Send a letter of demand payment (check Nolo Law websites) - sm

to find any legalese you may want to include on it), and send it via Registered Mail, so that she must sign for it and you will get a receipt proving she received it. If she doesn't pay by your demand date, file a claim at Small Claims Court. Very inexpensive, and if she doesn't pay, and doesn't show up at court (in your state), you win by default. If still no payment, you can return to Small Claims and put a lien on her car, her house, anything you want, which can be forcibly confiscated by the Sheriff and then you can sell it to recoup the money owed to you.

Dud you send a demand payment letter? sm
You can find a sample one by Googling.

If you do win in small claims court, the judgement will give you legal ways to collect. For example, having the sheriff put liens on bank accounts, using a collection agency, etc.

Good luck to you. I have been in your shoes and, fortunately, the demand payment letter worked for me.
Send him a certified letter with bill demanding payment within
within five days from receipt (make it RRR). You have your proof that you notified him. If it is not picked up or signed for, you have your proof that occurred to. All these things go in your favor when trying to collect money. that's just a starter. I would never have let him get away with it this long. Once would have been it.
No brainer here. Stop payment on first check before you issue 2nd check.
You can check out these websites...

Or you could always call around to local offices to find out what they charge.  Good luck.

If it were me, I'd send a letter to all MTs sm
with a new policy whereby if any work was not returned within TAT, that work would be assigned to another MT, who will be the only one getting paid for that work.

The work has to keep moving.
Send a letter
Send a very nice letter to the head of the Human Resources and Medical Records Dept and tell them what you are looking for and if they use a service ask them if they would get back to you either via fax, mail or E-mail (include a self stamped envelope) so that you could contact that service.  It is hard for me to believe that all the hospitals in Colorodo use services -- guess Oregon is very slow as our hospitals in the Portland area only use for overflow and still employ large staffs and some at home.   But if they use a service it could be one of the larger ones and if you go with that service does not mean you will get that hospital account.  Where are you located if you are calling long distance to work at the hospital and yet are willing go go in-house?  Just curious.  Also see if there is a local chapter of AAMT's in the city you want to work and see if you can network through them.  Good luck.   Patti
did you send a letter first?
or just file in Small Claims Court. I live in a different state than her, but I believe I can file in my state because I did the work here.

I just happened to be checking my post right now when you posted reply. Weird!
send a certified letter
to the company, and make sure you put a CC: to an esquire with an address - if you have to, just make up a name, they never check.

Put in the letter that you are sending a CERTIFIED written notice giving them such and such number of days to respond to the letter from the time it is signed for receipt to pay the amount that is owed to you. Notify them in your letter that you will be contacting small claims court to file a suit (which can be done out of state), as well as contacting their state attorney general's office of illegal business practices. Make sure you put down who their state attorney general is so that the company knows you are not kidding around.

write a letter and send it to the higher ups.
Also, I think PC Magazine and other websites have complaint areas where you can turn businesses in for crummy customer service.  The company would rather satisfy the customer than get bad press.  Also, complain to the BBB or the FTC.  You can make yourself heard.
Send a very nice letter, thanking them for
the job, but your situation has changed and you can't pass up this opportunity you have right now. Say you will be happy to work out a 2-week notice if they need you. Then you're leaving on good terms but they can tell that you don't need to work 2 more weeks if they don't need you.
Step one, send a Certified Letter...

Return Receipt Requested (CLRRR). Keep the signed receipt as proof that they have received the letter. Your letter to them should outline what service you performed for them and what is owed for that service, the time by which you expect to recieve payment, the form that payment should be in, and what the next step(s) you take will be should they not pay up. Also, if the CLRRR is returned to you, keep it to show that you tried to contact them and go to Step Two, which would be to file a Small Claims judgement against them. Depending on where you live, this can be done at a District Justice's office and does not require the services of a lawyer. If you have to go to that step, make sure that you include the cost of filing that judgement in what you are owed. Just showing that you're smart enough to know what to do and how to get it done should be enough motivation for them to pay up. Good luck!

I check no fewer than 5 websites or 5 google searches
often I go further than that, but I've been doing this a long time and get stumped a heckava lot less than I used to.

I basically search at least 5 different ways and check at least 5 websites before giving up. That's presumably after I've checked my own word books, of course.
don't cancel ADVANCE subscriptions - just send an email or letter

detailing how disgusted you are with the fact that they are promoting offshore training and offshoring transcription.  This is the third article on this sort of topic that the magazine has done in a year.

