain as they are.
Things change
This may sound optimistic in a failing economy and MT being as difficult as it is at times but I still think good MTs are hard to find and will always be in demand.

You talk about going back to school to study MT. Why don't you just take a local medical terminology class. It sounds like you know how to transcribe well have have a good handle on grammar. You are half way to becoming an MT already. All you need is some medical terminology.

Then just apply. Tell the recruiters/HR you've studied medical terminology and want to do clinic notes. Then take any job you can for experience, preferably locally.

Some might say this advice is absurd but with education costs the way they are and loans being hard to get, you might find employers dropping the bar. Years ago most MTs didn't have any experience or education at all other than a high school typing class.

Don't give up hope. Just try approaching the whole thing from a different angle. Good Luck.

Among other things that need to change,
MTSO's need to get stand their ground and RAISE THEIR PRICES. All this undercutting has hurt everyone, and cheapened what used to be a respectable profession. Now it's just sweatshop labor, hidden from view of the nation because its home workers are invisible.
If we don't do something to change things,
we're gonna lose the jobs anyway. Fighting back is the only way we'll manage to keep any of it in the U.S. And if we're gonna go down anyway, I for one would rather go down fighting, than just lie down and take it.
The only way to change things it to take that first step
nm
Going to college does not change things
overall.  Some choose to go, some don't.  Just because you go to college does not mean you will make more money or your life will be better.  My husband is a CPA; however, works for a retirement corporation and guess what, after his 5 years of college and sitting through the CPA exam, I still make a lot more than he does.  Another friend is a nurse working at a surgery center, and I still make more.  Going to college is a choice but don't make the insinuation that going to college will make your life any better as it is just not true.
I think you need to ask the person who offered you the job these things.
I asked as many questions as I could and did a lot of research before I took the job with them. They seem willing to answer whatever you need to know. Better to ask than not know. Good luck.
Yes, I realize Doris is a person. Is Doris and

Even 4.5 is too low. doctors do not change - they still hem and haw, change, change stuff along wit
It is just not enough for the work. Speech is great on the wrists but you are not just reading what is typed, you are making a lot of changes. I have a hard time doubling a lot of days with all the changes I have to make. Just my opinion.
sorry, don't think it's either new or damage control

Floor damage
I know a lady who sold flooring for years.  She advised me never to use rugs with rubber backing on vinyl (sp?) floors for just this reason.  We never went into how to repair the damage if it happened, though.  You might try calling someplace that sells and installs floors.
he underestimated the damage it

No one thought it would actually be this bad.  I'm shocked at what i'm seeing on the news.  When they said it was coming, I thought they were for the most part blowing smoke.  I never knew people could just be left to die like this in the U.S.  Its hard to comprehend in this day and age and country, that WE could be wiped out by a natural  distaster.

She was just trying to do damage control (for herself of course)
and you're right - she was told to leave, she didn't leave on her own volition. She just wanted to make it look that way to save face.
Wow! This REEKS of damage control!

What kind of damage that far in? I am not really worried about
the house falling in on us. The only thing that reall concerns me is the possibility of tornadoes. When Alicia came through, she was only a 3, but she had around 30 tornadoes. That is what concerns me.
No Ernesto damage or evacuation here either!

Whew!  Another close call.    Today is a beautiful, sunny (and muggy) day!

Wishing those in the Carolinas the same good fortune

What kind of water damage is what I would like to know sm..
Was it leaking from basement walls into basement or did someone leave water running and cause a flood, or was it sewer backup, or what is a natural flood?  Any kind of water damage really stinks!!  We had the unfortunate situation happen to us years ago when their was flooding all around us, but we did fine, that is, until the sewer system backed up into our basement about 4 feet high!  This was so gross, I don't think I'll ever get over it, however, we had it professionally cleaned and disinfected and threw EVERYTHING out, so hopefully that solved any health issues, so we are told.  Anyway, we invested $600 into a backup valve so that it will never happen again.  I have wanted to move ever since just because it was so gross and I can't get the image out of my head, but 4 years later, we are still here, kids and all.  So, the moral of the story I am trying to get at is this....they were supposed to be upfront and honest about the water damage problem and they were not, which leads me to believe that they have something to hide.  Therefore, you should potentially be able to get any money back because of this if you can prove that it was withheld information on the contract.  If you just love the house that much, go ahead with the inspection and find out what kind of water damage it was.  If it checks out with inspector, I would strongly suggest you have it professionally cleaned/disinfected to be safe, and expect it to maybe happen again and consider that thoroughly.  Personally, if we ever go to sell this house, I will be up front about it because even though we seemed to have fixed the problem, it is very possible it can happen again.  Hope this all makes sense.  Good luck.
Yes, there seems to be a tremendous amount of damage control on her lately by MQ. What is going on
and they are just as nasty as my office has been becoming lately with everyone worrying about their jobs now that our accounts have been switched to the NE region out of the local office.
Ah, Jeez Louise, damage control again (sm)

Psychology 101, name calling will get you no where.

