taxes and make it lucrative to keep businesses here, not obama. How can you believe a man who is a pure politician in the worst sense? He has no record of DOING much of anything and no experience to speak of, but just the talk. He might be good at mobilizing communities, but doesn't stand up and fight for you other than that. He will SAY anything and change his position based on public perceptions. no, i want a man who stands on his principals and stands FOR us, even going against his party and even going against public opinion. A man with guts! A man with principals! You want to save your job, save your country from disaster, vote MCCAIN!!

They can reduce the interest to normal levels...
and wipe out whatever they are in arrears, and readjust payments. There is NO NEED to reduce principal. That is just another gimme. And if they can't make the payments on reduced interest they will lose the house ANYWAY. 'Book of Virtues' Author Says Hypothetical Remark Was Valid

- After pondering on his radio program how aborting every black infant in America would affect crime rates, best-selling author and self-styled Values Czar Bill Bennett is vehemently denying he is a racist and defending his willingness to speak publicly about race and crime.
On the Wednesday edition of his radio show, Bill Bennett's Morning in America, syndicated by Salem Radio Network, a caller raised the theory that Social Security is in danger of becoming insolvent because legalized abortion has reduced the number of tax-paying citizens. Bennett said economic arguments should never be employed in discussions of moral issues.
If it were your sole purpose to reduce crime, Bennett said, You could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down.
That would be an impossible, ridiculous and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down, he added.
Outrage From Democrats
Bennett was secretary of education for President Ronald Reagan and is considered one of the Republican Party's big brains. But this week Democrats and some Republicans seemed to also question if Bennett's mouth is of size as well.
Democrats expressed outrage, ranging from demands for an apology to requests that the Federal Communications Commission suspend Bennett's show.
Republicans, Democrats and all Americans of good will should denounce this statement, should distance themselves from Mr. Bennett, said Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., D-Ill. And the private sector should not support Mr. Bennett's radio show or his comments on the air.
I'm not even going to comment on something that disgusting, said Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt. Really, I'm thinking of my black grandchild and I'm going to hold (off).
'Things That People Are Thinking'
In an interview with ABC News, Bennett said that anyone who knows him knows he isn't racist. He said he was merely extrapolating from the best-selling book Freakonomics, which posits the hypothesis that falling crimes rates are related to increased abortion rates decades ago. It would have worked for, you know, single-parent moms; it would have worked for male babies, black babies, Bennett said. So why immediately bring up race when discussing crime rates? There was a lot of discussion about race and crime in New Orleans, Bennett said. There was discussion – a lot of it wrong – but nevertheless, media jumping on stories about looting and shooting and gangs and roving gangs and so on.
There's no question this is on our minds, Bennett said. What I do on our show is talk about things that people are thinking … we don't hesitate to talk about things that are touchy.
Bennett said, I'm sorry if people are hurt, I really am. But we can't say this is an area of American life (and) public policy that we're not allowed to talk about – race and crime.
Robert George, an African-American, Republican editorial writer for the New York Post, agrees that Bennett's comments were not meant as racist. But he worries they feed into stereotypes of Republicans as insensitive. His overall point about not making broad sociological claims and so forth, that was a legitimate point, George said. But it seems to me someone with Bennett's intelligence … should know better the impact of his words and sort of thinking these things through before he speaks.
The blunt-spoken Bennett has ruffled feathers before, most recently in 2003 for revelations that despite his best-selling books about virtue and values, he is a high-rolling preferred customer at Las Vegas and Atlantic City casinos.
In light of accusations that the Bush administration should have been more sensitive to black victims of Hurricane Katrina, a Republican official told ABC News that Bennett's comments were probably as poorly timed as they were politically incorrect.

Not only will he refuse to get out of Iraq unless there is some sort of clear victory, even if it takes "100 years" or "1000 years" (his words), jokes about how to handle Iran is "Bom, bom, bom, bom, bomb Iran" (to the tune of a Beach Boys song), he also wants to kick Russia out of the G8 and not let China or India in. Way to place nice with the up-and-coming superpowers - I'm sure that will do great things for our country in years to come.
There are certain things I like about him (strict belief in Geneva Convention, willing to work across party lines), but his warmongering side scares the you-know-what out of me.
McCain's age
Whether his military uniform helps his image depends on what kind of world we want to be living in tomorrow, not the one we live in now. A lot of people will be showing up at the polls to say that status quo is not acceptable, especially when it comes to solving problems by waging wars. Concerns over his age, senility and/or Alzheimer’s are legitimate if you do the math. Those possibilities are very real and could just as easily happen early in his term as later. He has shown some early signs like his problems with word retrieval, mispronunciation, confusion, forgetting what he is saying and blank staring spells.
The teleprompter comment is also kind of a cheap shot. Besides that, it is not true, unless you believe everything you hear on Fox or YouTube. He is an excellent orator and delivered very spontaneous and inspiring responses in the town hall meetings during the primaries and in news conferences. YHe is a much better speaker than McCain.

