Each state has different laws. Where I live, if I have clients in the same state I live in, yes I ne
have clients from another state, no I do not need a license. Every state is different. I checked with my attorney and the State Business offices.
why yes the quality of air where i live is quite different than where the city people live.
Lots of pollution.  That's why everyone is moving away from the city and areas zoned for multiple housing units and low income housing and trailer parks.  Population is dense and near manufacturing.  So yes, the air is different but millions of people pay a little extra for the quality, the space and privacy afforded to those who move out of polluted crowded areas such as you defend.  There is always a reason why some areas and housing is cheaper than others.  Maybe it is the air and maybe it's something you can't quite put your finger on but you know you would prefer not to live in certain areas.  You know what I mean or are you living in one of those areas?  They tell after awhile you block out the sounds, the smells and get used to the pollution.  I don't know.  I didn't stay long enough to test the theory.  My mental and physical health is way too important to me.
florida not small state - over 20 million people

Where are you located? city/state.

Check with state and city

Portland has just decided to require all all I/C's have a business license.  Also check with your state to register your business name so you can put it on your checking account, etc.  It does cost but if you are a business and run it as a business you pay the the business costs as well as reaping the awards of the tax write off's.  But you need to check with your state and city for requirements.

Check with your city and state.
I only found out about the license because the city came by asking me questions about my neighbors running a business out of their home for their investigation. They got caught and had huge fines. I now make sure to stay current on my licenses!
Largest city in the state ...
and no jobs to be seen with unemployment double digits. Working outside of the home wasn't the issue, the point of the thread was overhiring by companies and not being able to make a living while tied to the company's minimum requirments. When there are so many MTs around the world and in the US, companies can overhire to keep their TATs low and keep us earning zip.
MQ offices- If there is an MQ office in your city/state, is it possible to

apply for an MQ job outside of your state?   I think I have been blacklisted from the MQ here in Birmingham, AL.  I worked part-time for them when they first setup an office here, and they were named Transcription Limited, I believe. They only paid 6-7 cpl at that time.  Well I worked for them a couple years and then opportunity came where I could work for another transcription company, and I am assuming was a competitor to them in the Birmingham market.   Mind you, I left in good standing (so I thought), two-weeks notice and all, and was an exceptional employee, but years later, every time I have tried to apply through them, I get turned down.   So I am wondering if I could work for another MQ office outside of Alabama, or will they refer me to the Birmingham office?

What about naming the city and state of the company?
mm
Line rates by city/state...

can anyone share what going rates are for IC and transcription services  in their area?

I am required to be licensed with my state and with my city.

With this site, you can search by name, state, city, etc. sm

Have you taken a course? Do you live in a town/city that - sm
maybe you could get some PRN work or part time work to get your resume started?
If you live in or near a large city sm

Check the Yellow Pages under "Dictation Services" or "Transcription Services." Some of them train in-house for several weeks and are willing to work with newbies.

Good luck!

What I do and have excellent results, put doctors name in google, city, state and it always comes up
nm
Depends where you live? Small town big city? sm
Hospital billing?  Clinic billing?
I live in the Kansas City area and this summer we have had a rash of pit bull attacks especially

in the Independence, MO area.  The city governments have passed laws banning pit bulls and last week something like 100+ pitbulls were picked up by animal control or dropped off at the city pound and all were destroyed.

Personally, I think the owners of these animals should be held just as accountable as the dog.  Well, I guess maybe putting the owner to sleep is a bit extreme.

I'm so sorry about your lab.

What state do you live in?
Here in Texas, all they ever do is talk about it, never do it.
What state do you live in?
m
what state do u live in?
and the clerks sort the mail. i've never heard of that before. maybe its different in the larger states?
don't know what state U live in....nm

Did you ever say which state you live in?
You are making remarks that a breast exam required for driver's license and yet you have not stated which state. Something screwy here.
Congratulations!! What state do you live in?
Sounds like a great job
I wonder if the state where you live offers
In Georgia they do have this, and a person who is convicted of a felony and completes the sentence requirements then has their rights restored, such as voting and the ability to officially answer "No" when asked about a felony conviction. Supposedly the information would not be available to a potential employer and most others, though I believe some are still privy to the information.
It depends on the state. In NC where I live,
you must be legally separated for a year before you can get a divorce. The legal separation is treated like a divorce though, so anything accrued by either party after the separation papers are signed are not considered marital property. I think she may want to obtain a second opinion just to be on the safe side.
I live in Washington state up in

the Cascade mountains.

