the word "poop" doesn't belong in medical dictation - change it to fecal material or something! LOL - these doctors kill me. I had one say "turd" one time, too - who are they kidding? They know it's wrong!

I came from low level neighborhood. I know the effects low level people have on a child's
mind. I fought very hard to get out of there. If you think narrow-minded high-horse thinking people are the only ones who are making trailer park comments, YOU ARE DEAD WRONG. I know white trash people who live for the weekend to get drunk and party and make just enough to get by. I am educated in the "real world" and whether you like it or not, the "real world" doesn't want to be anywhere near a trailer park for real or imagined reasons and does ostracize trailer park people along with ghetto people and section 8 people. Crime, drugs, do come from low income housing. BTW, people are outraged at black-on-black ghetto crime. That does not happen in higher working class black neighborhoods. Same deal with white trash people. Low class white people get drunk fight and end up in jail. If you read the newspaper or watch it on TV over the weekend, you know what I am talking about. Crime, drugs, etc is rarely an ONGOING problem in upper class neighborhoods because most of these people have goals for the future. Lower class neighborhoods and low class people are what they are because that's what the people in the neighborhoods settle for.
Verbatim is verbatim, but I defintely to the little things to make the doc look better such as..sm
an eye problem instead of a eye problem.  I definitely wouldn't change too much.  Stick with what they say and only make changes when you absolutely think it is necessary.  I took a test last night and have an interview today and this is what I did.  FYI, I do clinic work.
Can you save the document as a Word document? nm

Professionalism
How about going through an extensive mammogram due to some problems, being worried about it, etc. and having the radiologist come in wearing a scruffy pair of jeans, worn out looking shoes and in general, I was almost afraid to talk to him because I thought perhaps he was the cleaning person! Talk about lax!!!
Professionalism in America...
What happened to professionalism in America?  Have I been at home in my pajamas too long?  Everywhere I go, every business, etc. I have come across people who are just so unprofessional looking.  Dropping my child off at school the other day, a delivery man got out of his truck looking sloppily dressed.  Uniform shirt was dirty, untucked with belly hanging out.  This is not seen only in men in delivery positions or blue collar workers.  It is seen everywhere.  Offices have gone to casual wear.  What happened to the crisp clean uniforms and nice dressed women in offices?  When I worked outside the house, even when we did have a "casual day" it still was somewhat professional looking (no athletic shoes).  Don't you think this contributes to laziness on the job?  Wouldn't you rather be served by someone clean looking and bright than not?  Do supervisers of these positions accept this look?
Professionalism is lacking everywhere!
Look around you at church. I was taught that you went to church to meet "the King of Kings" and you wore your best. I have to go round and round with especially my son. We have compromised - a dress shirt and tie everyother Sunday - opposite Sunday just a dress shirt. Even look at the people going in and out of funeral homes. Years ago, you would never see anyone attend a viewing or funeral in jeans. Common attire today. If you are raising teenagers today, you really feel this crunch because they are constantly having to go against the flow of their friends. We went to our family doctor's office just a couple of weeks ago. The doctor had on tennis shoes, jeans and a polo shirt. My 13-year-old son said, "he sure didn't look like a doctor!" I about shouted -- I think the message is getting through!! It does matter what you wear!
Professionalism and morals
First, let me say, if I was an administrator in charge of a hospital this particular hospital employee would be gone. No questions asked because she is jeopardizing the welfare of patients by doing what she is doing and putting the hospital at risk for a huge lawsuit.

Rita- I am very sorry that this happened to you. It is a shame that there are doctors out there who think that this is okay to do to someone. Not only that, his dictation for your surgery is fraudulent because he didn't do what he said he did. Did he ever get caught? If so, has he done this to others as well?
A lot of legal transcription and legal jobs in

this is a great post...professionalism is the way to go (sm)
being sadistic does not accomplish anything, and if people really wanted to help others, there would be different hiring practices to begin with, rather than hiring so-called substandard MTs only to rip them apart every chance they get, and then come on this board and mock them.

