You certainly demand a lot and are so aggressive. Hope you cool down when you are with your family.

I certainly hope no one in your family ever needs defending. You might pack up and leave them too.

aggressive treatment sm
You are correct. I hope I never get that QA person!
I am SO tempted to be passive aggressive here.
This darn doctor wants me to send a copy of the report to another physician.  "Send a copy of this to foreign doctor's name."  No spelling, no address, nothing.  I finally find the address by accident just by scrolling through the directory.  The doctor has not only badly mispronounced the name, but gave the last name as the first name.  I'm really tempted to provide the phonetic spelling as he dictated it and tag it with a noted telling him to verify the spelling and provide the address.  Really, how on earth am I supposed to know the doctor's information?
passive aggressive men..dumped him too...LOL..nm

Passive Aggressive Personality Disorder...

You just described my ex, and he has passive aggressive personality disorder and oppositional defiant disorder.

Here's a description:  http://www.toad.net/%7Earcturus/dd/papd.htm.

I would also recommend reading "Why Does He Do That?  Inside The Minds of Angry and Controlling Men" by Lundy Bancroft.  You can buy it at Barnes and Noble and amazon.com.

My ex loves to annoy people for the fun of it.  The only way you can get him to do anything is to tell him not to do it.  And, of course, he is extremely controlling.  It is just my opinion, but I think that people with these types of personality problems just shouldn't be married to anyone.  Every time my ex gets a new girlfriend, I really just want to give the poor girl a hug.  If your husband has this type of personality, you really should divorce him.  Life is just too short to spend it with someone who makes everyone around them miserable.

Sounds like a textbook case of passive aggressive behavior.

I don't know about demand sm
I think is far more important to be good at whatever it is you do and enjoy it.  The cream always rises to the top.
HBO on Demand works for me....
Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, Sopranos episodes over and over and over....I never get sick of them!
DEMAND FOR FAIR PAY
I think we all need to stage a walk out! It adds insult to injury to know these companies will still charge the same amount to these hospitals and they will pocket the money, while we see a decrease! RISE UP EVERYONE!
you go ahead and demand that $75K
That will leave your position open for another person who doesn't think they are the MT queen. That "level of expertise" has been achieved by many hard-working individuals. They are out there with excellent skills and might be happy to take your place. Then you can spend your time pursuing something that will make you happy and allow you to feel fulfilled. I feel sorry for you that you are so bitter about your choice of employment. You still do not need to go out insulting other people and calling someone stupid. You do owe her an apology.
MT is just like any other business, - supply and demand -
if India is doing it at 8 cpl do you really think America is going to hold at 16? Yes, eight years ago, 16 cpl was not unheard of. Today, many MTSO's do not dare even raise rates. We have not raised rates for 3 years and don't intend to. Which means MT's don't get raises either. But you either deal with it or you get out and get into another field. "if wishes were horses, even poor men could ride"
naw - it's only the control freaks who demand....

and I cannot tolerate control freaks on any level anywhere in the life

been there, done that (control freaks in the life)....

Not necessarily. Supply & demand...
If prices are stable, quality will begin to count again. It's simply a cost vs benefit analysis. Just like some US MTs stink on the quality scale, I hear some Indian MTs are quite good. When the cost is stable enough that docs can't "settle" for poor quality (which many of them really don't care - it's just another requirement they must fulfill), then they'll look for quality again. Those of them who are quality MTs, will be able to compete, and with the increased competition based primarily on quality, the substandard MTs will go away, both Indian and US, but with cost being the sole driving factor, it's my belief that the quality of the average US MT is no longer much better that the average Indian MT.
Dud you send a demand payment letter? sm
You can find a sample one by Googling.

If you do win in small claims court, the judgement will give you legal ways to collect. For example, having the sheriff put liens on bank accounts, using a collection agency, etc.

