Here's my thanks, as well. I really appreciate the good advice and encouragement and will just keep working along, keep a list of those companies I have already sent my resumes to and also try to get a real live person on the telephone to see where things really stand.
Also, I will check the above-named job sites for updated listings. It's funny how things started out really negative when I first posted today and then some really positive people joined in and gave me some concrete suggestions. Many thanks. :)