Do the overseas MTs get treated this way?  Seems to me they are thriving in this business...
i second the "again" poster -- where in the heck is professionalism?
i have never seen so much whining. Gripe if you have no work, gripe if you get a backup account, gripe on and on...how about either #1, call and request a DIFFERENT backup account and/or #2, just work the secondary with the intention of trying to get handy at it... or of course you COULD go back to MT school, as if you can only make $2/hr on your secondary account, you may need more training...better yet, get into another field!
At ease, soldier! This isn't a medical document. I repeat, this isn't a medical document. nm

Level I
After 25 years as a MT and I'm only a Level I? I think not, but with MQ, yes, that's all I've been able to get...
Level I
what's wrong is having 5 accounts to switch back and forth from and running out of work....
I never once said they were on the same level--sm
It is just my personal opinion that killing of any breathing living being is wrong. and since there are different *punishments* for killing a man and killing a beast, a *punishment* is still a *punishment* and I personally prefer not to be *punished* in any context. This life alone has been *punishment* enough. I simply prefer not to be *punished* in the after life for causing harm to another, be it human or animal. I try very hard to live my life by God's laws, which are far more important than any self-serving laws that man can think up. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Since I am not looking to debate this already dead issue any longer, I will not respond to any more posts concerning it. This was just my opinion and I am entitled to it without having to be criticised for it. Have a great day.
well on that level, i'm with you
100%. I think the vast majority of Americans are frustrated at the loss of jobs and the illegal immigration situation.
It is exp. level....sm
Newbies up until 2 years are MT level 1. I know 2 years and up is level 2 and I am not sure of MT level 3 how much exp that is.
And your educational level is?
and the more I read this board the happier I am that I'm getting out of this business. Too many "bully wannabes" in here with their name-calling and misplaced aggression. If your life sucks so much that you need to get off on "winning your little pretend cyber battle for the day" ROCK ON. I'm going to use my degree and talk to  intelligent people in the real world. Have fun!
Entry-Level MTs

Hello to all!

Can anyone give any advice on where I may be able to go and find an entry-level MT position?  I greatly appreciate all the responses I hope to receive.  Thanks all!

Entry Level MT's
MedQuist hires entry levels with good testing scores. Fax them your resume. Its worth a try. Good luck
High Level 4
I don't know if we're allowed to post it or not on here, but it's very decent for the MT world, plus they supposedly do raises periodically without you having to beg.
and your educational level is?
LOL

It's obvious, my dear. No need to respond but I know you're too angry not to.

Your turn.

Like shooting fish in a barrel.
It would take a new level of destitution, that's for sure

Entry level MT's
Hello.................I know all of you are tired of hearing about how hard it is to find a job at entry level.  I have two certificates from two separate programs.  I have been working for a clinic here where I live part time typing clinic notes.  It is only about two hours per day.  I found a lady on this site who said she would hire anybody if she could find somebody willing to work.  I emailed her and she promised to get me started asap.  That was a few months before Christmas and she still hasn't contacted me.  Does anybody know how to get started as entry level.  I truly need the work.  My part time is paying well but two hours a day is not very much.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.................
I'm in Level Cross, NC

Yep, he is from Level Cross
he lives about 1 1/2 miles from my house. See him at the gas station now and again.
Spheris pay to level 3/4
Recently began working for Spheris. After a month in mentoring received half the paycheck expected. Told the offer letter was wrong and there is no training pay. Also told after mentoring if blanks are left for a certain percentage of reports, incentive bonus is taken away. Is all this true? Can anyone respond to what is happening here? These are on ESL accounts. They take away incentive if the docs are not speaking English?
entry level
It is very true, I graduated college in 2004 and I am still looking to find a company that will hire me at the entry level.
No bonus level for IC as far as I know.
I know of no bonus level. On hold they limit how much you are permitted to type. I am just searching for something better. Tired of being bullied for things I did not type.
Depends on your exp level...sm
And whether you think it is a fair offer?
There is a certain level of decency,
and hate to break it to you, but docs make mistakes like everyone else. Everyone has a right to their opinion, such a shame you can't respect others'. Most every normal considerate doctor dictates it right the first time. How would you feel if EVERY report dictated had 2-3 or more corrections in 2-3 separate dictations. Impeding your linecount, impeding your productivity and for what?! Because some overeducated bozo with a sense of entitlement can't make up his/her mind?!
we are on a tier level sm--
for
.10 it is 1600 lpd
.095 it is 1400 lpd
.09 below 1400 ldp

