Floating home
Thanks for all your POSITIVE comments.  I do live in a floating home -- Tom Hanks "Sleepless in Seattle", it is a small ranch style house that sits on the water.  It is not a boat or a boathouse but just like a house but the river is my yard.  I sit at the end of one of the walkways that faces east, live in Portland, OR, and I have no one on my east and never will and so I can see Mt. Hood when sitting in my hot tub on my deck.  I watch the sun come up in the morning over the river as I get up early to do my typing -- love to type from 5:30 to 9:30 and usually start my day with a cup of coffee doing just that.   When there is a full moon is shines to my east and bounces off the river and is truly a beautiful view as well.  I have pesky raccoons that come up to the deck looking for garbage but it is still fascinating to watch.  We have river otters that play and swim in the water and seals that are beginning to steal the fish you catch from the deck.  It is a way of life and not for everyone but I fought hard to keep this throughout a nasty divorce and was able to do so.  It is a community life but most of my neighbors are closer to me than my family and lots of times more helpful.   I have been down here 11 years and though I know someday I will have to leave it will be very hard.   Cannot imagine myself in a conddo or a townhouse and not being outside 80% of my free time.  I have about 30 pots of flowers all over my deck.  I have tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers also growing outside.  My outside living space is about 450 to 500 sq feet which adds a lot.  Drawbacks are when it is raining outside you have to walk to your car -- about 1/4 of a mile from my house, it can be colder than usual on the river and in the winter you don't have as many visitors as you do in the summer.   The rest of my  summer weekends are booked up with family and friend BBQ's, etc.  But we have what we call the Christmas ships in December which are boats that decorate just like houses and they cruise the Willamette-Columbia rivers and they pass right in front of my house and so usually have at least two groups down during Christmas time.   And when I write something like this it makes me realize how luck I am and I do thank the Lord for all his help as without him this would not be possible.  Thanks again to all of you.
we are not talking about a house in the assoc. The original poster lives in a regular home.
So they cannot tell someone else what color to paint their house.

I agree with Patti. See message
Keep it simple. When I started with my own clients, I basically told them that my service would be based on what they needed from me and that is what I did. They called the shots and I did what they needed from me. I have never used a contract with clients to this day and I have multiple clients. Basically just the Business Associate Agreement required by HIPPA and the clients are happy with that. My thought was always that if the client wanted a contract, that was fine, but if they did not bring it up, I did not either. I also do tapes, print on a couple of my accounts and deliver/pickup, but most of my clients are now on my call-in system, which is much nicer, but I will not turn down tapes. Good luck with your quest and hope it works out for you.

The Red Rule means that we do not bother mama if she is working unless somebody is bleeding or the house is on fire - Red Rule. :O)

watch others feel hurt? from my computer? locked away? huh? you have clearly let your imagination run away with any powers of logic you may have had. sad.
Floating snowflakes
I just love the floating snowflakes - you don't have to shovel
Floating Toolbar
I had to try around with a few different things but I think I went to Microsoft Office Word Help and followed the directions for "create a custom toolbar"
Same boat here, same floating turds (sm)
You are not alone. What really ticks me off is to wade through one piece of crap after another and then all of a sudden you get "no job found". Someone was skimming the cream even as you were cleaning up the feces.

I hope those "prima donna transcriptionsts" eventually get what is coming to them.
Keeping small children at home will cost you more than paying a daycare ... see message
If you are really committed to working, then transcription can be beneficial. It is not a job where you can attend to your children at the same time you work, you either work or you attend to your children. You make choices.

I would recommend this career field - I make 50,000 a year working 6 hours a day. It is still good if you work it.
Naaaaaaasty lady. Bad lady. Pooh.
(pouting)
I know someone who lives (sm)
in the same neighborhood in Atlanta that Bobby and Whitney live in...they said that Whitney tried to take out a restraining order on a little girl for trying to sell her some Girl Scout cookies! It's really sad to see how far down she has gone! She used to be so beautiful and talented, now she's just a train wreck! I guess that's one reason to be glad I'm poor! Can't afford to screw myself up THAT bad! Good day, all!
Obviously these 2 have no lives
They obviously have no personal life and come here to get their jollies.  They are immature and pathetic.  No wonder they like Medquist - same mentality.
That's because most of our lives are about