Good luck to you. I have been in your shoes and, fortunately, the demand payment letter worked for me.
Tell him for demand jobs you charge .02 more a line - sm
maybe that will cool him off, or if he wants 12 hour TAT .01 more a line.
What future demand is there for higher-skilled MTs? Inquiring mind wants to know. SM
Seriously--with computers taking over the keyboarding and the electronic medical record replacing much (just HOW much?) of the currently dictated verbage, what need will healthcare providers have that we can train to fill at least the same remuneration if not better? What potential is there for remote work? I confess I'm very fond of my current commute down the hall to my office, and googling MT in England, which has had the EMR for some time now, suggests it's high time I figure out how I'm going to keep it. Any thoughtful or knowledgeable answers would be greatly appreciated.
Send a letter of demand payment (check Nolo Law websites) - sm
to find any legalese you may want to include on it), and send it via Registered Mail, so that she must sign for it and you will get a receipt proving she received it. If she doesn't pay by your demand date, file a claim at Small Claims Court. Very inexpensive, and if she doesn't pay, and doesn't show up at court (in your state), you win by default. If still no payment, you can return to Small Claims and put a lien on her car, her house, anything you want, which can be forcibly confiscated by the Sheriff and then you can sell it to recoup the money owed to you.
I hope this applies to companies like Medquist. I hope there
isn't a way they can get around it. I REALLY hope.
family is family wheter 3 or 8 sm
i live in MA and $1200-$1400 a month is what good health insurance costs, ie $20-$40 copays.  it was just passed into law that if you live in MA you have to have medical insurance so without being self-employed, you can go right to BCBS etc and get a plan directly from the major health insurace companies, but for a family plan and a decent income bracket, forget it.  the prices are outragous.  right now my husband pays $120 a week for family plan and this is after his employer pays 30% of the total cost.  we have $20 copays, but we have a $2000 individual deductable per year with a $4000 family deductible cap.  so when my daughther needed her tonsils out, $2000 and when my son broke his arm, $2000.  someone on this board has to be able to tell you what they pay for insurance through their company as an employee.  good luck.
Hey, cool.

very cool, thanks a lot.

Cool thanks!

Cool Ace

That's not cool, however,
we always leave one of us home to pass out candy.  I don't feel right taking my kids out to get candy from all the neighbors when I've closed my  house up and didn't pass any out to their kids.
Cool, thanks!
nm
Cool, I might do the same (sm)
It is something I love to do and never have time.  The animals at my house like to paint too.
Wow, that is cool!
I wish MY middle name was Lennon, LOL! Yeah, "imagine" what John would have to say about the current state of affairs - I have a feeling he would NOT think 2 kindly of Mr. Bush or the war - remember War Is Over (If U Want It) he and Yoko put on billboards all across the world to end the war in Vietnam? I don't think he'd be 2 popular with the Republicans, LOL!
Really COOL!

cool. thx.

WOW! That's cool!
I always wondered how that works, and how one winds up in Judge Judy's court room? Do they know beforehand or is it like a surprise when they show up at court??? :)
It WAS cool!! (sm)

He filed a claim in Small Claims Court in the state where he was living.  Apparently the staff of these shows watch the dockets and pick ones they think will make a good show because he got a call from Judge Joe Brown's staff who wanted him to be on that show and the next day got a call from Judge Judy's staff who wanted him to be on her show.  He chose Judge Judy because he would not have to travel as far to go to her show.  It was all very interesting.  He did not think so at the time he was going through it - it was very stressful for him - but in the end he was happy with the outcome and glad he did it.

The point of it is that the show is "arbitration", it is not an actual court of law.  He had to sign papers saying that he accepted the "arbitration" and if he did not like the outcome he gave up his right to recourse in a court of law.  He chose that route because he felt that if he took it to court, though he probably would get a judgment against the defendant, he would still have to collect.  But with JJ, the show paid the judgment and he got a check for the whole amount, tax free, plus $500 for showing up on the show, within 7 to 10 days.

WOW! Now that's really really cool! lol
One more question, does the defendant then have to pay the court??? I just find this so interesting :)
Way cool, Boo. Way cool!

very cool - thanks ! nm

Cool - I like it. nm

It's Cool.

Not the best, not the worst.  Very easy to set up and use.  You may need to fiddle with the settings for speeding up and slowing down dictation, but that's not hard to do.  I'm available if you need help!  I used it all through school and did just fine with it.

Good luck!

Too cool
I think I will really think about this before vacation this year. Kids watch DVD in vehicle anyway!

That is very cool! Thanks!

Ha, that's too cool-Think
I'll try it this summer some beach somewhere! LOL! Thanks so much for the info!
Cool!
Thanks MIMT for the info.  I will be working for a company that used to be called Michiana Transcribers, Inc. out of Osceola, Indiana.  They have merged with MD-IT.  My place of employment where I worked as the in-house supervisor for their transcription department terminated all four transcriptionists' positions, including mine, and are outsourcing to MD-IT (Michiana Transcribers, Inc.).  They have hired all of us to be at-home transcriptionists, transcribing for the same physicians/therapists we have all these years.  We are a little aprehensive to say the least.  Any information on this company would be greatly appreciated.
this is so cool..
thank you thank you thank you

I was looking at keyboards with touch pads, but wasn't too thrilled on the results.
how cool!
I'm running to Radio Shack tomorrow!  I cannot wait to hear what I have been missing.  Maybe they will give me a raise now for not sending to many QA submissions.  LOL!
too cool
thanks. you can never have enough websites
Cool!
Your information helps a lot.  Thank you!