like he hurts. It makes me uncomfortable to watch. Obama has a significantly larger amt of data in his mind (constitutional law professor, etc) to sort through, gather, and assemble before he responds to a question. It is to his favor that he does not immediately yelp out an answer like a trained seal.

Is what worries me so much about this situation. I mean, people die at different ages, it's true, but if McCain were 20 years younger, I don't think I'd be quite as worried. But he's 72, has had skin cancer several times, and I read (haven't verified) that both his father and grandfather died suddenly of heart attacks when they were younger than he is now. Now that might not mean anything. After all, isnt' his mother in her 90s? But it just worries me. It would be different if he wanted Palin to have a cabinet position where she could, I don't know, hone her skills, cut her teeth in Washington, so to speak, but to put her is a position of leading our country if something happens to McCain? It just makes me very nervous.

Following his loss to George W. Bush in the 2000 South Carolina primary, John McCain did something extraordinary: He confessed to lying about how he felt about the Confederate battle flag, which he actually abhorred. "I broke my promise to always tell the truth," McCain said. Now he has broken that promise so completely that the John McCain of old is unrecognizable. He has become the sort of politician he once despised.
The precise moment of McCain's abasement came, would you believe, not at some news conference or on one of the Sunday shows but on "The View," the daytime TV show created by Barbara Walters. Last week, one of the co-hosts, Joy Behar, took McCain to task for some of the ads his campaign has been running. One deliberately mischaracterized what Barack Obama had said about putting lipstick on a pig -- an Americanism that McCain himself has used. The other asserted that Obama supported teaching sex education to kindergarteners.
"We know that those two ads are untrue," Behar said. "They are lies."
Freeze. Close in on McCain. This was the moment. He has largely been avoiding the press. The Straight Talk Express is now just a brand, an ad slogan like "Home Cooking" or "We Will Not Be Undersold." Until then, it was possible for McCain to say that he had not really known about the ads, that the formulation "I approve this message" was just boilerplate. But he didn't.
"Actually, they are not lies," he said.

McCain has turned ugly. His dishonesty would be unacceptable in any politician, but McCain has always set his own bar higher than most. He has contempt for most of his colleagues for that very reason: They lie. He tells the truth. He internalizes the code of the McCains -- his grandfather, his father: both admirals of the shining sea. He serves his country differently, that's all -- but just as honorably. No more, though.
I am one of the journalists accused over the years of being in the tank for McCain. Guilty. Those doing the accusing usually attributed my feelings to McCain being accessible. This is the journalist-as-puppy school of thought: Give us a treat, and we will leap into a politician's lap.
Not so. What impressed me most about McCain was the effect he had on his audiences, particularly young people. When he talked about service to a cause greater than oneself, he struck a chord. He expressed his message in words, but he packaged it in the McCain story -- that man, beaten to a pulp, who chose honor over freedom. This had nothing to do with access. It had to do with integrity.
McCain has soiled all that. His opportunistic and irresponsible choice of Sarah Palin as his political heir -- the person in whose hands he would leave the country -- is a form of personal treason, a betrayal of all he once stood for. Palin, no matter what her other attributes, is shockingly unprepared to become president. McCain knows that. He means to win, which is all right; he means to win at all costs, which is not.
At a forum last week at Columbia University, McCain said, "But right now we have to restore trust and confidence in government." This was always the promise of John McCain, the single best reason to vote for him. America has been cheated on too many times -- the lies of Vietnam and Watergate and Iraq. So many lies. Who believes that in Afghanistan last month, only five civilians were killed by the American military in an airstrike, instead of the approximately 90 claimed by the Afghan government? Not me. I first gave up on the military during Vietnam and then again when it covered up the death of Pat Tillman, the Army Ranger and former NFL player who was killed in 2004 by friendly fire.
McCain was going to fix all that. He was going to look the American people in the eyes and say, not me. I will not lie to you. I am John McCain, son and grandson of admirals. I tell the truth.
But Joy Behar knew better. And so McCain lied about his lying and maybe thinks that if he wins the election, he can -- as he did in South Carolina -- renounce who he was and what he did and resume his old persona. It won't work. Karl Marx got one thing right -- what he said about history repeating itself. Once is tragedy, a second time is farce. John McCain is both.

