me no end the amount of guilt and burdens we women allow ourselves to take up trying to be all things to everybody--in other words, Superwoman. Tell your DH to not just present you with a problem in order to heap one more thing on your shoulders, but to come up with a solution for it! I am sick & tired of us being expected to roll up 3-4 jobs into one. Being a mother itself is a full-time job, taking care of & managing your home and/or marriage * activities of daily living is another, and we have to help bring in the income too! No wonder women are so sick and stressed out all the time, me included.
No need to lock the cats up. They'll figure it out.

If someone is shooting them with BB's when they wander into someone else's yard, it won't take them too long to figure out to stay away from there. Cats aren't stupid.

I told my neighbors when I moved into my new neighborhood with my 2 long time outdoor cats, "If they bother you, just soak them with the hose and they won't come back."  It worked.  They sleep in some neighbors yards or gardens, but never venture near the houses they got wet at and we've been here almost 7 years.

I'd give my cats away before I would lock them in the house.  Once an outdoor cat, always an outdoor cat.

Otherwise, you just have a miserable indoor cat.

You'll be fine. I was afraid to be around people again too but
after the first week I couldn't believe I was working at home like a recluse all those years and actually enjoyed making friends and having conversations with coworkers and patients. I missed being sociable and didn't even realize it. Also, it does wonder for the disposition when you're not at work too. I've never been happier and am better able to participate in conversations now that I'm not alone 8 hours a day typing. You'll be fine.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - animals know things people don't.

well oldtime, I'll bet that you have good work ethics. But, people like you are far and few in
6 to 8 MTs only a couple actually work out.  That is an absolute shame, but it's the truth.  How do I know this?  Because I surveyed several services asking the very same question to each and this is what the averages were.  Of course, someone here will whine about how many services I surveyed, were they friend, etc., but I can say with absolute certainty that I was completely fair in my end figures.
if you live among trashy people, low income people, people w/o goals or direction,
content to just get by, you by default become a part of a group. "people" have decided to group trailer people as trash. that is because there are enough people in that group to earn the title and even if you aren't trash, you are categorized by others. did i think i was trash in lower class neighborhood surrounded by people who drank and fought all weekend? no but i knew i wasn't staying and did not try to pretend that all the fools in the neighborhood were just nice folks who ended up where they were because high horse snobs deemed their neighborhood low class. people for the most part live exactly where they belong because they don't want to educate themselves, they don't mind "trash" around them and they don't want to be bothered trying just a bit hard to extract themselves from that world. they justify everything to themselves i guess saying everyone who doesn't like their lifestyle is a snob and the comedians (Jeff Foxworthy/Chris Rock, etc) who make fun of them are just ill-informed.

As for me, I fought hard to get out and don't even want to look back. It amazes me people stay for generations.

I have two IC contracts right now. I recently went back to a job I had quit earlier in the year to work for the other company I am still working for.

The newer job has 80% ESLs. I transcribe OP notes primarily and I can fill in other work types as the opportunity arises. I am frustrated with this particular situation. After 6 months, I am making less money and working longer hours. I am past the learning curve and I should be doing better, at least in the number of hours I am spending doing the job. We have run out of work for 24 hrs at a time at least 5 or 6 times since December 1, and in November it was more than that. I have a friend who worked for this company as well and she was having similar difficulties. The only thing that we can figure is that they are shorting us line count some way, because after 6 months at it, it should be easier/faster/more money, but it is less and less every single pay period. It is not a nice thing to accuse a company of doing, but it SEEMS that way to us. I am fed up with being expected to type every single OP note that comes in 24/7 and meeting the 6 hr TAT for them on weekends, evenings, holidays, wee hours of the morning...

