how funny, must read this in USA news...more antioxidants than blueberries...

(KEEPING IN MIND EVERYTHING IN MODERATION)

Antioxidants galore. Chocolate is rich in cell-protecting antioxidants. A 1.4-ounce piece of milk chocolate typically has 400 milligrams of antioxidants, as much as in a glass of red wine, says chemist Joe A. Vinson of the University of Scranton. Dark chocolate has twice as much; white chocolate, none. Antioxidant activity jumped 31% in the blood of subjects at the University of California, Davis, two hours after eating 2.8 ounces of M&Ms semisweet baking bits.
Anti-cholesterol. The antioxidants in chocolate help block chemical changes in bad LDL cholesterol that lead to clogged arteries. In fact, Vinson found chocolate's antioxidants better than vitamin C at detoxifying LDLs. Research by Penny Kris-Etherton at Pennsylvania State University shows diets rich in dark chocolate or cocoa powder raise good HDL cholesterol. Previously, she found eating a milk chocolate bar daily for a month (in place of another high-carb snack) did not raise men's bad cholesterol.
Clot blocker. Chocolate antioxidants act like aspirin to reduce blood platelet stickiness and thus the clotting that triggers heart attacks and strokes. In a recent study, 30 subjects drank water, a caffeine drink or a cocoa drink containing 1.5 times the antioxidants in typical hot cocoa. The cocoa significantly delayed blood-clotting time.
Vessel relaxant. Good vascular function (how well blood vessels relax) helps prevent heart disease, high blood pressure and artery clogging. Chocolate's antioxidants (called procyanidins) relax vessels by increasing the chemical nitric oxide, according to new studies at the University of California, Davis.

You may wonder ...

Won't chocolate make me fat? Chocolate packs fat and sugar, so overindulging does put on pounds. But chocolate is not a prime cause of obesity, studies worldwide find. The Swiss eat twice as much chocolate per person as we do -- 22 pounds a year -- but have one of the lowest obesity rates.
Isn't chocolate full of saturated fat, the type that clogs arteries? About 60% of chocolate's fat is saturated, and a typical chocolate bar contains 8 grams of saturated fat, so bingeing on chocolate drives up your intake of saturated fat. But moderate amounts do not appear harmful. Extensive research at Harvard found women who ate chocolate bars three or four times a week were no more apt to have heart disease than women who rarely ate chocolate.
Isn't the sugar in chocolate unhealthful? In excess, yes. But a chocolate bar's glycemic index -- a measure of ability to drive up blood sugar -- is surprisingly low, about like oatmeal's.
What about chocolate's caffeine? A dark chocolate bar's 10-30mg is modest next to the 100mg in a cup of coffee.
Isn't most research funded by the chocolate industry? Yes, but it's done by reputable scientists at leading universities and published in excellent scientific journals. Quaker paid for much original research on oats; that doesn't make it untrue.

"There's a critical shortage of qualified labor," said Lea Sims, a spokeswoman for the American Association of Medical Transcription, in Modesto, Calif.

Medical transcriptionists in the United States are aging. The median age for workers in the profession is between 48 and 50 years of age and younger workers are not lining up to enter the profession, which requires extensive training and time to become proficient, Sims said.

Sims, who ran her own transcription services firm for eight years, said she always had more work than qualified people to do it.

That's why the industry has looked at offshore labor, although that strategy comes with its own host of challenges, such as ensuring the security of patient data and encountering communication barriers, health experts say."

AND THIS PART"

CBay's growth in its six years has earned it a spot on private company rankings by Forbes magazine and Deloitte & Touche LLP. The company recently doubled its office space in Annapolis, to 20,000 square feet.

Managers credit the company's growth to its ability to slash transcription costs for cash-strapped hospitals like the University of Michigan Health System and physician practices by relying on cheaper resources overseas. "

Another hospital that sees the need to outsource to India is Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC.

Okay, if it makes you feel better... Read it at CNN, Commie News Network.

