Which company is best to purchase digital recorders from?

I want to be sure I get good tech support along with my purchase and the original software that should come with the recorders I purchase.  (I have "heard" that some company may send their own software with the recorders they sell.)

digital recorders

Anyone familiar with the digital recorders?  One of my docs wants to get a recorder and send me his voice files via email, he's not worried about being encryped or anything like that.  I think he is looking, of course, to get the cheepest one out there.  Is there anything specific that I need to tell him that these recorders need to have??  Is the docking station that come with some just for convenience or is that the only way to send the files via email?

Thanks ya'all!

digital recorders - duh!

Digital Recorders
I currently have a client who uses the old tapes. I have heard a little about 'digital' but don't know where to start. Can someone please explain to me how the process works after the doc has dictated using a digital recorder?
Digital recorders ? help plz
Hi, for those of you who use digital recorders with your clients, do you purchase them yourself and then give them to the client?  Do you tell the client they have to purchase their own?  Or do you purchase it yourself and then rent/lease it to the client?  Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks!!
digital recorders
My client keeps recording over his records on his Olympus digital recorder. Does anyone know of a recorder that will not record over something unless it is actually manually erased or one with some mechanism that will prevent this from happening? Thanks!!
digital recorders

I thought I posted this message, but I do not see it.

THis is for anyone that can help with digital recorders that they would recommend.  Thanks for all the help with the digital information, which I have researched FTP sites and so on.  I now know how it works and what I need to do. I now need help on the best digital recorders that you have experience with. I have a few Olympus DS4000, they seem expensive, and I will need 3 for each office, so I need cheap, but of good quality.  DS2 sounds good since you cannot edit, which a few state is not a good thing to have as Docs have problems with this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Again

Buy handheld digital recorders.

Don't go cheap on those for several reasons. One, they higher-end recorders will be easier for the docs to backup and edit their recording. Also, they are better built and the sound quality is better.

Your basic needs are recorders, playback software, foot pedal to control playback and a secure, HIPAA-compliant method of transmitting files. There is so much information out there. Your best bet is to first get educated on how digital works. Try a Google search and also search this site since there have been many requests for the same information you're seeking.

If you want someone who will outline the steps, do set up and/or training, etc., you would do well to hire a consultant.

Question about digital recorders

I am just curious how this works.  Does the doc dictate on the digital recorder and then just plug into the computer and upload the dictation via e-mail to be downloaded by the MT?  I have been wanting to switch to digital for a LONG time but just haven't taken the time to research this.  Presently, I have several doctors that I transcribe for but they dictate on microcassettes.  Some of them don't want to change -- just stuck in their ways, but I think it would be easier for them and me and would save me a lot of $$$ on gas.

Is there a lot involved in getting this set up? I mean, besides purchasing the recorders?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

Hand-held digital recorders. sm
Does anyone have anything to say about any particular model?  I am thinking along the lines of Olympus or Philips.  Thinking a docking device best.   Any comments?  Thanks!
VDI call-in system sounds much better than digital recorders and easier tracking with redundant hard
You can hear a pin drop on this system. The sound is that clear. The system has a redundant hard drive and auditing capabilities. It has the capability to do everything but transcribe it. The better the sound file, the faster you can transcribe. I purchased a call-in system that used digital recorders, and the sound was so bad that I ordered this one the same day. I wasted $1200 on that system. Get the analog that uses a VDI SuperStation or C-phone (the C-phone is more clear). Even though the technology is not as new as the digital recorders, in this case it is better. Good luck!
I just started with a great company that I had to purchase
Docshuttle and waveplayer.  I had contact with them throughout the period of waiting for the software to arrive, etc.   If you purchased the disk and not just the download, you can return it.
Bytescribe Company - May Purchase Their OratorPro Dictation System - Any Input?
Does anybody have experience with the company called Bytescribe and their telephone dictation systems? I am looking into buying their OratorPro system where I can have doctors telephone in and dictate onto this system.