Don't change. I had to change back to cable. SuddenLink DSL stinks! nm

mostly trees limbs causing damage by falling on wires and rooftops

much minor roof damage and blew signs down around in those towns, enough to tell there was a storm, but NOTHING like further south!

he is not American on what was an American site
What we post, jobs posted, and those who are posting jobs have no way of knowing it is off shore because he is hiding it - what a great way to get more of our jobs - not sure why this does not bother you. But as an American it bothers me

Well if I'm gonna dream I'm gonna dream big! hehe

Change provider vs change to business plan

In your place, I would seriously consider changing providers if there were others available in your area, but I'd ask around about their service quality first.  It may not be any better.  If there are no other providers, then consider changing your service package to a business account rather than residential.  They're usually more expensive, but they also tend to get faster service if there's a problem.

Last summer, I had no electricity for 3 days due to severe storms, but there were some 600,000 in the same boat with me.  We just had to wait it out.  It's a downside of working at home.

I work for the person. I know. Very excellent person, personally and business-sense.
It is an INSULT to have QA hovering over seasoned MTs who know what they are doing. She trusts her MTs and again if there are questions there is one person, a trainer, who can answer them via phone, e-mail or instant message or you can send the whole report to them if you choose.
Point was is the person willing to make up for the slack of the person who types 1 job when there is

if that is all they WANT to type.   Is the person who wants to be a supervisor willing to make up for those people?

You have crap supervisors, editors and mts in the business like you have good ones.   Sadly, the really good ones of all of them are few and far between.

change attitude, change life
The first thing you need to change is that defeatist attitude! I know that's hard at times like this, but that's when you need to most.
I won't go into detail, but my financial situation is also at an all-time low, we couldn't even exchange gifts., daughter in hospital twice, & no med insurance)..but then I heard about how much worse things were for others around me this season. Now I'm thankful instead!
When you have a QA person that is picky and another QA person that is very lenient where does that
leave the MTs because some are getting a lenient reviewer and others are getting one that picks at everything. How do you reconcile that issue with the difference in QA mentality. Some people make out well and the other people could be just as good but dont. I wonder about that.
The person MTSO pays is the person who

Bad things? what bad things? people's being petty and small?

Okay, I'm gonna try to help

First, you can't be all things to all people.  Not meaning to sound nasty or hateful, but with 3 kids under 5, you can't possibly do a good job either as a mother or as an employee.  With 1 kid under 5, possibly; with 2 under 5 maybe, but 3, no way, no how.  I know this because I raised 4.  1 was okay, 2 would be okay but you add the 3rd one (any 3rd one) and POW.  Constant.."he hit me....well SHE hit me first....I hit him because he looked at me,"  I'm sure you know the drill.  If you don't know what I mean yet because of their age, trust me, you will.

You can have the best of both worlds though.  Either hire someone to come in while you are working or put those babies in daycare during your working hours.  You will be there when they need you and you have the flexibility to attend school functions, take an afternoon off to spend with them and just take them to the park, etc. etc.  Plus you can devote full attention to your job during those hours.....well, as much as anyone can, since the majority of people who aren't in the know think we stay home and some nice company just sends us a paycheck every couple of weeks because they like us. And they want to "work"for the same company we "work" for.  :)

Just to add a funny, I moved once to another state and later learned that thenew neighbors were gossiping behind my back, they KNEW I was having an affair with the UPS driver because he came to my house at the same time every day. hahahaha

Now I'm sure there are going to be mom's who say you CAN do your job with the kids.  I say that if you wouldn't consider taking your very young children to the office and do your job, don't expect to do at home what you can't do at the office.  Adding to your stress at home, who stops and fixes lunches?  Who stops and changes diapers?  Who settles arguments?  dtc. etc. etc.

I told someone before you could work with children underfoot and I'm sure someone will remind me of that so I'll go ahead and explain.  I said you could work with the kids underfoot and you can.....provided you have some help.  Even with help, as the Head MOM you'd still have plenty of interruptions but it wouldn't be continuous.

What's she gonna do if U don't have one?

Call the Spelling Squad on U?

911, this is an emergency...I have an MT who....

Definitely gonna try that!! Hungry already!

OK. I'm gonna go for it. I still have the book, so
I'm going to read it again thoroughly and then start after I've finished it.  I remember how great I felt and I also remember my BP going down.  This time I have to stick with it though.  I noticed on their web site that they now have classes and chat rooms, so that should help, too.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.  If you have any more hints or input about it, please feel free to clue me in.  Thanks again!
Heres-a-what-i'm-gonna do
I just went to the bank and took out enough money to last me a week away from home.  I am leaving tomorrow - pills in hand - just enough OxyContin to wean the way someone suggested and enough other stuff to help with the withdrawals - phenergan and xanax - plus my blood pressure medicine, as it tends to go up if I wait too long between the OxyContin pills.  I am going to drive to a place about 2 hours from my home and check into a motel - it is right next to a large teaching hospital - so if I get in trouble - I will have a place to go.  This is all hurting me and my family so much that the only way I can do it is to do it without them.  They won't miss me for at least 3 hours and by that time I will be settled in and ready for the fight.  I will post again to let you all know how it goes.  Thanks for everyones input and help - I really appreciate it.  Hopefully by next week I will be able to think clearer and be able to remember what happened five minutes before.  Thanks to you all.
Think I am gonna throw up! ugh! nm
