Who do you know that is in the medical field?
Think of any friends that you have that may work for physicians. That is how I found my clients. Also, type (not email) your resume and a cover letter and mail them to individual doctors who have their own practices. I have worked for a private physician for 12 years, I set my own fee, and I get paid weekly regardless. I found this job through a friend who referred me. Most of the time it's who you know. It can be done. After you get yourself established with one physician, you can ask him or her for any referrals. Where I live, doctors are always looking for transcriptionits. I have never worked for a transcription company. I have always been independent and have been very happy. It is a good living when you work for the right people.
If you like to type (fast), are fascinated by medical field, enjoy working solo, you will be fine.
You may have to go through three jobs (over several years) to get to the big money. Best to chose a specialty which you find intriguing and tends to pay well (surgery, radiology perhaps).
the profession is not respected because
too many of the people who are in it refuse to behave like professionals. Have you bothered to find out how your employer feels about working in a public place?
oh well, I loved/respected them too until I read

and one of the links is directly from MSNBC Dateline on TV.

If they are raping their own sisters and children - well I'm rethinking it all........and they remove the teeth of the one (16 y/o girl) who went OUTSIDE the family to report the rapes so that she wouldn't TALK (little do they know - people with no teeth still talk - they'd have to cut out her tongue, no?).  Oh that MSNBC article was actually from Dateline.  Go check it out!!!

Sorry - I see you are an IC in the title My bad! NM

Because the pay is better and the title looks much better on any resume for any job.
x
I would be proud of that title too!
Don't listen to them. You have a right to brag - carry on former bank manager.
your holding the title!

First of all, I am sorry for your loss.

Second, how can he even say anything is owed since you have the title in your hand?

Hope it all works out for the best.

What is your title? Never heard of that kind

Catchy newsletter title.
Any suggestions for a "catchy" MT newletter title??  Thanks!
oh, the title alone wasn't enough to report it?

Whoops! It's bad when typo is in the title! nm

Probably the same wimp company I'm with. My title is QA, but I'm not allowed to do my job!
Know what I mean???  Yuck...
Looks like integrity doesn't belong in their title either
n/m
But don't you now put RHIT on your resume since that's the current official title? sm
I earned my RRA, but in the time since I earned it the AHIMA has changed the title to RHIA, so that is what is on my resume.
Do you put "License xxxxx" on a SOAP note for signature title?

I am typing up a SOAP note template for a new PT.  He gave me his credentials, plus his "number," which is his license number for his signature title.  He did not say to put License in front of the number, but I think it looks funny without it. Has anyone ever done this before?  Is it appropriate to put the word "License" before the number?  He is away from the office, otherwise I would ask him myself.

Thank you!

If Word, Shift + F3 cycles thru upper/lower/title case.

I think most MTx are highly

their jobs.  I really believe to be a good MT, you have to be very smart.  We don't get the recognition we deserve!.

Okay fellow MTs I know this
was probably asked many times before, but where do you all get the little spongy things that go on your headphones? Mine got a hole in and they were the last pair I had. Do they sell them in any stores?
Or you could help your fellow MTs by...
Taking the time to object to this settlement. Opt out and object!  I am sending letters to the attorneys to do just that.
I would highly doubt that considering
you had been "riding" your horse all day. That stench will carry for awhile!
Not the OP, but he seems like such a sweet fellow.

Highly recommend M-TEC!!
I had job offers right out of school with a number of companies. Their training was right on. The support you get from them is terrific. I have also personally met both Kathy and Susan who, in addition to being great instructors, are also very nice ladies! Go for it and be prepared to work hard! :-)
I highly recommend
you quit leaching and GET YOUR OWN ACCOUNTS, this way you'll get what you feel you're worth, okay?  I know you expect this and expect that, and there are posters here who think what you're asking for is totally within line and shame on ANY MTSOs who won't accommodate YOU!  To that end I say, E-MAIL THEM and fill out a job application, and have THEM pay you the executive wages you expect.  Yeah, like they're really going to.  Gheesh!  And don't worry, I wouldn't hire you on a bet.  I'm looking to and intend to make money, not lose it on a SC who's got delusions of grandeur!
I highly recommend WW