I find this particularly offensive because so many hospitals/medical record departments get the magazine and if they see this, then companies like Spheris, CBay, Healthscribe, and others will be getting called to come do their transcription!

So please, don't cancel your subscription, just voice your opinion and comments.  Thank you.

Request that they place a stop payment on the check, reissue, and mail priority or overnight mail
If they refuse or invent unbelievable excuses, you'll know you have a problem. If MY check was a week late, there are many months I would be in deep trouble.
I realize checks occasionally do get lost in the mail. If they are 100% sure it was mailed, then they shouldn't mind issuing another.

Be firm and be persistent.
Apparently, this is going to be a live check that comes with a letter.
I send one quarterly check to the Dept of Treasury which --sm
distributes to appropriate categories. I also send a separate check to NC Dept of Revenue for state taxes.
They steal your money and then send you a check and you are thrilled. Give me a break.
Check your records and report what she has paid you, you do not have to send in a copy a 1099 - nm
I don't know about demand sm
I think is far more important to be good at whatever it is you do and enjoy it.  The cream always rises to the top.
If it's a business letter you use a colon. if it's a personal letter you use a comma. nm

HBO on Demand works for me....
Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, Sopranos episodes over and over and over....I never get sick of them!
I think we all need to stage a walk out! It adds insult to injury to know these companies will still charge the same amount to these hospitals and they will pocket the money, while we see a decrease! RISE UP EVERYONE!
you go ahead and demand that $75K
That will leave your position open for another person who doesn't think they are the MT queen. That "level of expertise" has been achieved by many hard-working individuals. They are out there with excellent skills and might be happy to take your place. Then you can spend your time pursuing something that will make you happy and allow you to feel fulfilled. I feel sorry for you that you are so bitter about your choice of employment. You still do not need to go out insulting other people and calling someone stupid. You do owe her an apology.
MT is just like any other business, - supply and demand -
if India is doing it at 8 cpl do you really think America is going to hold at 16? Yes, eight years ago, 16 cpl was not unheard of. Today, many MTSO's do not dare even raise rates. We have not raised rates for 3 years and don't intend to. Which means MT's don't get raises either. But you either deal with it or you get out and get into another field. "if wishes were horses, even poor men could ride"
naw - it's only the control freaks who demand....

and I cannot tolerate control freaks on any level anywhere in the life

been there, done that (control freaks in the life)....

Not necessarily. Supply & demand...
If prices are stable, quality will begin to count again. It's simply a cost vs benefit analysis. Just like some US MTs stink on the quality scale, I hear some Indian MTs are quite good. When the cost is stable enough that docs can't "settle" for poor quality (which many of them really don't care - it's just another requirement they must fulfill), then they'll look for quality again. Those of them who are quality MTs, will be able to compete, and with the increased competition based primarily on quality, the substandard MTs will go away, both Indian and US, but with cost being the sole driving factor, it's my belief that the quality of the average US MT is no longer much better that the average Indian MT.
Tell him for demand jobs you charge .02 more a line - sm
maybe that will cool him off, or if he wants 12 hour TAT .01 more a line.
You certainly demand a lot and are so aggressive. Hope you cool down when you are with your family.
What future demand is there for higher-skilled MTs? Inquiring mind wants to know. SM
Seriously--with computers taking over the keyboarding and the electronic medical record replacing much (just HOW much?) of the currently dictated verbage, what need will healthcare providers have that we can train to fill at least the same remuneration if not better? What potential is there for remote work? I confess I'm very fond of my current commute down the hall to my office, and googling MT in England, which has had the EMR for some time now, suggests it's high time I figure out how I'm going to keep it. Any thoughtful or knowledgeable answers would be greatly appreciated.
No payment
Would her name be Nina? If so, I can help with contact information. Please e-mail me at ellen1@mindspring.com with MT no payment in the subject line
One payment

Look at your 1040 and you will see that your taxes owed include SS and Federal.  So when you make your estimates it is only one check.

non payment

infovision software, Kolkata, is not paying my dues (salary + others), resigned during Feb, now it April, Can any good fellow suggest anything?  Not only me there are at least 50 MTs i know , who are also not paid after working with them.

payment for VR
So the account I work on has just purchased a voice recognition software.  I see that a lot of the VR is paying about 4.5 to 5 ( and higher ) cents per line.  Does this include the whole line or just the editing corrections you actually do for them?  Please tell me that it is all the lines on the page.  How could it be calculated any other way?  I actually don't know yet if I will even be getting the installation as there are a lot of MTs working on this account & don't see how there could possibly be enough room for all of us.  I might just have to work in another part-time job.  Thanks.

