as an eagle. An eagle needs both a left wing and a right wing to fly. I've seen John McCain work with democrats and reach across the aisle. I have not seen that from Barrack Obama. I just do not feel that our country needs someone who is so far to one side and I feel that Barrack Obama is an extreme left kind of guy. We need someone who is more in the middle.

A citizen, for pete's sake, would have already been in jail a LONG time ago. Those two quotes (there are way too many more to go hunt) meet the definition of bigot as you posted it to me. And you either don't have the sense (as you accuse me) to realize you are the very thing you accuse me of, or you know dang well you are a bigot and don't care. I would guess the former. I don't pick a candidate by their gender, their color, their name, their religion, or anything else. I pick a candidate by their intelligence, ability to lead, and one whom the rest of the world will be more likely to listen & relate to. After the last 4 years, I've watched big companies get TAX BREAKS and INCENTIVES for shipping our work overseas. I work 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, and I'm close to needing section-8 housing and food stamps because my pay won't get me much in this country, anymore. Ever notice that just about EVERYTHING you buy these days is made in China? Yet try and find those same products made in the USA. Impossible. So no, I want a candidate that I can look up to and be proud of, not one like Dubya, who's made me embarrased to be an American for the past 8 years.

However, It is never done as an elective procedure, rather as an emergency procedure in order to save the life of the mother when it is a breech delivery and the cervix clamps down before the head delivers, or when the fetus has died in utero. The few times I saw it done during my career, everyone in the room, sometimes even the doctor was crying. To say that someone choses this to get rid of a baby is simply just not true.

keep women out of power. The old 'barefoot-and-pregnant' story. As a feminist, I wouldn't vote for a candidate who was against EITHER issue. Being pro-choice has nothing to do with hating babies, etc. Pro-choice has to do with keeping a very personal, private choice just that: Personal & Private, between a woman and her doctor, and no-one else. If a woman hasn't any power over her OWN reproductive system, and whether or not the time is right (if ever) to bear a child, she certainly isn't going to be given much else to be in charge of, either.
The only reason this issue EVER became a hotbed political issue is that the religious fanatics in this country, who have been trying to control the reins of government, picked an issue that was certain to divide people. They took this choice out of the doctor's office and put it in the public eye so that the country could be divided, and in that way 'conquered'. Have to hand it to 'em, some of the campaign tactics, as repugnant as they are, have been pretty slick. Shows they've got some pretty fancy lawyers. The terrorist tactics (threatening, and even sometimes killing) docs who perform TABs; harrassing women entering family-planning clinics; and chasing some family planning clinics out of some towns.
There used to be a clinic a few blocks from my home, and every Friday this looney-tune and his whacked-out buddies would block park a truck with pictures of fetuses on it, and would block an entire sidewalk with their signs, fake babies (dolls), themselves, etc. I guess they think they're scaring people with their pictures & signs, but it only serves to infuriate them. In large part, the attempts to overthrow Roe vs Wade by the religious lunatics of the world is one of the main reasons I stopped voting Republican after Ronald Reagan, and voted Democratic instead.
And then of course there is the issue of our jobs. When that all started going down the toilet (or shall I say - to the Third World) I realized the 'trickle-down effect' I'd been led to believe when I was a Republican in the past was a lie. It doesn't trickle DOWN, the money only gushes UP -- to the ones who already have the most of it.

abort with no questions asked because it is her uterus and no one's business. Yet you wish to take away the rights of people who don't believe in abortion and work in the medical field. No job should require you to do something that you find unethical. If you want to abort your child....fine....that is your decision and one that you will have to answer for and live with. So many people are on here screaming about their rights and how dare their rights be taken away. Forcing someone in the medical field to be involved in something they feel is unethical......isn't that taking away their rights. They have a right to refuse. There are other people in the medical field who would willingly perform an abortion....so why force those who find it unethical? That is just wrong.

Hi American Woman! Come on back here regularly. We have some really good liberal posters now. Yes, Im in CA. The fires are all around me but havent come to the desert yet (where I am). They have been moving towards the ocean instead (opposite direction). With a change of the wind, though, the fires could change direction, then they would come over the Sierra Nevada Mountains to get to the desert. About two years ago a fire came up over the mountains and you could see it from my house and the air was thick with smoke and soot. Was quite scary..but the firefighters were able to get it out. Yup, CA, the land of mudslides, wildfires, earthquakes, torrential rains (when it does rain..smile). So good to hear from ya..Come on back here. The board isnt the same without ya. :o).

I understand these relationships, but I don't think traditional marriage between a man and a woman should cover gays/lesbians. They have civil unions in my state and now they want marriage. Leave the tradition of marriage alone.

If gays and lesbians want to show their commitment, then a civil union is for them. Don't redefine something thousands of years old just because it's "politically correct." Are you saying she is somehow more responsible for her behavior while addicted than you would be or I would be, just because her husband is now running for President? And don't tell me if you had the means at your disposal to avoid jail and you were an addict that you would not use every one of them.
Are you holding her to the same standard you would hold yourself or a member of your family? If it were your mother or sister, and you had the means to help them avoid jail and get off the stuff, would you not do it?
