To me they are harder than Indians, Spanish or anything else. Strange.

Basically, harder dictators and harder reports with a lot of formatting with tables, etc. SM

give you extra lines because of the time involved in doing those particular reports.  Not so much you get paid more per line, you just get extra line credit.  For example:

You have a 100 line report, but it is weighted because of a table that you have to input.  Then you would maybe get credit for 130 lines for that report.

Strange, really strange response. NM

Spanish b@tt doctor
Lovely job working for a Spanish gastroenterologist who's wife was the office manager and enjoyed called office help stupid in Spanish and I was responsible for making sure gloves and lube were stocked---no kidding, this was apparently in the fine print somewhere when I signed on (probably in Spanish).
Spanish accents. sm
I worked on an account out of San Diego once, heavily thick Spanish (Mexican), brilliant docs, but very difficult.  I work on an account in FL now, still Spanish but Cuban and very, very different.  Those of you who say you don't do accents, try another field.  This job is all about dialects and learning and hanging in there.  If you are pompous enough to say, "you don't do this or that", bet your pay reflects it.
Spanish accents. smC
Clarification:  You probably still make good $$$$ if you are the perpetual cherry picker.  I hate cherry pickers, that is cheating, lying and stealing.  Most managers even those Rhit sort of people, do not realize how much cherry picking hits those of us in the pocket who do any job assigned.  I hope all cherry pickers rot in hello.
One of the Spanish docs says
and "common" for comma.
Spanish - Mexican version
Cubans, no problem, Mexicans, no way.  I love Indians and Asians.
Spanish, Slavic, and Greek.

I grew up in so cal, but the Spanish dictators are the sm

hardest for me.  The Japanese and Korean ones are the best.  Seems like the enunciate more clearly or something.

I think Spanish and French are the worst, (sm)
and I even took French. But they have an annoying way of dropping out all recordable sound and just doing something with their lips that a recorder can't pick up at the end of some words that is very annoying.

I have enjoyed British, but every newbie should be warned about their "stop" and "full stop" for punctuation, LOL.
I want to learn Spanish so when go to my fave

I wore a Spanish mantilla - it stayed out of the way and was still fun.

Spanish, French do celebrate Christmas in USA
Middle Eastern Arabic people do not celebrate Christmas nor the Jewish people (and Chanukah comes early 12/3 this year so they should be working.  Russian Christmas is in January.  The Hispanic community as well as the French communities here in the USA, as I know it, certainly do celebrate Christmas.  Happy Holidays To All....
Indians
you understand each other because you care to, there is the difference. Have a nice day!
LOL-they are probably all Indians.

Indians
The company I work for sends all of the easiest work from each account to the foreign freaks --- leaving the hardest work for the American transcriptionists, who are expected to still maintain greater than 98% accuracy, and the American transcriptionists who were sending too much to QA were fired!!!!
not just Indians
One company now is going to train Vietnamese, another Chinese (just what we need, a communist country with our information).  I frankly would trust the Indians more than any of them, including the Filippinos.  The Indians have been our allies for years and years.  The Filippinos are dreadful to work with.  The company I work for only uses them and they are absolutely horrible with errors that could kill somebody. As a QA we try to teach them how to do it right and all we get back are incredibly rude emails from them.  They even say they don't have time to spellcheck, nor will they, and their QA only opens the files and sends them on.  At the risk of losing the accounts, my company tells us now not to anger them, we need them.  They used to get points deducted for mistakes, now they don't, but the domestics sure do.  It's like we are THEIR employees.  They are the worst MTs and the nastiest people I've ever dealt with.  I would any day rather work with Indians.  They were polite, respectful, always answered emails, always made attempts to do better.  The others are cocky and could care less what we think or what we need.  Needless to say, I'm trying desperately to find another job.  I don't work for offshores, nor will I.  This company now is just pushing through the files without QA because they don't want to hire even though we keep telling them the files are horrible and they could come back on the company legally, but it's all in the money.  Less QA = more money.  I would NEVER go to a hospital or clinic my company does the transcription for, NEVER.
Indians by far!!!

