Whatever it takes to attract the accounts

Do you really think that doctors want pictures of us sitting around in our jammies with a cup of coffee in hand saying "Thanks for the work doc, I'm ready to type!"  Come on guys.  Be easy on the poor model.  She's just trying to make some cashola, too!  I wish they would put ads for models on here.  I'd apply to show them how fast I can type and still look cute!     LOL, just kidding of course, I would be too shy to apply.

Yep.  Soon to be hubby used to wallow in dust and disarray totally oblivious to it. Kept his dishes clean but not too much else.  However, got him to appreciate the concept of "clean" to the point where he now actually says, When is the last time you swept this floor?  Look at it!  He says it tongue in cheek, but the fact that he NOTICES is music to my ears, cuz I get lots of compliments after a simple 1/2 day of weekly housecleaning.  He still throws things around, but not so much anymore.  Hopefully your hubby will nudge over "to your side" in the future.  Good luck!
Unfortunately, false statements of high pay attract

How about zillions of accounts. MQ has these accounts so overloaded even the new hires dont have any
work. I would love to read some of these reports and then they expect perfect QA and no blanks. Did they lose their minds completely.
The accounts are old and she keeps her accounts TRUSTING she hired the right MTs
who if in doubt will ask questions regarding reports. No one can find all mistakes in all reports and that is human to have a report with perhaps a typo. You think anyone reads through all the reports of a national company before they get to the hospital? Not a chance. Some random QA is supposed to correct all mistakes? Not hardly. Doctors/dictators make mistakes too. We all do. So do QA people. So the thing is this person hires good people who are trustworthy, the hospital likes the way she does their account and life goes on quite nicely w/o hovering editors/QA people. BTW, who QAs the QA people on your accounts. Ever wonder?
Not all accounts are good accounts. One
That should not be the case. Sounds like you need new accountant with strong knowledge of IC deduction.  We save a several thousand on what we pay in taxes based on what I can deduct as at home IC, $2000 off the top for what I pay my child to help with office chores, as an example.  The measly 7.xx% I pay that an employer would pay is well worth my independence in being my own boss.
Takes one to think you know one?

Whatever it takes
to remove yourself from that situation within reason, do it.  If you think the arrangement with your brother is going to keep your BF from slinking back in, the 'brother' all the way.  If his habits change in the future, you'll just have to make necessary adjustments at that time.
Takes one to know one!
I am with the program and I enjoy very much working for MQ!

If people are not spoiled at MQ, then why on earth are they now complaining about having a set schedule? Why don't you get the with the program and look at all the companies that are hiring and when you realize that 90% of those companies want a set schedule, then I will be waiting here for an apology. Until then, go brush your teeth!

As far as being a dope, why the heck are YOU STILL WITH MQ IF THE SUPPOSEDLY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF YOU - HMMMM????

As many as it takes! LOL
If the doctor dictating can't be bothered to dictate away from the gossiping females at the nurses' station, speak clearly and slow down, why should we lose money because they're inconsiderate? It's better than guessing and getting it wrong or just making stuff up. You'll get the hang of the more difficult dictators if you keep on doing them, but even they can't control background noise or static.
you have what it takes to be and are sm
a successful MT! I don't see how anyone could be a good MT with an interest in medicine. Too much of this business about how many lines to type nowadays etc and no interest in medicine, no wanting to do research etc. I have seen several folks like you in my career and hired every one of them. They are still transcribing today and have great careers. I am beginning to think its futile to try and explain this to some folks. They either get it or they don't and want to argue.

Obviously you are a great MT and you know what it takes. I have a couple ophthalmology books and can part with one if you want it. E-mail me!
here's what we did -takes awhile, but
if you have a video camera, tape every car that stops at his place and any transactions you might see (you do not have to be outside to do this - through a crack in the curtains/blinds works) take the tape to the cops - they will handle it. Or maybe they already have him set up on a sting....or are on the take. Where do you live city/state-wise?
Takes a few pp's for deducts to come out.
Yep, filled out paperwork first.

Call your supv or better yet call your training coord or payroll people.