I took back a job I held for 2-1/2 yrs. The team leader has changed and this gal thinks that I should be on call 24/7 for whenever she has work. I might have some at 7 a.m., or perhaps not until 6 p.m. or later. I can't plan my personal life and between these two IC situations, I find that I am not eating on a daily basis, not showering on a daily basis and not sleeping more than 3 or 4 hours at a time. I have lost weight and I don't feel very well. I woke up today with a rip roaring head cold (my first in nearly 8 yrs) and it has already moved to bronchitis and I am expecting pneumonia by the weekend because I develop it very easily. I already have deep pain in my back.

Yes, I should call in sick tomorrow, but I really can't take the fallout. The job I took back I am covering for another gal who wanted vacation over the holidays and if I have to call in sick, the team leader will call me and pitch a fit about how this is my responsibility. It IS my responsibility, I did say I would do it, and I will do it, despite being quite ill. In the past, when I worked for this company, they would not allow me to call in sick for a "cold" without a doctor's note. I worked through many illnesses with them and only called in sick when I developed West Nile Fever and while I was sick for over a month, I only called for my last 12 reports one day when I could no longer see the computer screen because my head hurt.

The problem is that yes, many MTs lack work ethic. They don't take their responsibility seriously. This is not a work as you please career, not even for an IC. I can see the MTSO's point of view, I truly can. Like finding experienced, reliable and capable MTs, for the MTs who are these things, finding a company will treat you like a human being is equally difficult. I sit here, feeling lousy and like I am an utter slave labor with no consideration whatsoever. I know that my work needs to be done, but when I am this sick it is better that someone else do it for the sake of the work, for accuracy and for speed of getting it out. I know that I am needed, but to be the MT these companies need me to be, I also need to look after my own health.

I will also mention that when I have asked for vacation, I have been approved for the time, but the MTSO queues up my work and calls me then I am not on the system getting it done. I have told them I had been approved for time off, but the MTSO didn't schedule anyone to cover for me and I am told to get on work, vacation or no, if I want to keep my job.

Thus, I work 24/7/365 and have for years. I work sick, I work when I am in pain (I have an AI disorder), I work exhausted from staying up all night covering for others who are allowed to call in sick and have vacations when I can't have either. I work having no health insurance and not being able to afford the $125 a month to buy some with a high copay so I can see a doctor. I work without breaks for breakfast, lunch or dinner and I sometimes come close to having an accident because if I leave my desk to go to the little girls' room I get nasty calls about where I am at and what I am doing.

Many MTs are mistreated, and I am one of them.
they pay you to listen to what they are saying and fix it.
I actually feel kind of sorry for the residents who have such a hard schedule, overworked, underpaid and not enough sleep.  I would hate to dictate and don't think I would be very good at it.  Well maybe if it was the only thing I did but not under the circumstances most of them work under.  Think about it.  What if on top of transcribing you had to do all the other things the doctors have to do while being sleep deprived.
Willing to listen.
If you have information, please share it. I just stumbled across this website a week or so ago. I have been totally in the dark about everything. So, please, feel free to fill me in. Don't have time to do a search since I am trying to get my line quota so I don't lose my benefits :-(
this is how I figure it

I took the work I did from Sept 1-15.

With spaces ... 16,492 lines x 0.095 = $1,566.74
Without spaces ... 13,967 lines x 0.095 = $1,326.87

Divide the high lines into the low dollar:
$1,326.87 / 16,492 = $0.084553

To answer your question ... just over 8 cpl.

I figure it this way
My word processor is Works, which only counts characters. I then manually counted the spaces and found that apx 22% of the report was spaces. Take your 9.5 cpl and subtract 22% and you come up with the equivalent of 7.4 CPL. I work for MQ and, as far as I can tell, DO get paid for spaces because their line count is always about 22% more than my 'Works' count.
Listen to your gut sm

Listen to your instincts.  You have gotten a lot of advice from this board and everyone means well, however, no one but you knows you situation completely.

As far as your boyfriend, I have been in that situation.  I was "in love" with the person he "could become" but not at all happy with the person he currenlty was.  I was fooling myself into thinking he would become a better person.  One thing to remember is that it is impossible to change another person.  If he is not what you want or need, you will have to make the decision that is right for you and your children.