We have been taken over by the Indians!
PROOF POSITIVE.   I am outta here.
Goes both ways. I have a hard time with tenses when speaking Spanish. :)

East Indians
Tell me about their arrogance! The apartment house I live in is loaded with them. They are dirty, they are loud and arrogant. It's terrible.
Can still do that and not help the Indians earn our money.

THE POST IS NOT ABOUT INDIANS BUT ABOUT AMERICAN COMPANIES
that want to send their work overseas and train them to transcribe it. I want to know why the moderators feel it is okay to post jobs from spheris and healthscribe and others that were mentioned in the article when they undoubtedly hire us in the US until they can train more transcriptionists overseas and then leave us high and dry.
Yuck !!! Will take Pakistanis and Indians over Asians any day.... nm

Weren't the Indians given a reduced rate to get CMT?
p
I get it. They are paying the indians 1 or 2 cents a line,
which isn't much to us but it is to them, and then they just pay QA people a few cents more a line to edit the crap that comes back (probably no worse than correcting some ASR) and there ya go. $$$$$
Focus is run by a bunch of Indians who don't know what they're doing.

Not many. A lot of Indians use Canada as a crutch to gain US business and
for processing.  You'd probably do better at MTGab since it is a Canadian MT site.
better or worse than the Indians saying womting, wenous insufficiency...
Cannot stand hearing the *w* unstead of the *v*!
They recently got rid of all their Canadian MTs, guess to make room for more Indians. nm

I would bet its harder now being a kid than
You almost have to be mean, because mean people get respect and heard.  Nice people are easier to stomp on.  While your teaching your kid please and thank you, other mommies are teaching theirs to be ruthless and cruel.  Truly to the core nice genuine people are so hard to find these days.
It was harder for me when they were that age too - sm
They are 6 & 7 now....though when they are home sick my work goes in the toilet basically. When they were younger ( I started when then were 2 & 3) I basically just worked when they napped and at night, about all you can do. I still get up early a few days a week and work until 11 or so despite them being in school all day (though the last day is June 1, ahhgggg, way too early this year), and will have a more radical plan this summer (i.e. work 3 a.m. to noon is my goal) so I don't have to make sure they are occupied while I work all day and I can actually spend some time with them, granted I will have to take a cat nap at some point, amazing what a 20-minute rest can do for you.
I would definitely be harder but obviously
all of their clients.  I would set up an 800 call-in dictation number or a TASP and then wherever the place you move to, look for new clients in that area while keeping the old ones when you move, dialing into the 800 # to dictate (or using a hand-held and uploading, but I personally have never done it that way).  I think they feel more comfortable using a service that is local to them; that seems to be their first choice.  And then they will go with a national service if there is nothing available locally.  I think just concentrate on whatever area you are in, build a rapport with clients in that area and do a good job for them, and then when you move just continue to have them dictating long distance on the 800#.  Of course, you will have to set up to send files back electronically and not by delivering because you can't deliver once you move - so just set it up where you send files back through an FTP site or encrypted email or whatever from the beginning.
I tell them it's harder than it looks!
Every one of my neighbor friends who has kids has asked me that question. They see me home all day, know I have a mortgage, car payment, etc, and think they can do it too. I always give them the example of a relative of mine who tried to teach a nurse how to transcribe. The nurse obviously had the terminology, but could not make the leap to hearing something and typing it on a keyboard. The last neighbor who asked (baby due in 2 weeks), I just said "Find yourself an account and I'll help you learn". This was 6 months ago when she first asked and, of course, didn't bother to do that. In other words, they don't want to go to school, don't want to get an account, don't want to do anything other than sit down, starting typing something and get a paycheck in 2 weeks. It seems to be one of the only professions that everyone thinks is easy (and we all know it's NOT!!!).
We do work harder
Than most people at an office, I think. When I worked in an office environment, it was so easy to get caught up with talking to everyone and not really getting as much work done as I should have. Here at home, I HAVE to get my work done if I want to get paid! Most people don't realize that. I think that they believe we just around and eat bonbons all day! Ain't so!
You Know WHY They Work Harder?