That's what they are there for.
I can't do that because it litterally takes my
breath away. It's like I'm smothering. My aunt had wood heat and I couldn't even visit.
Date? Isn't that where a guy takes you out
And expects to get sex afterward? If you don't cooperate, that's the last time you will ever see him. No thanks-- my furry critters are a lot more loving and faithful and are not the least bit selfish.
What's the difference if she takes
6 hours to do 8 hours' worth of work, or if she takes a break for 2 hours after she does say 5 1/2 hours, comes back and finishes up her "8 hour" schedule? Would that make you "feel" better? Oy-vey!  A day's work is a day's work, but you want ALL of her time. What is the problem? Work ethic? I think not.  She has done a FULL days' work in less time than what you would like, so what?  If one does 8 hours' work in 6 hours, then anything over her 6 hours would be OT, oh that doesn't count in your book.  Would you pay more for her to work OT?  I bet not... The only thing she would get for being a good, fast transcriptionist is fired for NOT doing more than her share...niiiiiice... Crazy!
It takes a little while to get used to the lingo, sm
but you'll do fine. Just get in some practice before you start on production. BTW, I've noticed over the years that most of the work services get as "overflow" is ortho and OB/GYN.
I have heard that before but the one that takes the
cake is the one who took the recorder to the bathroom with him.
It takes concentration
Just imagine you are Jessica Rabbit - remember the way she walks? LOL
Mine always takes...
the $ out immediately.  Most of the time the transactions show up within an hour or two online.  There are times when the $ is taken out but the transactions don't show up for several days, sometimes even a week.  I wouldn't worry too much about it. Since it is a holiday weekend, they probably took the $ out already and it hasn't shown up yet.
$22.00 plus tip, takes 1/2 hour nm

Awww, that takes the fun out of it! sm
I look like a little kid when I eat corn. I just love it. I wind up making a meal out of it. I have butter, salt and pepper on my face and don't bother to wipe it until I am done. Terrible, aren't I? But, it is so yummy.
I have just found that it takes sm
so much more that just the actual typing when you gain your own account.  You have to deal with the obtaining your money part, and the phone calls for dictation not in place or they misplaced it.  It is great, but there are some downfalls to having your own account.
Try ctrl-Z and see if that takes it away.
Meanwhile, i'll research it.  :)
It takes time
It probably seems like it is not worth it because you are new.  No other account will be easier and probably harder.  So you have to stick with it, get a good Expander as since you have the same doctor you should only be actually typing about 2/3 of what he says and probably more like 50%.  Use your autocorrect if you don't have an expander.   You don't say how long are your lines -- what side margins and what font are you using?   I have helped get newbies started and always paid between 7 and 9 depending on how much clean up work I had to do.  Again, it will take time and practice.  Don't give up.  Though 6 cpl is a little low, if it is still  65 character line, in time you should be able to get 200 to 300 lines per hour which is not bad and once you get him down good, ask for a raise.  But you have to get your speed up.  You have an advantage of having the same doctor and so listen for his common phrases and put them at least into autocorrect so you don't have to retype them.  If he doesd any x-rays or procedures, make templates.  Anything to save him time.  His exams, put into autocorrect, etc.   Are you an IC or an employee???   Good luck.
Mine does that too and it is because it takes
so long to expand that I'm typing the next word.  No matter how much I adjust my settings it still doesn't expand fast enough.  I used PRD for years and got spoiled I guess.  It could expand entire physical exams in the time it takes ShortHand to expand COPD.
It takes me about 8.5 hours...
But I do about 1600 lines per day
It's like learning MT all over again. It takes

My mom has RA, takes Arava
Mom has taken Arava for a few years and she is able to function on it quite well. I hope you do well on the meds.
Well, to be fair, many RNs do have what it takes SM
to do well and then some. However, being on the run all shift, supervising underlings and juggling physicans, patients, labs, visitors, and of course all that paperwork, might mislead some of them into viewing it as a nice way to relax in comparison and still get nicely paid for it..! :)
It takes me about 3 hours...sm
but there is a learning curve. If you don't know he account it could take longer.
YES--CP takes precedence over BOS.

It takes awhile...
When I was facing foreclosure it took them over a year to send the vacate letter...I filed for bankruptcy and the bankruptcy was long over before I got the letter.
It takes a lot of talent

to be a good MT. You could do their job better than they could but could they put food on the table doing your job? Noooo! They would die on the vine trying. Most management do not want to see MTs making as much or more money than they do.