I do WW on line and love it. However, some people really need the meeting support to stay on track. I lost all my weight on line, about 40 pounds, with the last 10 by joining local meetings for three months just so I could achieve "Lifetime Status", which I did. You never have to pay for any meetings after reaching your goal/Lifetime unless you go over your goal by 2# and you must weigh-in at least once a month. By achieving lifetime, you get a discount for your on-line subscription/E-tools. E-tools and the support of the forums keeps me on track and accountable so far. I have maintained for a couple months now after achieving my goal.

I don't see it as a "diet" either. It a change of lifestyle. I eat differently and do not plan to go back to my unhealthy eating style. You can eat anything you want too as long as you plan for it and/or account for it in your weekly points. Believe me, I feel if you have the desire and stick to the program, WW can work! :) My cholesterol levels are all WNL for the first time in many, many years too. :D

Best wishes.

Dear fellow MTs...sm
I am stuck and don't know what to do.  I keep going back and forth and now I am afraid to make any move at all.  Could use some of your opinions on this situation.  At the moment, I have two part time jobs.  The one I have worked for a little over 3 years as an IC.  The other I just started about 4-5 weeks ago.  I did seek the company out and I started with them full time employee so I could get some PTO for once in my life.  However, I had to switch to part time employee because of the schedule thing.  We all know as an IC, we have a lot more flexibility and this is very important to me, and the new company is a set schedule that must be followed.  Long story short, I went into the new job hoping to make better money, work smarter, not harder, and drop the IC job.  But, 5 weeks later, I just still can't drop the IC position so I am now working more, working harder, and working more than full time and I need to make a decision.  The new job pays better but after taxes and all, not really!  It is an employee position so I have to work a given schedule.  The job itself is basically the same as my IC job, not easier, but maybe slightly more difficult to make lines.  The IC job is a job and at one point, I was treated very unfairly by the owner and that bothers me a bit because of fear of that happening again, but for the most part, it has been good to me and is considered one of the best IC jobs out there.   I really am stuck and need some opinions/advice from you all that have made the leap from IC to employee or employee to IC.  I feel I am at a dead end being an IC, but yet I need the flexibility to some extent.  I don't know what to do.  Both companies are considered GOOD ones by MTstars company board criteria.  Any and all opinions/advice appreciated.  TIA
You think? Highly doubt it.
These people are getting promoted. LOL
Hello, fellow Iowan!
There are plenty of MTSOs online. What are you looking for?
Need my fellow MTs opinions...sm

I've been working from home as an IC for my 7 years of MTing.  MUCH has changed in my life and I find that it may be time to leave the home office and get back into the world of the living.  I spoke wiht a hospial in my area and got a bit of info - full time position Monday through Friday, full benefit package, tuition reimbursement, life insurance, healthcare, disabiliy, etc.  The top pay is 6k less than what I'm making now, but that is not that important as there are other factors I have to take into consideration.  My question to those of you who are in-house MTs, would you share your hourly rate - just a ballpark.  This is the first time I've ventured down this path and actually received figures from a potential employer.

So, what do you all think?

Fellow struggler
I, too, struggle with my line count (though slowly growing).

I have a few accounts but ENDLESS dictators with one of them.

If I didn't use an Expander I would be toast. Between spelling, word/drug oddities, and making tons of various sentence expansions (to help conform to soooo many dictators), I feel there is no other way.

It is true it takes time but worth it ultimately.

Any knowledge you can gain as far as medical language would be a big plus too. That is another problem I have ... trying to retain the meanings of things to verify if they fit.
I, of course, was being highly sarcastic.
Wow. No sense of humor? Seems this place can do that to some.