The only AC I have on is a small wall unit in my office when I type, but don't really need it very much.  Everybody wants to move up here.  Yikes, housing prices going up because of that.  I have a 1650 square foot house, 4 bedrooms, not too big, not too small.  Just hubby, 2 dogs and myself.  No water bill because we are on our own well.  No sewer bill because we are on a septic.  Use propane for the water heater and heat in the winter, about $500 bucks gives me half a tank, but that lasts us almost a whole year.   We don't use the central heat very much in the winter, just wall units.  Also, thinking of putting in a wood stove for heat.

what state you live in Pammie? Sometimes sm
things need to be worded differently depending on the laws of your state.
where do you live jason (state is fine)

I live approx. 25 min. from a state capital (rather not say), but seems everywhere you go - sm
around my area whether it be a Subway chain restaurant, small corner convenient store, etc., these are all being run by foreigners (mainly Indian). I really do not want to come across discriminatory, but I know man U.S. born citizens who cannot get the financial backing to start a business. Why shouldn't we come first?
Buy local. The local stores pay taxes to support your city and state. (SM)
Using online and catalogues does nothing to promote the local economy.  We complain about outsourcing and about the big companies gobbling up all the work so the jobs at local hospitals are gone, yet we do the same thing when we buy on ebay, catalog, and these web sites that may be located any place in the world as their primary business location.
NO - common sense does not dictate that, the STATE in which you live does!
In my state, NO I do not have to have a business license unless I have clients in my state, which I do not. So, therefore, I do not have to have a license! I have checked with my attorney, my state office, and my State Representative to be sure I was receiving the correct answers and all said the same thing!

So, my advice to anyone asking is contact your State office.
what state does she live in? Was she prosecuted and sent to prison or just held in jail?

It all depends on what state you live in and what their laws and requirements are. Check with your

I live in Washington state and the health department posted it on the internet.
Here is the link to the information for this state, but every state probably has the same thing.

that's the million $ question! sm
I know how you feel, girlfriend! I'm barely hanging on, having to sit and work everyday!  Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated on how to get over this "hump"!
God I would not in a million years...
work for that person. How ridiculous. But I wonder where she works? Have my suspicions....
If you don't like Red Bull, there are a million others to try.
:+
No, a million times no.
They have certainly not done thier best as advocates for MTs. They've done thier best to do whatever it takes to make them more money, not us - especially the part about the visible characters only - that one really got me riled! I have since dropped my membership with the AAMT or whatever they call themselves now, and let my acredidation lapse - it never helped me get a job anyway. Actually, I was turned down for several because with the CMT after my name, I was "overqualified." There are so many things they could have done as an advocate organization for MTs, first and foremost making sure that transcription of American records stayed in America. Then they could have worked with the MTSOs to advocate for fairer pay for MTs, keeping up with inflation, etc so that MTs could actually make a living doing what we do. I think that anyone in the AAMT/AHDI is so far removed from the career of an MT that they really have no idea what it's about anymore - kind of like the government, but that's for a different board =)
I know you'll justify this with a million
lines of -- that's not what I meant - I meant this or that or this or that. Believe me, as a kid whose mother had that YAHOO SHE'S BACK IN SCHOOL attitude, it HURTS. Your kids sense it, and its damaging to them. Try to hide your joy that they're out of your hair - for their sake.  Not trying to bash, just trying to show their side. The bus stop used to be in front of my house for years, and first days of school, always 10 or 12 parents standing with their kids. There were always 1 or 2 mothers who would cheer just as you, as the bus pulled away, and their kids were always looking back out the window at their mothers cheering. Always made the rest of us cringe for those poor kids...
for that much - I would keep working. Now if I hit the PowerBall at 100 million - sm
I'd quit working and open up an orphanage or home for the homeless and down children in this country. Ideally, it would be a horse ranch - farm type.

I would love to help all of the poor and starving children in this country, even helpless moms too! That is my dream.

I do have 2 children of my own and very fortunate to have a great MT job with a good hard-working husband.

That is a million dollar question

I think they are just being pains.  There are some people they bend over backwards for, some they don't work with at all and unfortunately I am at the lower end of the stick, it seems.   I had a coworker quit and went to work for an on-line service because they would not let her have Sundays off so she could go to church with her family even though they had adequate coverage on Sunday and by Thursday we were always out of work.

Work for a company in a state that has no state income tax
I think there are 3 or 4 out there (Florida, Texas, and a few others.)  Then you really avoid the tax situation.
HAHAHA ... Now there's your million-dollar idea!
.
Million Dollar Movie? Was on every night...sm
on TV and you could watch the same movie for a week?  I remember a lot of James Cagney movies shown on that Million Dollar Movie - *lol*
This question has been asked 1 million times.
First, start by looking through the posts on this board. You should be able to find plenty of information through those postings.
Agree 1 million percent about the elderly
HMOs is what I assume you mean as managed care??? I don't like them at all but am stuck with one through the city insurance when I was hurt on the police dept. However, I have been extremely fortunate in Virginia Beach area to have some of the best doctors and the payment is low. I have been through the ringer and back int the whew 14 yrs now since my accident. But I have never been denied a test or a treatment. I did have my beloved neurosurgeon leave because of HMO regulations. But he came back to the area once they met his demands. He is a patient first doctor hands down all of mine are. Where are you from. I here all this garbage about terrible health care etc. etc. I honest to God have had zero problems with mine. I could pay extra and get the pick your own doctor insurance for about dbl what I pay for an HMO but all my doctors are on the list and I am happy. My dad is on Medicare at 80 and has had no problems with any care. Nor did my mom before she passed away. Which was her fault she wouldn't go to the doctor and had breast CA but that's a whole other topic. When she finally did go to the doc and it had spread to her bones, she got great care and at a minimal cost. Several operations, tests, chemo, radiation the works...I don't understand. They took Medicare or Medicaid whichever one you get when you are of age and got the AARP supplement and did fine with it...
