First of all, I'm paid quite a bit more than 3 cpl to edit. I feel sorry for the OP having to settle for that. VR pay should be about half what straight transcription pay is; 3 cpl per edit is tantamount to getting a ridiculous 6 cpl for transcription, so somebody's low-balling the wages to the MTs at that place.

Secondly, once you get used to editing and learn all of the short-cuts, it's possible to up the speed to 200%, conceivably meaning on a relatively 'clean' report, you can go through it at double-time (i.e., edit thru a 10-minute report in 5 minutes unless there's a ton of clean-up needed which doesn't happen often - but does happen occasionally - on the accounts I've worked).

As far as ESL dictators go, IMHO VR is heaven-sent! For some inexplicable reason, VR interprets these dictators much better than the average human ear ever could. I can breeze through editing an ESL report that I have no doubt I would struggle with in regular transcription. After editing several reports dictated by a heavy ESL dictator, I know their inflection, their particular accent, etc., because of the visual aid of the VR program.

The only thing VR won't improve is the ones who send through a lengthy report during which they're shuffling papers, eating or generally piddling around and wasting the MTs time. As far as I know, other than speeding up to full throttle, there's no 'cure' for that particular annoyance yet.

Without giving specifics, I net about $25-30/hour editing, and my wrists are very thankful for the rest.

 Hope that helps :-)