Debt is a life drainer.  It comes to a point that you are miserable because of debt.  I've been there too.  Again, do what you think is right but try not to strap yourself financially.

Best of luck to you and your family.

you and me both! I figure by then sm
there will be some kind of "robot" like thing I can program to do all that massaging, IV fluids and Foley for me. That along with putting on my support hose, hearing aid, denture cream, getting my pills, etc!

pole of the right kidney. Also, are you sure 2.1 isodense lesion is not hypodense lesion also? Don't know about your "kamachium" will have to think about that one!
who do I like to listen to?

Do I get to make a last wish before the firing squad?

Sammy Davis, Jr. (greatest entertainer of all time) - Barry Manilow (I like his newer stuff) - Maureen McGovern - Bobby  Darin - Cher - some Janet Jackson - Mariah Carey - Backstreet Boys (some of their stuff) - Peabo Bryson - Luther Vandross - Anita Baker - almost anything Disco - CCR - Petula Clark - 3 Dog Night - Blood Sweat & Tears - a lot of George Michael, Jim Croce - Guess Who - Fifth Dimension - Four Seasons - David Clayton Thomas (from BS&T) - a little bit of Eric Clapton, Steve Lawrence & Edie Gorme (and the list goes on). I also have individual songs I like such as Elusive Butterfly, Green-Eyed Lady ... some stuff from the 60s (my age is showing). Not really into the 50s (but the movie Grease was fun). It all depends upon my mood from day to day.

Who I would never listen to:  Janet Joplin, Rod Stewart, Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones (the worst!!!), most of Elvis Presley, a whole ton of 60s, rock singers, and most of today's singers.

Despise rap and don't like country ... but I do enjoy the song "The Devil Came Down To Georgia." I'll pass on opera as well.

As the line goes from the movie:  I "had two 50s and moved right on into the 70s."

Okay folks ... load up the guns.

One way to figure this out is to

"switch places".  Pretend he's working at home, and you come home at the end of the day.  The important thing is - he's there and you're there.  You share a home and probably lots of other wonderful stuff.  It's hard, but sometimes you have to give a little even if you don't think it's fair.  I don't mean - be a doormat- just act out of love.  It seems like when you do that, it comes back to you.

Anyway, good luck and Happy Holidays to you and hubby.

me again... duh... trying to figure out SM

why after each of my exapansions the curser immediately goes to the line below after I expand. (instead of stopping like autocorrect would) so I could insert the next word.

I just noticed the little yelllow box that comes up that will prompt you to see the word you are about to expand.  I kinda like this!!!

How do you figure

How do you figure you can do this from home when testimony is taking place in the court room; depositions are taking place in a lawyer's office across town; and 8:45s take place each morning at the speed of lightening in a court room.

Please!

NO. Don't listen to the OP below. Go to
You do NOT have to do that.

However, you really should build breaks into your workday so that you are only typing (not taking breaks) during your worktime.

Hours are the times you work during and they can make whatever coverage hour requirements they want.

Lines are what you are producing and paid by. So you want to be as productive as possible while you are working during your coverage times.

Listen to your QA
Do not fight over it..but yes, those are all things that you should know having worked for 15+ years, not to mention any client preferences. Home MTs are always held to high standards over in-house, it is a fact that you have to learn to live with but a fact nonetheless. Most of the feedback you listed, I would be ashamed if I I was not consistent with my spacing, did not know the proper way to type an age, etc. If that does not bother you, keep in mind that if SHE is the one to you your next review, you know she will have a copy of the email you were sent stating that you were made aware of the guidelines.
and I ALWAYS say NOT to listen...nm

When you figure out .....
what you are going to do - let me know. I have even considered going back to school for a year to learn coding. They are the ones making the money that we used to make.

