EMR vs VR

I think some people are getting EMR mixed up with VR, to different animals.  The EMR that is to be inplace by 2017/2015, I have heard both dates is just exactly that and EMR (Electronic Medical Record) which will be your health record basically on a computer that can be accessed by a Dr/hospital no matter where you are in the country.  So if you went on a trip and got ill in another state, that doctor who is now taking care of you will be able to access your medical record to obtain all of your medical history immediately.  The reports such as Radiology, H&P, OP reports, etc. are still going to have to be dictated/transcribed by someone.  Templates filling in on your EMR are not going to be able to dictate the acutal op report/history, etc.

I do see the role of the MT changing to a certain degree but VR will never be able to totally replace a live MT.  You might see us editing more as time goes on but if we can just get the companies out of India, I think we will be secure.  I have worked at two large hospitals that have gone to VR, both of those hospitals had it only in Radiology and it required transcriptionists (who knew the language and knew what they were doing and hearinig) to correct the reports when they all of the sudden popped up with the "big jucy green hamburger" in the middle of a chest x-ray.    We know if they go to India to edit, "the hamburger" will still be in the same report.   I personally think it is only a matter of time, a few big time lawsuits and they will come running back with their tail between their legs looking for "US" to fix the mess.  JMHO.
