I opened a savings account ...
and I put 30% of everything I earn in there. Then I can be sure of not spending the money and it is available for the quarterly payments.

If I didn't do that, I KNOW I would spend it and then having trouble coming up with the payment.
actually I buy I bonds, can't trust myself with a savings account

where does your mom manage? sm
My dad managed stores in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky.

I guess you are probably as surprised as I am that anyone would think that managers in big retail giants don't make good money.
use someone else to manage
Have someone else contact her as a manager besides yourself and explain to her the rules are for everybody and have to be uniform.
How do you manage that?
Gosh it must take quite a balancing act to get them all done? What do you tell one when you have to do the other? How do you decide which one you will do? Do you have other people that will cover for you when need be? Telephone must be ringing off the chain all the time....
How do you MQ employees manage
to get in your 1200 lines in only 8 hours? I am having a dickens of a time, lots of ESLs, new account, etc. Just how do you do it? I figure it will take me 12 hours! Do you ask them to approve OT or what? I'm new at this, need to know. Have to have that insurance.
Yes, I do manage to get enough work on my
account through Amherst, at least so far, but I guess I should just be considered extremely lucky.
How can I manage 2 jobs. I am currently
working as an employee with good benefits, but I hate the company.... treated like a doormat.  I work as IC part time for another company that I love and am very productive and love the sofware platform.  I am considering trying to do the 1000 line requirement for the full-time in order to keep benefits, and then do 1000 lines for the company as IC.  How does one juggle this type of situation?
Thanks to all... I did manage a chuckle or two
from your stories.  But why does it have to be like this?  Just because we work at home?  I think I will go on strike.  Just keep my office clean since that is the only place I get to be these days.  I have a reprieve from my second job tonight so I think I will just close my eyes, close my ears and shut off all other senses to the slobs I live with and leave for night for my women's group party I did not plan to go to.  Thank to all.
Phone savings
I am trying to come up with a solution for all of this.  I have a remote office at my Mom's 10 minutes from my home (in another state actually) where I have DSL.  I have a phone line there that I use for my fax machine.  They installed the DSL on my Mom's regular line (for some reason).  I just pay her for the DSL and the extra phone line.  I could get rid of the extra line if I could figure out a way to receive faxes.  I am thinking about changing from DSL to cable internet there.  Here at home I have dial-up internet and 2 phone lines.  My daughter is a heavy computer and phone user so there is really no other way that I can come up with.  We have cell phones, but are in a very poor service area.  My remove office is in an even poorer cell phone service area.  We have satellite available here at home, and I do not think the company I subcontract with now would care if I used it.  However, Directway is the only satellite option and it is pretty expensive.  Then again, it would not require 2 phone lines, and with Vonage we might actually come out better.
I do know how to manage a team, obviously,

since I have my own service.  I know that you can't put someone with much less experience in a position over a bunch of people with a lot of experience.  It just does not work.  I not only have a lot of MT experience, but I have been a service owner for quite a few years.  Before that, I worked in a hospital transcription department with a lot of seasoned MTs.  Through the years you see a lot of supervisory changes and what it boils down to is the experienced MTs need/want someone who knows more than they do, someone they can go to for help, when they need it.  With someone less experienced, they can't.

One of the big problems people had with Medquist when it started was that the "suits" were running things - not people who actually knew what they were doing when it came to transcription.  You have to know both sides of it.  And I can tell you from years and years of experience, it doesn't work when you try to put someone with less experience over those with lots of experience.  The seasoned MTs have NO respect for someone who knows less than they do.

Sorry, but that's the way it is.

savings for the company but
not such a happy ending for the 21 FTEs who no longer have jobs..?

Our company is just now switching over to VR and they keep assuring us that they do not forsee cutting staff, but I'm not so sure.
Hope You Have Some Savings!!

It took my husband's daughter-in-law FOREVER to get her first unemployment check. Right now they are being indundated with applications for the new Honda plant that is being built in Greensburg. A few weeks ago they opened applications for 18 non-production jobs and got 7500 applications. This past Sunday they opened applications for production jobs and by Monday morning they have received more than 6000 applications. Honda is only allowing applications from 21 counties surrounding the plant. There are even people moving from Ohio in order to be eligible just to complete an application. It's crazy!!  I don't know if that has anything to do with unemployment benefits being slow to get but all Indiana state agencies are screwed up now with our governor moving to privatize everything.

Good Luck!

Were you exhausted? How do you manage?
I'm finding it hard to do the things I wanted.  I also work the spli shift thing, but im so tired.  I dont know if im trying to work too much and i just need to go to PT or what.  Also, I would like to be more instructional, work with maps, field trips to the museums and such.  How did you do that?
I manage just fine...
Wow... um, yes. I get plenty of work done. I'm not in the country and I use headphones and the noise of being outside doesn't bother me or interfere just like indoor noises (the heater, the ice maker, creaking floorboards) don't bother me inside. I also have no trouble seeing on my laptop screen and I don't have anything special for it. And, uh, it would have to be a serious insect swarm for the sound of bugs to be loud enough to keep me from hearing my work.