My dh lives for this show!!...sm
Coffee thing was very cool.  Had cylinder type holder for separate filters.  He explained it like a gun cylinder that holds individual bullets.  Anyway, he put filters in each separate cylinder and could make individual cups of coffee, soup, tea, etc. by rotating to the right cylinder and adding water.
Yes, DH's family lives there. I would think this would be ... SM
a very good area to move to.  It is very rapidly growing, however, so if you are not into crowds, you might think about that.  They actually live in Oakwood which is just outside of Gainsville.  Hall County is supposed to have a very good school system.  Lots of shopping in the area, and I think they're building subdivisions like crazy.  It's also close enough to the north Georgia mountains that weekend getaways would be easy - or you could drive into Atlanta for special attractions.  They have recently built the Gwinnett Arena near there that has a lot of concerts, sporting events, etc., so a drive into Atlanta is not always necessary for this kind of thing.  All in all, a very nice area.
E-Bay and Days of Our Lives.
x
Yes, Days of our Lives for sure! I really
don't watch much TV, but this has been something I have followed my entire life (we both just turned 40, LOL). My granny used to watch (her "stories" she called them) and I was granny's little girl :-)

I am SOOOOOO happy to see Patch and Kayla back on the show! Now if they would just get this Bo and Hope thing straightened out. Oh wouldn't it be nice to have Kate, Billie and Chelsea miraculously disappear from Salem!?!?!?!?! Hey, a girl can wish can't she. LOL!!!!
Just how many lives do YOUR patients have?

Apparently mine have more than one because I have one dictator who likes to use the following phrase:  Patient was told that he might have death and loss of current life.

Oh please! Now its all about the $$ again. He lives in France for several reasons,
the obvious of which is his wife wants to stay in her homeland, and, secondly, he has said that the Parisians treat him like a regular guy - we all know that celebs living in the USA are stalked and their lives are chaotic trying to avoid stalkers, paparazzi, etc. He feels his children are safe there, and they are his #1 priority.  Even a lesser known actor like Gary Oldman, who has NEVER stated anything politically incorrect, had to leave the LA area in the USA because some nut case "fan" keeps threatening to kill his 2 little boys. While Gary Oldman has been quoted as saying he LOVES living in the USA compared to Britain, he's had to return to Europe because the climate for celebreties is not as crazy as it is in the USA.  Its INSANE.  They do live some of the year in the USA by his family, but he has chosen not to disclose the location or times of year. He is like one of the BIGGEST stars in the world right now - and still nuts hate him. Hmm....I saw BOTH interviews, and read the original "USA hatred" article, and he never said that. While eccentric, the man is brilliant - do you think he'd be stupid enough to say he hated the USA?  He NEVER said it, but its just the perfect example of how media manipulates things, and how some of us are naieve enough to believe it.  Boycott him all you want - its your loss, not his!
lori who? wonder what island SHE lives on - sorry for being cat-ee

not surprised  guess I should really go read the story but if no details

of this person first I wonder if she really exists and if so and if they

can't brag on her situation, why can't they?

it should have been gwendolyn gopp from Op, Alabama who has worked for MQ

for 5 years or something like that.  show a picture, show us her co-workers, show

re: a canadian MT who lives next to MAINE
I have a MT company from portland, Maine who w ants me to work for them as an IC. They offered me 7 cents per line american. WHat a freakin joke!!

I wont work for under 12 cents per line and I have been out of it for awhile (6 years!!).

See ya!!
Anyone here a Days Of Our Lives watcher?
I am soooooo frustrated at the Bo and Hope situation.  Anyone care to express their opinion!
How many MTs feel like they have control of their lives?
If you have a family and a million things to do everyday on top of your job, how do YOU keep it all together?  What works for you or what has worked for you in years past?
My best girlfriend from childhood lives sm
in Colorado Springs and absolutely loves it! She is a school principal out there. She has several friends working at home as MTs and are doing well. I know nothing about where or what though. I live in NC and she and I are both originally from Michigan.
hit your neighbor where he lives - in the wallet - sm
check out your homeowners insurance about filing a claim (especially if you have medical expenses or can't work because of the attack) - they can find out who your neighbor's insurance is and believe me his rates will go through the roof! Our dog got attacked too (their dog was just being "friendly") with vet bills, etc. We have a leash law so I filed a complaint with Animal Control and they got a fine...if it happens again the file escalates. Good luck!
My housekeeper lives off Bankhead
so I definitely know what it is called and hear it all the time, just trying to be a little politically correct here. She is one who says skrimp (for shrimp) and strap cake for cake made from scratch.

We all like different things in our lives, we small talk them here

just as we would do around the coffee pot in the office before work or on breaks.  It's too bad the someone who doesn't want to talk about a certain subject can't just walk away....like they would in the office, I'm sure.

NOW go and enjoy your night.  Steak and veggies for dinner here.

The patient lives with her parents, who are both alive and well.
I would hope they'd be alive.
Hope she lives in the north cuz if she gets in the sun and walks
across a highway it will create a grease slick from all that lard rendering.
My DD has to ask me for money, still lives with me. I moved less than a mile SM
from her college (since I work at home) for her sake, the things we do for our kids.
Hey, my daddy used to live in PP, now lives in Plantation.