paid every 2 weeks

What Document is that?
FootOnmyNeck?
Is your document (sm)
going "full screen" when you do this? If so, use Alt-V to pull the View menu and change the view back to normal. I'm guessing you are hitting Alt-V instead of Ctrl-V for pasting. If you are in full screen mode, there should be a little box floating that says "close full screen." Clicking that will change it back too.
Do you want a new document to...
to show the template or the new blank page within the current document to show the template?  In other words, is every report created in a document of its own or are all the reports created in one document containing several reports?  Either way, I would think a macro would be very useful. You could use a macro to insert the template on the blank page of new document or, if several reports are joined together to form a document, you could make a macro that would create section break at the end of the current report and insert the template on a new page.
Don't get mad, just document.
Save QA e-mails in an e-mail folder. Then when you get conflicting messages, simply forward the conflict to the QA and very respectfully say that this feedback seems to be conflicting, so there must be something you don't understand.
If for some reason they do this over the phone, I'd ask if you could get that in writing so you'll be able to keep the rules straight.
Don't get mad, just document
The corrections go into an on-line type folder. I have e-mailed the person in charge stating that feedback seems to be conflicting. The response? There wasn't any. One Editor correcting the work will say "good report" while the next will do just the opposite even though you set up/type basically the same way. Some days I get so upset I could literally cry. I love the work but how can one please when the editors are not on the same page? Really broken at heart over the whole thing. :-(
So I can see the document (sm)
otherwise, it runs off to the right of the page.
Did you try it elsewhere in the document?
When I entered the cm2 as a formatted auto correct, it did make everything suprascript; however, go to another line and type the cm2 there. It should work correctly. Just don't know why it won't on the original. Let us know if you're successful.
Maybe it has to do with how you have your document set up?

Verbatim for ESL too?
Geez, if that were the case on my account (not MQ), you wouldn't believe the crap I'd be putting out - "59 years old pt, denies of chest pain, comes to ER for short of breath," and I could go on and on.
Verbatim
I still don't understand, for example I have a doc who does about 20 lengthy bypass operations a week.  I have a 4-page "standard", that I just immediately pull up.  He never dictates it the same way twice, I just simply pull up my standard, put ears on, follow along and delete, insert, change and so on as he dictates, and that is as good as verbatim.
Since I am on verbatim also, I use whatever s/he says..
Jim for James etc....however, if the doc is clearly off track, he starts calling Mary by the name of Frank for instance (it has happened) then I flag it.
verbatim
The docs at a big teaching hospital I formerly worked for did not put punctuation marks after the word HOWEVER.  That's the way they wanted it and we were marked down if we added the comma.
verbatim, really?
Of course verbatim means typing EVERY SINGLE word they say, even when it's a side conversation, a snide comment, etc.  One thing I do that may not help them at all but makes me feel that I've at least let them know that I know - I enclose such words in quote marks to set them off from the real words.
Verbatim
As a private IC there was a prominent heart surgeon from Iran whose dictation I "cleaned up" constantly or he would have been the laughing stock of the community. Sometimes you have to "save face" for the client. If I worked for a national and they QA'd me from saving someone from a drastic error, I would immediately "quit." Another ESL went to hospital admin to tell them I was "his friend," I did not change the meaning but there were several instances when I had to make sense of things for him to cover the hospital's reputation. I was taught never to "change the meaning" and to put certain language "in quotes" although as an IC, I would always call the client first and they usually thanked me. When you work for another service, you can't do this, so it makes it very difficult.I guess you have to go with who pays you, but I would never, never type a senseless sentence.Good luck to those who have "bad QA assessments." They should know better.
verbatim
it's stupid and dangerous to type verbatim. Some hospitals stupidly insist on it cuz they believe we can't think for ourselves. They say "We've always done it that way."  Well God forbid you should TRY TO IMPROVE.  they say "well, you don't KNOW what he meant."  My answer to that is "well, YOU may not know, but I do!"  They just don't want to be bothered with having to actually think about it. Any decent trx with many years' experience and worth her salt GENERALLY knows what the doc really means but can't spit out, for one reason or another. I'm married to a doc - I know. But he DOES want us to leave blanks if we DON'T KNOW - better that than making something up, which he does see all the time from Spheris trxs. That's what happens when you hire people with one year of experience and don't monitor them closely, of which Spheris is guilty. And leaving a message for them on ESA doesn't work, cuz the doc won't see it till he goes to sign if off, and by that time, he has no earthly idea what he said. Nor does he care!
IF they got verbatim EXACTLY what they said,
they'd probably be in total shock at how ridiculous they actually sound when they dictate. Don't you just want to give them what they give you sometimes?
Verbatim
The problem is with the client profile. It should not ever have the word "verbatim" in it because the word by definition means "word for word" and we all know all of us from time to time and doctors especially speak garbage and have to be cleaned up. If with followed the client profile and transcribed "verbatim," screams would echo across the country. So I am all for removing that word from all the client profiles unless they truly want reports transcribed verbatim, word for word. We could do that, but it would not be much of a record.
verbatim, no BOS sm
Who are they? I would love to throw the BOS out the window, please e-mail me. Sick of all the new rules which don't amount to a hill of beans anyway at most times.