Just wondering what alternatives there are when you don't get paid for work that was done and it's been months!!!!  Two people (individual MTs) owe me money from back in February and I can't get them to respond, etc.  HELP!!

Just ask for payment - with interests
1 .If you have no contracts - you have been doped.
2. If you have a contract -
Use it legally.
3. Stop all transcriptions at once until they have paid.
4. Report to the AAMT the incident with the contract, work loads, time and date.
That is my mortgage payment alone - sm
Our expenses for the month are about 5-6K per month.
MTSO payment
I am a very small MTSO as most are aware and I always pay my gals prior to mortgage, electric or anything.  But I also want you guys to know that all of these fringes that you guys want, 800 numbers, direct deposit, etc. cost us money and the more money we have to put out the less money we can pay you.  I do not feel that you should be so upset about direct deposit, if you get you checked maile don time and it takes the mail 2-3 days you have to allow for that in your budget.    I do  not make that much off my IC's 2 to 3 cents per line and I put in a lot of work to make that 2 to 3 cents per line.  We have expenses to cover also.  If we charge our accounts more, they will look elsewhere or over to India they go.  So we have to charge fairly to the accounts and pay you guys fairly also.  Remember the saying -- until you walk a mile in my shoes, don't critize.  I am seriously thinking about cutting back to working only for myself, making enough to cover my bills and retirement fund and let go of a couple of accounts and gals as it gets quite hectic balancing the amount of work -- either too much or not enough -- payments,  QA, decent help and just keeping my sanity.  So that is where I am probably headed after the first of the year.   I think I simply want to be responsible for just me in this coming year.   Hope all have a Merry Christmas.
It is a scam. I got one that says I never sent payment and they
are going to report me, but it doesn't say what the item is.  I've also gotten one where someone says they are trying to Paypal me money but it won't go through and I don't have any items pending.    If ever in doubt never click on a link in an e-mail but go directly to the website and enter/view any information there.
On my larger accounts I close out on the 25th to 28th, since I keep daily line counts in an Excel program, I print that out, do my bill in Quick Books, get the bill to clients by 28th to 29th, I give a 1% discount on my larger accounts if they pay within 48 hours and they do so I have my checks always by the 1st.   I have two smaller accounts that I bill on the 15th so I have cash flow throughout the month.  I have never been stiffed, they have never been late, they never question my line counts and always write thank you on the invoice.   This works for me.  I know everyone says don't give away 1% as a discount but it works for me so I do it.
Non or late payment
Just giving all MTs out there that a company called med-tech is not paying or paying their employees late.  I have done some research on them and have found severla employees complaining of this.
Non or late payment
Gosh! We work hard enough for peanuts as it is!
with what you are getting in terms of payment...

Then outsources like us are getting ripped off...

I barely make $5 for 8 hours.. you think that's fair. .. cause I sure *&%# don't.

Thank you!! I did request a stop payment and a nm
wire transfer or overnight but have had no response yet but it hasn't been that long either. Waiting for a response. I did email someone else who also works for them but no response from that yet either. My point is exactly as you said, being a week late, i am in deep trouble and it has costed me a lot as i go from check to check so like me and my kiddos are starving waiting on this check, lol. on the other hand, i make good money with this acct and don't want to tick them off as i love this acct but i am in a bind needing my money.
Payment to Santa's House

I agree but ask for full payment
good luck
...maybe incentive pay like OT or payment for bonus
Should I make the car payment, pay the electricity, or
buy a few small Christmas presents for the kids? Of course, the electric company won't wait one more week to get their money.
The Jan. 15 payment is for last quarter in 2007.
I ask for partial payment upfront if they were

Make a tax payment every pay period online.
I use the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System because I also am incapable of saving money. When I deposit my paycheck, I immediately go online and transfer a percentage of my check to the IRS. You can do it weekly, biweekly, quarterly--anytime you choose. It requires setting up an account with your SS# or tax ID#. Then you designate a bank account to be debited. They snail mail you a password and PIN about a week later. As soon as you receive your PIN, you're set to go. When you make a payment, you're given a confirmation number. The system records each payment and the date it was processed so you have a record of all your payments and the date the payment was made when you organize your tax info at the end of the year.
My mortgage payment is nearly that much. Ten year loan.