Because they actually think they are making good money to "live in wonderful country that is free."  They don't pay taxes, they don't pay for health insurance, etc.  Not to mention, they don't do a good job, you could turn 'em in and have their butts back in their own country.  Fear is a great motivator.

Cost of living keeps going up and wages don't.  Why would ol' Joe America keep breaking his back working for peanuts when he KNOWS it's not going to pay the mortgage?  There ARE hardworking Americans out there but they have to make a profit and shouldn't have to compete with people who aren't even in this country legally.

I have never seen a harder worker than
my husband and he can do 2500 tops.  He used to QA between 4500 and 5000 daily - so he can really move through reports once he learns the doctor, their style of dictation, etc.  I'm on my second VR account and I'm embarrassed to tell you what I can do - I think 600 yesterday? I am dead serious.  It is a whole 'nother skill....
by doing the harder dictators you....
get valuable experience and when it comes down to it, YOU are the one who looks good and has more potential for raises and promotions because you can do those and do them well when no one else can.  Also, you are the one that they'll see can ultimately do ANY type of report/dictator without hesitation or problems.  So let them cherrypick.  They're only hurting themselves in the long run.  (that is, if you work for a company who actually appreciates it's employees!)
strange...

I have to say I go with the rudeness.  This industry is falling apart.  Poor management runs rampant.  I have encountered the same thing as you have.  Once in a blue moon, I will run in a recruiter or manager who is on the ball and actually returns phone calls.  Most of the time, they act like you should feel blessed if they deign to call you back.

I too am in search of intelligent management/MTSO.

Do you think it is strange that
a father would take a bath with his 2 year old daughter and not see anything wrong with that? Or is it me?
Yes! Very strange! and even if it were the other way around
a mom and her 2-year-old son it would be just as strange.

There is just no need and absolutely no reason for it other than...well you know the answer to that...it's in your gut instinct already.
That's strange...
I don't see where anyone was rude to her.  Everyone has given her excellent advice!
That is strange

Patti, I wonder if that MT might be just using all letterhead so that is all that needs to be ordered, so they do not have to order matching paper for second pages. However, IF that were the case, I would assume the letterhead page would cost the doctor more, so that may be a way to present it as well to the doctor once you take over the account completely since $ talks for most of these docs. :D Also, if I understand you correctly, some reports are being done on letterhead that should be on plain paper and, if so, that is a real waste of money for the docs! I am with you - I have never seen anyone do that in my life. It is not only incorrect but, as I said, may actually cost more for the letterhead paper.

I was told on one account I work for that there are a couple words that I should divide/hyphenate that technically are one word. I was told that they wanted all the words  consistent that begin with this same prefix as some are divided/separated; however, some are not, and it is not correct, and I just can't force myself to do what I know is wrong! I guess if I were to told "do it my way or else", then I would. Otherwise, I am doing it correctly. :)

BTW, congrats on landing the new account and best wishes!

I don't think that is strange at all....

the harder the work, the more money it pays.  That makes sense to me, if you have work that you HAVE to get done.

No, there's others. But it's strange, I almost took a job there too.

Wow, I guess I'm just destined to have to put up with it.  I'm so scared about it though.

Strange
That is really strange.  I have no idea why that would be happening.  They must not pay for spaces or something.  I would ask the company she works for.  Sorry, I'm not much help.
Very strange
I just began filling out an application to a transcription service advertising on another MT forum.  Halfway down the application page it is asking for my social security number.  There is no way in (you know where) I am giving that out.  I find this a bit shady if you ask me.  Why do they need my SS#?