Thank you.
I do tapes and digital. And I was told if I'm not logged into the digital system, they assume I&

BUT she wants me logged into the system by 9:30 a.m.  So I'm confused too.  I've decided that I may come back to her and just say I'm not going to do the tapes anymore.  I hate the tapes anyway.  The voice quality is horrible, it fades in and out.  It takes me twice as long to transcribe their tapes than the digital.

Recorders

Hello

My doctors use Olympus recorders.  One doctor does well with the DS-10.  The other uses the DS-330 (No longer in production).  The DS-330 has the advantage of overwriting.  For instance, if the doctor makes a mistake, he can back up and record over what he has already taped; however, this was a disadvantage for my other doctor, who taped over his entire morning of dictation by accident by hitting a wrong button.  It depends on the doctor.  With the DS-10, you cannot tape over anything.  I know with both of them the software provided will automatically put it on the computer once plugged in if you set it to do so, but if you are sending the audio files over e-mail, you should consider first encrypting the file for confidentiality reasons before sending.  I use e-mail, because it is free, and it was easiest to train the office staff to use.  When getting a handheld, you want to consider the types of files also.  A .dss file is much smaller than a .wav file or a mp3 file.  That is also why I went to Olympus recorders, because they record in .dss format, which makes for much faster upload and download times.  If you have other questions, please e-mail me.

Question about voice recorders

I am going to visit some family members in a couple of months and I would like to record some family stories and family history. Any suggestions on a type/brand of voice recorder that willl pick up sound very well but not require that it be right next to the person who is speaking? There are likely to be two or three people talking, and also I don't want to make people self-conscious about being recorded, so I would prefere to be able to place it somewhere unobtrusive.

TIA.

What kind of recorders do the docs use?
Some of the manufacturers have proprietary software that can be used with the recorders that are optimal. For example, Olympus recorders have a transcription kit that contains software designed to work best with Olympus .dss sound files. You might check Novuscript.com. They have transcription kits/software for various recorders and they are really good about helping you figure out what will work best for your particular needs.
No use Olympus recorders and post to ftp site-- all automatically
very little investment required in equipment. Just recorder and software. Why duplicate the Internet when it is free?
Radiology dictation....do any of your radiologists use handheld recorders anymore?

VoiceScribe program?  I am offered a position with a company but they only give you a 30-day trial for this program - then after that you have to purchase license for $600.  I just can't afford that right now.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

definitely purchase something

I got a Brother fax machine several years ago at Office Depot for around $80 or so.  I later got an HP all-in-one in 2005 at Sam's.  I don't remember what it cost, but it's worth it if you'll be faxing regularly.  Some of your clients may prefer a scanned version.

You could also compare on-line fax capabilities, which seems to be more current, for obvious reasons.  I can't remember the details, but I've heard it advertised on talk radio.

Just a thought, especially if you'll be doing this regularly.  Places like the UPS Store, etc. charge a good bit to fax, not to mention the inconvenience of leaving the house to do it.

Me too. Let me know if you find it. I will purchase it also. I also don't know whether or not
Good luck.
Need to purchase cphone
Help!  I am trying to get started transcribing at home and I have work to do but I need advice on what type of transcribing phone to purchase.  I have been instructed by my current employer to by a cphone that dials into an automated system to retreive my work.  Please, any advice or if anyone has one for sale.  The cheaper the better or I will buy used.  Thanks.
It is normal to have to purchase your own
provide the PC.  Some will provide the foot pedal if you do not have what is required.  Some companies give you the option of renting their equipment.  It all depends on the company, but yes you will have to have your own resource books.
Anything you purchase for your transcription

You might want to check out some of the earlier posts here as the tax issues have been discussed.  You would probably gain information in that respect.  Also, you might want to have an accountant/tax preparer for your first year.  Some say, you can copy the next year from that first year, but I personally believe in having my taxes prepared for me as these guys are up on things, ya' know.  Most definitely though you will want to get your own freestanding PC because down the road you may want to gain some of your own accounts, so you will need that.  You will be fine.  Some of these people act like you out to take their job or something???  Go figure.  There is always one bad apple in the bunch, right?  I learned that in grade school.  Best wishes in your endeavors....