Yes, tea has lots of antioxidants -

Funny, but..if you read a lot or know people...sm
The EX-smokers get cancer...AFTER they quit. Never an issue while they smoke...only after stopping for a few years. EVERY person I know who QUIT had cancer. But then again, we are all predisposed to cancer, it is in our genes. They just do not know the exact triggering factor...just ideas on what it is and things you can avoid to reduce your risk, but again, this does not ensure you will not have some type of cancer. Working 12-14 hours a day...gee, one bad habit, better than drinking and not being able to work. LOL
OMG! How funny--- I haven't read this thead but
just seeing the subject lines...this made me laugh out loud, literally!!!!

I read yours after I had posted mine- funny about the - sm
sore throat thing. I wonder why we don't get sore throats anymore. I love it though, used to get them a lot though. No idea if I was intubated though, wonder if that is why my throat swelled up so much, who knows.
Funny how we can read the same thing and come up with a different interpretation.

I don't see the message "lie down and take it" but rather, "change is coming". The above idea that we have to change with the times is paramount but sometimes I think there are those who want to stop all change from occurring and that's just not realistic.

However, I think we do agree that there is change in the air and it's up to the individual to find the best way for them to adapt to change and still be of benefit to their employer and self.

just checked i-mail. no news. how did you get your news?
love,

frank
News flash..Don't know where you get your news, but the economy is doing very well.
s
My theory is no news is good news. (sm)
If there is really a problem with your transcription, then I would not worry about it. They will get to you if you screw up.

As far as policies and procedures, look in your manual. I am sure they gave you info for all of that stuff. JMO.
I have good news and bad news 4U...
The good news is on Saturday, July 1 many of your least favorite residents will be "graduating." The bad news is that on the same day you'll be getting a virtual box of candy with brand new residents who have no clue how to dictate! RU excited?? ARGHHHH!!!!
You're funny. Ignorant, but funny.
I don't live in NYC and I don't work out of NYC and I make wayyyyy more than $23 an hour, SandyGIRL.

I'm an employee at the largest national and I make anywhere from $58K to $64K a year.

You don't have to believe anyone but you show your ignorance by telling those of us who make that money that we're full of it.

Hahaha
Sorry, that was not an ASR funny, just a regular ole dictation funny. LOL! nm
.
In 12 years of MT'ing I've never re-read an entire chart. Edit/read as I type. nm

Yes, I read your post, and I just re-read it, and I've copied and pasted for you in case

you've forgotten your own words! Your post above is 100% different "flavor" to it, now all positive and cheery! Your first post was 100% doom and gloom every which way, including "raining on your parade", and "if you want to go forward"...God, sounds like she's talking about jumping into oncoming traffic! Here is your quote:

My first boss (the one who hired me as a new grad) gave me some words of wisdom that I haven't forgotten. She said that transcribing at home with small children NEVER works under any circumstance. Either the work will suffer or the parenting will suffer.

****

How can the word "NEVER" in caps be interpreted in any positive way? You took about 8 paragraphs to cover every aspect and completely dash this poor woman's dream.  I'm not blind, I'm not talking about day care at all, I'm talking about the total negativity of your original post! You know exactly what I'm talking about, cause you added some sugar to your second version! And that's much nicer than the first!

Oh I've read that site and continue to read it...sm
I agree...much motivation there. I have tried to quit numerous times in the past and did successfully quit when I was pregnant for the first time many years ago but I have never managed to summon up the strength or resolve to stay quit. Thus the "need" for a financial investment in my efforts. It somehow makes it more motivational to know that I have $$$ invested in this effort over and above the $$$ saved on cigarettes.
Who had time to read?LOL I only get a chance to read This Old House once in a while. (nm)

What a funny, funny reply. LOL
You are a genius! I am sorry you are ugly and fat. I feel bad for you, but what I can I do to help? Go to a plastic surgeon.
now that's funny, true, but very funny
Anal Association of Medical Treachery.
I didn't read the other posts but just read this
My daughter got pregnant at 17, said she wanted an abortion but BF didn't. I have a wonderful 2-1/2 yo grand daughter that I don't think I could live without...and now, guess what? I don't. I have custody of her. She was dropped off on my door, I got court ordered temporary custody and final custody hearing in a month.