I don't work from bed because I'm lazy, I work in bed (occasionally, rather than calling in sick) because I have joint issues that make me more fatigued when sitting up typing all day. I would not put myself in a position where I was falling asleep on the job (I'm not lying down, I'm sitting up straight, just my back is supported and my legs are extended rather than hanging down).

I am a professional and I've been in this business a long time, I just don't see any reason to be trapped behind a desk if I don't have to be. We are fortunate enough to work in a career that gives us some perks like flexibility and a home environment, so I try to make the most of it. Being happy and comfortable enhances my production and I don't get burnt out as easily when I can change the scenery a little every now and then. Everyone should obviously work in whatever fashion helps them succeed but I don't think there's anything wrong with sitting on the porch on a nice day or working from a comfy spot on not so nice ones.

To each his own, I guess... I'd bet there are plenty of pajama-wearing MTs around here that are grateful to be able to have that option. I don't work in jammies but I do kick back once in awhile and work with my situation to the best of my ability.

Anyway... it works for me. I was just making the suggestion for others that struggle with pain issues or would like an occasional alternative to the same old desk.
I manage my former boss's websites (he has 2), --
other than that, sell some stuff I don't need anymore on ebay now and then...did about $200 a month for about a year.....got rid of most everything though I really wanted to dump...have a few things now I need to list so maybe I will get lucky this month!
Grocery savings, and web link

We shopped at Aldi Foods when all our kids were at home - teenagers and toddlers at the same time - this was a big help with keeping grocery $$ lower.  I think they take only cash or ATM (no credit cards - which is probably a good thing).

Gardening and canning your own produce can help save money on your grocery bill, as well as homegrown produce is better for you nutritionally.  It is time consuming, however.

I swear, the people who manage
this site should put a button right under  'main board' that says 'MQ Gripe Board' so that the seemingly hundreds of disgruntled MQ'ers can gripe and  argue all day long and the rest of us would be spared.  Every page of this board is filled with arguments between the MQ gripers and the few MQ folks who claim they are happy.  At some point you'd think the (MQ people) would realize that non MQ'ers don't want to hear this stuff every single day, all day long.
Anyone want to do a group savings club?

Just trying to drum up a little motivation.

If we pact to do 100 lines a day more each day that we earn and then put that net amount into savings each paycheck, it can add up a bit!

For me, that would be 500 lines a week or $160 a month gross.  By the time my taxes are taken out, that's about $131 a month net and THAT adds up to $1572 a year!

Any takers?!  See who earns the most for it or heck even stays with it?!

Wow! Congratulations! Taxes, then savings....
If you want to take time off to be with your daughter, how about asking for a reduced schedule for a while instead of whatever you have now? That way, you can decide later if you really do want to keep the job or if you don't, and you won't be rushing into any decision in the heat of the moment. Best wishes to you.
It is very difficult to manage this program.
It has a lot of flaws, locks up frequently, some issues with voice quality, etc. I would put it at the bottom of the list of considerations.
eh I like it. It's kinda like a savings plan for me.
Plus I get the child tax credit. Usually get around 5 grand back. Nice. but after buying an HDTV, computer and two Xbox 360s last year this one will alllll go to the credit card companies!
JUST A REMINDER - IT IS DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIMES

At least we no longer have a cough, not to mention the savings $$$.

not true, I make good $$$ and manage to come

Poll-Daylight Savings Time

Like or dislike?

Personally I dislike it very much. It changes everything with my sleep cycle, work cycle, and even my emotions.  It is too much of a bodily adjustment that I personally would wish not to experience twice a year.  Anyone else???

email back and mention how you don't know how they manage on so little.

what is the rationale for going digital, your savings on mileage?
you need to sell the doc on the advantages HE will receive from digital, i.e. better quality = fewer blanks/errors, ability to STAT, perhaps even improve the TAT on his transcription?
Yeah, you have to be a doctor now to manage your own care!
I still have daily fevers of 100-102 18 months postop, so I know what you mean. Does the 4 abscesses draining for weeks on end tell them anything? I had severe hypertension that despite 17 doctors along with PAs and nurses could not diagnose despite "the worst headaches of my life," blood pressure of 216/106, slurred speech, collapsing in the shower, mental confusion, extremely loud tinnitus, chest pain, shortness of breath, lower extremity edema, etc. I type OPs and pain management, so I was clueless. One day I was typing "The patient started Norvasc, and his headaches improved." I ran to the doctor and stomped on the floor until I got a hypertensive. Then, what do they give me? Hydrochlorothiazide, when I have severe hypertension. Nitwits. I could go on and on. Best advise, make sure you are in charge of your care. Good luck!
Don't mess with my line counts to get that $.01 savings !!!! n/m
v
Yes, it's the same principle, except no checkbook or savings acct.

Just the card.  You don't receive a monthly statement.  You can log onto the website and check your account transactions and card balance anytime.  For me it's more convenient then balancing a checkbook and no more bounced checks!  Either the money is there or it's not.

