I am a newer member and was shocked at the typo I found in the current issue of JAAMT. Maybe they hire editors?? Their actual full page ad for AAMT continues the above typo in my subject line. We should join their passionate group, as they will connect us to all the tools necessary for our PROFESIONAL growth. Oh my!  I am a freak about typos in documents, and that just is too much. Tossed that issue in the trash.

Advancement in MT field
I began working in this field in 2000. I stayed with one company for 6 years. During those years I advanced from ER work to acute care, promoted to quality assurance, and then to supervisor's assistant. Unfortunately, 3 months after I accepted the supervisor's assistant position, the company made cutbacks and my position was eliminated. They requested I accept a pay cut along with my demotion. I left the company and was hired by another company as an MT, with a promise that I would be considered for editing in the near future. I have been with this new company for 2 years. During this time no positions have ever been advertised but at least 5 girls have been promoted to QA during this time period. I know of at least 2 other girls who have also expressed an interest in editing and yet we all been passed over, not even allowed to apply for the position.

For anyone who has achieved a supervisor position within this field, could you offer some suggestions on how to start climbing the ladder again? Which companies do promote? What type of experience is needed?

Thank you so much!!

"Excellent MT Career Advancement Opportunities"
... yeah right. Anybody seen the article in AAMT's Plexus?
The article portrays career opportunities for the MT which includes editor, QA, supervisor, yada, yada, yada. These jobs are portrayed as "advancements" but no where does it address the pay compensation or lack of. From what I see in this forum the pay seems to be low considering the fund of knowledge and experience needed for being an Editor or QA specialist. The one thing I note is that the article does clearly recognize that need to have mastered transcription BEFORE being a QA specialist. Seeing what I see here on this forum it seems many QA people don't fit the bill. Not bashing those quality QA's that are out there, but think it's the company's poor management that don't recognize what is needed for QA.
Might be growth not losing MTs. xx

No growth hormone, antibiotics or other drugs are used.
No animal cruelty. Completely organic beef, chicken and pork. It's cheaper and better quality than at the grocery stores. If you buy locally, you're keeping your dollars in the local economy instead of further lining the pockets of the Walmart owners and CEOs. We buy our vegetables and fruit from local vendors at roadside stands or farmer's market, too. (Those that I don't grow myself.)
Growth could also be true. MQ has lost a lot of accounts, as have a few of the sm
biggies.
Well, falling rates of wage growth and rising inflation SM
probably have something to do with it. The rate of wage growth has been falling for the past several years, and rising prices are currently more than wiping out whatever "gain" most of us have the notion we've made.

Also, when Rush points out that he and others in the richest 1% pay more than 40% of the taxes, that's NOT good. That appalling division of wealth helps explain why with all the productivity gains in our wealthy country over the past several decades, most of us are seeing our incomes stagnate or even decrease over that time.

We have a general election coming up, by the way.