I'm single with no family support. I had just taken a new MT job one month before this happened and they have been wonderful during my adjusting to being a mom again and I hope I can resume a normal schedule by next week.

I'm passing no moral judgments or giving moral advice. The situation is what it is. My prayers are with everyone involved.
Definitely an eye-opening read. Having my teens read it, too. nm

WOW, that is news. Thanks. nm

old news
This same type of e-mail has been passed around for years. It will not work. Check it out on snopes.com.
Very sad news

As hard as it is, you did the kindest thing you could.  Why is it that cats want to curl up on your foot that is running the foot pedal?  Or on top of your mouse?  Or in front of your monitor?

You have my sympathy.  Cats are people too!  Sometimes my cat seems to be the only one who understands me....at least the only one who listens.

Just saw that on the news!

where on fox news?
can't find it. can you post the link? I heard "rumors" that he has already received several offers..everything from being a popular band's new lead singer to solo recording deals. I hope to hear more from him soon. I really enjoyed his perfomances.
This is old news. sm
I can't even remember the name right now (not memorable anyway), but as I recall "Medical Transcripton" no longer appear in the name.  Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Could be bad news
If you have been out of work for 9-10 months for the past couple of year you might not be eligible for unemployment as you have to work so much in the past 5 quartes - 2005 to 2006 to be eligible.  And if you did not make much, then your benefit will be very little and yout IC could set off that.  You can look a lot of this up on your state's page.   They usually list what qualifies for it and what does not.  But good luck.  We all need help at one time or another and that is what it is there for.  I am more for you getting unemployment than an illegal coming into the states and having a surgery that I could not afford and we as tax payers pay for it.  Know that opens up another bucker of worms but that is my feeling.
bad news ....

I was quite excited about your suggestion.  I talked with my daughter - that is out of my son's area of expertise. She works with software. She said it would have to be piggy backed onto the transcription software. I don't think companies would allow that.  I also thought about having a little gold coin dropping into a bucket on the screen after every line but she said same thing, piggy back. Oh well, back to my footpedal idea.

FOX has *nothing* to do with NEWS nm
no message (much like FOX, except for their messages of hate and intolerance).
that is old news - nothing new -
Philips is interested in selling their holdings in MQ.  Nothing has been announced further.  No mention of impending or imminent sale but we know the possibility exists.
News
No, that doesn't necessarily mean bad news for you. It could just be that they are going to make a decision from the people they've already interviewed and are no longer accepting apps for the position. It could also mean that the post expired. Relax.  If you get it, you get it.  If not, it wasn't meant for you so keep moving.
some time ago on the news...

natalee's mother had a "meeting" with the mother of one of the accused. it was after they had that discussion that natalee's mother started saying they were guilty. who knows what was discussed between the two moms, but it surely started something.

I've been watching the news but
haven't heard if anyone is claiming responsibility?  On a different note, I was just telling a friend yesterday that before 9-11 I heard that the biggest thing on the news was shark attacks.   Hoped it wasn't an omen.
I just assumed it was old news
I was aware of the other lawsuits, 4 in all I think.
Go to CNN.com for all of your news updates.
I also get my local newspaper online free.  Why pay and kill trees when the highlights are all on the internet?
Watching the news
My heart goes out to those who are homeless, jobless, lost everything in their lives, many including loved ones.  I have come to appreciate my family, job and home so much in the last few days.  I stopped to get gas today, only needed 1/2 tank and it ended up costing $25, went up 35 cents since yesterday.  Somehow this is very scary, nearly everything we have comes through the trucking industry.  The ramifications of this will be far reaching, everything will go up......well, everything but an MTs pay, but hey, I have a job and I don't need to get in my car to do it.
Don't believe the news media (sm)

You are so right.  Everything is going up but our wages and it's happening all over.  It is time for everyone to get their finances in order.  We are all going to have to tighten our belts and get our finances in order and get rid of credit cards!

According to who...Faux News?

