just an observation...pls sm
There are some genuinely UGLY people in this world.  I think working at home, not being out in the "real world" a lot kind of makes one forget how truly rude and obnoxious people can be.  And then we come to a place like this for support, to chat, post sometimes senseless messages, and what do we get... is what we get...it's so sad. Where are all the nice people, people who care about other people.  They certainly aren't here... (jumping off now)
Observation, sm
Be careful, very, very careful. You might see your post disappear before long.

It's sad that so many are allowed to call each other "hag", "bi$ch", etc., on this board. They're allowed to tell each other to "get a life", "shut up", "look it up yourself", etc. But, if you post something like this, it gets wiped away. No explanation given.

We have come to expect to get cut off in traffic, to have the teenage yahoo flip us the bird, know for a fact the MIL is gonna give us heck, but here I always expected a certain degree of decency. That is no more.

Thanks for your attempt to speak out, at any rate. Btw, there are still a few of us out here who remember and practice the old way, the right way (?) to communicate with other members of our profession.
my observation
I can sure relate to what you are saying. But i think there are plenty of nice people here -- reading --- but not posting as much as others, just picking their spots or responding by private e/m, for the reasons you stated.

you just have to act like a duck, and let it run off your back (not easy, i know).

words to a song come to mind -- i know some of you will recognize it -- "this world is not my home, i'm just a passin' through...."
Just an observation...

I was noticing in looking at posts of folks who need word help that often they are stumped by the most BASIC words.  Sometimes I notice that words within the posts that the poster DOES know are even misspelled.  Don't mean to bash here, but how are these people qualified to do medical transcription?  Could this possibly be contributing to the decline in pay we are seeing?  Shouldn't QA be telling these folks to work in-house somewhere for more training?

I remember when I first started I thought the dictator was saying "AT&T" when he was actually saying HEENT.  That's how green I was!!  That was 15 years ago and I worked for FOUR YEARS in-house full time before I tried ANYTHING at home.

Just an observation....

The religion thread was removed completely even though she was not trying to debate anything, only asking for opinions about what church to try WHILE the depression thread about the loss of her father (which incidentally I think should stay too) was not touched even though there is also a board for depression.  Just curious as to why religion is such an offensive thing to people in general these days?  This is the main board where people discuss all sorts of things.

Just an observation
flames only mean that more than 200 people have read your post. The people responding to your post have no control over whether or not you get a flame.
just an observation, but I don't believe that lady had PPD
I believe she was psychotic. It's hard to second guess a diagnosis, but as I remember she had been ill for some time; her problem was not really post-partum depression. Does anyone else remember the details of this?
Good observation
I met a man who, during our brief acquaintance, told me he began paying the AOL bill for a woman friend of his. During that time, he called AOL and since he owned the account, changed her password to enter under her name. He then proceeded to read all emails and essentially became here. It was at that point I decided the man was a crazy person. Anyone who goes to such lengths is crazy. Going into your computer without your permission is likely to go into your purse or personal papers. They just are not thinking right.

Be persistent and do not do face to face confrontationj with this man. I'd hire an atty and have any correspondence come from teh atty. The more people involved the better. Eventually, he should feel diminished and move on.

Good luck.
Just an observation, but is there some kind of
has to stink?  I have satellite....over 300 channels.  Something like 30 movie channels and can't find anything worth watching.  I know it's a silly post, I was just thinking out loud I guess.
But will make an observation
I'm sure he is the doctor and you are only supposed to type the report, not determine if the treatment he gave is proper or not. I don't think we are doctors.
CMT re-cert observation

Am I missing something?  It's cheaper for me to redo the test from scratch than to buy the recertification/educational materials.

Just a personal observation...
But are you as dissatisifed and miserable with your personal life as you seem to be with the MT profession?

You seem to go out of your way to spew negativity at even the most benign of posts.

I find myself sitting here and shaking my head at your posts. hoping that SOMETHING in your life pleases you or brings a smile to your face.

