I too saw it and was as angry as you are! I'm canceling my subscription, how 'bout you?
Thank you in advance it should be !! nm

Laughing!
For someone who has been on "both sides of the game" you sure do not have your facts straight. You do not have to be a member of AAMT to take the CMT exam!!
not laughing
but cutting it off with a knife takes all the fun out of it.

eating vertically is, I guess, round and round, as opposed to side to side. Didn't know how to describe it. I eat both ways, actually, I don't want to miss a thing!
got me laughing too!! Thanks. nm

Advance is another one.

still laughing

giggles are good and docs come up with some fine ones.  just had this on H&P.

GU, RECTAL, and BREAST exam are deformed!!!!!! lololololol

Not laughing at all.

I have read several articles where people talked about doing that.  I hadn't even thought of that and my tailbone is as sore as the rest of yours are.

Thanks for the reminder!  I think I even have one of those babies stashed somewhere.  Time to take a break and find it.

Say it loud!!
So true, so true.....
Since ADVANCE is free, there would
be little immediate impact if we cancel our subscriptions. Contact the advertisers and express your displeasure. They're the ones who provide the income stream for ADVANCE. They need to know that the people they're trying to reach are displeased and that their companies are associated with an extremely unpopular position.
I'm still laughing...that is great...

Now I've got all these images in my head about Internest Street in Transcription City.  This is really, really funny.  My dog is looking at me wondering why I'm laughing to myself.  Oh well!!  Probably will be thinking about this all day...will develop a whole town, with many streets and avenues.

What other names can others come up with.  Lets build this city.  OK everyone, send in your suggestions!!

I am not laughing at the technology.
At this point, at least to my understanding, the health insurance industry and Joint Commission require detailed documentation, especially the insurance companies who love to quibble on what they'll pay. When the detailed documentation is no longer being required and standard text and check off systems are used, the docs have no way to cover their butts. Let a few of them be sued for malpractice because they have no detailed proof of exact treatment, and we'll see just how wonderful this mobile system works. The insurance companies will be in an uproar over the judgements they are paying out.
I didn't see anybody laughing.
Everyone thinks Frankie boy has major mental problems.
lol! well, laughing through my tears, actually.

If you can stop laughing for a sec...
Where are these "places where typing pays decent$$$" and "there are tons and tons of men," please? I've been in the working world for over 40 years and no matter what the job, men are going to be paid more, even if they are just standing the "Slow" sign on road construction. The only exceptions I know of are jobs where equity is demanded by law - such as state government and big corporations that are affected by the federal wage and labor laws.

Part of the reason are men paid more is because they think they deserve it and will not accept the same kind of treatment most women will take for the sake of a job. Also, men are more likely to be put into management and supervisor positions, despite their education and experience. It happens in nursing, customer service, any job that is predominantly female. There are probably a lot of reasons for that and I won't even go there.
ok, got it - you were on floor laughing *LOL.nm

how to advance in the MT field ...

I am wondering what it takes to advance to another position in the MT field.  I've been an MT for about 13 years, acute care for 12 of those years.  I'm tired of typing and have done QA as well, but the pay is horrible.  What does it take to move up the ladder to another position, such as MT supervisor or account manager?  I'm just curious. I know there are probably many more qualified people than I out there for any such position, but curiosity has got me as to the general qualifications and average salaries of each.  Anyone know?  Thanks....

Article in Advance
Did anyone read the article in Advance: Is Mandatory Credentialing Next?

The article says: "we have more and more companies paying premium for credentialed MTs." Is that true? The author is president-elect of AHDI. You all know what that is? Never heard of em. Or is it that new organization that used to be called something else, what was it... I think it had the words Medical Transcription in it. Maybe we should write a letter to tell about the reality of working out here.

how is Advance irrelevant?

ROFL ASR keeps me laughing

I get lots of funnies too

Laughing at this doctor
he thinks cc, as in carbon copy, stands for closed caption.  Please closed caption Dr. So-And-So.
Those are both priceless!!! Now I'm laughing. nm.

