is it really this bad?

I've been reading these boards since I posted my original message about M-Tec vs. TRSi.  This is quite a negative place.  Most of you seem to think that the MT profession (in the US anyways) is on the way out.  You aren't making the salary that you should and/or you aren't getting the respect you deserve.  AAMT (AHDI) isn't helping you. 

Is it really this bad?  Should I even be considering this profession?
