Most MTs are very busy people. I have answered your questions OP sm
You didn't get my number, I am definitely too busy to talk to ANYONE, except my boss, when I am trying to work. I work more than one IC contract and I am working 15 and 16 hour days. I don't talk to my family or my friends...let alone you or any other MT who wants questions over the phone.

I have to say, since I have seen these questions...I rolled my eyes when I saw what was being asked, frequently the same question over and over again. I couldn't be bothered to render an opinion or tell you where to stick your commas.

As others have posted, you need training. If you can't tell where to put a comma, that training is probably high school English. Asking the opinions of several MTs is phishing for a phight. I cannot see what you hope to gain by it, but I won't be enticed to waste my time.

If you are a newbie MT and you have just completed training, go ask your teacher(s) or go to your QA manager. If you feel your QA manager is wrong, go to her boss, but you had better have your facts straight and an AAMT BOS in your hand when you do and it would be a good idea if you could quote the "errors" out of the BOS. Then again, if you had the newest AAMT BOS and if you knew how research things you would not need these silly questions answered.

Yup I am being harsh.
I've had people tell me that I would need to wait to have my questions answered until I worked...

for them.  What???  How would I know if I want to work for them if they don't answer my questions.

Go figure.

Meditech questions and Cerner questions. Any input is appreciated. SM

I just recently went back to work in the office at a local hospital. We type in both Meditech and Cerner, depending on what you are typing, i.e. Medical Records reports versus Radiology.  We are currently typing blindly in Meditech, meaning we do not have access to our line counts and must depend on management to give us our totals.  In Cerner, we are able to run a line count report and print out a hard copy of our line counts at the end of the day.

We are finding that 800 lines in Cerner equals about 500 lines in Meditech.  We are not paid per line nor do we have an incentive plan, but we have a new HIM Director who would like to institute an incentive plan and the administrator over our department has laid down the law and decreed that all transcriptionists not making minimum in the department will be written up.  Problem is according to Meditech line totals that we have been given, that would be about half the department.

The transcription supervisor has taken our concerns to the new director who told the MT Supervisor to hold off on writing people and has taken home all the line counts from the last month and she is going over them with a fine tooth comb this weekend.

I am not a very trusting soul by nature, so I am doing a little research on my own.  I've been in this business for about 15 years.  I started out in a hospital and have worked for a few services at home and am now back in the hospital setting.  So I know a few things about line count and I consider myself to be pretty well informed on trends and technology in the industry.   I would like to walk into our next department meeting armed with as much knowledge as possible.  So I have come up with some questions that I would like some fellow MTs to answer, give opinions, and maybe even direct me to websites or individuals who could give me a better understanding of Meditech and Cerner.  Here are my questions:

  1. Is it possible for an MT to have access to her line count in Meditech or is strictly a management function?  Any MTs that work in Meditech on this board, do you currently have access to your line counts and if so, how do you check them?  Is it an option on the main menu after you log into Meditech?

  2. How is a line defined in Meditech?  (i.e. 65 cpl, with spaces, without spaces)

  3. How is a line defined in Cerner?

  4. What abbreviation Expanders work with both Meditech and Cerner?

  5. Examples of incentive plans (if anyone would like to share that with me that would be great, if not I completely understand).

  6. Measuring productivity by minutes of dictation versus typed lines.

    1. What would be the minimum minutes required for an 8-hour day?

    2. How would one structure an incentive program based on minutes?

I was thinking of presenting the idea that we keep track of productivity using minutes instead of lines since there is such a discrepancy in Meditech.  I also worry that if an incentive plan is put into place and we are still typing blind into Meditech, what's to keep management from shaving off a few lines here and there?

Feel free to email me or post here any responses.  Either is fine.  I really appreciate any input, comments, or just plain old supportive posts would be nice too!

Thank you all who have answered! That's what I like...

about coming here, the diversity of answers.  You ladies (and maybe guys) have been a great help!  Thank you.

thanks to those of you who answered
think I'll give the 5htp a try - i'm in a stressful situation and I think my depression is situational, thanks again.
I'm sorry nobody answered you. I am sorry
for your dad, too. I have no personal experience with those exact meds; however, I am very allergic and/or intolerant to many meds, and Zantac actually does that to me - makes me an emotional mess. I am on other meds that give me GI upset, and I have to take Zantac for a few days until either my GI system calms down, or my emotions are shot. It makes me very labile. For elderly people and those with allergies or intolerances, that can be a very common side effect - also, as I'm sure you know, elderly people are hyper-sensitive to many meds and/or have bizarre reactions - not the usual warnings on label. I hope things work out - he'd probably rather have GI distress than be agitated or upset. Good luck.
I answered their ad and
So I got my own job. I have many years of experience. I went through 2 other jobs before with larger companies, then I found this one with a small company and I just love where I am at now. I did not use them at all. I don't know why they would put themselves out there and then not bother to reply.
Many thanks to all who answered!