Laughing - you are soooo right
QA is overrated and yes they do need to get themselves.... QA are MTs that think they know more than a regular MT... in a nutshell....
I think this must be a joke, and I am not laughing.

Why are you both obsessed with laughing??? sm
Jasper is laughing... You're laughing... Acusis is laughing... Glad to see you're all so easily amused.

My personal experience with the MTSO in question is that they have been above-board and forthcoming with info in past *crises* and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt here. Besides, as I read Jasper's post, this pay cut was strictly for the editors... I'm not an editor.

I'm also smart enough NOT to cut off my nose to spite my face: IF my MT pay rate is cut, I'll still choose to stick around with Acusis because I have decent benefits including freebie money in my 401K, relatively pleasant accounts, and I KNOW that to start all over again with any other company out there, INCLUDING the beloved and hallowed WMX, I'd be making LESS per line and I'd be running out of work. So...

You and Jasper go right ahead and jump ship. I'll be glad to pick up your OT, and I'll bet I'm not the only one who stays behind to pick up the slack.

Best of luck to YOU, too, and thank you for leaving. *chuckle*
Laughing when you said the doctors are doing their own
editing. They cannot even spell most of the time.
Advance article
Thanks for sharing this article in Advance - don't get magazine anymore since I dropped my AHDI membership. Proud to be part of ATA - we MTs deserve an assocation that will advocate for us.
LOUD AND CLEAR
and let us not forget the nonresponsive e-mails when one does inquire as to where their lines are going. Take the old server down here and there and lose 300 LINES A DAY. YES, WE LOVE IT! NOT
Then for CRYING OUT LOUD.....
Let HIM worry about this.  How and why do you think it's YOUR problem!!   They're paying you to transcribe, not to breast feed/babysit them.  Learn to pull that monkey off your back and put it on the back where it belongs, would you??????????????????  I swear, this is the last air head post I'm ever going to read or respond to on this ridiculous board.
No loud music at all. It is more sm

like soothing music you would get with yoga.  A lot of people like Windsor Pilates.  I personally did not care for them.  I LOVE Denise Austin's pilates DVDs.  I have a couple.  One has a 30-minute workout and then I have one that is Hit the Spot in which the work outs are only 10 minutes.  I will do one of the core or abdomen ones in the a.m. and then do a lower bod one later in the day.

Pilates do wonders for your strength, toning, flexibility.  I have been doing them off and on for years.  If I stop doing them for a few months and come back, I can tell the different in my flexibility and strength in just about 4 work outs.  I do them about 3 times a week.

Just thinking out loud...
I live within walking distance of a hospital and am occasionally curious (like when I'm having an especially bad night transcribing) regarding what kind of jobs are available there, clerical-wise, though I haven't actually checked it out. I worked in house at a now-defunct hospital for 18 years as a transcriber/lab secretary and have been at home now for 12 years transcribing for 2 national companies. I feel woefully out of it regarding what goes on in hospitals these days. I'll have to say I did better overall financially transcribing in-house but frankly will never miss the office atmosphere. Frankly just hoping to hang in there another 10 years till I can retire but realize I'm gonna have to learn some different skill sets no matter what. I do believe my working second shift has always been a smart move, looks to me like way too many people competing for lines during the day. I have almost never run out of work on second shift. Not really interested in coding, either; I do enjoy transcribing. Maybe unit clerk (?) if that job title still exists? Anyway, will have to check this out.
I almost laughed out loud at what he did.
This has happened to me many times before as well. And I am always disgusted. I think that I laughed to myself because in my mind I could hear the belch, nice and juicy, and know how typically disgusting this is of these guys. Uggg. I am sorry for you, and feel for you. But it actually lightened up my day to think that I am not alone in this job. Hope your dictators are better the rest of the day.
OMG! laughed right out loud at this one sm

brand spanking new PA student dictating for the first time this week! (hoo-boy).  I thought I heard her wrong when she said "uncontributory" (I didn't), but I about fell on the floor when she gave me.....wait for it......