Seriously, if they got rid of some of them, we'd all be better off. They cause more trouble especially for good MTs because they feel intimidated by the skill and do not understand it and do not go to bat for us when chips are down. Instead, many times they punish hard-working, top perfromers with unreasonable demands and criticism trying to take them down to their level.  Let's pray for better times.

well it takes a lot of nerve to get sm
on this board and tell American MTs how things are and how to do things when you can't speak the language or communicate well. You are suppose to be an MT but you can't speak the language? Well I doubt that the documents you put out are very good either! Sorry but this is the reason American MTs don't have MT jobs so you need to stick to your country and your MTs and stay out of giving advice here. IMHO.......sorry I need to spell that out, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION!
IT TAKES TIME to get a trial going.

VIA Electronic and U.S. Mail

Dear Statutory Medical Transcriptionists:

We would like to thank you for your continued service and support. We know that the key to our success is the people who work so hard for our customers everyday.

At MedQuist, we are determined to become the medical transcription provider of choice for statutory employees. Over the past several months, with your help and input, we have been working on developing a pay plan and comprehensive benefit program that will enable us to set the standard in the industry. We recently announced significant changes to our benefits program for full time employee transcriptionists and within the next few months, MedQuist will be announcing a new pay plan that will address the feedback we received from medical transcriptionists in response to our survey on pay issues.

As you may also know, MedQuist is currently responding to a lawsuit brought by three medical transcriptionists that was filed in response to certain publicity surrounding MedQuist's billing practices involving the AAMT billing unit of measure. MedQuist takes all allegations concerning its pay practices very seriously and will seek to address any concerns raised by the lawsuit. While we believe that the claims raised by the three transcriptionists appear to lack merit, we are diligently working on addressing this matter in order to best serve all of our valued medical transcriptionists.

To enable us to fully and appropriately respond to this, as well as other lawsuits currently pending against the company and governmental investigations, our lawyers from Winston & Strawn are required to collect documents. To ensure that you are completely informed about the materials they are seeking, we have attached a memorandum below regarding MedQuist's document retention and collections policy. Please review this document as soon as possible.

Once again, we would like to express our deep appreciation for your continued patience, cooperation and service to the company.

Very truly yours,

Frank Lavelle

The lawsuit is VERY MUCH ALIVE AND WELL and as some of the more sophisticated posters realize, it takes time for DISCOVERY allowing both sides to attack and defend their position.  And MQ stock is STILL delisted as not even MQ can figure out cooked books based on illegal billing for which ANOTHER lawsuit is STILL pending against MQ by the clients.  And as the MQ stock remains delisted for cooked books and illegal billing the shareholders in MQ stock have YET ANOTHER lawsuit still pending.

IT only takes me a couple times...
of eating out and  then I like  my own cooking again. Most restaurant food is too expensive, the portions are  too big and it tastes like it was made with no love! Maybe a cookbook with easy recipes would be the answer to the blahs!
I agree with you. It takes time to get the

kind of help in there. They have one road open. Everything is flooded. There is no airport to land at. Gas is scarce. 90% of the gas that came from that area is no longer functioning. Cars are being stolen from places just to get out. Thugs are shooting at helicopters trying to evacuate critically ill patients. You've got groups of thugs shooting everything up and steeling anything and everything, but they don't realize mostly everything they take will have to be left behind.  Everyone wants help now but it takes time to put together a plan of these proportions. Nobody was prepared for this because they didn't think it would happen. You have people commandering vehicles with guns for their own use that are being brought in to help evacuate. The only boats you see are very small ones because the big ones can't come in and work. The water is not deep enough.

A lot of people stuck there are making the situation worse for everyone else because they are helping to put off rescues that can happen by shooting at vehicles, shooting at police officers, setting intentional fires just to get the police over to the fire so they don't come chase them for looting or terrorizing others. You have idiots walking around with AK-47s down Canal Street.

