Dont ya know when I get off this board, I feel like I need a shower after dealing with the attack conservatives? It bugs the heck out of me at times..however, I enjoy reading what other democratic liberals are posting and knowing we are the future for America, the liberal people..There is no way the me-me, lock me behind a gated community, who cares about you, I got mine society will exist..It is not workable in an expanding world. So, as much as sometimes the conservatives, for some reason or another cannot stay on their own board and bug the heck out of me, I check back here every once in a while..I wish you would too. We need you here as a compassionate sane poster..I was on Bill Maher last night in Current Events, talking about jury duty, which I have to do in October..Blah!!

Hi American Woman! Come on back here regularly. We have some really good liberal posters now. Yes, Im in CA. The fires are all around me but havent come to the desert yet (where I am). They have been moving towards the ocean instead (opposite direction). With a change of the wind, though, the fires could change direction, then they would come over the Sierra Nevada Mountains to get to the desert. About two years ago a fire came up over the mountains and you could see it from my house and the air was thick with smoke and soot. Was quite scary..but the firefighters were able to get it out. Yup, CA, the land of mudslides, wildfires, earthquakes, torrential rains (when it does rain..smile). So good to hear from ya..Come on back here. The board isnt the same without ya. :o).

One great thing about this country is our freedom of speech. A good thing for me too as in another country I might be beheaded or something as I'm pretty outspoken about things I believe in strongly. Also, anyone has the right to agree or disagree with either of us and that is partly what makes this country great, I think.
I would love to hear of your life's journey. I came from near poverty....my dad was a farmer, both parents uneducated....their goal was to make a better life for their children through education. I made it all the way to upper middle class which is good enough for me. I traveled many a rocky road though during my life.
I used to love going to the 59 flea market but like you, I now prefer my comfort over flea marketing outdoors. One thing I can say is since I left Houston in 1990, it sure has changed. My husband, a Chicago native, and I were visiting the kids once and we were going to drive back to my daughter's house in Tomball to spend the night from my son's house in Magnolia. Well, not being so familiar with the Magnolia/Tomball area from living there....except for the famous chicken fried steak place in Tomball...forget the name right now, we missed a turn. I'm about half night blind and after we drove around for quite awhile looking for something I recognized, finally saw the street sign for Gesner so I knew exactly where I was, right? Wrong. Didn't realize they'd opened up Gesner half way to Conroe. LOL We finally got to my daughter's house after a couple of hours, she and my son were about to send out a search party. We didn't have a cell then.

I agree with you about the pork - I know it's always been there, but that's not an excuse to keep it there, especially when most of it is just for trash that couldn't pass on its own merit if put up for a vote.
I try not to go off the deep end about what's going on, but I don't think being concerned at this point is unreasonable. This is the largest national debt we've ever run up and somewhere along the line, we're going to have to pay for it and our kids are going to have to pay for it. And even if all's going well and we all have jobs and our mortgages are no longer in crisis, it's still going to mean higher taxes somewhere (not just income - could be gas, produce, city taxes, state taxes, property taxes, etc.), and not just for the wealthy. It's gonna hit all of us and all of our children.
It is a nonpartisan issue and I can't stand to see this country divided by 'right' and 'left.' I think I can say with quite a bit of certainty that everyone on this board is a taxpayer (since we're all working) and we should be mad as he11 with BOTH sides for doing what they're doing. No one is in the right here, it's just all wrong and has been for a long time. I just wish something had happened about it years ago instead of letting it get this far.

I was brought up Buy American made products, keep American jobs.
Always bought American made cars and bought products from companies where my family was employed. Now look at America? We are definitely connected all around the world.
My feeling? Obama states he wants to start from the poor upward. Not the other way around like it has been for quite awhile. That to me does not necessarily mean just in America, but around the world by taking the poorest countries and working upward so America's pay wages and everything else will be so low and comparable to the poorest countries. After all, we are now connected together.
Cannot wait to see what will happen with the Swine flu this fall with the second wave and what it will do to the economy of all the countries combined at once.

I am sorry, but I respectfully disagree with you - any child born to American parents is an American even if they are born overseas. The birth has to be registered with the United States, but they are still an American even if they are born in the foreign hospital.
I have 2 cousins who were born in Japan and they have no problems at all being "American".

Case and point Fox News is the #1 media outlet via ratings and hardhitting conservative anchors, pundits, and journalists. Other than Hardball, I don't know of another mainstream show that puts the liberal point of view out there and checks this administration and their policies.

abort with no questions asked because it is her uterus and no one's business. Yet you wish to take away the rights of people who don't believe in abortion and work in the medical field. No job should require you to do something that you find unethical. If you want to abort your child....fine....that is your decision and one that you will have to answer for and live with. So many people are on here screaming about their rights and how dare their rights be taken away. Forcing someone in the medical field to be involved in something they feel is unethical......isn't that taking away their rights. They have a right to refuse. There are other people in the medical field who would willingly perform an abortion....so why force those who find it unethical? That is just wrong.

Comparing the statements...and the person who made them...I would say there is no room to accuse Sarah Palin about her husband than to accuse Obama and his wife about their pastor/mentor/friend who married them and baptized both of their children.