listen please
i've moved around, changed jobs a lot in my 32 yr of MTing. There have been times after even 10-15 yr in the business, that i sat down to something and it sounded like the words had been blenderized; i thought i'd never get it. Times i cried and thought i didn't have it any more. You HAVE to stick with it; that IS the key. I do strongly recommend working in-house a good while before you try doing this work in your home. You'll be okay and do well in due time, if you don't give up.
Figure it out
MT = 8-9 cpl   QA = 3-4 cpl  Overhead = 2-3 cpl  Benefits = 1-2 cpl  Mgmt = 3-5 cpl sp probably 20 cpl minimum
Listen to the
whole tape. Not the partial tape the media played. It is online, just Google for it and make sure that it states unedited. I explains a lot. You are correct that only one source has the right to pass judgment on him. I would also like to say that I have found a friend's father has an extremely interesting take on the use of this word. He is a black man, a professor. In part, if we forget this word exists, if we cover our eyes or ears every time we see or hear it, then we are ignoring an important part of history and an important movement by an entire race, then it could all happen again. Besides, if you ask 20 people their definition of that word you may be surprised. It does not mean the same thing to everyone and it some have more than one definition for it.

On another note, since it has been used in myriads of books, should we remove those all from libraries and burn them?

Personally, I have used this as a learning tool for my grandchild, how words mean something, words can change your life. I have explained to him how sometimes there are people in this world who will do anything to make a buck regardless of whom it hurts. I have shown him how one bad impression could change affect him adversely. I have explained that just because you hear something (a word, a rumor, etc.) it is not okay to repeat it unless you are willing to pay the price and be accountable for that action.

Listen to this one......SM
About a billion years ago I worked for MQ in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. MT I worked with made approximately $80,000 a year. We worked on a difficult ESL account. There was one doctor who only dictated discharge summaries, about a page and a half long. This MT added canned text to make each report about five pages long. She found a pretty routine physical exam, ROS, FH, SH, etc, by the same dictator and pasted it into every discharge summary report, along with whatever routine text she felt she could get away with. The doctor never complained because he could barely speak English and had the best looking reports in the hospital system. MQ was told about this repeatedly by other MTs but they did nothing about it because they were making so much money from her padded reports. Unbelievable. She's probably still there, but now up to $100,000 a year!
It took me a while to figure that out too.
:-) I love the easy fix problems.
When you figure it out..

Let me know how.

I've been doing this for years and it is very hard to keep focused.  The phone is always ringing, my brain is thinking about the pile of dishes in the sink...

Even now I should be working and I'm posting here.

need someone to listen
Well, you caught my attention. Did you know that many brilliant/intelligent people suffer from depression? My advice to you is to contact your local community health program and immediately get help with your depression. They usually have fees based on your income. Maybe you suffer from ADHD also, no friends, or not many. Please get some help. "A mind is a terrible thing to waste." You could have a very productive life, making money, making friends. I have been and am from a family with alcoholism/depression/drugs and you have all of the classic signs of crying out for help, just don't know where to get it or whom to trust. You are too young to be like this. I have a son your age and I know he has ups and downs, but you really need help and I want to encourage you and tell you what a good person you are and that there are plenty of people who will help you. Just remember that ending your life is not the answer. Please get help for that brilliant mind of yours today. You have accomplished so many things and should be very proud of yourself. You may seem lost now, but just reach out and get your help and learn how you can be productive and be happy. Everyone deserves to be happy.
Maybe we can help each other figure it out? (sm)
We could both do research and tell each other what we find out?
Maybe they figure...
An interesting experiment might be to submit a resume & say you have 2 years' experience.

Still trying to figure out...
what  "documentation by exception"  means.
She needs to figure out what her
account, factoring in all expenses, and then add in her profit margin, factoring in her wage, benefit costs, etc. If she does not, and just tries to charge what the "going rate" is, she may well end up losing money on the account.
thanks. I will try and figure that out!

QA might have to listen to all the above but
if you ever worked inhouse you would know that 2 sets of ears are better than just 1. I would listen only to ask for help and then the next person could hear it perfectly well. This could possibly be the same for QA, another pair of ears out there for our words that we cannot make out.
