What credential is FAAMT? sm

Where I work there's someone who likes to sign her emails with

RN, CMT, FAAMT

It's kind of laughable. Should we all start writing our degrees and education behind our names?

No education? Feel free to give yourself an abbreviated title.

ASMS (Associate of Science in Medical Secretarial--I tried it without the medical first, but it didn't look so nice behind my name).

Anybody else think this is all a bit silly in our field?

FAAMT
I have to agree. Even though I do not put CMT or FAAMT behind my name, I respect what the initials represent. I could have grandfathered in as a CMT way back as I started in 1971. It took six years before I really got enough skill and speed to really make good money. Whoever is laughing out loud at these credentials must not have put into their career what I have put into it, mastering so many dialects and specialties and working so hard at excellence. I wish I did grandfather in as I have over thirty years experience; the field is that difficult. Why should not a field that does legal medical reports on extremely high levels such as open heart surgeries and life and death issues not be a credentialed person. Perhaps the people who are laughing out loud should go to another profession, one like MacDonalds, of which I am certainly not putting down. I appreciate dedicated workers in all fields. Medical transcriptions are tremendously underpaid even at best, and highly skilled even at worst, so who could dare laugh at the credentialing system. They were called typists so long. They have fought long and hard to have the dignity that they should have always had. While it is very hard to sit and the work is tedious, I am so honored by my own skill that sometimes I sit back and think, I really can do this type of work. I have such respect for dedicated transcriptionists. I am looking forward to the day that we are paid on the proper scale. Then we will have completely won the victory!
What do the credentials FAAMT stand for? TIA
x
It's silly and pompous to be putting FAAMT behind one's name.
x
It's not even a credential.
It stands for "Fellow of the American Association of Medical Transcription".  With the way AAMT is now, I surely wouldn't want this behind my name.
CMT credential
I've been doing transcription now for 20+ years. While I once had the CMT status, it was never recognized anywhere I worked,  so I let it lapse. Having said that, however, since we don't know what the future might bring, it would probably be worth it to keep it up just in case, who knows, SOMEDAY someone might actually pay you more for the credential.  Good Luck.
CMT Credential

I am trying to locate all mt's who have obtained their CMT Credential through The National Heathcareer Association.

I completed a medical transcription course at Techskills located in Brookfield Wisconsin. I also passed the Certified Medical Transcription exam which was taken at the Techskills location; administered through The National Healthcareer Association.

I was informed by 48 out of 54 potential employers that the CMT Credential that I thought I earned was false, counterfeit, and not worth the paper it was printed on. I was also informed that Techskills curriculum and the CMT Credential through The NHA are not recognized in the healthcare industry.

I was informed that the only place to obtain the CMT Credential is through The AHDI and only after you have two years of acute care under your belt.

I am forming a class action lawsuit against The NHA and
Techskiils. I have located other students who experienced that same deceptive practices and had no idea who to call or where to submit a complaint.
They are saddled with student loans in excess of $7,0000 and have no way to pay for them because they cannot get that medical transcription job that they were promised. If you or you know of someone who attained their CMT through The NHA or went to Techskills, please email me asap ****.

How valuable is the RMT credential to employers?
x
My pay went up 1 cent a line when I obtained my CMT credential.
x 26 pay periods a year.  Nothing to sneeze at and definitely worth the effort.
The REAL credential was the ART a few years back
WE had to have knowledge to get it. Not just show that we could transcribe. We had A&P with the premed students. We HAD to learn the stuff.
No, I got my credential 30 years ago, didnt keep up hours. couldn't afford to. so now I'm ju
but like i said, cant take away my knowledge.
Exactly! Set up testing, issue a credential, represent the American MT. I love it! nm
