In Reply to: FEMA will give $2000 to each displaced family IF - Preposterous!

Red Cross and FEMA are only providing financial relief to "approved" shelters.  In other words if some of the families are being sheltered by faith-based organizations or individual families referred to by faith-based organizations, the victims only get financial help if these organizations are authorized by FEMA.  The authorization process could take up to 60 days.   That means the churches or the families who opened their homes will have to foot the bill with no federal financial assistance to anyone not approved.

Senator Vitter was saying yesterday on TV that FEMA is just taking the homeless from the federally-sponsored shelters and dropping them off at the doors of the churches.  He said that yesterday on MSNBC they dropped off 15 or more special needs victims at churches who needed 24-hour medical care, but yet provided them with nothing because the churches they dropped them off at were not "authorized" to receive FEMA financial assistance.  No medications, no nursing help, not even beds.  Some of them were sleeping on the floor.