Answered below and yes
NM
you just answered your own sm
question! you have only been doing this for a few months! Are you doing acute care or doctors office stuff that you already had been doing. There is no way with only a few months experience you can go home and work on acute care for a MT company and expect to make any money.

Same thing I have been talking about in this field forever. Too many folks want to get very little experience and then leave and "work at home" not realizing they have to have some experience.

You need to go and get some in-house experience.
thanks to all who answered
you are the best...and no sarcasm!
Curious -- Who are you asking? Someone else answered..? lol nm

Thanks to all who answered! I will try your suggestions. nm

You answered your own question...
Enjoy it. You will regret it if you don't!
thank you. someone answered this on the mq board
thx though
and she answered you. why the 'tude? nm
.
Do a search here. This ? gets answered almost every day.
xx
We answered this the other day - The average is 3:1
1 hour of dictation will take 3 hours to "type" transcribe.
Dont know if JAM answered but....

I copied this from his/her email.

Position the curser where you want to start, (beginning of sentence)
press F8, hit the period key. It will then highlight to the period and
you can delete.  This will work with commas also.  If you get stuck in
the mode or change your mind, just hit esc.  Just remember to hit F8,
then hit whatever key you want to highlight to, then delete.

Again some companies do differ in amounts by the last month paid as you can invoice out for December in January and they sometimes accure that amount so they can deduct it in that year.  I have still claimed it in the year that I received it and did this for many years and never had a problem.  So as long as there is not a huge 10 to 15K difference I think that the IRS knows this.  Again 1099's can be corrected and sent in if there is a discrepancy in the amount.  Feel safe as long as you have the records to indicate what you received in the year.
I have answered your question above. (nm)

Your question was answered and not at all with
any sarcasm from what I read.

It seems that the poster just answered in as few words as possible.

I understood he/she to mean without experience, the company would hire from within.

Very simple.

How did you get that they were assuming you had no experience? seems that you are the one assuming eh?!

Thanks to you all who answered. One more question.......
How do you know which C-phone will be compatible with everything?
They answered. Said he was from Pakistan and that all MTs

You answered your own question!

My question is not answered though
Are these records done by MTs or is this the punch a screen and put on the information.
I also want to thank DeeAnn who answered
my question so kindly and the person who posted with BINGO-LOL is confused and needs help.

Stop trying to be Sherlock Holmes, it is pathetic!
You answered somebody's inquiry

a few weeks ago about my company and it sounded as though you were a current employee.

Hey, it's okay to vent.  I know it must be frustrating.

I'm glad I have not had to buy a BOS 3.  That would make me mad.  They are waaaay too expensive.

This is answered on the Word board. SM
Just go to that board and scroll down, or do a Find (in the Edit menu if you have IE).
No one was being rude. They just answered her question.
She IS a newbie and thought she was being trained wrong when, in fact, she is probably being trained right. She doesn't know the rules of transcription.
Well, that pretty much answered my question!

You keep using your high school diploma and playing "I win" games back and forth on the computer. I have a feeling that's all you have anyway, which, my dear, is not much.

Answered A LONG TIME AGO - DUH. SM
I guess we can assume you only answered it to be able to put down the original poster? I hope you get the same one day, I really do. Wish I could see it happen. You are hateful.
Is there a reason you answered for Sheri

I think *that* shows a lack of respect for someone. I also said Sheri ONLY was to answer the question (because she is the administrator of the board).

And in terms of "when in Rome do like the Romans do ..." Just call Rosa Parks.

I'd like one, too! I answered your post on the other board.
I'm sure they'll need an experienced technician to work at home, though. Just like any other job, they don't hire newbies without experience to work at home right away. It's better to learn in-house from experienced people than to try to go it alone. You can't troubleshoot over the phone and fix someone's computer if you've never actually done it in real life. College merely lays the foundation, it doesn't make you an expert in the field.

I've been trying to find an at-home tech job for over 10 years now. It's not easy. Too much competition out there with all the youngsters and Y2K layoffs. Totally saturated market with much lower wages than 10 years ago. People generally don't quit at-home tech jobs because they're hard to come by.
wow...okey dokey..answered my ????

and received her email asking for a resume. I never answered because I have a job and do not trust this one's methods. sorry.
I answered Erin too with the C answer

By the way, mm, did your original question ever get answered?
The original question actually wasn't about Ebonics or syntax. Your original question was about markers and blanks.

Marker: A coding mechanism used to signify a spot in the dictation where the Transcriptionist cannot understand what is being said or there is a discrepancy. In some software platforms (DQS for example), a marker will allow the transcriptionist or QA person to jump directly to the spot in the audio recording and listen to the problem, without having to manually fast forward the audio.

Blank: Usually signified by underscores, either 5 or 10 or whatever is specified by the client. _______ This shows a space where the dictator can hand write in what he meant to say on the paper chart copy of the report before signing it.

Hope this helps! And best wishes in your anger management class, and also in your "playing well with others" class... LOL! (And yes, that was a joke!)
She asked, I answered and my answer
not what OTHERS wanted so they answered, not her. If you don’t want a variety of answers, should never throw out on this board.