you believe what Obama said. McCain said he told Obama he was going to suspend his campaign and when Obama spoke just now he stated the same thing, only says "I didn't know he meant it now" or some such. I don't buy that. He just didn't think McCain was serious. Turns out he was.

McCain has supported legislation to give tax breaks to companies that outsource jobs? I'm asking because I don't know. Oh, yes, I read what you quoted from the article. My question is, do you believe EVERYTHING you read? Might be a good idea to apply some common sense. I know a lot of ex-wives who had husbands who kicked them to the curb and not ONE of them would speak in such kind and loving terms about the ex 'who dun 'em wrong." I'm not an ex-wife (widowed) but I can guarantee you that if my husband left me for another woman for ANY reason, he would regret the day he was born. I doubt I'm much different from any other woman.

I felt some respect for McCain when I saw a few minutes ago an elderly woman questioning him about Obama and he said "he is a decent man, a family man." The lady asked about him being a "terrorist" and McCain said, "No, No m'am, he's not." He walked away looking liike an old, defeated man. I even felt some sympathy for him. a bigger better person than most of us would be. I mean really, being in the horrible conditions he was a POW, tortured, starved, etc, he REFUSED to go home when told he could, because military protocol says first-in, first-out and he wouldn't let the fact that his father was an Admiral save him from the pain. How many anybodies would do that??? and knowing that it would be way worse on him for refusing to go as well. Now that is character, grit and integrity all rolled into one. So again, he would use his experience wisely i am very sure, and not with any vendetta.

The man is exhausted. You can hear it in his voice. I think that with everything that is happening in the world he will not have the energy to do what needs to be done right now and follow through with his promises.
I do not buy ANY of the partisan retoric that I hear. I believe NONE of the negative ads, NONE of the smear tactics from either side. I believe both are patriotic Americans and just have a different ideology.
With McCain being old, SP as a VP, and looking like more of the same Bush policies, I think it is time to give someone new a chance. Our government has many checks and balances. There is no reason to fear people. If things don't go to our satisfaction, we can vote him out in four years! You all act like a vote for Obama is a vote for a dictator and that will be the end of us all. Come on! Give the guy a chance. You never know, after eight years, you might not want him to leave!
Vote for McCain if you think that is what is right, but don't fear what will happen when and if Obama is elected, and please realize that this is a political campaign and lies are abound. Do not believe everything you hear that fits your little narrrow niche. Expand your mind and realize what could be.
Lastly, I remember that John F. Kennedy said "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country". I heard him say it. Our country is not our government, our country is our people. I was uplifted by JFK way back then and get the same uplifted feeling now. I am voting for Obama.
I think McCain would have done better...
with a more "middle-of-the-road" pick. McCain himself I think is a pretty standup guy. I don't agree with a lot of decisions he makes, but I really do think he has the country's best interest at heart. The problems he had were 1) he's just not a good speaker. 2) the economy. 3) Bush. 4) Two wars. 5) Sarah Palin. Considering the odds, he really didn't do that bad.

I don't think the pubs paid attention in history class. What they don't realize is that the govt of Iran has been "instilled" for years by someone other than Iranian people. We did it in the 50s, and Britian did it before then. Before these guys (pubs) go any further with their righteous little dance of condemning the Iranian govt, they need to find out if the people of Iran actually want their help (and that would more than likely be a big NO).
As your post demonstrates, this is what Obama didn't want to do....that is, give the Iranian govt any kind of leverage. I guess the party of NO is just going to do anything to go against Obama, regardless of the cost. I just hope they don't blow this as there is a very good chance that the people of Iran (particularly without our help) could get a huge regime change, including the supreme leader, and that is what we really need to happen to be able to talk to them about nukes.
What I think is really amazing is that McCain is actually speaking out about this like he's all upset. Isn't he the one who sang the "bomb, bomb Iran song?" What....all the sudden he's had a change of heart? Unreal.