Because the people who manage things in health
My thoughts are, when their bad kharma finally comes back to them, I hope it really hurts. Then they'll know how it feels to be an MT.
No check=MTSO fault. No savings or cushion=
x
I am going to order Shorthand for myself today. I love it. You can also manage your words in
:+
You work full time, manage a house and cut 11 acres? No way man! Not me :)
NM
hate daylight savings time, LOVED living in AZ for 2 years!
used to whatever time you are on, some government says, "EVERYBODY CHANGE AGAIN!"
Agree! I hate Daylight Savings Time. It takes me a good two weeks
to get myself and everybody in the household adjusted to the time change every six months. If the farmers need to get up earlier, let 'em! That doesn't mean I should have to, also! DST has definitely outlived its usefulness. I stay up later and get up earlier in the summer, but go to bed earlier and sleep later in the winter. It's like my mind and body are tied to the sun, not the clock. I never got an extra hour of sleep last night anyways because the neighbor's stupid dog barked from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.
What is the difference between an acute care account and a multispecialty account??..nm
nm
I've never had a problem switching from account to account.
The problem I had was being switched too soon. If I don't get one account spec solidly in my memory with QA feedback on mistakes before starting another, I get confused. The other problem I had with former jobs was inconsistent QA. One person tells you one thing, another person tells you another.

Lately, I don't have a problem with it. Right now, my binder has 8 account specs (some I've never had to use) and I'm picking up a new weekend job for a while. The terminology and report formats stay basically the same. It's just all those little preferences. LOL
what is your account and specialty on the account?
no one is watching. tell us all about osi.
I was hit by all 3 that summer, I lost power, I lost work, I lost savings...but..sm
NEVER did my employer in any way imply or threaten or dare even mention that my job was in jeopardy because I could not work immediately following a trifecta of natural disasters! My jaw agape is not at your concern about working, but at your concern that you would lose your job because of it. Companies have to have a heart in some situations. You're one MT, your company won't go under without you working for a week or 2 or 3.
Look, if I were on an account that
kept me sending more blanks to QA than was allowed to qualify for an incentive program, I would ask for another account or get with a different company.

I've bid off accounts before; I've also changed employers because of this problem.

I've been there. It's not what I wanted so I fished until I got the catch I wanted.

As well, if your dictators are dictating on cell phones, that can be a real source of contention with HIPAA guidelines and they should be reported. I report that when I run across it; I also tell my supervisor I won't do that physician again if he is dictating on a cell phone. I've never been given a problem with that.
Second account........sm
Does your company base full-time status on line count or on hours?  If line count, it doesn't matter if you do the work in less than 8 hours.  You're still holding up your side of the bargain and you have every right to refuse to work on a crappy second account.  Just tell them you've decided that your one account is enough and keep your second job.  Same goes for the post below stating co-worker is avoiding taking on second account.  Unfair?  I give her credit.  She's a survivor.  We're not the ones who started the game.  But many of us are quickly learning how to play.
If your account uses the BOS ...>>>

you use numerals for all numbers (and the old way is to spell out numbers UNDER 10).  The BOS says to use numerals for ordinals; 10th, 2nd, etc.  BUT, many accounts have their own preferences, so why don't you check to see what yours wants?

My own account

My own accounts been doing them for over 4 years, it is just one office person that says anything.  I think that she was having a bad day last week and we about went on a minor screaming match with each other not only over this but some other things.   So will let things calm down, check and double check to see if I can figure things out but without showing me, I am in the dark like I explained to her.  When nothing comes back you think all is great.

I don't do any of that. I have each account in a SM

separate folder on Word and I just click on the appropriate folder. I do 4 hospitals in one state and two more, plus a local.

I never have gotten anything mixed up that I know of.

Take the account and run!
You really need to ask?
I don't know anything about the account
I am considering an IC position and want to know what is an average rate. I have 9 years experience as an MT and have only wored in a hospital.
Keep that account @ .12 cpl
Keep that account (tell them you will meet or beat the competition). Don't say another word, just keep sending out advertising brochures, etc., until another higher rate really needs you, then tell these cheapskates that your accountant has informed you that not only are you losing money but it isn't fair to those others who do not question your charges nor would they ask you to "cut your rate." I've been in this situation and it has made me very depressed but that's the way these others work, they will undercut you for 1/4 cent, done to me by "friends". Just go along to get along and then you have every right to be the "dumper" instead of the "dumpee." Treat them like a bad boyfriend, until a better one comes along. Had this done to me many times and my only regret is that I let it affect me financially, I used to take the "moral high road" and now I take the "me" high road. If they are thinking only of their wallet, then you should as well if you need the money. Hope this makes sense. Most likely it isn't the docs, just someone in the office trying to say, "See, I saved you some money, so how about a raise?" Don't let them spoil your business accounts receivable, just hang in there and smile a lot.
You must be the OM at this PIA account. (nt)

I am getting .08 on one account and ..sm
.085 for the other acount I work on.