Because of scammers, if you purchase a new pc,
and want ALL the CDs, you are going to have to make a verbal request.
Yes, you can purchase an adapter just about anywhere
that sells computer accessories, such as Radio Shack, Best Buy, CompUSA (online only now), etc.

An alternative would be to purchase and download
a product called Phone Tools by BVRP.  It functions as both a fax and answering machine. I've been using it for >5 years now and have never had any problems.
if you use your debit card for gas purchase (SM)
make sure you realize that some companies (Shell is really really bad to do this) will reserve extra funds on your debit card until the transaction completes and releases those funds 24-72 hours later. With Shell, it is $75 over your purchase. I nearly fainted when I realized what was happening. You can go on MSN Money and find a few articles on this -- gas companies reserving funds on your debit card.
Be aware before you purchase online sm
I've never ordered any of my pets' meds online but my friend has. One of her dogs was found to have heart worms and the guarantee was not honored because the product was purchased from a website which does not guarantee its products. I can't remember which site it was; you may want to inquire before you purchase. (She ended up paying $700 for treatment.)

Please overlook any typos, it's been a LONG day.
You can purchase the CMT Review Guide-sm

from Stedman's. The title is "The CMT Reveiw Guide."  This book was just released last year (2005) and was developed for the current version of the CMT exam.  You might also want to consider a CMT Study Group.  Contact the nearest chapter of AAMT as they do have CMT Study Groups.  I know that the Online Chapter of AAMT is about to start a study group that will complete in time to take the CMT in the end of July/begining of August.   Oak Horizons also offers and online CMT Prep Course which I have heard is really good.  You can get more info on the Oak Horizons class on www.aamt.org and do a search for CMT prep course.  For more info on the OCAAMT Study Group contact certconnector@aamtonline.org.

Best place to purchase C-phone? sm

I may need to purchase a C-phone.  I've been looking at ebay and some other sites.  Do any of you have a favorite place to purchase equipment?  I live in Atlanta area, and it seems like there used to be a place to buy equipment, but I can't remember the name.

TIA for your help!

if you purchase Word 2003 (sm)
buy the CD. If you purchase the version that is already loaded on your computer you will never be able to recover that software should your system fail or something happen to your hard drive. If you purchase the CD, you can use that copy on something like three or five computers at your home, and you can reinstall a number of times. Once you run out of installs, you will have to call Microsoft for a new verification number, but if you tell them you only have it on X number of computers at home and you had a bad hard drive, they will give you the verification number so that you can reinstall the program. Otherwise, if you purchase the software from the download that came with your computer, you will not be able to do this - it will be a one-time install only. Ask me how I know *_*
If you purchase a used product online,
be sure to use your credit card only for the transaction.  That way, if the product is defective, you can file a dispute with your credit card company, and they will recoup your funds if the seller refuses to send you a refund directly.  PayPal has a program in place also to help customers recoup their loss if the transaction took place via PayPal.

You can usually purchase short-term disability from
your employer if they offer long-term disability. When it is offered, you usually choose the reimbursement rate, typically up to 70% of your pay.

Savings. LOL That's the way you'll make up the difference. Sadly, disability insurance (LT or ST) has never covered 100% of missing pay.

Where is the best place to purchase dictaphone or C-phone?

Also, I am very unfamiliar with the different types of equipment out there.  I have worked for only 1 company in 7 years and use their equipment.  Can you tell me if there is a difference in the 2 pieces.  Also, I used to use a Lanier station when I first bega, would this be considered a dictaphone?

Thanks.
