South Padre Island is very hot in the summer months (been there many times as I live in Texas right now). I would wear a nice summer frock (the cooler the better). Personally, as a gift, I would search the internet for an appropriate Quincentera gift - or perhaps a nice silver bracelet. I have given these and the girls have been thrilled. The ones that I have attended were quite lavish - something like a very nice wedding reception with dancing, etc. Read up on it before you go so that you know the history behind it. Living in Texas where we have a large Hispanic population they are quite common. You will have a wonderful vacation there with your daughter. San Antonio is a quick (couple of hours) drive from there - so you might want to try and make it there to see some history and go to the River Walk - good food, very festive - but dress is casual - shorts are good, etc. Do you know where you will be staying yet?