I tape Days of Our Lives and can watch
it in no time. Between fast forwarding through commercials and fast forwarding through scenes where they are looking back at previous scenes I think I can watch an hour long show in about 20 minutes. LOL.

I like some of the reality shows like The Apprentice and Survivor. Oh and I LOVE The Amazing Race. Don't have much time for them though :-(
Even with taping.
Okay, lets just throw aside the fact he lives

So whatever state she lives in, lets stick together on this

Women like you are the main ones who have men leading double lives (sm)
or running around with your best friend, and you are the last one to know it. Keep your patronizing attitude. If you are in a relationship where you THINK THINK THINK you can trust your man, then that's wonderful and more power to you. But I hope you aren't headed for a fall.
But really. To make this work, don't you have to intrude upon people's lives and SM

make a horrible pest of yourself? Honestly? My riding instructor, who is one of the dearest friends I've ever had, gets into these schemes. His latest was Tahitian Noni juice.

He had some remarkable results with it on a horse that was just a juvenile delinquent - she reared in crossties, acted up at shows when she wasn't in the arena, she was just a PMSing witch.

So I was impressed. I went to a meeting with him. Come to find out, they don't actually want you to buy the Noni juice - they want you to recruit other people to recruit other people. Biggest mess of flim-flam I've ever seen.

Have you ever heard of Richard Petty? He lives in Level
Cross, which is a hop, skip, and a jump from GSO.
Venting-why do people keep putting nm and THEN writing a message?? nm means no message - sm
Please put sm if you have a message and NM if there is no message other than your subject line.  It makes it easier when reading these messages.  thanks so much and have a nice day everyone.
My mother lives with us. We bought small electric space heater for her (sm)
as we usually keep the furnace at about 68 and keep a humidifier going. Makes a big difference. Older people get cold, so I have told her she might want to make sure and wear warmer clothes and don't hesistate to use the space heaters to provide comfort level in the family room and her bedroom for her.
Is Terra Nova owned by a guy that lives on the border of Maine/Canada? - sm
If so, this guy is a snake. He was willing to pay $0.14/line for the Kaleida account just temporarily until he could get his lines set up to offshore. He told me that on the phone!!!
Gossip. Saw both interviews. Grossly misdone by the media to imply US hatred. Johnny Depp lives has
dual citizenship in France and US as his wife is French. He does NOT hate USA. He vehemently denied this. He did "own" that he said the USA sometimes seemed like an aggressive puppy, jumping on other countries to make them do something the USA wanted. Had to do with the whole French thing during the war.  That's ALL he said, and he later said he is not politically savvy and should have kept his mouth shut.  He was sad for all the American soldiers being killed.
small message. nm means no message
see?

oil of old lady!
That's what my husband calls Oil of Olay, but what does he know. I'll be 50 this year (and proud of it) and everyone says I look great for my age.
QA Lady
So obviously you were never a newbie? You came out of MT school the "perfect" MT. I have nearly 3 years experience and there are still things I look up. One thing about MT work is that is it forever changing. Not to mention the QA that faults me for things that are considered correct according to the Book Of Style. Just because an MT is new does not imply that she cannot do the job.
Hey QA lady. You were all over the
GAB board yesterday and now you are on the MAIN board telling us once again how wonderful you are and how superior you are to the rest of us. GET OVER YOURSELF. You keep telling us how awful MTs are, so QUIT and you won't have to deal with it anymore. I would hate to have you as my QA person. I think we all have heard enough about how PERFECT YOU ARE and how worthless MTs are.
You saying that, I only wish the lady
had been here at that particular time. I was transcribing a physician who changes almost every other word, sentence, saying oh don’t put that in, change to thus and so and then says a sentence and then says delete that. I could pull my hair out when I even see his name coming in. I remember the first time I ever listened to a physician and like the person you mentioned above, knew he was speaking English and I barely knew the first word he was saying. I guess most think we sit at home just "typing" a bit and then eating chocolate chip cookies the rest of the time.
My kids have suffered greatly from me working at home with them home. SM
I have been working at home as an MT since my two kids were born. They are now 4 and 5. In the first few years, I had no help whatsoever. Their father was a bum who didnt work or take care of them while I worked. Your children get neglected while you work basically. And babies and young children desperately need your attention while they are home with you.

My kids have so many behavioral problems right now because of their neglect. I would try to set them up with things to occupy themselves, like coloring or a movie, etc.

I finally put them in day care and things have improved, but there are still a lot of issues because of the damage that was done. They still try to seek attention by doing bad things and they dont listen to me because they are so used to me letting them get away with a lot of stuff because I was too busy typing to discipline them in their early years.

If I could do it all over again, I would definitely have put them into day care from the very beginning.

My advice would be to seek PT care for your baby. Maybe you can do some work around her schedule a little when she is home, like when she takes a nap, and then bang out a bunch of work while she is in day care.