"no ee-lik-it drug use"  BWAAAAAAAHHAAAAAA.

Oh, for crying out loud, let it go. nm
........
did anyone see the article in Advance magazine

about how wonderful it is to train Indians to do our job.  OH YAAAYYY, LET'S HERE IT FOR SPHERIS AND HEALTHSCRIBE   Let's give a big whoopie and cheer them on while they continue to post for transcriptionists on this board and yet outsource and TRAIN Indians to do our job.  I guess I'm angry about the article on other levels, such as the fact that it seems that Advance magazine is constantly promoting offshore transcription.  This is not the first time they have printed articles like this.

Our hospital used Spheris and Cbay and we spent hours up hours redoing the reports, yet these companies got paid in full.  Where is the logic in that?  Thank God, administration wised up and brought the work back in.  Now we can go back to doing what we've always done ... OUR OWN TRANSCRIPTION ACCURATELY!

I sent Advance magazine an email
I think if enough people did, then maybe they will stop glamourizing the overseas work. This is the third article in a year's time that they have done. A few months back Advance actually interviewed an Indian owner, picture and all, about his company!!!

If we cancel our subscriptions, Advance won't be able to
sell as much advertising.  THAT is where they make their money, not by promoting offshoring.  If they can't distribute XX numbers of copies per month, the advertisers will go elsewhere.  Boycott ADVANCE and spread the word.  Shut the traitors down.
OMG, I'm in tears I'm laughing so hard!
That is so funny!
Still laughing my ... off and now im gonna work
z
Great article about this in Advance (sm)
early this summer -- explained the 3-prong test (instead of the old 20+ questions).

If the service insists you use their software, if the service tells you when you can invoice them (instead of the 2 of you deciding together), if the service, not the client, decides turnaround time and quality, and if the service says you can't subcontract the work and insists on a noncompete clause, then you are an employee.

You can file a form with the IRS if you want your status clarified. Also contact Dept of Labor office in your state.

If you don't have an attorney and accountant on retainer, then you aren't professional enough to be an IC.

Also check the Nolo Press site as they have some excellent reference books regarding IC/employment issues.
Not laughing at your bill.. that bites..but
in California gas & electric has sucked big time for decades! I average around $2000 a year...throw in some rolling blackouts too.
I believe lots of laughs/laughing and
thanks in advance.
Current ADVANCE issue is MT pay

Cover story:  Are MTs Paid Fairly.  This story needs rebuttals.  (I don't know if I spelled that right -- too mad to look it up.)  There is another article about MTing as well as some good letters to the editor.  No, I didn't write them.  Not promoting self.

Look, this magazine wants feedback.  Controversy creates publicity which creates readership.  Please think about sending your own letters to the editor.  Write what you write here.  Let more people involved in our field know your thoughts whether they be MTs or not.

No, I don't work for ADVANCE.  I'm just an MT just like most of you.  I just want our voices to be heard by more people who call the shots that affect us.  This is one venue.  Even if you don't like the publication, fight back and make your voices heard!!!  What a lot of you write here would be fantastic letters to the Editor which would reach a wider spectrum of our associates than this forum for MTs.  We've got to keep the topic of the MT situation HOT in the media.  You can submit articles to them as well.  Get busy, PLEASE!!

Advance is irrelevant. Who cares what they say?

Letter to Editor-Advance

I will  write a letter...

Lasted Advance MT article
I was wondering if any of you have read the latest article in Advance about MTs? It's called The MT Critic.  Color me stupid but I did not know MTs had to go to medical school to do their jobs?  How many of you know the average size of the left atrium of the heart? How many of you would contradict the doctor's vital signs because the patient had a fractured ankle and you just knew that because of his pain, those vitals could not possibly be correct?  It is no wonder we are not attracting qualified people to our profession.  What are your thoughts?