Shephard Smith described itbest the other day. Made me think too since I live in Fla. The day after a hurricane you hear chain saws going, you have people cleaning up, you get out there and assess the damage. They could not do that because for them in NO it was not over. The floods were getting worse and rising. There were no people assessing damage, no chain saws cutting down trees, no power trucks checking out downed power lines just because they couldn't get into the city. Everything is blocked. The closest city to them that has power is 90 miles away. That means no gas for them. Yes, they're bringing buses and stuff but it's very slow going. Trying to figure out how to do everything and coordinate everything w/o communication to others is very hard.

One of the guys in the news conferences said yesterday that he spent 18 months at ground zero. They are looking at being in NO much longer because that is much more damage than what he saw at ground zero.

I make $43.50/hour and my doc knows that it takes me - sm
three hours to do his tape from transcribing to printing.

If I even went to him and said "I want to charge for the copies," you can bet he would be looking for a new transcriptionist. He has had plenty of offers from other transcriptionists to do his work at a lower rate, but he likes my work, and I will not jeopardize that whatsoever.

My ink costs me $32/month, which is an expense write off.
I know it says it once and once is all it takes. We are moving away from it but still acceptable.nm
nm
I do it the same as you...takes a little bit of time but worth it. nm
t
Honestly, it takes time.
It took me almost 6 months to completely adjust to 3rd shift.  I have been on 3rd shift now for 7 years and could not imagine ever working any other shift.  Just a few suggestions that took me a bit to figure out.  Call your family and friends and tell them not to call you during the daytime.  If you have a cell phone, use that as an emergency number for emergencies only, i.e. kids, family, etc.  Turn off the ringer on the home phone completely or turn on music and a fan or whatever to drown out the noise.  Room darkening blinds will also help filter out the light.  Good luck.
I knew someone who thought she had what it takes to be an MT
When the owner of the service asked what her qualifications were, she said she watched ER and knew what they were talking about.

Sure takes any incentive out of trying to do a good job.
That is what happens when you put people in charge that have no experience other than raising a couple of loud mouthed brats that always make sure they scream when supervisor calls you.
That takes common sense - LOL - nm

Vinegar also takes smell out. sm

I always use vinegar when I need to get a smell out.

Whenever I burn popcorn in the microwave, I fill a coffee cup full of vinegar and set it in the microwave.  It always takes the smell out.

I've steam cleaned pet soil out of my carpet using vinegar and baking soda, and the odor always goes away.

No, it certainly is not cheap. Overpriced IMO & not takes quite some
gggg
My local store always takes them out. s/m
I've never thought to tip them, and I've never seen anyone else tip either.

By the way, I thought all grocery stores carried out the bags for you.
Cobra takes precedence

Divorce is considered a "qualifying event" and would entitle you to 18 months (or 36 months in certain cases) of coverage through COBRA where you would pay the premium.  You can make an inquiry to the human resources department at his employer if there are children involved and the rate is the same for him to cover himself, the kids and you, and in that event, you would continue to have coverage without invoking COBRA.  The best thing is to read the policy and direct any questions to HR.

good luck

Agree with pat..takes too long

I'm a member of NFO and after about three months I have about 970 points, and you need 1,000 points for just $10.  I only receive about two invites a week for surveys, don't know how to get anymore than that.  I'm also a MyPoints member.  I usually just get the 5 points for reading the message and never buy anything, so it takes a long time to get points added up for me.  Maybe once a year I do redeem them for about $20 worth of gift cards.

The people who advertise that you can do the surveys in your spare time and make all this extra money make it sound like you can just log on to a site and they are sitting there waiting for you, and you can do as many as you want, all day long, for as much money as you want to make.  Wouldn't that be nice!

I have never heard of or seen the car advertising thing except on cabs and public transportation, oh, and of course delivery trucks and cars.

because it still takes too much time to train
it may be that they don't see potential in your work, i.e. poor grammar, accounts have too much ESL, etc.
That's what I've been doing, but sometimes my hands are like ice and it takes more than the fe
seconds I have in between reports to really get them warmed up.  Thanks for all the great suggestions to everyone.  I wish there was a store that I could go to and just try on all the different gloves!  I'm very persnickety when I'm typing.  My comfort level must be as near perfect as I can get it and if my gloves are too tight or too itchy, I'll be distracted.  I guess I'll hang onto my heating pad for now until I decide.