If you're as unpleasant IRL as you appear to be on these boards, I truly feel sorry for you.

I hope things start improving in both your personal and professional life, as you are quite frankly becoming just a dark cloud soon to be ignored and avoided by anyone stumbling across your animosity-filled posts.
Don't have an attitude. Just making an observation.
If you want to move on to something else that's great because not everybody can do that. I've done that in the past. Used to be a nurse and moved to transcription. The money's better and I have more freedom for other things. I just thought from reading your posts that you were very happy with your job and I just found it amusing that you were in the process of changing careers. Hope you do well in medical school.
to just an observation (NICE reply)

My 17 y/o just cringes when I share some of these threads..she calls it reality keyboarding...nothing left unsaid..like one tries to out do the other with cynical, spiteful, namecalling...back to K teens call it these days, I interpret that as a bunch of 5 y/o's namecalling on the playground.

Yes, there are still many of us that do not engage in the need to try to make ourselves look better by bashing others, but somehow those tend to get the attention.

my observation on some recent posts

there is the thread about podiatry, posts about companies, posts about cherry picking,  ESLs taking over, this company is the best.     How many hundreds of us are on these boards???   Its a good thing we are all individuals - and there is so much work out there because one type of person could not do all the types of work.  Not everyone wants to work for big corporation  - not everyone wants to run their own MT service.

Some of us hate short little clinic notes, some hate long operative reports.  Some love radiology, others want to type IMEs. Never work for a company that IMs you all day vs  this company never gives feedback.

Where I  recently worked - we always used to leave behind certain reports for the late shift person, stuff we all thought she loved until one day she complained - how come I HAVE TO DO ALL the _____ studies..  Its kinda funny- you might think someone is cherrypicking all the CT's and they think they are doing you a favor by leaving short reports.

Of course NO ONE likes the really awful individual dictators, whether it is ESL or chewers, the accounts that have a million details or QA that keeps changing. I think most of us know you have to take some bad with the good and when you TRY to do the tuff stuff, the good stuff becomes easier.

So  when someone comes to vent - cut them some slack - who cares about typos here - we all know that when we are working, we use our spellchecks and pay attention to details.

When I take time to answer on this board, it is never with judgement - I always try to say "in MY experience, psych reports are bad because ..."  or when I worked for  XYZ company, they did not count lines correctly.  You cannot make generalities about  a profession as varied as this one.

I come here for information AND entertainment - it does take a certain type of person to do this work -  that has nothing to do with the skills involved - and I think we share an understanding of each other, even as we argue over everything.    We all saw a part of ourselves in the recently posted "You Might Be a Transcriptionist If..." and we all laughed as we shook our heads.

Sad to say I am about to make the decision to try a career change - I cannot push myself anymore (after almost 30 years) to produce enough lines to make the money I need - thats not to say it can't be done these days, just that I don't want to/can't  work that hard anymore.

just an observation about this "as they are about animals" poster
She uses "thang" and "ya" just like Kikki. Just wondering if she's baaaaack . . .
hmmmmm. Good observation, Michael, please explain.
 What's the deal????
This is an important observation. The team spirit is hard to sustain
when it is a free for all. Yes, getting a decent paycheck is important. No one knows that better than me. But, have a relaxing enjoyable day on the job would be a real nice change.

When we were paid by the hour, prior to line counts, it was sure nice.

I wonder what occurs in India regarding this situation. I wonder if they have the same issues as the American MTs. Even in Canada, being a different country, I wonder if ethics and working as a team is stressed. In each job I have had in the last 10 years, being a part of "the team" has been stressed over and over, but this doesn't seem like good sportsmanship.

I would like to say to management that if this is the approach, why not say to the MTs that they can go in and type at any time they would like. It would then be understood and acceptable and we would all go that route. Rather than feeling somewhat unsettled by the fact that I now have to sit with no work for two hours because an MT has worked off her schedule.