Great news!!! (sm)
Have another question for you...just curious here...am I talking to Sandy Hames who used to work for YOG???  This is JoAnn (formerly Volgstadt)...aka Hummingbird from the Friendship Board.  If the vibe I'm getting is wrong, then disregard what I just said ;-)
Did you see the news tonight?

Hundreds of children were killed, thousands and thousands have died in total they say. I am the mother of three children and watching those pictures on TV of those little lives lost is very disturbing, extremely saddening, and is a very emotional thing to watch or to try to even understand the magnitude of such losses for everyone involved or to make any sense of it all.

If you, by reading my post, misunderstood my post, I wholeheartedly appologize. It was not my intention to have a "hidden agenda" in my post. It was merely a question.

Commie news?
Well my dear, it was different back in the 50s, obviously which you know nothing about. The world is a different place today and yes my parents followed the Catholic region to a T not that I agree it. I didn't say they couldn't provide, they provided 7 kids with good educations and values (even though mine may be questioned on here, which I don't mind), and at the time when my dad was working his tail off for John Deere, those people in those days in the 20s did not believe in putting their money in stocks because of the year of 1929 if you even know what happened in that year. We did live in a house that my parents bought. I did not say we were not provided for, I said we had everything we needed, nothing more. Well you must certainly be naive to think that Mr. Bush is a good president. Have you lost any people/friends in a war that was uncalled for. Talk to a Viet Nam Vet and see what they have to say. I have 3 brothers who all served our country. I don't know where you live, but go to the Walter Reed Hospital and see the men there. You might get an education. Bush lies to us and if you can't see it, you better take your blinders off. I hope you don't have kids old enough to have to serve in a war. God help you if you do.
Good news - thanks
:)
They just did a breaking news bit on it..
they started saying 8yr old..now claiming it's a 15yr old that was shot and taken to the hospital.  I imagine alot of details will be sketchy until they have more time.  Again...God bless to all of you
Rudd, do you have any news yet? nm

News flash everybody!! - sm
After a nasty argument with ex H over his lack of interest in our daughter for the past 15 years, he informs me that I won't have a job in 3 years due to voice recognition taking over.  Yikes, where do I turn now?  And, since she will be 18 then, he is done financially.  Well, jeeze, since he hasn't been there emotionally for the past 15 years, he might as well stop paying his lousy $150/month.  I'm ticked off and laughing at the same time.  Just venting over the fact that ex idiot is taking pleasure in the thought that he thinks he knows something I don't know.    Obviously he has been doing some reasearch or how would he even know what voice recognition is?  Please excuse my very angry rant! I'm going to take a deep breath and try to forget the whole ugly conversation.
News flash....
Why listen to the rantings of a man who thinks his own daughter is only worth $37.50 a week?

He may or may not research, but there is enough talk about Voice Recognition on TV and radio talk shows that he may have heard it mentioned there.

Please don't let his pettiness ruin your peace of mind.
Melatonin on the News

I'm really glad that melatonin is working for you. However, there was something on the news last night that studies have shown that melatonin is of no use in treating insomnia.

But, whatever works for you.....that's great.

Good news! sm
She wrote back about 2:30 and agreed to 8 CPL. Very happy. I know it's hard out there, as I was an MTSO. Very happy she could do it.
Wow!!!!!!!! GREAT NEWS!!!!
I think you have just solved a HUGE problem!!!

I hope that everybody reads this, because this is BIG!!!

I'll post how this goes after I try it.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is wonderful news.
Not only will you be making more money but you will be able to avoid the sometimes heavy hand of management which can be humiliating in certain ways, for me anyway.

I would suggest you find out the answer and then ask the hospital what their budget allows for transcription and come to a happy meeting place.

I say this because I am an IC for a clinic and one physician I type for was approached by finance dept for having too high of a bill with dictation services. They then had to begin using their templates for his routine and commonly used dictation which I am not paid for.

This all happened after someone in their payroll dept made a mistake and overpaid me, which I caught and immediately brought to their attention, but it was too late.

Please let us know if you would what the nationals are charging the hospitals, the usual and customary fee average. I heard it was 25 cents a line several years ago but this obviously has changed.

Congratulations to you!