Cheers, luv, cheers.
Yah it proves how HIGHLY intelligent she is.
was for adults? You go girl? What are you 17? Sounds like something my daughter says.
g'night fellow vampire! I'm right behind ya (sm)
Hey, stick figures would be okay... heaven knows we're ALL thin in THIS city!!

Thanks for the fun ;-)
She is a fellow MT. I thought it was the right thing to do as many might know her. why?

For you happy highly productive MQ MTs

Help those of us who are struggling by giving us some pointers on what you are doing to be so successful and happy.  I am very discouraged.  I do not want to have to start over with a new company.  I have 15 years experience, 8 of those with MQ.  Since DQS, I cannot get quota.  Never had a problem before, so I am not understanding.

Please give me any suggestions that might increase my productivity.  And before all the comments of "stay off the board" begin - I am not working today.  I do have some self discipline.

Thank you fellow Northeaster. I'll try it! sm

I'm a Mainer.  It's getting chilly tonight.  I'm not happy. $2.499 for heating oil here and old man winter is coming. I'll break out the heating pad. :)

Thank goodness we have a wood backup and some wood.  I've already told the hubby and kids to break out their socks and sweaters because that thermostat will NOT go above 65 this winter.

to fellow psych major
I would like to start working in the field before I get my BA.  Do you know how many credits you would need in order to do that, and is an AA degree far enough to begin work?  You're a lot closer than me so I figured you might know this.  It would be a big weight off my shoulders knowing I could work within three years rather than 7, which seems so long.  Thanks in advance
I highly doubt that is the reason.
I mean, how many people truly observe that holiday and think I need to get all the work done that I can now because it is Veteran's day in 2 days. It's not like there is a Veteran's day meal like Thanksgiving or presents like Thanksgiving.
Of course she didn't. I highly doubt
Some people just can't stand for this board to be quiet, so they either post a dumb POLL question or some other nonsense.  Now they've resorted to posting outright lies. This is totally absurd. I guess the next post will be that they are letting inmates process checks for banks at night...or work at day care centers. Sheesh!  The people on this board never cease to amaze me.

good morning fellow MTs
Does anyone have a used C phone for sale. E-mailed a few people on board who said they had one but have not heard back from either one. Thank's in advance....
I understand what you are saying, but this is a highly skilled sm
field, not "washing dishes" or even "working at Wallyworld." Yes, there is VR and other things out there making this our jobs easier and in very rare cases, null and void, but this industry STILL requires skilled MTs who will pick up what VR and computers just cannot do.

I do VR on a regular basis and there are so many gross errors it isn't even funny. I would say 50% of any given document contains error that would be a detriment to direct patient care.

I received a newsletter recently from my company that stated this industry is growing and that the industry is having a very difficult time finding experienced, good MTs to do all of the work given to any given company. That, to me, was very, very positive in the way of where our jobs will be in 10 years.

I don't see in 10 years VR or foreigners taking our jobs. In 30 to 50, maybe, but not anytime soon.

So, a company offering 7 cpl to an experienced MT is a disgrace (especially if they take it). On new grads, I think 4 cpl is just fine because I also taught MT at a local college and there was no way that any of my students (graduates) could do this from home without a mentor/QA, etc., full-time for at least a year until they could be on their own. They would make way too many mistakes.
A fellow co-worker said it was all mucked up

last week.  I think she's off today though so haven't heard.  Wouldn't doubt it.

It's a sad day when a highly educated doctor can't

I'm talking epistaxis here, ok...not that hard of a word.  She won't even put forth the effort to pronounce words correctly, especially medications, which in my opinion is downright dangerous.  I wouldn't want her for my doctor...way to dangerous of a dictator.  BTW, I never, ever guess on a medication, even if I am confident about what she MEANS to say...so always end up sending hers to proofing...okay, I'll get off my  now...good day all!!!

Ok to snag this and send to a few fellow MTs? sm
This really rings a bell for me, and I know it would a few friends of mine, also. I would never copy it and send it on without asking permission, though.

Merry Christmas!
